Absolutely ridiculous pricing on the new GCN kit but they look great. Cycling only for the wealthy these days or the deep in debt.
After all the talk about cycling getting too expensive you bring out a kit at over £300. Nice one.
Buying GCN kit is a great deal for them. You give them money to wear their kit and advertise there channel, owners business along with there kit sponsor.

Hi Glyn, yes this new kit has a high price tag because it’s the top level aero kit, but if you look at the GCN shop you’ll see that we have more affordable options too.

Fabien here from the Hack/Bodge of the week section. Agreed with Dan, my bar tape doesn't look great, that's because I didn't think about taking a photo of the broken shifter before I re-attached it!! I took the photo at the end of the day so the tight string had time to "imprint" itself in the cork style bar tape... It is the case on both photos of the broken shifter! Also the bar tape did get damaged in the fall which is why it looks terrible.. Finally, the piece of string is so long because that's my clothes hanging line and I wasn't willing to cut it :)

I have considered getting a GCN kit a few times before. Everytime I visit the site the final shipping cost added to the already expensive kit changes my mind. Sorry guys, I like to support but it is just over my budget!

@@awavey from what I have read, those team replica jerseys, are exactly that. Replica's. They are standard fit, not pro fit meaning that different levels of technology and production methods go into them 👍

Gcn is notorious for being snobby and caring not about the accessibility of cycling. Like hey look at us we’re white and have loads of money to spend let’s do nothing but review and feature the most pricy equipment. I take all their videos with a grain of salt
A kit that advertises your company to its target audience should be cheaper as a result... not more expensive.

Ditching the massive tryhard TH-cam logos from early kits was a huge win, but I mourn the loss of GCN+ branding on the new one. RIP the best cycling streaming service
Where I really appreciate there is a cheaper option with the core range but in a world where cycling is going to the wall including our beloved GCN+ I think someone has really missed the feeling in the room about the pricing.
At over $600au, it’s one of the most expensive kits available. After a comment the other day saying Rapha has helped inflate kit prices, it’s interesting I can get a Rapha kit cheaper. Disappointing and looks like it will be even longer until I can afford a gcm kit.

Slightly unfortunate that Arkea’s block red scored last in the men’s hot or not pro-team 2024 colours! Don’t think it’s awful but not particularly inspiring.
That said I really like the colour of Manon’s road frame- think you may have missed a trick there!

Is it just me that feels it a little strange that if you complete the Rouvy challenge (which requires the use of a smart trainer) you win a smart trainer. I'd like to win a smart trainer, but not having one means I can't win one!

There's a couple of Strava challenges I've seen that are the same. Still entering every one that I can to win a smart trainer, given that most of them are 2-3 times the price I paid for my bike though!

I am sorry to say that I liked the previous GCN kit more. I also like broccoli so I may be a weird one. I hope they also release some long sleeved version for the summer for the UV conscious people.

New helmet ear covers have been proven to increase the number of "What"s
on the subject of the snapped shifter, I think the pictures were taken after the fact to demonstrate the broken shifter, hence the imprinted textures on the bar tape

true, the black kit is hard to see, too many cyclists getting hit by cars. Bright colours are the way to reduce that.
I love the look but not a price point I would consider.
Not that it matters to me since I am not part of the target group but I thought a skin suit (one piece) was the starting point for top quality aero.

It’s pretty, but priced for dentists. $800 USD for a full kit, think I’m ok for now.
There's a recent GCN TH-cam edition which is hoping for the price of bikes to lower. It refers to silly prices for top end bikes and that this has an impact on lower priced machines. £339.98 plus additional fees for a pair of shorts and a jersey is not exactly 'the clothing 'groupset of the people'.
Who the hell is AGU? hahaha jk....nah but seriously...never heard of them...Castelli had a nicer lycra pattern.

That Polartec Alpha stuff is REALLY good. I have an AGU jacket with it from the Wout van Aert collab (which obviously give me 50W extra). Not sure how many extra watts it gives when it‘s from the Dan Lloyd collection.

Well I always wanted a pair of GCN kit. I always thought it was and is way over PRICED. GCN makes videos on value for money all the time you should revisit those videos. And apply them as a business model.

Went for a 50KM ride in and around Victoria BC Canada in sub 0 temperature yesterday. Its easy to keep ones body, even hands warm but feet are a whole different story. It took 40 minutes in front of a blower heater and a hot shower to get the feelings back in my toes So go ahead and make fun of Canadians and our winter woes 😂😂
It looks alright prefer the castelli stuff though.

@17:55 the pics without the string are a before and after. A picture of the broken shifter was taken from the front before the string hack, then the string was taken off and a second pic from above was taken and you’re seeing the bar tape “bodged” by the string.

Those little mirrors are great! I have them on both mine, and my sons bikes. I uses them so much without realising, that when I am shopping, I look down and left through the trolley before I move over, and get surprised it's not there. I live in the US, so ride on the right, hence the look to the left.
As an American, thanks for explaining how to pronounce AGU correctly! It took me approximately 5 years to learn how to say "Schwalbe" 😂

Here's one for you GCN. The English term bodge, is often considered coming from the practice of using mortar under roof tiles before membranes to help secure them and stop driving rain and snow. If you have a 100 year old original roof you probably have a good bit of bodging. Also what I've been doing to mine the past few weeks.
Fixing your roof as good 'as new' and saving 10k, how about that for a hack vs 'bodge'. :p

10 to 1 that the "string" on the handlebar of the broken shifter hack is actually an elastic band used as a brake lock to let the gravel rider use a "Clikstand" when stopped. I have the same thing on all my bikes.

Dan, those Sprintech mirrors are fantastic. I bought one three years ago for use on my winter bike, thinking I'd just use it on that and not 'spoil' the look of my best bike. When spring came around, I couldn't conceive of riding without the mirror - great for assessing what's behind you without having to turn, particularly when looking to dodge potholes, as well as indicating and moving out to turn. I now have one fitted on each of my three road bikes.

Kit looks great and I would have loved to support your channel but I can't justify buying cycling clothes for 400€, there are Chinese brands like Darevie that sell premium cycling clothes for a FIFTH of that price with no addition shipping cost. Very unfortunate, but at least I can afford the socks 😅

GCN, thanks for the reply to my previous message about pricing...it may have been an idea to give the budget core kit a mention in the vid then. It was a definite push to the store...you can tell by the number of comments about the prices that they raised some eyebrows. I know you are obliged to promote the top end of the cycling world, but it would be worth remembering that only a small percentage of your audience are prepared to spend money on the top end brands...whether they have the money or not: people are evidently becoming more aware of ridiculous pricing in cycling, hence the number of companies struggling. It also will pay very well to listen to your audience :-)
Agreed. I highly doubt there are many pro riders watching. The channel content is definitely aimed more at the average amateur cyclist.
I think the string hack before/after is swapped where they took a picture after they got home and then took another after they took off the string showing the imprint.
I hope Si did actually get a kit this time 😄

I’m nostalgic every time I see the original kit in a clip.
I have followed you blokes for what seems like decades. Well, you have been around for over ten years, and still watch your older videos. My gripe is the expense of cycling kits, particularly yours, what the heck are you thinking? Who sets the price? I'd like a crack at them bean counters, jk. If these are Made in China, forget about it.

Si, the error you made was in conflating weight loss and health.
As far as losing weight, counting calories - though inexact - is the best method available for losing weight, because it’s proven in multiple studies that the primary thing that matters in weight loss is an overall calorie deficit. When it comes to weight loss, all calories are the same. A calorie is a calorie. Furthermore, counting calories carefully can serve as a great way to educate a person on proper portion size and create new eating habits.
When it comes to health, not all calories are the same. 1000 calories of, say, butter is not at all as healthy or nutritious as 1000 calories of veggies. Nutrient density is key when it comes to health.
Healthy weight loss, which is where these two spheres intersect, still requires a calorie deficit. Therefore, counting calories ingested versus calories burned is still useful. Ingesting nutrient dense foods that provide proper fuel for the activities undertaken simply makes it easier to maintain healthy eating habits and allows you to feel fuller for longer. In addition it modulates blood sugar and the body’s insulin response, preventing blood sugar spikes and subsequent crashes.
In short. If one wants to lose weight in a healthy way, they have to eat nutrient dense foods, track how many calories they are eating, estimate how many calories they are burning, and realize they are learning and creating new lifelong habits and lifestyle, not doing something temporarily.
