It was the 2018 Shot Show. I was using the bathroom and Jay walks up to the urinal next to mine. At some point I realize he’s peeing on my freakin shoe!!I was like “dude! Watch where you’re aiming that thing!” I’ll never forget, he turned and said, “that’s the Knife Beaters pee on your shoe, son! You can sell that shit on EBay! You’re welcome!” Then he lets out a big old fart, zips up his fly and walks out. Didn’t even wash his hands!
I have a Tuna and the 8crmov14 they’re using makes a difference in edge retention. I’m to understand that minor change helps the heat treat. Whatever it does, I can tell you I have to sharpen the Tuna less than my other 8CR knives.
I really want the CRKT SQUID Assisted opening pocket knife. But bass pro shops and sportsman's warehouse in Pennsylvania where I live at don't have it yet. But I do plan on buying it as soon as I can get my hands on it.
I was kind of surprised that they changed the squid. I kind of like the changes but also would have preferred to have the older version also. Enjoyed the comparison and review.
Hi Jay. Looks good to me although i'm not a fan of assisted. The slightly wider scales would probably fit my hands better. Can't believe it, I got here before Dogan! A first for everything! lol. All the best.
I hear ya. They're not my favorite, but I don't mind assisted opening. A lot of people feel the same way as you. I can't believe I haven't seen a comment from Dogan yet. Thanks Don!
I am finding nothing about this knife that I don't love. I have the original squid and it is great little knife. Man, this one is going to be hard not to pick up! Thanks for the review Jay!
Hi Jay, Your reviews have helped me a lot and I have followed your links to get more knives from Amazon. I have carried Swiss Army knives since the 80's and Leatherman's for the 90's Your reviews are Very Good!!! Thank you Very Much!!!
Hi Jay. I have really enjoyed your reviews, very informative, detailed, and pros and cons on the knife. Also thanks for the coupon code to White Mountain Knives. Since watching your reviews I have bought 5 knives from them. The ABKT Grunt, CRKT Squid Flipper, Kizer Domin mini, Kershaw Fraxion, and the Bestech Bobcat witch I was a little hesitant on getting because you said the handle was like a broom stick. But I am so glad I got it, it feels really good in the hand. Thanks Jay and keep the reviews coming.
Speaking of small knives… I'd like to see your take on the Kansept Goblin. Sheepsfoot blade, front flipper or thumb hole deployment, S35VN, titanium frame lock, a handle design that gives a lot of gripable area.
I have a Squid with a D2 blade and I really like the flipper idea especially since the knife is on the small side for my hands it will make it a lot easier to open, thanks for the review always on the money.
Morning Sir, Yeah, this is a great little knife I really like the assisted opening, it really jumps out there. Oh and thanks for the links to your store. Might as well do some good while I feed this knife addiction.
Thanks for the review Jay! The Squid is just too small for my XL hands but I was amazed at the grip I can get on the CRKT Pilar with the forward choil. Also a small knife but a better design for me.
For 20 bucks that's a pretty nice knife. I know a lot of knife enthusiasts scoff at assisted opening. But they haven't reached the age when hand and finger strength diminishes. So as always, thanks for these wonderful vids.
What an excellent point you make! I know I'm guilty of this too, but sometimes we just don't appreciate stuff until it's gone. Thanks for the perspective Jack.
I hear ya Scott. For the longest time, I wasn't a fan either. I looked at it from a different perspective, now I like it as a secondary carry. I know where you're coming from though.
I got mine in yesterday. The first time I tried using the thumb stud I cut my thumb. The knife opened and my thumb kept going and went down on the blade. Won’t do that again.
Another great informative video Jay...thanks. I've still never bought a Squid, maybe it's just the fact that although I love smaller knives, there's other options that are lighter or have different designs that fit my hand...or better blade steel....I'm enjoying my Kizer Mini Begleiter enough right now...Take care.
You bet Andrew, thank you. I know what you mean though, lots of competition in this category. I still need to try a mini Begleiter, especially since you like it so much.
Welp, now this one is on my list. Not gonna lie, Jay. I was a little disappointed that you didn't do the review in the same gear you had on in the thumbnail! 😂 Hope you are doing well.
Really, you think I should've kept it all on? I thought people would think it looked stupid. Next time I most definitely will keep it on then. Thanks Nick!
Am I missing the appeal of the Squid? I love CRKT but I've never been interested in that one. How about passing one along and I will send it back to you? LOL
I hear ya because I didn't always like it either. Now I usually carry it as a backup. If you're serious, email me. I don't mind letting you check it out. I still have your info.
@@TheKnifeBeater at first I was serious. But I don’t wanna ask you to send a $30 knife. I will end up purchasing one. Between you and JT you are convincing me that I should have this knife. But thanks for the offer. I’ll have ask you when you get one I can’t afford. 👍🏻
Crkt was a very big favorite brand for me until I bought my last crkt knife I will ever own. The statement they use for their brand, confidence in hand......... not from the last knife of theirs I will own.
If I see a video of a successful de-assist on this knife, I'll buy one right away. I feel you don't need to assist a knife if you can design it well. Heck, it already has bearings. You just need to tune a detent at that point. All of this adding assist to existing knives by CRKT just seems like pure laziness.
Yeah, I know what you mean Ian. I don't mind AO, but I agree, I wish it was manual. I'm actually in the middle of an attempt to de-assist it. I'm recording it, so I'll upload my findings today.
I was bored with knife channels for a while, but this channel has me interested again.
I like the idea of a flipper tab on the squid. Thanks for showing this one, Jay!
No problem David👍
0:29 Top left, Graham Razel 4030 cameo. I don't have many/enough knives, but I'm glad that's one of them
Hi Jay! Doesn't matter if you show me a Knife I like or not, I just appreciate your Videos so much! Greetings my Friend!
Thanks for saying that Dogan!
Hey Dogan. Can't believe i commented before you, lol. Hope you are well.

Hi Jay Thanks for the update on the 2492. It looks attractive and easy to use. Looking forward for your next video. Cheers

@@TheKnifeBeater I’m a fan of Lucas Burnley’s stuff. I have the older stainless Squid. It is overbuilt and I like it.
Love my Squid. Now I need.that one!
👍

I know the steel isn't anything exciting, but the price is somewhat affordable. Thanks Will.
@@TheKnifeBeater I am not super picky about steel on a more budget knife. As long as it is a solid package I am all good.

Have to admit Jay, not a fan of the Squid. I'd take something like a WE Banter instead.
No comparison on that one, Banter way better
I hear ya Scott. For the longest time, I wasn't a fan either. I looked at it from a different perspective, now I like it as a secondary carry. I know where you're coming from though.
Looks nice for a smaller knive!
I would totality go for a non assisted 4 inch version without the tumbstuds.
That would be pretty nice. Thanks Roel.
Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!
Thanks, will do Alexander!
Hey Jay, assisted opening knives are kind of like brussels sprouts… Not for everyone. Great review as always keep them coming
Lol! Good one.
I'm interested in the Squid xm
That's a very interesting development!
It sure is, thanks

Love the knife. I wonder if we'll get a G10 model?
That would be awesome!
What knife is that over your shoulder with the sheep’s foot blade and bolster? Second from the top.

Thanks for the review. Looks like a good knife.
Very interesting. Thanks for sharing 👍🏼
You bet Keith, thanks!
I’m afraid I’ll have to have one of these, even though it’s less graceful than the original. Flippers are good. I love the squid. Thanks!
Well said! "Less graceful" is a perfect description. Thanks Su.
Love it but will wait for any other finish than the plain bead blast
Yeah, that's probably a good idea Frank.
A new variant of the Squid. I'm sure it will be very popular.
I think you're right Tom. Probably even more so if it wasn't assisted.
Awesome hoodie
Like the Pilar, a bit heavy for it's size. (I *DO* like both)
Me too Red. Thanks
Who can possibly give Jay a 👎? You know who you are and you should be ashamed of yourself! Thanks for the videos Jay! 👍👍👍👍

What the blank is a choil wtfunk
That's no squid ,that's a cracken jay
Lol! Yeah, technically it would be.
Pretty underwhelming plain boring knife lol

I liked my Squid, until I finally lost it for the last time. Slippery little suckers.
Lol
Non assisted pls companies; kinds tired of hard to close spring asisted.
I know what you mean. This one isn't too bad though, a little easier to close. Thanks
