Daggerfall's character creation makes all other TES games pale in comparison. The writing had also been steadily getting worse starting with Oblivion. Morrowind was their peak.
Dude, SkyUI is the most downloaded Skyrim mod because it has the Mod Configuration Menu, what you just can't live without if you use the greatest mods out there. Many people prefer the original UI (myself included). So much that there are popular mods that revert the changes made by SkyUI while letting you use the MCM. SkyUI feels terrible with a controller
SkyUi is terrible with a mouse and keyboard as well. Thankfully there is a mod called SkyUI Away that gives you MCM but disables everything else on SkyUI
I prefer a controller as well and I honestly prefer the ui the game has so much because it feels like everything is so much simpler and it’s easier to look through! Especially during crafting items unless you’re naming them custom so you can get through it before the potions wears off. Mod config is goated
oh damn a mod that was made specifically for mouse and keyboard doesn't feel right when using a controller? wow! who would've thought that was possible? this changes everything.
@@crimpycentaur9329 The guy said "SkyUI feels terrible with a controller", even though it was made specifically to give a more convenient UI for people who use mouse and keyboard. Getting it now, the lack of logic there? No? I think it's both you and the OP whose comments make no sense.
If they don't have spellcrafting, guilds as good as Oblivions, and a story closer to the Morrowind era, I probably won't buy it. This all depends on where the game takes place, though. Spellcrafting needs a comeback. Story for guilds need a serious, serious upgrade from Skyrim. Your character needs to matter, maybe not as much as Morrowind, but at least as much as Oblivion, and way, WAY, more than Skyrim's Dragonborn did. I would love to see High Rock, Elsweyr, or maybe even a Daggerfall redo. Classes need to come back, but in a more balanced way.
@@carbonmonoxide5052 I didn't mind Fo4, but 76 was Todd's Hot Garbage on Wheels. I bought the Power Armor Edition. Didn't get anything for my money. Not the helmet, not the game, not anything. Didn't get my money back either.

Fallout 4 was ...... Meh....I did not like 3, but started with 3, and NV.
When I first played Skyrim, I just thought, "What the hell, Oblivion was better." I still think Oblivion did a lot of things better than Skyrim did, but Skyrim is still my most played game of all time simply because of everything you can fix with mods. If I compare only the vanilla games, Oblivion wins hands down for me.
I also miss the character creation. Cant be OP in everything. I may be a Morrowind fanboy, but I loved how certain guild quests would prevent you from completing other guilds due to beef between guilds and deleting other leaders etc. preventing that satisfying 100% completion in one run through. I miss the acrobatics stat 🥺 Also the fantasy feel of stepping into another world that morrowind gave was phenomenal! Oblivion has some fun ecosystems but the buildings didn’t give me that fanciful feeling. But also I understand since it’s pretty much where all of the imperials live.
Totally agree, I really like Skyrim; but Oblivion is just a better experience. I really hope that Elder Scrolls 6 is more Oblivion than Skyrim, but based on Fallout 76 and Starfield, I seriously doubt it.
Thing is about skyrim races the female Bretons and Female imperials both are the same then on oblivon you can tell by their voice actor and their size scale.
The thing that most annoys me about Elder Scrolls is that each successive game does certain things way better than its predecessors and other things way worse. I genuinely can't say whether or not Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim is the best because they're all so very different. They're all great, yet also severely flawed.
@@KindaStupid. And Morrowind is probably older than you are, yet they could still make decent faces. Though, High Elves were ugly. No one was going to believe High Elf Superiority in Morrowind.
Wow, normally I'm cynical about videos with this kind of title but you were DEAD on with this one. Truth is, the TES series has gotten dumbed down EVERY release since Daggerfall. Daggerfall's spell and magic item creation was world class, and the faction system was almost TOO complex, LOL. Factions had enemy any ally factions, and everybody remembered who you had aligned with. But yeah, I can't argue with a single point made in the video.
I severely disagree with the "Oblivion had the better UI" theory. Skyrim works fine for me, and I *hate* the Oblivion UI. Even after ten playthroughs, I have no idea what the separate chapters in the spell book mean, or which spells are where. Only being able to have one quest active in the compass and map also really sucked. Another thing that Oblivion did a lot worse than Skyrim was dungeons, especially the cave type ones. They are were extremely tiny, with barely a foot of room around the character to walk through.. and they all looked and felt the same. The only really nice dungeons were the Ayleid ruins.
The Oblivion Spellbook is devided in the following tabs: All spells you know Spells you cast on a distant targer Spells you cast on something you touch Spells you cast on yourself Spelleffects active on you
I'd disagree on the DLC side of things. Shivering Isles was awsome! No doubt! But the 3 DLC's of skyrim added a lot! Downgard gave us new magic spells, a new weapon type, skill trees for werewolf and vampire as well as some nice locations, enemys, gear and lore. Hearthfire gave us a new housing mecanic. For me at least it was varry rewarding to collect the materials and muild my own home, where I was able to have my own household. It also gave an awsoem foundation for some mods. Last but in no way least Dreagonborn! We got an awsome nostalgic trip to a location we know with awsome Morrowind vibes! We got new spells, starf crafting, new mecanics with black books, Apocrypha as a new deadric plane. Don't get me wrong I love Shivering Isles, Knights of the Nine and many of the smaler DLC's of Oblivion. But the amount of mecanics and Morrowind nostallgia the Skyrim DLC's added as well as the amount of content, I think Skyrim makes the race. But no doubt it is a close call and individual preference might make the difference here.
YES!!!! Thank you! Oblivion has whimsy and doesn't take itself to seriously and has tones of colour and ambition. It's the best game I have ever played! And the quests are so much better!
Technically women are more powerful than men in Skyrim thanks to the buff that increase melee damage against the "opposite sex" by 10% since there are a lot more male enemies than female (just like in real life).
@@miceltusav88in the game there is a perk that you can get that’ll give you a price increase to the opposite sex. After the quest heart of Dibella you gain the Agent of Dibbella. It’s a spell effect that gives a 10% increase in damage towards the opposite sex. Since most of the enemy’s/bosses in the game are men if you play as a woman. So you’ll be a more powerful Dragonborn
It's been years, but if I recall, males in Oblivion had higher str and women were higher in some other stat. Could never get away with that today, even though it's reality. I would love to see an RPG brave enough to make men have higher physical stats, but maybe give women something men can't get, like certain spells, or better interaction with the leaders of society (men) if you choose to make her attractive.
Oblivion was more interesting to adventure in. You never knew what you were going to encounter in its many forts, ruins, caves, and crypts. There was a huge amount of creatures and monsters. Skyrim just felt like Draugers, forlorn, skeletons, Draugers, and more Draugers. And oblivions crypts were much creepier then anywhere in Skrim.
I feel like to reach as many people it just feel like the developers "watered" down player agency. Its rather helpful for them to fill in the blank for some spots for our own character. Almost like using ambiguity as a blanket for the player character's actions.
I agree with many things you say, but not with the terrain comment. It is an unfair comparison. Of course Skyrim is going to have a much more limited terrain type that Cyrodiil. Also the character classes. I did not like the character classes in Oblivion, so I always chose the custom class. Essentially Skyrim just offers you the custom class. The main difference was that you could not name it like in Oblivion.
The one thing I noticed after playing Skyrim without mods, its a pretty shallow game for an rpg. Always felt I was pushed along, its why of all these years of playing. I've only beaten the game a hand full of times. I don't even remember the story that much compared to oblivion which I haven't played in a few years.
This applies to a lot of series. Over time, gameplay, character, story, and unique mechanics have been set aside and compensated for the next gen graphics and controls. It's really frustrating
gotta agree with this so much, I give skyrim huge + for the mods people have made XD and skyblivion has been my most anticipated mod/game for last 10 years. Skyrim only has better graphics and better mods
Morrowind is the first one I played but got bored after a few hours, never picked back up. Didn't play another ES game till a buddy kept bugging me to play Skyrim.
I can't disagree with everything you've said. But at the same time. Saying that oblivion does some things better, it doesn't mean skyrim's are bad. I personally loved the storyline and lore of dawngaurd. (Especially the part with the snow elves). And dragonborn felt like it could of been its own mini separate game. Only thing I thought sucked was the house. I wanted a giant tree mushroom to live in 🤣
@@Digidragon55 Funny thing is, I actually liked the sequel. They improved on so many things the first was just so abysmal there was no coming back lol
Seems to me that all your points go one way: Bethesda cut short Skyrim just for the sake of making its release date a funny 11/11/11 instead of giving more time to the teams to polish the game. And even though I feel bad listening to you carving into my fav game, it's hard not to agree with you... But look, would we have had such wonderful mods since 2011 if it weren't for vanilla being so dull? xD And YES, we can see in your video that you too can't wait for Skyblivion xD You're not the only one =P
I was gonna say like “what tf?” But nawl, the dark brotherhood side quest is low key better, the gladiator side quest, just a better version of the companions, the murder mystery. The only thing I would give Skyrim is the magic centric quest is better, but even that was half baked in retrospect
The two lead writers of morrowind and oblivion left after fallout 3. Thats why the quests since has been going downhill ever since. The writers they have today are so bad they should get fired.
Oblivion guild questlines were much better written but they wouldn't recognize your progress, as at some point the Thieves guild tasks you to rob the Arch-mage which can be you. You go to your room as an Arch-mage and take your own item to complete the quest. Dumbest heist ever
Console gamer here, and I can honestly say that if skyrim had most of these differences that oblivion has I'd probably like it more. I find vanilla skyrim to be how do we say, dry and lacking rich flavor
I used guns in my game after finding out it now lore friendly. I kind of feel like I’m a bad person for when I use it. But at the same time I’m a wanted criminal for murder in Windhelm because I thought the guard was a soldier lol.
I really hope ES6 has the factions of Oblivion so we can actually be able to climb the ladder and be a part of the guild rather than join, walk around for 2 minutes, fetch an enchanted rubber duck, and then become leader.
starfield has me VERY concerned. it's like bethesda didn't even realize why their shallow games worked.
I hope it takes examples from both games and makes it the best thing ever.
If Starfield did anything right about factions is that you don’t become any of their leaders at any point.
My custom class was named "Badass". It always felt awesome when the game would then ask me "Do you want to be a Badass?"
In Morrowind and Oblivion, I always made a custom class. And always called it Big Pimpin!
What I miss from Oblivion is the storage system. Drop your loot into a chest and it gets sorted into the various categories in the chest. You don't have to scroll through the whole chest to find that one thing.
Every play through of Skyrim gets the ui mod for me, default ui looks and feels very strange
Most of it's alphabetized, isn't it? I mean, categories would be better, but it's not hard to find what you need.
My big problem with Skyrim is definatley the creativity in the quests, almost all of them are fetch quests, even ones like the dark brotherhood questline has the same framework.
I couldnt agree more, skyrim really is fetch quest packed to the hilt
had just started oblivion few days ago, did 1 side quest it was more interesting than the entire companions quest line lol

@@anon1963lol bro what was the purpose of your comment, I’m genuinely curious on what you hoped would happen by saying this.
@@crimpycentaur9329 The guy said "SkyUI feels terrible with a controller", even though it was made specifically to give a more convenient UI for people who use mouse and keyboard. Getting it now, the lack of logic there? No? I think it's both you and the OP whose comments make no sense.
In ESO they brought back spell crafting through scribing. I bet they'll have it in ES6.
@@UndeadGrymlook at Fallout 4 and Starfield. TES VI is doomed.
@@carbonmonoxide5052 I didn't mind Fo4, but 76 was Todd's Hot Garbage on Wheels. I bought the Power Armor Edition. Didn't get anything for my money. Not the helmet, not the game, not anything. Didn't get my money back either.
@@UndeadGrym I enjoyed 4 as well, but only because I modded the hell out of it. I’m not going to get Starfield until it gets modded properly (if that ever happens…), likewise for TES 6.
@@carbonmonoxide5052 I've resolved not to play Beth products that come after Fo4 at all, the only exception being TES if it's what I want, well reviewed, and I do a bit of research, because I hate Skyrim, and I do mean Hate. Biggest reason is the world feels like nobody cares the Dragonborn exists, and the guilds are shit, like DB was better in Oblivion, as was TG, and yeah Companions is about on par with FG, maybe, but id have to give that more thought.
I miss the acrobatics stat 🥺
Also the fantasy feel of stepping into another world that morrowind gave was phenomenal!
**Looks at both games** ...I like dragons.
Thing is about skyrim races the female Bretons and Female imperials both are the same then on oblivon you can tell by their voice actor and their size scale.
What happened to the thieves guild video??
The thing that most annoys me about Elder Scrolls is that each successive game does certain things way better than its predecessors and other things way worse. I genuinely can't say whether or not Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim is the best because they're all so very different. They're all great, yet also severely flawed.
I miss bouncing and doing sweet flips with the Acrobatics skill
I really enjoyed the way potion making and spell making was done in Oblivion, I hope they bring that back
I'm all about this "shitting on Skyrim's shortcomings" trend!
Me too. Fuck Skyrim
One day can you make a list of your environment mods for skyrim 🙃
It is possible create Tien Shinhan?
I wonder what other similar new game you suggest to play
I wish being a werewolf was possible in Oblivion. I love it in Skyrim!
The melee combat was so much fun in Oblivion. The NPC would run away in fear if you hit them fast enough
The NPC faces in Oblivion are worse than Morrowind.
Love the werewolves.
I have no idea how they screwed that up so bad
Skyrim is 12 years old and Oblivion is a little older then skyrim 🗿
Cap
The Oblivion Spellbook is devided in the following tabs:
All spells you know
Spells you cast on a distant targer
Spells you cast on something you touch
Spells you cast on yourself
Spelleffects active on you
The UI was obviously created for consoles. Absolute garbage
"Mmafter all."
"Mmand sure..."
Dude you're killing me.
The one only faction that seems super good done in skyrim is the thief guild. I feel that it the one with more interesting quests
Technically women are more powerful than men in Skyrim thanks to the buff that increase melee damage against the "opposite sex" by 10% since there are a lot more male enemies than female (just like in real life).
What?
But Oblivion doesn’t have Partysnacks (a.k.a. Partheurnaux)
What's up with the huge X at 6:22
Two Worlds mentioned 🙌🙌
I feel like to reach as many people it just feel like the developers "watered" down player agency. Its rather helpful for them to fill in the blank for some spots for our own character. Almost like using ambiguity as a blanket for the player character's actions.
Skyrim isn’t a real RPG. Always preferred Oblivion.
Oblivion isn't exactly a real RPG either
Hopefully the Elder Scrolls VI has even more content than Oblivion while still playing somewhat similar to Skyrim.
I wish you were intelligent
I tried going back to Oblivion and I just couldn't get past how outdated it feels and plays. Skyrim to me is still the goat.
Elder Scrolls VI:
Bethesda ports The Elder Scrolls Online to singleplayer, offline mode, just for the mods.
Eel Spaghetti, Todd's personal Farm Tool, couldn't write his way out of a sack.
Number 10 - the leveling system
Oh, wait...
I wanted a giant tree mushroom to live in 🤣
Oblivion's interface is the worst I have ever played in any game, period
Speaking of Two World, can you do a video on that game please?
Two Worlds is an overall bad game I heard! Somehow it got a sequel though. . .
@@Digidragon55 It's have one attack animation.
@@Digidragon55 Funny thing is, I actually liked the sequel. They improved on so many things the first was just so abysmal there was no coming back lol
best skyrim youtuber ! keep at it!
One topic that is enough: Custom Magic Spells.
Oblivion is so impressive to me. They actually "ended" the player character's story.
For me the two most drastic changes with Skyrim is the Magic Creation and Enchanting .
The intro. 😁
Great vid mate
he literally just posted it ..
Existing. Oblivion exists better than skyrim ever will
We also can't join the Thalmor over the Blades.
Seems to me that all your points go one way: Bethesda cut short Skyrim just for the sake of making its release date a funny 11/11/11 instead of giving more time to the teams to polish the game. And even though I feel bad listening to you carving into my fav game, it's hard not to agree with you... But look, would we have had such wonderful mods since 2011 if it weren't for vanilla being so dull? xD
And YES, we can see in your video that you too can't wait for Skyblivion xD You're not the only one =P
Morrowind was my first Elder Scrolls so I'm old :)
I was gonna say like “what tf?” But nawl, the dark brotherhood side quest is low key better, the gladiator side quest, just a better version of the companions, the murder mystery. The only thing I would give Skyrim is the magic centric quest is better, but even that was half baked in retrospect
Maturing is realizing I had more fun in oblivion
It's sad he doesn't get that much subs
He seems to be the fastest growing skyrim youtuber rn. lmao
bro. life is more than just views and subs. stay in school, kid.
The two lead writers of morrowind and oblivion left after fallout 3. Thats why the quests since has been going downhill ever since. The writers they have today are so bad they should get fired.
Best things about Oblivion is every NPCS in Oblivion never fail to make me laugh also I like the city in the Oblivion
Oblivion guild questlines were much better written but they wouldn't recognize your progress, as at some point the Thieves guild tasks you to rob the Arch-mage which can be you. You go to your room as an Arch-mage and take your own item to complete the quest. Dumbest heist ever
The followers in Skyrim are better but I like how you can have a big group of followers in oblivion
I feel bad with khajiit on oblivion 😂😂
Console gamer here, and I can honestly say that if skyrim had most of these differences that oblivion has I'd probably like it more. I find vanilla skyrim to be how do we say, dry and lacking rich flavor
Before this video, Oblivion > Skyrim by a nose for me. This video confirms that.
Tbh i feel like oblivion aged better than skyrim. But thats probably just me really liking medieval stuff
Patrick Stewart and Sean Bean.
Does Oblivion support VR yet? Skyrim VR is arguably the most immersive VR game ever released.
really thought you were going to say dawnguard made an entire generation. . . simp for Serana!
At least we have Skyblivion and a Oblivion remaster coming
coming in 203X lmao
Love the content fall damage!
Most of the points made in the video are even more apparent in Morrowind. Should have been comparing that one to skyrim.
Tell me how you really feel lol.
I disagree about the classes. I like not being forced to choose them in advance. Allows me to go back to stealth archer anytime I like. 😂
I used guns in my game after finding out it now lore friendly. I kind of feel like I’m a bad person for when I use it. But at the same time I’m a wanted criminal for murder in Windhelm because I thought the guard was a soldier lol.
Magic in Skyrim is a joke. Oblivion was streets ahead.
Outside of Dual spell casting and muh grafics, what did skyrim really improve on?, you're comparing an RPG with an open world action exploration game
