  • The best free dispersed campsites are not found on national forest maps. In this video I discuss how to find the best dispersed campsites and free tent camping in the national forest. Video is recorded at a free dispersed campsite where we tent camped for the night on the banks of the East Fork of the Greenbrier River. Grid coordinates for the free dispersed campsite shown in the video are: 38.6182704, -79.6769121
    Here is a link to my related video showing the access road and approach to this campsite: • Free Dispersed Camping...

    That's a beautiful site. I'm just imagining laying down in the tent listening to that slow river ripple through the night.

    I'm so grateful for finding your video's! I retired March 31,2020 and look forward to doing some tent/hammock camping with my sons and camping with my wife in my cargo trailer conversion when I get it converted.

    Love this. Thank you. I grew up dispersed camping in the Sierra Nevada and now living in Ohio I'm struggling with the lack of public land. This is useful.

    Love it!!
    I go offroading in the George Washington National Forest about once a month and always utilize dispersed camping and try to find great scenic spots to settle down for the evening.
    Prefer it over paying for a site in an overcrowded campground any time!

    I've been watching a lot of your video's, especially the WV ones and can't wait to get up that way. My question is are most of your trips to the Monongahela NF during the week or on weekends. The places never really look that busy...........which is awesome. lol

      Good question! I intentionally scout both dispersed camping areas and affordable campgrounds midweek to better accommodate video production, so as to not encroach on camper's privacy.

    Doesn't dispersed camping on NFS lands require a 1/2 mile separation from vehicle? I just camped in Sumter NF in SC and even with a handicap permit couldn't camp any closer than that to my vehicle.

    • @LivingOurDreamNow
      @LivingOurDreamNow  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      First time someone has raised this issue with me. All the national forests I’ve camped at allowed dispersed camping from the vehicle or RV as designated. Vehicle Use Maps are helpful in determining whether camping with a motor vehicle is allowed within the applicable forest.

    • @clarkmorrison7243

      National Forest rules are highly localized, and Sumter NF does indeed not permit car or RV camping in dispersed sites. Most National Forests do allow RV camping in dispersed sites. Where I live near the Hoosier National Forest (Indiana) there is no prohibition of alcohol or firearms in the National Forest, indeed target shooting is permitted under certain circumstances. I recently camped in the Bankhead NF in Alabama, and prominently on the campground bulletin board "ALCOHOL AND FIREARMS ARE PROHIBITED".

    • @LivingOurDreamNow
      @LivingOurDreamNow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The scouting route through the forest is the last step. Online research will dictate your route. Campendium, Freecampsites.net are the low hanging fruit, but there are lots of resources available to indicate the existence of potential motorized campsites for dispersed camping. Google Earth is not to be overlooked. Watch the video titled Allegheny Trail within the Free Camping in WV Playlist. Google Earth led me to this campsite and the driving reconnaissance confirmed the existence.
