Hey I'm just wondering but I live in your area and I see you ride on those trails and little off road bits and I was wondering if those are ok to ride on or if I have to ask the owner of the land if I could ride on them or if they are just ok to ride on.

Big plug on bottom of bowl is for main jet change. Out in the field or on the track. When applicable can just loosen carb up on machine and rotate to get to it and boom Nascar style main jet change.

Link arm set is still available if you order it for a later trx400 carb, costs 38 bucks thru Partzilla. It has that little spring in it.
Oh, and turn your idle speed down, it idles too high when warmed up.
Sounds like the muffler needs repacked to.

yeah not really good for someone testing and fixing things with engines.... but hey some have a garage with big ratrods and bikes and neigbours baddaddybrad and he still lives there just limited in space
oh okay people complains.... that sucks that is the worst.... people complaining about noise and even worse you driving on the road and they complain. i hate that... i drive my dirt bike in my garder and on the road on the road i have the right and in my garder i mean they are 100m away so dont complain u came living here after me..
Link arm shaft spring is what that is called that failed. Lol Ida bought a Chinese carb for $40 and robbed the part off it. In the factory service manual it does come apart. Of course can't just buy the spring through Honda, it was sold as a link arm kit no long available. I have a mix of Chinese parts on my oem Keihin carb on my 400 worked great. Was only missing few bits here and there. Never could get the Chinese carb to jet right.
Why not replace the spring and save $234 ;-;
or he couldve bought a good rebuild kit for 40$ smh
By the time you order all the parts for the carburetor and replace them all, it pretty much adds up to $230. Plus what of the spring and lever didn't fix it? Then you would have to buy a new carb anyway. Also, the customer was able to sell the old carburetor for parts and make some money back.

As pops would say “ you don’t know shit!”. Wonder if the customer is going to feel cheated knowing you didn’t even clean out or look at the old carb, didn’t even clean the slide and make sure the needle wasn’t bent 😂. Might be surprised what cleaning it could’ve done

He did go through the old carb in the last video. To me the dummy move was not fixing the old carb instead of spending$230 on a carb from Honda. Coulda saved the owner a ton of money. Now the owner just had to pay prolly $600 or $700 repair bill for a carb replacement
That would of been a easier fix and a lot cheaper
One for sure to just do a clean out properly going to keep the old carburetor and put it on his I've heard it done before maybe the customer just said to put a new one on it but I hope the customer watches and reads comments
@@grandpa-of-3898 we've all seen Joe jb weld a hole in a head on a quad he was flipping instead of replacing the head to maximize his profits but when it's someone else's money he's like yep $230 carb is the only solution. Surely the owner had to be like so my carb has a bad spring, can you replace the spring? At which point joe would have had to either say yeah but..... Or no because..... in order to justify a new carb
It would be a lot different if it was a piece of crap he bought and just to get it running but it's another thing if he's going to sale it or in this case fix it for a custom just isn't right like I said I hope the customer is reading this and yeah the JB weld on the head lmfao that got me laughing so hard

The spring wasn't bad the carb was just dirty. I've had the same problem and all I had to do was thoroughly clean the carb, some wd40 and worked fine. $10 fix
I cleaned it multiple times
When it happened to me I had to keep working the spring back and forth while spraying carb cleaner eventually it loosened up pretty good. Then I used wd40 to help lubricate it.
Go back to the original main on the carb its breaking up a little on the top end. Never mess with factory settings because of personal beliefs. If it's factory keep it factory. Not hitting rev limiter is starving for fuel in to end
Can't use factory setting with hot cam and aftermarket pipe.
How would going 7 jet sizes smaller fix it starving for fuel? The stock carb had 148 jet, he put 155 in it…
Could you not just replace the bad spring instead of the entire carb?
I was thinking the same thing, instead of buying a new carb he could off replaced the spring

Good move replacing the carb you could spend hours trying to sort the old carb out no telling what other people have done to it in the past 230 is not much for a new carb
Yeah that's what I figured. I don't know what the previous people did to it so I figured new carb is easiest way to go!
That’s it 230 for a new carb is very cheap plus it new so u know no more problems down the track for a while as trying to fix the old carb who knows how long it would last before more problems arise
You can get carbs for 50 bucks, just bought one for mine

Just read @Jack Dewinter comment , thats a great point , must of crossed peoples minds , what a bad design fault by honda , would be so much better if the spring could be replaced instead of scrapping a whole carb , every days a school day , well done 2Vintage at fault finding
i had a 250ex sporttrax with a stage 2 clutch in it.i always wanted to get the 400ex sporttex.would be a nice bike sounds very good.

Looks like the spring and link parts are still available from Honda so may not have needed to swap the whole carb. Running good now though.

I would have at least checked the plug after the rejet.for all you know it's burning a hole in the piston and you wouldn't know it.thats what ur getting paid for.not guessing....

I have a 1994 Honda 300ex. Whenever I let off the gas after higher rpm’s it backfires a lot. What do you think would be the problem.
Have you checked the valve clearances?

Probably running lean..
Generally a backfire after a hard rev is a lean condition, your main jet is to lean most likely. As far as the post above. Signs to know your valves are out of whack it will be hard to start. It’s not your valves it’s a jetting issue

I see them all the time on marketplace for $2500. Even see ones that the owner doesn't know how it fix for $1500. What pisses me off is seeing a 95 300 4x4 that's beat to shit for $3000
@@benmiller5015 I got my Trx400x for 3,000 in 2018 bone stock low hours all original. If I wanted to buy one like that now it would be 5,500$ plus crazy market.
@@Billy-Boggs the market has definitely lost its damn mind. Just in the last 6 months I've seen a general increase on pretty much all quads by at least a grand. But finding a decent deal on one that hasn't been beat to piss is hard to come across. N $3000 3 years ago was definitely a steal
I picked up my 2002 400 few months ago with a roached engine for $1k. Surprisingly enough it's in pretty minty shape. Kind of got lucky. Same in my area up in UP of MI. $2k over book value. I'm pretty sure I'm like 3-4 hours north of him. I don't know where he finds all the reasonable deals on bikes, atvs what not. Wouldn't happen in UP folks to proud of there old junk around here. Mean I've gotten some pretty good deals on stuff, pretty few and far between tho.

How much did the client pay for this to be done?
My 400ex has the same problem fully stock other than a after market air filter. It backfires and doesn’t idle. Valves are good, should i get a carb rebuild kit for it ?
Yeah really check over the carb and make sure everything is working properly
Just take it apart like he show's in these last couple videos, and clean out your jets. Check make sure your tank has good flow as well. There's not much in a "rebuild" kit you need if it's not leaking fuel. Unless the jets are corroded and un cleanable then just clean r up. Save few bux. In stock form 400s are pretty choked up. Good uni filter and a slip on with a re-jet will have you wondering why you hadn't done it sooner. Take the accelerator cover off to check the diaphragm in there make sure it's not all dried out. That would definitely cause running issues.

@@drewsgarage1007 Nahhh, pull it apart and check your floats and float valve (factory manual calls it that) n seat. That's what controls fuel coming in from tank. If it gets wore out it will keep letting fuel past n overflowing the bowl. There non adjustable so if it's bad just have to replace. When you pull it out there be a black tip on end should be able to tell if it's making a good seat at the bottom.

Hey How would I check if the carrier bearing is good in a 99 400ex??
Set up on a stand so axle is hanging in the air and grab a wheel see if it moves all over. You will be able to tell should be no movement in carrier to swing arm and axle to carrier should all be tight. then Spin the wheels by hand should be able to tell condition of bearings. Should roll like butter no chunky clunky spots.

Idle is to high and you shouldn't be out beating on a customer's bike making pathetic attempts at wheelies missing shifts and hitting the rev limiter. That's disrespectful and if that was my bike and I saw this video of you beating on my bike is be throwing you a beating not to mention you could've just replaced the spring not rape him for a carb
please get the proper gear on and a helmet enjoy your videos until you do that i just shut it off
