japanese people were very ahead of their time when it comes to gaming in the west most people born before 1970 can't tell the difference between a game boy and a PlayStation. i have even seen some people born in the 80s that do this despite growing up when video games existed and being only 10 years older than me
I was wondering if they ever cameod in King of Fighters or a fighting gamr as part of the background, but as "fighters" was not what I expected. Kinda want the Strikers back, if only to have more obscure deep cuts.
For anyone wishing there were quiz games in this style and in english... there are! Well, 1 anyway. An arcade game called Quiz and Dragons. Youll need to use mame or emulate the Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 for PS2. Hope you know lots of 80`s USA centric baseball and TV/movie trivia. Unless you go into the extras section of the PS2 collection and play the new version exclusive to that port, which changes everything to be about capcom games.
These scenarios are hilariously wacky in all the right ways. I like all the different endings too. This feels like it puts Jackbox's trivia games to shame, and I wouldn't mind seeing someone take a modern day crack at it. Similarly wacky scenarios, maybe with more general trivia instead of references that'll become dated in a couple years.
I got every single question right. I didn't remember the Parodius weapon loadouts and just guessed Tail Gun because that didn't seem like something they'd put on Pentarou. If I understood more Japanese or they just had it in English I might really enjoy these games.
I've been so looking forward to this Japan exclusive quiz game sequel since you covered the prequel so many years ago and boy did it ever deliver in fun zany Japanese media specific quirkiness. Loved the time travelling scenario but would have loved it better if they accidentally got stuck in ancient Greece to get quizzed by snarky spartans and wise assed centaurs.
i've owned both of these quiz games for years and have not really been able to play through them... so thank you for this, I have new motivation to dig into these 🫡
I loooove the art and the absurdity of this game. It’s fun to see unfold through your vid, I definitely love your style of semi-walkthrough! Keep up the great vids.
Bwahahaha. You're right Alec. It's the Japanese version of Col. Sanders. Not THIS really made my day bro. I was belly laughing on the side of the chair. 8^) Anthony...
I will always be a sucker for 1980s time travel movies. Back to the Future and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure are two of my favorite nostalgia inducing movies of all time.
We spent a lot of time setting ours up and setting it off as kids, but never actually played the game. Our rub-a-dub tub didn't work -- For some reason it was leaning the wrong way, so the ball would get stuck there. We always had to help that part along.
@@23ScaduI don't actually have any follow up on the Welles-riff, I'm just here to say that MonoBamse is a cursed concept that I will not be able to stop thinking about. You have cursed me. Potentially even put me in despair.
aside from the language barrier, this game sounds like a really wild time! IDK how the other non-gaming questions compare to something like quiz and dragons, so I can't say how much easier in general it'd be without needing to know Japanese to begin with.
I'm surprised SNK didn't try and make a more generic quiz game for the West, like a fake game show or something, would have been a great way to get the cabinets into bars, clubs and pubs. Add a couple of sports games onto the machine too and it would have been a winner.
10:30 Is that Japanese “Pulp Fiction” John Travolta on the far left?!?!? (sorry, I know how this worked in this era of Japanese gaming with pixelated likenesses of people in games, and you pointing out the likenesses yourself, but just wanted in on the action…. thank you for y’all’s videos. Allows me to geek out too.)
Future Neo looks like Orson Wells to me. Is this another case of a Japanese celebrity bearing an uncanny resemblance to a Western one, or do you think it's actually Orson?
So I'm curious, does this channel have a regular schedule or is it just "whenever I feel like it?" It felt like for awhile an episode was every Sunday but sometimes you miss that. Also, is there a system in place for when you'll do a Neo-Geo vs a PC game, or is it--once again--just "whatever I feel like doing?" I dunno if I'm in the minority but I actually prefer the Japanese PC stuff over the Neo-Geo stuff. Mostly because I find RPGs and adventure games more interesting and I love the plot summaries... though I hope Neo-Geo will get more of those too (one reason I got into King of Fighters was that it was actually kinda story-heavy by fighting game standards).
Edmond this is a shared channel. My brother makes Neo Geo videos when he is able to, and generally I am the one who has more time on my hands to make videos these days. We help each other out as needed, but for the most part each of these video series are a one-man operation. Each of my videos take anywhere between 2-4 weeks to produce depending on the game, so the release schedule can become very irregular. There was a period last month when we happened to have three short videos ready to release in rapid succession, but generally a new video every other week is the very fastest rate we are able to work at here. So I appreciate your understanding. - Mr. Jakes
@@BasementBrothers You and the Neo-Geo guy sound so much alike I assumed there was just one person despite the "Brothers" in the name. Thanks for clearing that up.
We have a regular posting time (Sunday evening) but don't have a regular schedule. We try to space them out so we don't go too long without posting a video. -Neo-Alec
Maybe you could say that. "Tagosaku" is actually a type of pants that rice farmers wear. I think the main idea is that calling someone "Tagosaku" means they are old fashioned and uncool. The nickname seems to have fallen out of use though nowadays so I wouldn't go throwing this term around to Japanese people and expect them to know what you're talking about. :)
1940s Japanese soldiers were known to be experts on video games released 40+ years later...
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought the same thing. Maybe he is a time traveler as well!

@@belstar1128It's a sweet spot of being born right in the 1970's.
That was tripping me out lol
I was thinking the same thing. WW2 soldier seems to know an awful lot about video games for a man living before the transistor was invented.
The duo(Neo & Geo) appeared in KOF 2000 as maniac striker for Ramon.
Deep cut Neo Geo cameo strikers like them are why I love KoF '00 so much!

You boys be quizzin' down there?
Man, I'm a sucker for weird little games like these. Loved the video as always. I'm really looking forward to seeing the one on 3 count bout.
I used to brute force/credit feed my way through this, and I do actually like a lot of the music in this. Classic early Neo-Geo sound.
@10:38 these goons are all based on pro wrestlers. Riki Choshu, ???, Jumbo Tsuruta, and Akira Maeda.
I believe the other guy's fujinami
Atsushi Onita @ 16:27 too! I'd recognize that mullet anywhere.

Much appreciated! Working on it!
The villain is based on Kato Yasunori from Teito Monogatari. Vega (or M. Bison outside Japan) was also inspired by the same character.
I'm so glad someone else knew the reference!

I did get the Big wings Fantasy Zone question right on account that I recall it was one of the cheaper items in the game.

There's a certain thrill to getting a guess right!
You're right Neo Alec, I have been playing a lot of Fantasy Zone! Lol!
I incorrectly guessed that the square Tetris piece was blue from all my years playing a certain arcade version. Dang sneaky quiz master trolls!

30 Helens agree that is a DEEP cut.
30 90's kids who watched Comedy Central disagree!
This was way more fun to watch than I thought a video on a quiz game was going to be. Japan rules. Thanks for bringing this to us!
Whoa, was that Onita as one of the celebrities? I'm pretty sure they used Riki Choshu's likeness in a couple of the scenes too.
That's definitely Onita and Choshu.
Nice, a KITH reference! Now all you need is a neo geo game with someone or something called Eradicator

It's so funny how they all want to resolve things with a quiz
I adored the late 80s/early 90s arcade scene where the Neo Geo was king. So many interesting and weird games, especially stuff like this.

Old man Neo (or Geo? Already forgot) looks like Orson Wells.

I find the implication that World War 2 happened in the Neo Geo Quiz world kind of interesting.
There were nazis in the first one!🤔
It all started because Chamberlain didn’t know who Donkey Kong was…
The video game quiz in the 40s made me laugh lol. Man Neo Geo games still look great tho visually

How in the world do you have the full library of neo geo games at your disposal?
MVS carts were very cheap until recently.

The story in this game makes about as much sense as any other Neo Geo game of the time.
These quiz games are insane and hilarious, I hate quiz games. And yes, I do play a lot of Fantasy Zone, SEGA!

What's wrong Colonel Sanders? Chicken?
