- Today I can present to you the full DRIVE & SOUND with the recently facelifted 2016 / 2017 FIAT 500S TwinAir Turbo powered by a 0.9 liter 2-cylinder petrol engine delivering 105 hp and 145 Nm of torque (1.015kg). It is clearly astonishing that such a small engine can deliver great power for a car. First thing you realize once you jump in is the sporty engine sound and the great pull-through from the mid-rpms. Many other people on the road were not expecting this little "matte-green" 500 to be that fast, speeds up to 200 km/h take long, but are possible:) If you LIKE watching clips like this please don't hesitate to COMMENT / SUBSCRIBE!

Historically we Italians are very attached to the twin-cylinder; it is the engine that in the post-war period allowed us with cars like 500 and "bianchina" to have economically sustainable mobility and consequently to get out of the poverty in which we had sunk. In the following years it became the engine of the first panda, the second all-rounder car for the family. In a way fiat wanted to pay a modern tribute to a piece of life of all Italians.

You're ALL wrong! It fires both cylinders at the same time and is balanced by a secondary balance shaft to reduce engine vibration! 😎⚠️
I drive a Fiat Panda 4x4 Twin air 0.9 turbo, basically the same engine as this but mine is 85bhp, a little more power than the 4 cylinder 1.2 version and developes more torque as well. Not bad performance from a twin cylinder engine, the main advantages are lighter engine and less moving parts which reduces friction. 😎👍😁

Just bought one for my wife it has red sport seats, and she loves it great car.
Five years of twin air ownership and cannot recommend the 850cc twin air enough. Running costs are minimal . Prior to this car I had a succession of Jeeps and finally a Discovery.

I have twin air 2014 and a sport model and it goes like a rocket and no tax and cheap to insure and 60 mpg easy. And it does 0_60 in under 8 seconds. And very stylish inside and out

Great! We have just bought a 2016 500 Twin Air 105 (in Bossa Nova white, looks great) and I'm amazed! OK, it's a bit noisy and 'vibratey' on pullaway, but once you get it in the power band (around 3500 rpm to 5000 rpm, it suddenly shoots forward and always makes me chuckle! Great throaty sound too. I swear that (within its rather narrow power band) it is quicker than our previous car, a Suzuki Swift Sport (1.6l 136 HP).

I can only hope that the twinair will become an option at some point in the U.S. we have the 1.4l 101hp 4 cylinder as the standard engine. Europe always gets the forbidden fruit! love my 500 great little car.

"Forbidden fruit" my ass, be happy that you can get the 1.4l version and not spend half your paycheck on petrol and insurance. @@mcspooney It does actually have a cam, a single overhead cam, with 8 valves as well. Revs freely to 6.5k rpm. The twinair unit operates the intake valves electronically using hydraulic oil pressure and can vary the intake timing and duration, to maximise power and fuel efficiency, based on a host of factors such as throttle position, temp etc etc
On a long run with a mixture of road types, I'm getting well over +50mpg! That's without trying to drive lean, without using eco mode, with start stop or without aircon on etc.......Very economical to own and drive!
You can't compare to a crappy motorbike though! The 85bhp it produces is actually more than the 4 cylinder 1.2 and it developes more torque. It works out at 97 bhp/lt and a power to weight ratio better than a Land Rover Discovery, which makes for a very nimble and very capable car, lots of fun to drive!
Remember it's just a city car with a rugged capability and able to tackle the rough stuff with ease! 👍😎

Das wird wohl noch ein bisschen dauern....Auto wurde ja gerade erst Online vorgestellt, bis Pressewagen kommen bzw. die Händler welche haben wird es wohl 2017 sein :( Wir bleiben auf jeden Fall dran, gerade mit M-Paket sieht der neue richtig stimmig aus...mir hatte schon der 7er mit M-Paket so gut gefallen.

Hat man in scharfen Kurven das Gefühl das man aus der Kurve fliegt? Oder wie verhält sich der kleine flitzer? xD
Natürlich sind die Kurvengeschwindigkeiten auf Grund der recht schmalen Spur physikalisch begrenzt und das Fahrwerk ist eher auf Komfort eingestellt (POSITIV). Jedoch kann man schon Spaß haben und zügig durch die Kurven fahren, insbesondere schnelles Abbiegen in der Stadt ist genial ;)
Also ich fahre den schwächsten der 500er mit dem 1.2 Motor und knapp 70 ps. Der kleine "Flitzer" (

Water cooled as already mentioned. The 'Twin Air' refers to the multi air inlet cam mechanism that features on this engine to give the ECU electronic control of the inlet valves for better performance.

If this car weighed 500kg, it would have to be made from aluminium and carbon fibre, there'd be no soundproofing, no Aircon, no stereo, no airbags and be fitted with only 2 (racing) seats. Even then, 500kg is a hard target and it would cost 5 times as much. Even my Caterham 7 weighed 540kg.

Depends on the steering wheel, temperature and humidity. Besides, soft, thin leather feels much better on the skin than many steering wheel materials. 😉
@@BrateTebra123 The Abarth needs more than driving gloves to make it feel good. New suspension, steering and gear linkages for a start. Looks and sounds ok, but drives like a plank of wood with pram wheels, steered with bungee cords.

sogar mehr;) Fährt sich sehr gut, alles passt wunderbar zusammen, Sitze sind sehr gut, Fahrwerk komfortabel für längere Strecken, Motor schnell genug für dauerhaft 160 auf der Autobahn...für den Preis sehr anständig.

Gloves are used for practical reason, not because he wants to resemble a '60s racing driver. These test cars are used by dozens of people and you may not want to touch the same steering wheel that their hand touched - if you know what I mean.
He is a very special type of specialist!
Turbo läuft, Turbo säuft. Also diese Fahrweise ist komplett übertrieben. Wenn der immer so fährt,dann wird der Tankwart in kürzester Zeit sein bester Freund. Seit 2014 fahre ich den Punto Twinair mit 85 PS. Den Turbo setze ich zum Beispiel ein,wenn ich auf die Autobahn fahre. Dann aber mit viel Gefühl. Übrigens, der Schulterblick im Video war für die Tonne. Wenn da einer im toten Winkel angekachelt kommt, dann krachts im Karton. Die 145 Nm Drehmoment haben alle Twinair Modelle, egal ob 85 oder 105 PS. Aber diese kleine Knutschkugel würde ich nicht so rasant fahren. Unter 1000 kg zulässiges Gesamtgewicht und der geht dir in den Kurven irgend wann einmal stiften. Noch zu erwähnen wäre das richtige Motoroil. Fiat gibt für den Grossteil der Twinair Modelle nur das popelige 5W40 frei. In diesen Hochleistungsmotor gehört entweder das 5W30oder 0W30er Öl eingefüllt. Mit dem 5W40er Öl fängt jeder Twinair an zu saufen. Der Twinair hat natürlich auch eine sparsame Seite. Der geübte Twinair Fahrer erreicht im ECO-MODUS sogar 3,4 Liter Super, natürlich nur wenn er will. In meiner 5 jährigen Testfahrt habe ich auch, bei verschiedenen Gelegenheiten dem Turbo freien Lauf gelassen. Wenn mich am Berg jemand anschieben wollte, den habe ich dann kurzerhand abgehängt. Dann ging der Verbrauch von 4,5 Liter auf über 6 Liter hoch. Wie gesagt, der CO2-AUSSTOß von gerade mal 90 gr/km wird nur im ECO-MODUS erreicht. Diese Erklärung spart sich die Fiat aber grosszügig. Das tolle ist die Jahressteuer von gerade mal 18 Euro.
Also dann, viel Spaß beim Testen.

Da schafft man mit dem Abarth auch und hat wesentlich mehr Spaß, weil man nicht ständig im Begrenzer hängt. 😉

Man kann auch im Turbo Modus besonnen Gas geben ohne das sich gleich der Tankwart freut.
Übrigens, der Tankwart verdient schon seit etlichen Jahren nicht mehr viel am Sprit. Der macht inzwischen mehr Kohle mit seinen Marketenderwaren, wie Getränke, Süßigkeiten, Zigaretten und Zeitschriften.

TwinAir sounds great and, like any car, it CAN be quite fuel efficient... if driven the right way. All official MPG figures are based on a very short, artificial test that bears no relation to real world driving. Which is why very few cars ever get close to the official figures. That's not the fault of vehicle manufacturers.
