    Good info and very clear video considering how tight things are in that area around the filter. Looks like the new gasket is a redesign to address a common problem.

      On the Oreilly Auto website, the gasket is the same, so I would assume the entire repair procedure is very similar if not identical.

    I need to do this. Put it off almost a year. Been keeping an eye on my coolant level and now it’s beginning to drop some. Assuming coolant is starting to escape through this gasket. Oil filter adapter is pretty saturated with oil. Do you recommend replacing the sending unit while doing this?

    • @InsaneOil
      @InsaneOil  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My rule is that when I have a bunch of the vehicle torn apart, I might as well swap a couple extra parts given the age of the vehicle.

    What coolant do you run? I just bought a 2001 F150 5.4 and the coolant is brown.. I see the manual calls for Green but is Gold better?

    • @InsaneOil
      @InsaneOil  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I run Amsoil Low Toxicity Antifreeze & Coolant. It lasts longer over the Green and has a tendency to do a little better job cooling. Additionally, because it is low toxicity, I am not concerned if some gets dumped on the ground. www.amsoil.com/p/low-toxicity-antifreeze-and-engine-coolant-ant/?zo=10458

    Insane Oil, was draining the coolant necessarry to do the job, or was it just because you were doing a flush?

    • @InsaneOil
      @InsaneOil  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a coolant port in the adapter plate, so you would loose coolant when you opened it up.

    Hey there, I have a pretty significant oil leak due to the same gasket. Pretty confident I can do it myself. How long did the process of actually removing the adapter plate, replacing the gasket, and replacing the adapter plate take? In the video you said “significant” amount of time.

    • @InsaneOil
      @InsaneOil  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'd give yourself half a day. Draining the oil/coolant & removing the Filter and removing the adapter plate - 30 min to 1 hr. Replacing the gasket and reinstalling the adapter plate 1 hour. And 2 and a half hours extra when things don't go perfectly smoothly. If I had it on a lift and wasn't filming it, it would have gone pretty quickly.

      What’s the torque spec on those 4 bolts for the oil filter adapter?

  • @grahammedlock3094
    @grahammedlock3094 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I disconnected the radiator hose from the top of the oil filter adapter and was able to completely remove the adapter. It made it easier to clean both mating surfaces. OIL PRESSURE SENSOR connected to the oil filter adapter should be replaced while adapter is off the vehicle. The sensor will fail and leak directly through itself and out of the electrical connector. I only say this because I still had a leak after doing this job and wished I had replaced the oil sensor while it was out of the truck. I bought a new sensor and it did the trick but it was 10x harder getting it in while the adapter was already in place.

      My rule of thumb if it ain't broke don't fix it, i just did mine and thought this too but mine looks like it won't be hard to replace but i will have to invest in some good ratcheting open ended wrenches for it if that day comes.

    If I had ONE complaint for my F150......it's the stupid location they put the oil filter on 4x4 models in this generation of the truck. I have yet to be able to find a good way to change mine out that doesn't end up with bloody knuckles or an excess of fowl language.

      @@InsaneOil I thought about getting a filter relocation kit.....but I work at Cummins with diesel engines, I see the results of that often. Great idea....until a gasket fails or worse yet, you get into a fender bender and sever your oil lines, lol. I may make a "stubby" wrench for the filter and go from there. Thanks Ford Engineers!

  • @rocxylemmon8535
    @rocxylemmon8535 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I never use that stop leak crap, it is so griddy that it always destroys the water pump seals and then you will be replacing that in a bout a year and 6 months i bet...lol! I would had just did the gasket and left it at that, also the motorcraft gold coolent is much better on the engine heads and you don't need to do a flush as often.

    • @InsaneOil
      @InsaneOil  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the comment. I don't recommend stop leak as a permeant solution. Motorcraft is alright but it is still ethylene glycol based as opposed to propylene glycol as the Amsoil coolant is. Additionally, there is no clear lifespan on the Motorcraft coolant. Amsoil's is rated at 150,000 miles or 5 years in passenger cars and light trucks...and up to 1,000,000 miles or 8 years in heavy duty applications. www.amsoil.com/p/low-toxicity-antifreeze-and-engine-coolant-ant/?zo=10458
