to all Tipper fans: I appreciate the enthusiasm, but can people please chill out a bit about the idea of me going to see him live? I'm unfortunately stuck in the Chicago area and am not in a good enough place to travel long-distance to see him, he'd have to come somewhere close enough to where I live where I'd be able to come back home in the same night. my current financial situation is a big part of that, yes, but there's other logistical variables playing into that too so this isn't meant as a request for money. I'm aware that time and opportunities to see him live are running out what with his retirement on the horizon, but spamming me with comments about how great his live show is and how incredibly important it is that I personally see him before that time runs out isn't as helpful as you think it is also with all due respect, the sheer amount of people I've gotten hyping up Tipper's live shows and begging me to go see him is kinda doing more to throw me off than excite me? I feel like people are putting a level of pressure on this show that doesn't seem entirely healthy to me. if all the stars align and he does come to Chicago and I am able to score a ticket and see him, what happens if I only have a regular old good time like any other concert instead of some kind of life-defining religious experience as people are making his shows out to be? will y'all be offended by that in the same way a few of you were at my more lukewarm thoughts on some of his studio output? that's not saying I think the live experience is equivalent to the studio recordings, y'all have already made it EXTREMELY clear how much of a misconception that would be, and don't just say "well going to your first Tipper concert without having your life fundamentally changed is physically impossible" and continue to insist your experience is the be all and end all, I'm not you so there's no way to know that for sure, and I feel like the higher y'all try to set those expectations the less likely he's actually going to live up to them. also I don't smoke or do any drugs, so if you feel that's also a necessary part of the equation that's kind of just going to make it look less appealing to me tbh (tho nobody's actually said that, just kind of pre-empting people just in case) I'm sure Tipper's concerts are great, I'm sure I'd have a plenty fun time if I am able to go, I'm fully open to the idea that he can live up to all the hype and if he does come close enough to where I live then of course I'll make sure I can get a ticket. but if that opportunity doesn't come, imo that's not the end of the world, you don't need to act like my entire life depends on it
I dig the non bias approach. I think the reason so many tipper fans are connected to this album is because a lot of the tracks have been played live over the years. A lot of us have specific memories and emotions tied to these songs, even before the album came out. Cool hearing a review from a non fanboy. I'd love to hear your review of some of his uptempo LPs All the singles are uptempo for the most part, EPs are mostly downtempo
Great to get your view on this, even though I think it blew me away a little more than you (maybe I just go nuts for intricate sound design). I also appreciate how you always dig into the back catalogue to give context. I will for sure be checking out Broken Soul Jamboree as I also enjoy ethno type sounds a la Shpongle. I still think this guy is one to watch. Cheers!
Tipper is seriously one of the most kind hearted humble humans in the scene, and ive never actually heard him talk lol. He has his own festival that goes towards charities, and literally sold his music to get heart surgery.
If your giving him props on his insane sound design based off of albums that you found off the internet then you should see him Live and I promise his music is completely different then the music he releases
Broken Soul Jamboree is the Album the re-ignited my passion for electronic music and inspired me to make a legit effort to make some of my own, highly recommended.
Tipper is hands down one of the top 5 talented djs/producers of our times. If you go see him live, you will see exactly why hes so rare and talented. Your body will do things that you didnt know you could do, hes worth the $$ to go see. Promise. Party on folks! 👍🤘😜
Tip Hop was literally the first Glitch Hop release. It created the whole thing and then with Wobble Factor he pushed it further and inspired a whole wave of glitch producers.
Thanks for going down the Tipper rabbit hole! I think your review was really fair. I would like to request that you consider doing the same with Culprate - he is currently in the process of writing a crowd funded experimental record which should be out next year. He did the same a few years back (the album was called “Deliverance”) and it was a masterpiece.
EDMNINJA yeah you’re right, those were great. He’s got a really varied catalogue - almost feel like he should produce the experimental stuff under a different alias
@@jacquesbooyens104 and the Others EP. He is currently one of my favorite artists, his new EP is going to be god tier I can assure you that. I'm guessing early 2021, or very late 2020 (like december)
Fun fact, Bassnectar modeled some of his earlier work off of Tipper. Also I have to agree with the sentiments of others here in the comments. Dave has a good amount of EPs that showcase his uptempo talent and his live performances are IMO some of if not the best in the industry.
Putting out albums since 2000? He was in groups since ‘93/‘94 and one of them, Crunch, is amazing and had a great lifespan, Dave has been at it since before I was born (‘96)!!
surrounded & seamless i can’t live without lol. Holding pattern & Relish i play every morning. Broken soul & fwd esc.... well i mean just imagine those completely revamped on some of the best sound systems available in some of the most beautiful venues in the usa
i feel that by missing some of the Uptempo EP's in his catalog you did yourself a big disservice towards the experience of Jettison Mind Hatch. alot of very good tracks that help build through his sound design
I've been trying to look into it for a while now but ticket opportunities aren't as much of an issue so much as the fact that I'm stuck in the Chicago area with no easy means of long-distance travel and Tipper doesn't seem to be interested in coming anywhere near where I live (also gonna be honest the fans have been hyping his show up to such an unreasonable extent that I'm somewhat skeptical he could actually live up to, slightly worried about what y'all might say if I actually make it to a show and end up only having a solidly fun time instead of my entire life being changed by the experience)
The hype is not overblown. You just didn't fully experience his work. His work is meant to be experienced under the influence of a careful mixture between LSD, ketamine and DMT hits with occasional whippits mid-song.
I recommend checking out his EP's. much heavier but still very interesting dance floor oriented music that he hasn't put into any albums since wobble factor.
I also reccomend checking out this trilogy of eps from him for dubstep with his signature newer styles of sound design. Forward escape but less downtempo tipper.bandcamp.com/album/2012-ep-trilogy-bubble-control-puzzle-dust-shatter-box
Broken soul has still gotta be my favorite album but this one was good and I bought it off of Bandcamp in a heart beat once it was dropped. I think hearing his music as a newlistener really had my jaw dropped but now that I have become more familiar with lots more electronic music/IDM his work doesn’t blow me away as much as it once did. Still mad respect for him and appreciate the fact that after first hearing his music his music my musical tastechanged exponentially. Saw his big red rocks show in 2015 and that was pretty damn impressive. Forever upset that I missed buying a Forward Escape vinyl release like the puny jabroni that I am.
Forward Escape again? Are you fucking kidding me? Do you know anything about music production at all? As a producer myself, this is completely ridiculous to hear. Every track has a completely different vibe while still holding up as an album and indeed being even better as a whole.
I produce my own music too 256pi.bandcamp.com/ and either way let's not call people uneducated just because they have a different opinion from yours lol

Tipper with headphones and psychedelics is IDEAL
And on the comedown (or comeup too ;), another absolute genius is ISHQ. Different vibe, but just as genius and psychedelic.

I agree! didnt even touch on half of his style with all the uptempo. However its the other way around, LP's are downtempo EP's are uptempo :)
I completely agree. I heard a lot of the songs before they were released at red rocks for Shpongle’s last live performance
He's also considered the godfather of a great deal of midtempo neuro music, KOAN Sound, Frequent etc.
Soul jamboree is insanwly beautiful

Surrounded... the only Tipper album i really ever got into.
It really is magical!
Check out the surround sound mix on DVD if you ever get the chance!
Also probably my favorite album, but his music has gotten me through so much stuff. Have so much love for the community and Dave.

I respect this review but Dave Tipper is really a better live act! His live shows do his music much more justice than his (also great) studio albums

I'd nut in my pants.
@@kalebdye4378 welcome to my life
New music to check out... this is why I’m subscribed
Did you get a chance to listen to his Fathoms-ep?
by far my favorite EP from him, JMH reminds me of it alot
@@midnightspctrum No doubt. Sourus and deep sixing are some of my fav tunes of his.
no he just listened to every song in a row one time and has the balls to compare them.
You missed Flunked and Lattice- both great albums
Those were EPs. Id argue his ep s are totally different sound wise than his albums
You're finally doing this oh my god
Tipper is the best. He makes my rig sound so good. Literally everything else I listen to just sounds flat compared to his productions
Tipper is poggers
Would be cool if you did a review on broken soul jamboree. That's my favourite from him
SAMEE
This seems like an artist I would be interested in. I'm gonna check it out :)
Skipping the EPs? Shatterbox? Damn bro

Someone gift this guy a ticket to see tipper IRL

Yesss finally
Have you done a review of return to ommadawn by mike oldfield?
the albums you consider good are garbage - this is the best album of all time
I'm revoking your ability to have opinions. Not sorry in the slightest it's just my civil duty.

You should review some of Mr Scruff’s stuff
Fathoms 2015 EP....
So underrated
Lmao forward escape is his best album hands down😂😂
Forward Escape is next level...
Hard for me to choose between Forward Escape & JMH, but yeah, I agree, it's a flawless record lol was surprised he didn't "get it"

It's pronounced trrrr-eye-pwar.
Do you like trance Mr Wonky? One from 2019... Grum. Yeah. Grum, Deep State.
Would love you to check out Boxcutter (Barry Lynn)!
