This year Lenovo and Asus dominated.
I noticed a shift in the kind of youtube tech-sphere, where a few years ago reviewers focused on/ covered more business oriented devices, like Thinkpad, Elitebook, etc. where in particular this year it was for the most part Multimedia/gaming Laptops.
I'm wondering if this is, that creators realized the youtube audience is more interested in these type of devices, or changed the interests towards these devices?
Or is it, that business features like vPro, smartcard, etc. are becoming less relevant in the business sphere?
Certainly gaming laptops don't look as "gamery" anymore and you nowadays probably wouldn't ridicule yourself bringing say a Lenovo Legion laptop into a meeting, compared to some chunky jet-engine fan RGB-fest monstrosity from the past.
Seems like current Laptops more than ever are fit for all use-cases. These days you can have a good Laptop with decent portability, battery-life and (gaming-) performance all in the same device.

And it changes so fast too. I remember in 2016 acer have to released a 8.5 kg, 6.8 cm thick laptop with SLI and subwoofers just to get on par with high end pc at that time.
Now we can have almost the same power of a high end pc specs on a laptop that's barely 2 cm thick and weigh less than 2 kg

The problem with these dedicated business grade laptops is that they are so overpriced and just lack in terms of features in general. Most of lenovo's business grade laptops are limited to plastic builds, dim , low colour accuracy displays and laughable battery capacity and averagish battery backup. The designs are also very outdated, the trackpad and thick bezels especially. These all are individually not that important but when u pay 1000 usd + u expect these and the one with these seems like a better deal. Unless ofc ur organisation requires u to have a smartcard reader or vpro system etc

    • @Qimchiy

That's because Lenovo and Asus has a great balance of everything. Software, hardware, design, performance and price.
Lenovo also has a bunch of discounts and offers. I personally got my Legion 5 Pro with a monitor, mouse, headset and backpack for $1 each. That's an entire setup with my laptop for $4 and it's not in USD, so a little less than US$1.
Meanwhile MSI has some build quality issues thought can be found at affordable prices and Acer still has the bulky gamer design unless it's their Triton laptops which not alot of reviewers talk about, possibly because other options are better.

For anyone looking to buy a macbook. If you are a student in engineering, avoid macbooks, it’s good enough for programming and webdev but not as good for simulation and circuit design. Especially since it doesn’t support most major softwares. Even if it supports any, it’s difficult to find pirated versions when necessary.

    • @IO-_-Ol
      @IO-_-Ol หลายเดือนก่อน

@@elysiaaaan0303 get anything your budget gets you honestly. If you are studying engineering, definitely opt for gaming laptops though.
Make sure your RAM >= 16GB, SSD >= 512 and also make sure your processor is higher than 12th gen. If you get anything lower than those then trust me, you will try to upgrade very soon. You can get lower RAM and SSD but make sure that they are upgradable. Just get an overall reliable laptop. In midrange, most stuff you find will have issues though.
I recommend you go for second hand laptops or laptops from older generation. Don’t go lower than 12th gen processors for intel or 5000 processors for AMD. Even better to get 13th intel or >5000 amd too.
I can’t give you specific models since I haven’t looked at new options but if you do go to look at laptops, consider those specs.

A lot of these videos sing the praises of the Slim Pro 9i, but the 16" version has some serious issues that are often glossed over: bad ports (no HDMI 2.1) and very bad battery life.
If not for those missteps it would be almost perfect. The 14.5" version is better, but, unfortunately, it's hard to use a screen that size for a primary work/productivity machine.

are those Asus Zenbook 14x OLED laptops available in Europe? While they do look very interesting, if I can find them they are very expensive (around 2500USD with dedicated graphics) and not even with the right kind of keyboard (only German, not Swiss). I went with a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 with an AMD 7845S, 3k 90Hz OLED Screen, 32GB RAM and a very fast 1TB SSD for about 1100CHF (around 1300 USD). I couldn't find anything close to that in value in a thin an light. A MB Air 15" with 24GB and 1TB is almost twice as expensive and I'm stuck with 1TB forever... Maybe this perspective helps some international viewers, I feel this video sadly doesn't apply internationally.
