the black sands and such, also heavily used for Death Stranding, is Iceland. This scene specifically the southern black sands (volcanic and glacial-runoff/rivers territory). I think the mountain they use (background of the homestead and the hideout mini-bunker (cool concept) location) is Hjörleifshöfði (said to be haunted, it's the only mountain in a relatively wide flat sandy (green and black) area on the southern coast).
there was a team here filming and such for death stranding to use it to generate not-Iceland but a sorta "young-ish earth" looking wilderness terrain. So there's no IRL location IN that game, per se (afaik) but it was used to generate this sort of terrain (volcanic "still growing" sorta theme).

One of the things Disney has actually done right since purchasing Lucasfilm. This movie makes reading the opening scroll in Episode 4 have much more feeling. Mon-Mothra was a Republic/Imperial Senator, that was a leader in the Rebellion.
Carrie Fisher passed away shortly after this film opened in theaters. I saw it in theater two weeks after she passed away. I had a crush on her from the age of 4 1/2 when I saw the original Star Wars in theater in 1977. When Leia turned around and said, "hope", I wept.
@@Theomite I held it til I saw her face. I knew it was a different actress, but seeing HER face on this young actress tore me up. I have seen the behind-the-scenes for this, and they picked a great actress for the stand-in. She had similar enough facial bone structure that the computerized face fit like a glove. People who complained about her CGI are just too critical. Just celebrate the fact they brought her in, tying the beginning of Episode IV nicely too the end of Rogue One.

The opening scene on the black beach was filmed somewhere in Iceland. Remember Yavin? We were taken there way back in the first movie. It was the location of the rebel base in that jungle setting. Rather than Jin's father, he (Saw Guerrera) was the one who rescued her from the hiding pit, and subsequently raised her. Did you notice at around 10:45 that the commander of the original Death Star is the same guy as in 1977, and hasn't aged a day, made possible by the recent technology where a young face can be "pasted" over another's face. They did the same thing at the end with Leia's/Carrie Fisher's older face. At 16:55, not bad fighting for a blind guy, huh? He doesn't know Leia, so he's speaking of Jinn. Scarif was filmed in the Indian Ocean country of Seychelles (SAY-shells). Yes, both Red and Gold leaders were in Chapter 4.
This was a good movie. Loved how they tied it into the original trilogy. They had originally had everyone survive at the end cause they thought Disney wouldn’t like them killing so many of the main characters at the end. They were told they needed to have a different ending to tie into the original trilogy like they made it clear that the pilot Red Five died leaving the spot open for Luke to take. Also sending all of Blue Squadron down to Scarif and not make it out to explain why there wasn’t a Blue Squadron in the Original Trilogy (they couldn’t use the color blue a lot back then due to the use of blue screen technology. Check out R2 when he’s in the X-Wing and his blue parts look black so to not interfere with the blue screen special effects). A funny part to watch is when K2 slaps Cassian on Jedha. If you watch Cassian closely he’s trying not to laugh cause that part was improvised.

I wouldn’t be surprised the opening scene was filmed around Vik in South East Iceland. It’s know for the black volcanic sandy beaches and I will say miserable rainy weather. It’s beautiful, but really wet.
Gold Leader and Red Leader were taken from the original Star Wars film. It was an homage to them. But then there was... that one Red Five... and now you know why "Red Five" was available for Luke when he joined Rogue Squadron.

Of course it looks like the Original Trilogy, it ends literally a couple of hours before the beginning of A New Hope. They worked hard to add in bits from Red and Gold Squadron's attack on the Death Star in Ep. 4 to this to make it REALLY authentic. Sadly, all of Blue Squadron was shot down on Scarif, hence why they're not in Ep. 4 :( The red haired lady on Yavin is Mon Mothma, a Senator and the civilian leader of the Rebel Alliance. this is by far the grittiest star wars movie but also one of the best. multiple scenes made me cry in this film, even including the last scene with vader in the hallway, as darth vader is my favourite cinema character of all time and finally seeing him look absolutely terrifying and menacing sent me into an emotional rollercoaster. this movie might be one of if not the best theatre experience i ever had.
Lot of people criticized the CGI of Peter Cushing (Tarkin) and Carrie Fisher (young Leia), but I think creators wanted that way similar to original: New Hope in which was made in 1977. Then software gotten improved since 2016.
Grand Moff Tarkin is Peter Cushing. Fun fact. In the original movie, A New Hope, he requested in his contract to wear his slippers. He is never shown from the ankles down.
Blows my mind anytime people try to claim Tarkin looks bad. It's absolutely perfect. And it's not 100% CGI. It was a dude named Guy Henry and then CGI'ed his face.
Alan Tudyk, who played Hogan Washburn, aka Wash, in Firefly/Serenity, was K-2SO. Fun trivia, when K2 smacked Andor in front of the stormtroopers, Alan accidentally struck the guy really hard. His apology was real, and Diego (Andor) was holding his hand in front of his face because he was laughing and trying to hide it. Rewatch that moment and you'll see his grin behind his hand. 😁😂
Mon Mothma mentioned “many Bothans died to get this information” but she was referring to the second Death Star. The only reference to Rogue One was in the crawl of Episode 4

Visualize the size of the big Star Destroyer. Then do the same with the gigantic Death Star that dwarfs it (just like you said) and then imagine the data it would take to have a detailed plan of that thing. That’s why the file is that size.
i know im late here but ive always wondered how they can have giant space travelling ships and technology out of this world... but as soon as a character looks through a set of binoculars the screen is blurry/ old
This was such a different Star Wars movie and the best live action example of how the franchise could expand at that time. It paved the way for series like Mandalorian.
I doubt if the statue was of any Jedi we'd recognize. The Jedi order had been around for literally THOUSANDS of years. So they give you the idea that some ancient Jedi (or simply the order itself) was memorialized with a giant statue which has long since crumbled.
Tarkin was CGI however Leia was only partly CGI. Carrie Fisher played the character in Rogue One but they used CGI to make her younger… she passed away the same year 🥲
I saw A New Hope the first weekend it was released in 1977, and I feel exactly the same way. This was the first Star Wars movie since then that gave me the same feeling of elation as I left the theater.
Add me to this. I saw "Star Wars" - long before it was Episode IV - on opening day in Houston. I was 10, and it was the most amazing thing I had ever seen. Thirty-nine years later I saw this with my sons and grandson on opening day in Orlando. And I felt like I was 10 again. There is a short story in the novel, From a Certain Point of View, that actually picks up right after Rogue One on the Corvette ship that mentions the attempted travel to Tatooine. If you have not done so yet, you may enjoy reading the novel (or listening to the audiobook) Catalyst. That is a great read and leads up to Rogue One. Also, the novel Rebel Rising is 1 of my favorite new canon Star Wars novels that also adds a whole lot to the backstory of Jynn Erso and Saw Gerrera that makes this movie even more fun and iconic. Put Catalyst, Rebel Rising and Rogue One together and it paints an even more complete, beautiful trilogy. Personally, 1 thing I would've changed is to still have a crawl at the start of the movie and put in a short summary of the novel Catalyst to catch viewers up on, but I can also understand why they may not have wanted to ruin the novel at all. But, I do think the start of this movie is a bit of a jolt. All the new canon novels mention different planets. In fact, some of the coffee table books (e.g. the Ultimate Visual Guide of Rogue One) has a map of the galaxy and all the various planets like Jakuu and Jedha. I cannot remember if JV ever saw Star Wars Rebels, but did he catch that on the Rebel base, you see Chopper and on the loudspeaker they call for Captain Hera? Also, the list of other Empire projects Jynn flips through while looking for StarDust was cool, including lightspeed tracking, which was done in The Last Jedi.
The actor who portrayed Tarkin (an actual person on set, same as with the actor for Leia) also portrayed the imperiused Minister of Magic in HP The Deathly Hallows.
Carrie Fisher did get to see this movie when it premiered before she passed away. She reportedly did squeal happily like a girl when she saw her younger self appear onscreen.

So you may want to call it incompetence (feel free, not my problem i can not fix ur problem, time may manage it as you mature, no idea but to me you sound like an instant gratification gen z kiddy who thinks if you make best effort and show competence then results should reflect it, but there are a lot if factors beyond your performance out there and the older one gets the more one realises it), still everyone else understands that sometimes life and circumstances aren't in your favour (the force works in mysterious ways).

What was their objective?
I'm not gen Z, but my generation has nothing to do with his incompetence.
the black sands and such, also heavily used for Death Stranding, is Iceland.
Loved your reactions, and appreciate the realism of you having to be parents while still doing this production.
I have always thought that the scene were Director Kredic is looking up from the floor seeing the death star in orbit as a scene taking from Star Trek ll when Khan set s the genesis device to self destruct
The whole suicide mission plot is certainly no stranger to cinema. Rogue One is kinda like Star Wars meets The Dirty Dozen.
As I left the theater, I was calling it "The Dirty Dozen saves Private Ryan from the Guns of Navarone."
13:39 About your kid, there are socks that can monitor a baby's vitals with real-time data you can see and hear on your phone. Hope that helps and best to your family.
Also thanks for the reaction to R1! My favorite SW movie of the Disney era
Location of the black beach is Iceland. Had to opportunity to be there… amazing
I'm so glad you guys are watching Andor afterward.
Rogue One is the last movie I saw with my mother, when she was still alive. She loved it. Hold a special place in my heart for this reason.
The tank is actually a very real (and very thinly disguised) vehicle. It's an ex-British army Alvis Stormer armoured fighting vehicle flat bed variant, normally used for carrying the 'Shielder' minefield laying system.
That tank was only one in Star Wars so far that had tracks/treads.
@@SuperStreetWarrior not really, the droid army had tracked units. NR-N99 Persuader tank droids were seen a lot at the Battle of Kashyyyk in Revenge of the Sith, they were certainly tracked too.
Forest Whitaker is so good at being this bedraggled old cyborg that I have to watch "Arrival" again after this movie to remind myself that he wasn't at death's door in 2016.
I lost it when the door opened and I saw her shroud and I realized that they were going there.
The death star plans would be huge, the base itself its the size of a moon

Did you guys ever react to ANDOR? I loved it, and after this I was so excited to see your reactions, but I don't see them anywhere on your channel. I hope you'll share them if you did react to the show, since it was just fantastic. Thanks for another great reaction, meanwhile!
One of my favorites I can watch this over n over
The opening scene on the black beach was filmed somewhere in Iceland.
Episode 4, not Chapter 4.
Yet still bad.
@@andymiller6661 that’s your opinion that your allowed to have. I’d like to see you make a better movie.
@@bidwell13 It's fact.
Oh snap. You challenged me to make a better movie! Whatever will I do? That bold challenge erases any right I have to say that a movie is bad, no matter how true it is.

@@bidwell13 Great. Doesn't mean that I'm wrong, though.
So... you didn't react to the Andor episodes? Explored your channel but there's nothing there - That's a shame.
And yes, Rogue Squadron was renamed, from just Red Squadron, because of Rogue One.
"I am what you made me 53:19"
I actually didn’t notice the CG tarkin until my brother pointed it out.
Pretty sure it was shot in Iceland in parts of this movie.
45:36 _"Grab K-2SO's head and you can __-put him in a new body-__ have it with you on the beach when you all die."_ 😏😁
*Edit:* Oh, and having the main characters die used to happen more often in older movies. But ever since studios have become _sequel-happy,_ it doesn't happen as much anymore.
I feel like TH-cam is my second family always feel so happy when I see my favorite creators 💌
K2-S0, the droid, is the character with the most personality in the entire movie. 😂
Every single character became a hero in this movie. To me. It goes. Revenge. Then rogue one for top two star wars films by far
The red haired lady on Yavin is Mon Mothma, a Senator and the civilian leader of the Rebel Alliance. She wasn't in Ep. 4, but she was in Return of the Jedi.
Chirrut Imwe is played by Donnie Yen, a martial arts master in a lot of wuxia films
Justin, to answer your question, yes that X-Wing pilot in the battle scene was from Star Wars: A New Hope. They used archive footage. 43:44
this is by far the grittiest star wars movie but also one of the best. multiple scenes made me cry in this film, even including the last scene with vader in the hallway, as darth vader is my favourite cinema character of all time and finally seeing him look absolutely terrifying and menacing sent me into an emotional rollercoaster. this movie might be one of if not the best theatre experience i ever had.
Lot of people criticized the CGI of Peter Cushing (Tarkin) and Carrie Fisher (young Leia), but I think creators wanted that way similar to original: New Hope in which was made in 1977. Then software gotten improved since 2016.
The only worthy star wars movie from Disney ❤️
Grand Moff Tarkin is Peter Cushing. Fun fact. In the original movie, A New Hope, he requested in his contract to wear his slippers. He is never shown from the ankles down.
Pretty sure it wasn't in his contract. They made him boots that didn't fit.
Jehda. It was a Jedi statue
Blows my mind anytime people try to claim Tarkin looks bad. It's absolutely perfect. And it's not 100% CGI. It was a dude named Guy Henry and then CGI'ed his face.
The cgi on Leia looks way worse
If you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig.
No, it’s not. It looks extremely distracting
I think it only appears distracting because Peter Cushing is dead and then they go and recreate him, which can be disturbing
I wouldn't say he looks bad, but his face is very obviously CGI.
It was mentioned in one of the Star Wars films about the sacrifice made to get the plans to them ...... this was the story of that sacrifice.
Are you referring to this scene?
th-cam.com/video/k_4_NNHRjb4/w-d-xo.html
Mon Mothma mentioned “many Bothans died to get this information” but she was referring to the second Death Star. The only reference to Rogue One was in the crawl of Episode 4
@@bryanfoster362 It always blows my mind that people somehow mess that up.
Reaction to Rogue One and a shout-out to The Expanse, yes, I am happy! One of the best live action Star Wars in Rogue One and one of the best shows ever made in The Expanse.

Gareth Edward’s the director started his career for many many years as a visual effects artist. So that’s why it looks so good.
This was such a different Star Wars movie and the best live action example of how the franchise could expand at that time. It paved the way for series like Mandalorian.
Send for your friend (Obi Wan).... you'll need someone you can trust (to send for him).... I would trust her with my life (Leia).
I doubt if the statue was of any Jedi we'd recognize. The Jedi order had been around for literally THOUSANDS of years. So they give you the idea that some ancient Jedi (or simply the order itself) was memorialized with a giant statue which has long since crumbled.
When Lord Vader aboard on ship:
COSMIC HORROR
The statue wasn't anyone specific it was just of an ancient Jedi. Also the guy at 7:08 was Scottish not Irish.
Tarkin was CGI however Leia was only partly CGI. Carrie Fisher played the character in Rogue One but they used CGI to make her younger… she passed away the same year 🥲
Nope. The body was an actress named Ingvild Delia and then Leia's face tacked onto it.
Leia looked way worse than Tarkin yet people praise her look

So amazing of you to notice Red and Gold leader from A New Hope
Those opening landscapes were filmed in Reynisfjara, Iceland. And the spellchecker is really pissed at me. 😉
If I'm not mistaken the opening scene with the black sand is in Iceland.
My father put it best "this is the first time I felt this way since the first one came out on theaters"
During the climactic battle, I distinctly remember my grandson turning to me and asking "Are you okay grampa? You're giggling..."

When the rebel fleet drops out of hyperspace over Scarif, the Ghost ship from Star Wars Rebels TV show can be seen. Also the character Hera Syndulla from Star Wars Rebels name can be heard at the Yavin IV base.
Watching in release order is ALWAYS better.
Gold Leader was in Ep4 as was one of the other pilots, The Ghost from Star Wars Rebels is also present in the battle, and the tannoy called for General Syndulla (Hera)
The actress that Played Mon Mothma here is the same one from deleted scenes from Episode 3.
My opinion, outside of the original 6, this is the best Star Wars movie.
Yet still bad.
Lucas originally wanted red squadron to be blue but when they tried shooting the blue color did not work with the camera being used so it had to be switched to a color that did. They brought blue squadron into this movie to honor the original idea and it also explains why not a single blue squadron fighter was there in the battle of Yavin.
In the flashback scene where you see Jyn and her parents living in their posh apartment on Coruscant, the matte-paintings in background outside the windows are the same ones used in the prequel movie Coruscant scenes!❤
edit: ALSO, when Bail Organa says “I would trust her with my life” the first few notes of Leia’s theme start playing with the music!! 🪐
The polar bear comment is so true. Vader is like an asthmatic polar bear with a laser sword.
New Zealand has black sand beaches and very lush. Not sure that’s where that is. Iceland is also volcanic like that
Yep......opening scene was filmed in Iceland.

The scene in the beginning on the black sand is in Iceland place called Reynisfjara :)
@2:49 Since you are playing *Death Stranding* ,you should see a familiar face. Hope you are enjoying the game, its quite a special experience if it vibes with you.
Tarkin isn't completely CG. There's an actor voicing him and is in the uniform on set. They based it all on his performance.
K2S0 is a Leaf on the Wind. Watch how he soar....arrrg
This is my favorite Star Wars movie. That's why I'm having a hard time watching Andor b/c I already saw his last stand.....
Carrie Fisher did get to see this movie when it premiered before she passed away.
She reportedly did squeal happily like a girl when she saw her younger self appear onscreen.
The opening scene was shot east of the small town of Vík in the south of Iceland.
16:28 It was Donnie Yen's idea to make his character blind.
Gareth Edwards loved the idea so much and made the change.
