Also have had the bodies rebuilt 3 times on my 84 & once in my 89. $$ well spent as both trucks are easier , cheaper to repair & maintain than anything after the 2,000`s. The 84 looks & drives like new & fits my 4`10" height perfectly while these newer huge trucks do not. Its cheaper to maintain & rebuild a truck that`s manufactured of earlier years than those of today.

But these idiots build and rebuild and try this then try that and all the while the ship continues to sink! They have no clue what the 'average' consumer is. If I were the head of one of these moronic manufacturers, we'd be going 'old school.' Keep the necessities, ABS, Catalytic, emissions, seat belts, etc. Put a good engine in it, timing chain, no turbo, offer it in a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder ICE. No frills, no maze of worthless tech, just a dependable vehicle (car or truck) that many people could afford. Am I way out there in left field for thinking this way?

Kind of sad re: Ram. Meaning for 5 yrs (from 2019) the stinking stability control HASN'T worked? How could they NOT know ? That's supposed to be corner stone for protecting the driver in adverse conditions - that's a MAJOR issue. Had a 2013 Ram Hemi, not an issue (yes one or two minor recalls - minor), but was the best pickup in my 6 plus decades on the planet. Noted the 2024 models (at test drive) had an almost uneven "sway" about it. Checked the tailgate - light as a feather, and then the lightbulb went on, they (Ram) had put so much aluminum into the body of the 2024 that it completely threw the ride off (sway). There were several other issues (i.e. e Torque engine, and breaking) Bought a Toyota 4Runner - very happy.

The thing I found about RAMs most of their issues are minor like replacing the lifters over 100k. Toyota is recalling a bunch of their engines due to possible metal shavings inside. Don’t know that either. I see a lot of newer looking Rams with lots of rust. Our 2020 Ford Escape has had 4 or 5 recalls. Now the Engine light stays on and has a problem starting after fueling. Made an appointment with the dealer to check it out and get it fixed. Took it in and was told that even though it was probably something relatively simple to fix, they would be able to LOOK at it for 3 or 4 days, even though we had an appointment. They also said that they didn’t have a loaner at the time. So, we would have to rent a car so my wife could get to work. Their Ford play system or whatever they call it has connectivity issues. It’s garbage. Unacceptable. We drove the car home. F the dealers and the lousy Ford quality.

Battery cars, and many hybrids do ride rough, but I don't attribute that to battery weight, rather to using low-profile tires with higher pressure to stretch the mileage spec, since that is the most critical metric for them. Stellantis cars vary widely in CR ratings. One year, I recall RAM was at the top in "initial quality", but what matters to most is how it is after 15 years. Running an older fleet here in Maine -- 2008 Toyota Matrix with about 240,000 miles. 2009 Ram 2500 5.7 gas with 171,000 miles and a 2009 Hyundai Accent with 160,000 miles. Older cars that have survived the salty winters fairly well so far with fluid film and the normal run of the mill repairs that you run up against but nothing exotic or unfix-able for some great sum of money. Have a local mechanic that works on them when needed on nights and weekends after he gets home from his dealership employment (quite knowledgeable and builds race cars on the side so pretty adept at most stuff)... dreading having to upgrade some day but will be cautious with what to purchase and probably will have a lesser number of vehicles as we're in our 70's now.

My favorite is a Hybrid S Toyota Corolla. No belts to wear out. Engine replaces energy to the Battery that runs one or both electric motors. Very comfortable seats for long commutes. I baby mine by limiting use of the interior fan and disabling other accessories i think might drain the battery.
I played with acceleration to see how long I could travel on the batery without selecting this mode. Saved a fortune on fuel but the tank is roughly 10 &1/2 gallons and means more trips to top off. Spend $20.00 less than I did with my Hyundai Elantra ‘06 with a 14 Gallon or so fuel tank. On long trips consisting of 400 miles, I stop every 30 miles to help the battery cool down which inproves milage. And having my tires checked before planning a long trip. Plus I allow it to cool down for an hour and do some stop and go drives throughout the trip. Seems road construction on interstates helps regenerative braking.

well just so you know, You have two newer Dodges. A 2018 ram 1500 and a 2017 journey. The journey is one of the biggest piles they make, it's a tin can. The ram 1500, isn't much different than what he's talking about. Daimler/Chrysler is absolutely terrible. The vehicles you have, are almost guaranteed to need a tipm before you sell them, and it's going to cost you thousands of dollars to get that fixed because it's going to take a month for the mechanic to figure that out. I literally have extra fuse boxes on the shelf for when Chrysler's come in so I don't have to diagnose them. I just put a new fuse box in it, see that it's fixed, and tell them what they need.
The engineers at Chrysler are terrible, almost worse than their mechanics. after dealing with the engineers for over a year on a couple pacificas, I ended up fixing them myself because they could not figure out what was wrong, even after I told them what was wrong the first time they laid eyes on the vehicle. after telling me for over a year that there was nothing wrong with the BCM, I went ahead and convinced my company to spend a few thousand dollars on some BCMs for these pacificas. what do you know? I was right. and all it took was an oscilloscope and an hour of my time to figure out what they couldn't figure out in over a year.
I'm a master tech, I've worked on all kinds of different cars, I am formally trained on BMW, and now work at a handicap dealership. about 95% of our vehicles are Chrysler. not many people know what they're talking about when it comes to Chrysler better than I do.

Toyota now is officially recognizing the issue and doing something about it, sort of. Toyota now has a service bulletin on the truck. It is not a safety issue, so they won't replace it unless it breaks. In addition, the Toyota has to qualify for the free replacement. The Tacoma has to meet and display one of six specific fault codes at the dealership to get the free replacement. If it is a different fault code beside those six on the transmission, you have to pay for it. Fault codes that qualify: P07407F, P079571, P08BA71, P271371, P280771, P281671. Good luck.

I got an appointment for my Ram 1500 work truck in the morning. Gives a traction control light, then display says "auto park disabled" then "electronic brake system needs servicing". And the cruise control is disabled...

Auto park? Kids these days have it easy. (Not calling you a kid, I'm just saying). When I took my test, we dreaded parallel parking because it was the hardest. Now they park themselves. What's next? Flying Deloreans?

Scotty, you are aware that Ram pickup trucks are #2 behind only Ford pickups, right? I would not trade my 2017 Ram 1500 with 58,000 miles on it for a brand new Ford pickup. My Ram is the best truck I've ever owned, and I always owned Ford pickups before!

My 2012 has 85 thousand on it and now only sees about a thousand a year on it . The best vehicle I've owned. I was always a Ford truck owner but always had automatic transmission problems except for an old 70 that had a standard in it. And the Ford F-150s became ugly around 97 when they completely changed the looks of them.

Neither my 21 5500 Cummins or 22 3500 Cummins have any issues at all. My 22 has about 30k on it my 21 has about 130k and 6000 hours on it.

They won't stop assembly eventhough they've identified the problem. They knew all along. Produce them, sell them, then worry about it later. Get the money first. Not everyone will return to the dealer anyway whether they know or not. For them its a savings (profit) on each vehicle not returned.

The solar panels over the highways is super dumb.
It's more dangerous and more expensive.
Let private individuals put them over parking lots, etc.
My perfect vehicle would be a 3/4 ton diesel v8 truck with a plug in hybrid where I could run the battery only for 30-50 mile range.
I could drive super cheap on electric in town without using diesel.
I could still tow and take long trips using the diesel motor.
