    I grew up with a hoarder, so I watch videos like to to learn what a normal house looks like. I'm slowly getting my life and house clean and organize. Thank you for videos like this, it's still weird for me to see how people live that's not in a hoard.

    Plants on the window ledge would be nice & a rug in that area.

  • @Chickennuggethead
    @Chickennuggethead 4 ปีที่แล้ว +275

    I’d put a cushion on that shelf if it’s wide enough, like a window seat. Then a rug and ottoman would leave access to the dormers but look nice!

      Exactly what I was thinking. Also adding some plants to the area to brighten it up and add life.

    Great job !!!!! It looks amazing : ) I totally think you should put two small chairs in that nook that you can easily slide out when you need to access the dormers. I think it would be such a lovely place to read : )

    • @brandigreer8244
      @brandigreer8244 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jade Conran I totally agree!!! The chairs would be super easy to just slide away from the access door and slide back when done. Would be an amazing reading space. And would use the bottom shelving for books 😃🤗

    • @kimbo3468

      I was thinking the same or even put the chairs out a little facing toward the window to create a little reading nook put cushions on the window seal or pillows and a few books underneath

  • @TriciaYoung17
    @TriciaYoung17 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    I love the empty-ish look. But you could definitely warm things up by styling those window shelves a bit. And maybe some textiles like a rug, curtains, pillows or a cushion over in that area.

    Cluttered space = cluttered soul. I find it so liberating to let go of stuff but not so much to make an area feel empty or sterile, but comfy & serene. You're doing a great job!

    I have 3 kids and before I had my little girl in September I had decluttered everything in my house. Every drawer, closet, and room was organized and everything had a place. Now I am doing it all over again. It is crazy how much piles up in such a short amount of time.

    2 sitting chairs with wheels in front of the little doors would be great! You can add small wheels to the feet of the chairs then if you need to accessbthe closet you can easily roll them out and back!👍 A curtain in front of the window with the plant would be so pretty and cozy also.
    I love you and am so blessed by your videos. Thank you for your encouragement I feel like you and I am inspired, cleaning out our house also and I agree, clutter depresses me. I homeschool and have 5 kids and it is so hard.
    Praise God for your joyful spirit and encouragement!!!

    Can you fill that nook shelf with houseplants and put a moveable chair there and maybe an essential oil diffuser, and make a pleasant place to sit and read and get vitamin D? That shelf by the window would be perfect for plants!

    Honestly filling up empty spaces like that nook with chairs would just give ME the opportunity to pile things on it and make more of a mess! If you don’t find a need for it maybe it’s just better empty!

    I’m with you! I’ve taken this up for the last three years 🙌🏼 best thing I’ve done for myself and family. Living decluttered adds value to your days! Less “inventory” to be responsible for, think about and arrange. More time doing what you need to and want to do... adds so much value to life!!

  • @kkatmom

    Your room looks amazing!
    I’m still in the midst of my room. My bedroom is a place where I sleep, but it’s a whole lot more. It’s my craft room, my living room...
    I live with my daughter, son in law, two grandchildren and many pets. So my bedroom plays multiple roles. The last two days have been spent rearranging furniture, hanging decor and organizing, there is still much more organizing to do. The way I’ve rearranged the room has given me two “spaces “, one where I sleep and the other is everything else!
    I’m so exhausted but more excited to see my life become less hectic and chaotic, now that I’m doing this!
    Thank you for this series! It’s given me the push I so needed!
    Donna

      Leaving it empty for a little bit and then looking at decorating is a good idea. I found after becoming minimal myself I found I could leave a wall without an art piece which was HUGE for me but less is more peaceful. Just let it settle in. Way to go!! 😀👍

    I had some exercise things lying on the floor against one wall in my bedroom. After I put it away in a different part of the house, I felt uncomfortable with the emptiness of that space. Every time I walked past it, it just felt wrong. Then I went on a trip and stayed in a hotel, which (of course) has absolutely no clutter. When I got home, I was over the uncomfortable feeling. Don't fill up your empty spaces with something right away. Go spend some time in a completely clutter-free space first. Then see if that changes how you feel. I think your room looks fantastic! 💖

    very nice declutter and you're so sympathetic, relaxing and fun to watch !☺️ and about your least favourite corner of the room, I'd make it into a reading nook, just put cushions or a single pad on it to make it a bench and hanging shelves above the storage doors. a plant in the corner, blanket into the lower shelves and boom it's a lovely place. I'd loooove to have such a big window sill.

    I've been on my declutter journey for about 2 years now. In the beginning I thought I would just declutter every area of my home and be done with it. As time has passed, though, I've found that it's more of a lifestyle than a one time thing. You really have to stay conscious of what you're bringing into your home, and continue to evaluate and purge the things you do not need to keep. It makes a HUGE difference in managing a household, and being able to stay on top of things. And it has reduced my anxiety a ton. Your room looks great! Looking forward to more of this content!

    You are doing great with simplifying! I wanted to mention something that helped me. Many years ago, I decided that a goal was for my family to each be able to be responsible for their own laundry. So, we all have our own basket for dirty clothes and at age 10 each of my kids learned to wash, dry, fold and put away their own clothes. Obviously, it was a little process of doing each step with them for awhile, but by age 10 they each got it. They enjoyed using a shirt folding thing at first, but now do not need it. They see when their basket is 3/4 to all the way full, it is time for them to do laundry. Thanks for the great inspiration videos!

    Thanks for being soooo transparent!! I did the KonMarie whole house declutter 2 years ago and it had changed my life and my relation to stuff! It took me 6 months. I now discard things more quickly and have learned how to deal with clutter! And trying to teach my kids also. . . We just moved and I have been feeling like I need to do the whole house again in this new space. So I will be following along! Take moments to rest. Don’t rush it. Tackle the hard stuff last (it may be out of order).

    I’ve been wanting to declutter my house for a little while now but the thought of “where do I start” just stopped me in my tracks because I was so lost and truly gave me anxiety just thinking about it. I started watching you do it and it made such a big difference for me to see you go through your things and just go after it! I’ve started to declutter and it’s like you said in this video it’s like a weight lifted off my shoulders! Thank you ❤️

    Great space for books and reading with kids under window.

    I'd put a cushion on top of the window area for a window seat. Also, you could take the middle row on each section out and make it into drawer for storage. And add some pictures and greenary.

    Looks so fresh. And made me give a big deep breath of refreshment! Love your giant mirror! I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect one. It’s so hard. Also, I think if you put a few plants by the window but a small couch would be super sweet! I know you need to access the storage. You can, if the small couch/loveseat would slide forward. Unless you need to be in them often. If not, that’s an idea😊

    I would put a couple of chairs in the sitting area for reading. Throw blanket. Lamp. Few books. Some plants on the shelf. Make it a cozy little nook. Just move the chair to access storage.

    I have been on a decluttering/minimalism journey for about 4 years and many of our spaces are in pretty good shape. But I find it's a continual process to maintain a declutterd home - especially in a tiny one like our's with our 6 (soon to be 7 people in it, lol). So I am going bact to basics and joining you in a 'deep declutter' again. Excited and inspired by your video. Also, proud of you on the jewlery declutter...that can be so tough to pair down so much!
