      That's why I don't go into any of these shows/movies expecting anything; if I'm not gonna like it, I'd rather not like it because of what it is rather than what it isn't. I've seen FAR too many fandoms turn on a franchise simply because they wanted things to go one way and the franchise went another; the way the franchise went isn't bad, but the fandom got themselves so hyped for something else that now they automatically hate what was done.

      Why are you expecting something to begin with? This hype culture is a ride or die trend. Either the project skyrockets or it bombs completely. There's no more "medium" and fans don't use their brains most of the time. Not everything has to be super, not everything has to be what we expect. And that's okay. We don't enjoy TV or cinema anymore
      It's all just empty hype. Most of the people complaining are not even fans, ..they are just riding a wave of popular opinions.

      Yes, that is why I think science-fiction like Perry Rhodan is far better than Star Wars... To me it seems Star Wars just doesn't have much to tell. Good vs evil can only entertain for so long.

      Trailers are sho meaningless to the final product because they rarely are set up to show things in sequence or in some cases, they show things that aren’t even in the show, it’s an introduction, not the full story or film. It’s meant to garner interest, anyone who gets upset by a trailer just strikes me as jumping the gun before it’s even loaded.

      I get what you're saying. It sucks to see the Jedi lose and lose and lose. Even when they win, it seems like they had to lose everything in order to win. I don't know what all is happening in this story, but my guess is that, by the end, the Jedi will win, but it will come at a huge price that will foreshadow their eventual fall, and frankly, that story seems to be all they ever tell us of the Jedi. I mean, it might surprise me, but I doubt it. So Adam, I'm right there with you.

    To be fair, it is the first live action project in the High Republic era so one thing that’s nice is literally anything can happen. We aren’t reliant finally on characters that have to have certain arcs. Of course Yoda was around during this time but it’s not like he’s a focal point, so it’s nice to have some disconnect and we will see the Jedi at not only their prime but also during the time they were most cocky. This could make for some really good storytelling especially depending on our main character’s perspective

    As a fan of THR books and comics, it's exciting to see this era in live action. It's definitely an era where they're "the good guys," but there are always threats to that, in some way or another. That's what Jedi do, they keep fighting even IF they're losing. Although, I agree that the grimdark trend is a lot and SW doesn't always need to try to please the people who want things to be more ambigious.
    On another note, there is a really excellent issue of Star Wars 2020 (#20) where Luke speaks to a High Republic Jedi about what it means to be a Jedi when it looks/feels so dim and hopeless. It's really lovely, and I think Adam would enjoy it.

It's a time of peace and the Jedi are doing their thing, holding the power and deciding who is righteous enough to use it. Along comes someone who is like "no, share the Force please" and I expect the Jedi to do what they always do...say no and judge everyone who slightly disagrees with them way to harshly. That's my read on it too. I think that it's not going to be a BAD bad guy fighting GOOD good guys (though if I had to bet, I'd guess that our boots on the ground Jedi leads will be honestly good people) but a story of grey and nuance and someone on the margins fighting against a monolithic and inflexible power structure that is, if not corrupt, ineffective in serving an entire galaxy. That's obviously a much harder thing to pull off, and my optimism is heavily shrouded in caution, but that's the bellwether I see in this trailer, and what gives me hope this will be good.

    Okay, I’m confused. In The Phantom Menace, it was said that Sith have been extinct for a millennia, or a thousand years. So, how come they’re showing up here, only a hundred years before The Phantom Menace? Someone clearly didn’t do their homework. Again!

      @rogersjgregory 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      dark side = Sith. Red light saber = Sith. Someone going around killing Jedi = Sith. A Jedi wouldn't be going around killing Jedi, because if they did, then you can't really call them a Jedi anymore. Jedi and Sith are all about the philosophy, the beliefs, what motivates them and what they stand for. Sith are all about power, and that is what that woman says in the trailer, "This isn't about good or bad. This is about power.....and who is allowed to use it." That's about as Sith-y as you can get.@@Ryan-gz8rs

    The good news is that this takes place 100 years after most of the HR material so if you don’t read those you shouldn’t be lost. The only familiar face is the Mirialin Jedi you see in the trailer (Green skin and a bald head with diamond markings) is a fairly prominent character there but whereas there she’s a teenager she’s significantly older here. Aside from that any familiar faces will likely be those from the prequels (Yoda, Yaddle, Oppo Rancisis, Yarael Poof), although there may be more later.
    That being said, you should definitely read the books

    Let's be honest, "first trailers" for Star Wars properties rarely give us much beyond cool imagery. I fell out of love with Star Wars some time ago, but I admit this does look intriguing. The fact that we're getting a live-action show set well outside the Episode 1-9 timespan is refreshing. And Carrie-Anne Moss is showing she's still a badass :)

    @tmatthewnielsen 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

    I think i get what you're saying. It feels like, at least at this point in the advertising, there's no "hook" to get us interested in the story. It's "There's jedi in the High Republic who are fighting evil..." which is a fine beginning of a sentence, but it needs a "...but (*unique complication here*)" to finish the summary. What is it that will set this apart? It can't *just* be the setting. It needs a "but our hero was framed," "but our hero is hiding the fact he is secretly cursed," or (the current Star Wars favorite) "but our hero must protect a young child along the way" or something.
    Right now, it's just "the dark side is here."

    But I GREATLY appreciate that your critiques or issues are presented as your personal views, and are about the actual content not just whinging about diversity. I respect and appreciate that.
    I think this is definitely gonna get into the philosophy of the Jedi, the politics of the Jedi, and while we do get into that in the prequels I think a series offers a much deeper kind of analysis.
    Plus I think we're gonna get some more mystery and maybe wven noir vibes, Jedi murder mystery anyone? Thats the best stuff in Ep2, bring it on.

    The Acolyte centers around two sisters, one has a special power, the other doesn’t, both are gay. They end up separated, the one without special powers goes on a revenge killing spree due to the Jedi not protecting her village from bandits as they had promised, while searching for her sister (predicting she’s training under Darth Plagues’s master, also the one wielding the red saber). Given the timeline all of the Jedi must die, predicting that she alone is responsible for the Jedi that get taken out (somehow holding insane amount of force ability), and the narrative will be that the Jedi are the true villains within the story. The end. 🤦🏼‍♂️🤣

  • @RadioactiveLobster

    I love ya guys but some times I genuinely wonder how a channel basically dedicated to reacting to trailers continues to not understand the concept of how trailers are released.
    First you get a teaser trailer. You get little hints, some windows into the world. The most basic premise and possible story bits but nothing of actual substance. To make you ask questions. It's not there to give you information, it's there to tease you.
    Then you will get a full trailer. You will see more of the world, more of the characters, a bit more of the story or the action. It's there to give you a bit more of an overview of the world and the characters in it and what might be going on.
    Then you get a story focused trailer. Doesn't give things away (or if it does, does so in a manner that you won't understand what it's giving away until you see it in context). This is where some questions might start to get answered or hinted at the direction it is going.
    Do all projects follow this structure? No, of course not. But expecting story details in a teaser trailer just isn't how it works from my experience so don't fault the teaser trailer for not telling you the story.
    That's just my 2 cents anyways, for what it's worth (which isn't much, probably not even 2 cents).

      @@hargibson18 it’s not that we don’t know too much. It’s that we know legitimately nothing. They could not have been more vague or bland in the dialogue included, and given the fact that this is like 97% of peoples first dive into the High Republic, giving just the smallest amount of detail matters. considering it’s less than 3 months to release and they haven’t really even talked about the project before, they had to give something, and they didn’t. The show interests and excites me, bc I know what it is. The trailer was not good, because it did not convey what it is to other people at all. Just like the Ashoka trailer. People who had never watched rebels genuinely didn’t give a fuck. 2/3 of the dialogue in this trailer is legit just recycled script between Luke and Rey in the last Jedi. It is not hard to generate intrigue amongst both new and returning fans without giving the story away. If you can’t see that then that’s a you problem.

Even with the mando era we know they are not around for the sequels. With this, if you haven't read the books or comics, your going in blind and it can be frustrating not knowing. I felt the same way as Adam does when i first saw it. Being very unsure of the tone or story. Star Wars needs expand beyond the skywalker eras and find a new footing. Star Wars is all about the light, dark, and finding the balance between. During the High Republic the Jedi were everywhere and they were at their strongest. It makes sense that the story would be about a darkness rising. Finding that balance.

This trailer seems to lean into the Palpatine origin story theory of mine, and I'm curious based on the potential of that, or what is the story if it's not that. Plus, its just great to see something Star Wars that isn't part of the Skywalker saga.
