I just love your energy I’ve been looking up rum balls and so you showed up in my algorithm and I’m so happy that you did because I am now subscribe to your channel I just think there’s something so relatable about you and your smile is so friendly
I cannot tell you just how long I've been looking for the recipe for bakery rum truffles. Thank you so much for sharing yours. I cannot wait to make these🤗☺
We have been searching for a recipe for the second one you make. I’m half English and half German, I really thought rum balls were part of my English heritage, my wife was searching in all our English recipe books but to no avail, then my brother told me about your video and that it was part of our Northern German heritage! I can’t wait to make these! Klaus
I grew up in Australia but my mum was from Germany, as a kid growing up mum would always make rum balls for all the school fete's and they were always sold out with a line of "mum's" waiting....I never understood why so many people loved mum's rum balls but I'm sure it was to do with all the rum in there lol. Thank you for sharing as my mum passed away last year and cooking recipes that she would make brings me closer to her. My mum was born in Kamp-Lintfort in Germany.
Left mixture too long in fridge so it solidified. Had to beat to soften but it worked - thank goodness. Made a mess forming mixture but got there in the end. Yummy. Thank you for your great recipes and demonstrations. Please don’t stop.
Sehr gut!! My mom passed away a few years ago and my sister begged me to make it this year so I’m going to give it a try. she made it just like this best recipe ever!! Danka shon
I have watched so many videos looking for a recipe similar to the ones I get at a danish bakery. I’m so so happy I came across your video! These look amazing and I will be preparing them this weekend!! Thank you for sharing the lovely story about your mom❤️
Oh my goodness!!! Thank you...thank you!!! I LOVE Rum Balls!!! One of my favorite things, even as a child. My mother is European and she allowed us to have them for occasional treats...especially during the holidays! They are addicting! 😍 I didn’t have the recipe with the chocolate cake version though. Your recipes are delicious and bring back wonderful memories! The only change I made is I roll them in powdered sugar or cocoa powder. I’m one of the few people that don’t like sprinkles. I’m making some more for our Anniversary on New Years Eve!!🎉 Happy New Year to you and your family! ☃️
These look so good. I like to give my family and friends baked goods throughout the Christmas season and will definitely add these to my treat list this year. Thanks so much for another wonderful recipe. Vielen dank!!
Another Great video... Lol, Leftover cake? Ha ha ha ha, like you, no such thing. I do prefer over-proof Bacardi, but I seem to be the only one that notices. Those BIG Rum Balls are a favourite Christmas (& admittedly year round) Treat. I love treats, lol. Those Deutsche chocolate sprinkles mmm...it's all about quality ingredients, makes all the difference. I too use Orange juice or sometimes *extra* frozen orange juice concentrate, though it makes for a totally different flavor. I am still in hospital but thanks to your Chocolate Rumball video, I can now request someone make me the treat :-) . I do so enjoy your videos and recipes, thanks again.
Also as a child I remember Rum trees- the same mixture on a biscuit base shaped into a long triangle peak and dipped in chocolate- anyone else know these?
Anything leftover in your home? Lol! 🤣 I hardly believe it. Not with your culinary skills, Barbara!👍 Yes, as far as I can remember, your rum balls recipe was the kind I grew up having during the holidays!😃 Merry Christmas & a blessed new year. 🎄🙏🎉
I only was asking, because in your Gruenkohl video you mention that you could not get "Mettenden". But you also mention that you live in Housten/Texas. Well I googled German butcher in Texas and it came up with severall German butchers there. If you do get to one of them, a little advise, don't try to speak German as the German they speak is from 1830. So you would not understand a word. LOL
What part of Germany are you from? My late father was born and raised in Berlin but he did not do any baking along with (his mutti) my Oma and I am learning about baking goods from my ethnic tradition
You promised I was going to like Saturday’s recipe. Now I find out it’s rum balls, and I don’t consume alcohol. Maybe I could use a rum extract instead?
Hi Susan, Rum extract usually contains a small amount of alcohol, (I looked up "McCormick's Imitation Rum Extract" and it has 35% alcohol), so just make sure you use an alcohol-free version. You have reminded me, that because of medication I take, I too must now use the alcohol free versions that are available. Glad you brought it up. Have a good weekend Susan.
It would not surprise me Germans would have introduced the recipe to Brazil and then maybe just adapted it to the ingredients they had around them. There is a large German community in Brazil.
@@klimtkahlo yes, i live right at the center of this community.... it's a simple sweet from the 1940s made with just condensed milk, chocolate and butter and it's origin is pretty well known. Anyway... we had the ingredients long before germans and it's not like we didnt have booze, chocolate and sugar at the time that we would need to adapt the recipe. Anyway, the BR recipe is simpler and perfect for a Million ocasions from celebrations to a pick up after a Sad breakup lol

"We don't have leftover cake." Best statement about cake ever :)
Thank you 😊
You‘re welcome! 😊

These are addicting. Thank you!
I know!!! 😆
I haven’t seen these giant rum balls since I was a child! I am grateful to the TH-cam algorithm for guiding me to this recipe!
Your so soft spoken, hard to hear you many times, but very nice to listen too, very soothing voice, love your recipes. 😊 thanks
They both look fantastic. I will try them for Christmas this year.

Happy New Year to you and your family, too! Enjoy the treat 😁
I love both of them ! Vielen Dank für das Rezept
My Oma would make these and also with Kirschwasser.
Ja, das habe ich vergessen, obwohl ich es in Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte und dem Schnaps mmm verwende.
Run balls from the bakery in Denmark was also my favorites
These look so good. I like to give my family and friends baked goods throughout the Christmas season and will definitely add these to my treat list this year. Thanks so much for another wonderful recipe. Vielen dank!!
Sehr gern!
Beautifully done video.

Thanks for this it has been a while.
When I visit Bavaria,my niece brings the Granatschplitter with her when she comes to the Airport to pick me up..I always get 2😋😊😉
Great 👍 vlog
Would u show us how to make kouglhof pls
I will put Guglhupf on the list for next year. I have already started the Christmas baking videos for this year.
Another Great video...

I didn‘t know you‘re in the hospital 😲 I hope you are ok and get well, soon!!!

My German mother in law was strict about sweets too. But she still loves her spaghetti eis!!
Rumkugeln - was man mit fünfzig Pfennig so kaufen konnte! Danke für das Rezept...
Genau 😆
Yummy 👍
Can I make the “snowball” rum balls without that mixer? I want to make them for Father’s Day. My husband also grew up with these near Hamburg.
That should be possible. Great idea for father’s day … I’m still struggling with a gift for my husband 🤷♀️ So difficult!
@@MyGermanRecipes the rum balls worked out great and my husband loved them!
Is it possible to make marzipan rum balls?
I guess. Look up my video about how to make marzipan and instead of rosewater use some rum. That should work.
Our bakery would coat the rum balls with a thin layer of marzipan and then cover with dark chocolate..decadent and so delicious
What's the best cake to add please guys 👦 😋
Chocolate cake like a chocolate bundt cake.
Merry Christmas to you, too! 🎄
Do you visit the German shops in Texas?
No, I make most things myself. I don‘t have a German shop near me but our grocery carries some German items like our favorite chocolate.
I only was asking, because in your Gruenkohl video you mention that you could not get "Mettenden". But you also mention that you live in Housten/Texas. 😂
How much rum did you use?
Please check the recipe on the blog www.mygerman.recipes for those details. The link is in and below the video.
What brand of chocolate do you like to use for these?
Lindt Chocolate 70% is best.
Could you use semi sweet chocolate instead of mixing milk and dark chocolate?
I think so but I've never tried it. It's best if the chocolate is not too soft and I think that would be the benefit of the dark chocolate.
What part of Germany are you from? My late father was born and raised in Berlin but he did not do any baking along with (his mutti) my Oma and I am learning about baking goods from my ethnic tradition
I'm from Hamburg.
Hallo, ich glaube, das mache ich nach. 🥃🥃🥃
Why did you leave Germany to live in Texas?! I live in Texas but I would looooove to live in Germany!
I love Germany, too, but my husbands job happens to be here and I also enjoy the warm climate in Texas ;-)
You promised I was going to like Saturday’s recipe. Now I find out it’s rum balls, and I don’t consume alcohol. Maybe I could use a rum extract instead?
Exactly, you can use rum extract instead!

We called the larger balls ' Trueffel'.. I'm making those.
Visually it's just like "Brigadeiro" from Brazil but the recipes are completely different.
It would not surprise me Germans would have introduced the recipe to Brazil and then maybe just adapted it to the ingredients they had around them. There is a large German community in Brazil.

We called the Granatschplitter

I have worked in a bakery in Germany, I know what's in them and would never buy them, sorry. but I will make your 2nd version
