Thank you for producing a wonderfully detailed and informative review of this oven 👏🏻 . I especially enjoyed how it is a ‘long term’ review, with legitimate pros and cons 🙏🏻 . I was on the fence before about buying it, but now I’m essentially sold 😂 (three cakes in one bake session? Goodness. That alone makes it worth it). I also very much appreciate the cleaning steps at the end, something I wish more TH-camrs would include.
Thank you so much for your kind words! I'm glad this video was helpful for you, especially the cleaning :) And yes, haha! I knew this oven was worth it as soon as I took out that first batch of cakes! SO good for baking on hot summer days ☀️
"I appreciate you choosing this video over or in addition to others, and I wanna do my best to respect your time". That alone deserves a like and subscribe 🔔
I was an electrician for many years and 1800 watts is pushing it for anyone with 15amp circuits in older homes. I think pre-1960 home kitchens are 15amp. Newer homes have 20amp circuits which is plenty as long as other things aren’t running at the same time. Even 20amp could trip if your microwave or mixer was used while this oven is in full use. These days they have much more sensitive gfci breakers required on everything, and they can trip just by turning things on. I enjoyed your video and I just ordered my new power hungry everything oven today!
Thank you! At this point, I think it must have been a sensitive GFCI breaker because our kitchen has two 20-amp circuits. It still hasn't happened since, and that oven is the only thing that gets to stay plugged in on the counter out of sheer convenience. Hope you enjoy your power-hungry oven! That made me laugh lol
Do you think using this power hungry oven could benefit from plugging into a larger residential UPS for people that may be in a situation where this could be an issue? Would it help in a case with RV applications? I have a power hungry brother printer (DCP-7065N) that I have plugged into a Cyberpower 1500 VA AVR and it makes the UPS beep and lights flicker every time the printer prints. I am not sure how many amp service is in the room where this is located but I am running other devices (computer with 850W power supply) on the same circuit along with other devices as well. Not sure if the UPS helps with the printer issue, but it never has tripped the breaker and the printer functions fine.
Thank you so much! I would LOVE to post more frequently, though I only have so many hours in a day when doing everything myself. Hopefully in the future! :)
I have had this oven for 5 1/2 years and I have never had any problem with it. I find it to be the best appliance I have ever purchased. I use it everyday for something. It heats up quickly and I have 2 ovens when I am cooking for a lot of people. I highly recommend this oven.I have lived 3 places with this oven and I have not had any electrical issues as she has stated.
Most definitely the best objective review in every category I've ever watched. You are superb at this. If i were the manufacturer of kitchen appliances, I would hold you in fear and awe.
King Arthur baking has a nice sale on these now. Thanks for taking time to do the update. I had a Breville regular oven for a long while. It quit working after many years of good service so time to replace.
One week with this combo oven, and so far I love it. Air fried, baked, warmed and broiled so far, everything came out great. I’m excited to try the proof for dough this weekend. I can see this will be my primary oven. July 2024.
thank you for your honesty.....i really appreciate your videos...I have an old house and have to be careful which plug in appliance I am using.....I know know the Breville is not for me....thank you so much
Looks like a good one. I owned a Breville 800XL for 8 years and loved it. I would probably still be using to this day if it wasn't for an ice storm that caused power brown outs that ended up frying the unit. They are well worth the money. Just be sure to unplug them along with all other appliances when storms are moving through.
Thanks for review. I didn’t even know where to install the drum tray until I saw you speak of cleaning it and saw that it was on bottom. I was trying to figure out how to get it in the oven on bottom. DUH😮
Thank you for responding. I didn’t even the start up procedure per booklet. But playing around with it my fan motor blade hits on something on convection setting. I’ve heard it hit then stop and run properly but speed of fan seems to effect problem. Have you noticed same? I’ll prob have to contact Breville warranty I know.
I've had one for three years now and love it. Since it's just me or a friend or two, I never use my large, deluxe oven except for family holiday stuff. You opened my eyes to other functions and intend to use the air fryer function with a pan underneath the air pan. I wasn't aware of the slow cooker and will try that too. Nice job.
My old toaster oven recently stopped working. I wanted to replace it with a new oven which is easy to use. I am not much of a cook, so I need all the help I can get. I loved your video. It is extremely helpful. I will be looking for more videos which will help me use my new oven to make easy and delicious meals.
Wow. A very thoughtful and thorough review of an appliance that I love! Mine has worked flawlessly for almost two years. I always need an extra oven for hosting Thanksgiving and this one is a life saver. All of your pros and cons are spot on. I have never had it trip a breaker though. We use the “Warm” function to warm plates for things like eggs and fish. It makes a huge difference on how long those meals stay hot while one is eating them. No one likes cold fish or eggs! The top gets very warm. It helps keep dishes warm while cooking another dish in the oven. The air fry function works well but does smoke and get the oven very dirty and splattered. Thank you for the cleaning video. Another great thing is it is portable. I have taken mine to cook in the garage when I didn’t want to cook inside the house due to extreme heat and have brought it to my in laws for a big family dinner. If I was an everyday toast eater, I would get a separate toaster for sure due to the long time it takes to toast, but we are occasional toast people so no issues. Great oven. And I have no idea why I watched a review and commented when I already own one and am very pleased with it. 😅
I'm so glad to hear you've had a similar experience with your Breville oven. I hadn't thought about using the warm function for plates; that's genius! Thanks so much for watching-even though you already have one hahaha ;)
Just unboxed, running setup now. The first thing I noticed is the incredibly small text on the screen. The slice #, amount are ok but any other info, buy a magnifying glass ! Also buttons seem cheap for price. We'll see if this is a keeper. Love your thorough review, thanks.
You convinced me and I did order it from your link, I hope it helps. My beloved old Kitchen Aid finally pooped out after 15 years, so I'm excited about upgrading.
I just stumbled across your channel, because I’m looking to buy an air fryer.. you are so informed and thorough and you’re a natural behind a camera you should be on TV seriously.. I really believe you’re gonna get a call to do some commercials.. AnyWho I subbed to your channel because in the future I am looking for a range stove and refrigerator.. I certainly will refer to you.. Bless your heart and thank you
Wow, what a glowing review! Thank you so much for your kind words; they mean a lot to me! Just in case I don't make a video on my stove and fridge soon enough before you need to upgrade, here's a quick rundown of what I have just to give you some ideas: My gas stove is from GE (model number JGB735SPSS), and I have no complaints with it! Really convenient having the center griddle and convection bake setting. We went through a few GE fridges trying to get a good one. We started with GNE27JYMFS, but the internal water dispenser was not great (hard to press, slow to dispense, and required the fridge door open the whole time) and the ice tray took up a quarter of the usable freezer space (which we probably should have realized in advance, but Costco has a GREAT return policy for appliances that it didn't matter. I felt kinda bad returning such a large/expensive item, but they were happy to take it when they learned it just wasn't for us). Then we upgraded to the GFE28GYNFS, which had a better water dispenser and ice location but was SO loud that there must have been a faulty motor somewhere. Returned that one and upgraded once more to the GE Profile (PVD28BYNFS) and LOVED that one, but the delivery guys dented it in multiple places during install 😅 Costco replaced it in about a month, and I still really love it about 18 months later-after GE sent out a repairman to diagnose why it wasn't making ice, of course lol. Super bright and roomy (enough to fit 200 cupcakes at a time!), and the autofill feature is great for filling up large drinking glasses :)
I use the toast function and have great success. I also use an Appliance Surge Protector that protects both the wiring and the appliance. For the condensation I just use a thin knife and that prevents the moisture.
Thank you so much for this review! I'm just about to hit the BUY button on one of these. Correction: I have just hit the buy button and my oven should be here tomorrow. Thanks again!
Wonderful thorough review! I bought this oven before I came across your review or else I would’ve used your affiliate link. One suggestion since I’m a cleaning pro is to not use windex on the inside glass of the oven due to chemicals like ammonia heating when you bake. Use hot soapy water and the results are even better than using windex 😊 take care!
Well, thank you anyway-I appreciate the sentiment! And great tip, thanks for sharing! I use an ammonia-free cleaner from Method for exactly that reason :)
Thank you for such a good review hitting the points and features that are relevant to the user. I purchased this oven as a result of this efficient and informative review 👍🏻
@@FloralApronBlog thanks for the taking the time to make it! My regular oven has two settings; undercooked and burned. After years of messing with it I'm done using it. This review answered all my questions 👍🏻
Great informative video. Like the long term perspective and details on pros/cons. Convinced me to purchase and I purposefully used your affiliate link!
Thanks for the video. And for the video structure. Your cons list was enough to steer me away from this one. Too messy and we do use the toaster feature a lot. This was hopefully going to replace our existing toaster oven for a toaster oven / air fryer combo, but I don't think it will be the best for that based on what you're saying. We use the toast feature a lot for various things. Think we'll just keep that where it is and get a traditional air fryer for wings and other "fryer-y" stuff. But thanks for the video, this was really helpful and nobody else talked about these things with this model.
I'm glad I could help! I think a two-appliance system would be a good fit for you based on what you described, so I hope you can find something that works for you :)
Excellent review. Thanks. I have the Breville toaster oven (no air fryer which I'm looking to add) and it also takes forever to toast. For-freaking-Ever!
Fantastic job on the review! Having owned the older version of this oven for 12 years, can I just say, "thank you" for mentioning the ridiculousness of the "toaster" part of the toast oven. Its mind numbingly bad and slow. Other than that, the oven is AMAZING and still going strong btw. Its so amazing in fact, I'm following your affiliate link to buy a second (bigger) one while its on sale. For anyone reading this, and considering it, I can tell you I rarely use my big oven anymore. If you have a large family, that might be a different story but even so, its great to have at least two ovens.
One work around for the condensation dripping on the counter top is to slide a thin cutting sheet under the front feet of the oven. The condensation will drip onto the sheet, which can be easily removed by lifting the front feet of the oven and sliding the sheet out.
Thanks for sharing! That sounds like a workable solution for smaller amounts of condensation during normal use if people don't want to keep wiping down their counters :) For use during the dehydration function, I'd recommend something in a similar vein but with a lip or rim, like a large baking sheet. In my experience, the water will slosh around and spill off a flat surface, like a cutting sheet, when pulling it out (especially if you're going at it one-handed while trying to lift up the oven!).
Thank you for this wonderful and very informative video. I actually just ordered the Casori air fryer toaster oven equivalent to this....I have cancelled my order. Thanks for saving me the hassle.
I've been using mine for about 4 months. If I want cheese toast, I'll use it but regular toast=toaster. I mainly use mine to bake casseroles which is does very well. I've never had any problems with popping a breaker. I have found that kitchen outlets will handle 20 amps, which means only one electrical appliance in use on that particular circuit. My kitchen has 2 20 amp circuits. Mine heats up a lot quicker that my gas stove and doesn't heat up the house, nor do I have to deal with the exhaust. No building code requiring stove venting to outside. Wish it did!. I have been very happy with mine. What's great is that I have 2 ovens in my house during holidays, and both will handle a 9x13 baking dish.
Thank you so much for this review. I'm currently in the research period for a combo Micro/Air Fryer and after watching your review It looks like this may be my choice. Thank you for being honest with the pros and cons. Very helpful information.
Wow now that was one very detailed review 👍👍. I have been looking at this oven hoping to see it on sale during the holidays if not ill probably still buy one.
Yay, I'm glad it was helpful for you! We bought ours at Black Friday last year for about 30% off MSRP, and they had the same sale at Easter this year. Hope you're able to get a good deal on yours :)
I got mine at TJ Maxx for 249.00 they only had 2, I originally bought the mini oven and realized it was too small, went back the very next day, luckily thru had 1 left
Wow, thank you for your candid reviews(issues) nobody else on TH-camr talked about. Even my cheap 10hr old toaster oven doesn’t have condensation issue, fan noise after being off, 8 min of toasting bread slices…etc
I wanted to give it a fair assessment, so I'm glad you found it helpful! I think the issues are a small price to pay for the sheer convenience it lends me, but I want everyone to be able to make their own informed decision for their kitchens :)
Really helpful, and thanks so much for making this so precise and time thoughtful. It’s the wattage I am concerned of and need to look into (thanks to the electricians comment too). If I can buy, I will use your link. Glad I found your video, thanks again.
I am going to try pulling the crumb tray out a little when dehydrating to see if it catches the condensate. I bought this to rest my brisket. I am also interested whether I will be able to clean that smell out. Great when it's brisket but probably not great when baking cookies 😅
I think you're onto something there!! I saw your comment right before I started reheating pizza last night, so I pulled the crumb tray out a bit and saw steam escaping from underneath rather than collecting on the glass! That was a great fix! I am also curious about the smell haha 😅 I will say, I've baked fish in there and left the door closed overnight. When I open the door to toast my bagel the next morning, it still smells like fish, but it doesn't transfer to the bagel (thank goodness haha). Maybe your brisket will be similar :)
I have two Breville ovens for the last 5 years. One in Delaware, and one in our Florida home. I can say these ovens have been used quite a bit and not once did either one ever trip a breakers.
Wow! A wonderful review. What about lining the crumb tray with foil for faster clean up? Also, there is residue on what I'm guessing are the heating elements on the bottom. Can those be cleaned? Thank you.
Thanks so much! The manual specifically says not to line the crumb tray with metal foil, as it will cause overheating. I've heard of some people lining the crumb tray with a silicone mat for easier cleanup, though I haven't tried it myself. The metal guards protecting the heating elements can be cleaned somewhat, but it takes a lot of scrubbing if there's a lot of residue. Any residue on the actual heating elements burns off with the next bake, but residue tends to stay on the metal protectors for quite a few cycles. The manual says to "use extreme caution" when cleaning the quartz heating elements, so I haven't tried to clean those quite as thoroughly as the rest of the oven ;)
I have the same oven, and it's never tripped the breaker. I agree about the toast function, and I have a toaster next to the oven, but the oven is good for toasting garlic bread. I use the air fry function for grilled cheese sandwiches and turn the sandwiches over after 3 minutes. I've never noticed any drips on the counter so had to go look. Nope, not there,, but I already had a dedicated dehydrator I use, so I've never tried it as a dehydrator. I've baked cakes that turned out fine, but the last time I baked a sheet cake, it started getting too brown, and I had to turn the heat down. I suspect it was on "Super Convection," and I should have turned that off. I still love the oven and use it daily. I rarely use my large oven.
Laughing out loud so hard because I am a total box saver too- just bought this smart oven and I saved all the bags and cardboard and foam and of course box😂🥰😂
Wow! Very informative about the oven! I have the same one as yours. I am so glad to stumble across your channel. My temperature setting is not a true temperature. It also takes a long time to reach the temperature to the desired temp. I called them and they were not very helpful. Does yours have these issues?
Hi, thanks so much for watching and sorry to hear that! I wouldn't say mine takes a "long" time to reach the desired temp, but it does take longer than it says it will to preheat. The manual states that when the oven beeps to notify you that it's preheated, it's only at 75% of the temperature listed on the screen! That makes a bit of a difference with finicky recipes like macarons but not with much else. If I know I'm going to be baking something sensitive, I let it continue heating up 5-10 minutes longer before adding my trays, and that seems to work well for me. I know people who have older ovens that compensate for their oven manually by raising the temp 25°F if they know it regularly runs 25°F cold, but there should be some sort of calibration you (or Breville, if you sent in the unit) could do if it came to that!
I,too, have to raise 25 degrees more to get what temperature I need. Thank you ❤️ for taking your time to reply me in details. I really enjoy your videos and looking forward to seeing more of your videos!
First thing that i tested was toast. If it couldn't do fairly even browning (top, as the bottom you have grates so I expected not as uniform), I would've gotten a replacement. Thankfully mine had been spot on for the last 3 years.
There's sometimes dud in large scale manufacturing. I test initially and semi regularly with the toast test, mine thankfully is still spot on. So the unit is capable, if you're buying new don't hesitate to exchange if the initial toast test results aren't to your liking.
Thank you for your thorough video! I had this oven in my previous place and I used it daily for almost all meals. I liked it a lot so I am considering getting it again. I have experienced some of the drawbacks you mentioned. The steam problem was worse for me. I not only got the little drips, but also the LCD display would fog up making it harder to read most of the time. Cleaning the interior was a nightmare but that was probably mostly my fault for not attacking things immediately. But there are some parts on the interior that are not non-stick and very hard to clean. Overall though, it did everything I asked. I wonder though if there are maybe better ones out there now.
Oh, interesting about the display fogging up for you! I wonder if the humidity where you live plays a role in that-some commenters have said they haven't noticed any condensation at all, and that's the only thing I can think of. Perhaps your new place would make a difference in that. The Breville ovens are all very highly ranked on Consumer Reports-of the top 10 spots in the category, Breville fills 7 of them. I'm sure there are some other good brands out there, though, if you want to keep looking :)
@@FloralApronBlog Oh wow, I didn't expect a reply, let alone so fast! That's an interesting idea you have about the fogging... I bet humidity had something to do with it. I did have a dehumidifier at the time though. I even replaced the original Breville unit because I thought it was defective. But the 2nd one did it too. It's great to know that this didn't happen to you!
So thankful I found this and I subscribed because I loved your upfront honesty. Thank you so much. I want a Dual but not sure what to get yet. How is it for Dehydrating things?
Hi! I haven't heard of the Dual, so I'm not quite sure how it compares. This Breville works pretty well for dehydrating, though I haven't used that function quite as much as the others and haven't used a stand-alone dehydrator to directly compare it to. I think the biggest thing you'll have to factor in is purchasing extra air fry/dehydrating baskets to really maximize the function, and then make sure you have the storage space for them :)
The majority of the air is pushed out a vent on the right side, but the manual recommends leaving at least 6" of open space on either side of the oven for circulation. The top of the oven and my cabinets above it get pretty warm when in use, but the sides remain fairly cool. (Warmer than ambient room temperature, but not so warm that I'd worry about it melting a plastic bowl or something on the counter.)
I use a pizza screen for frozen pizzas. Need to go with the shorter time listed on the packaging. In a full-size oven, I need to go with the longer time + a couple of extra minutes. With the Breville, I add extra toppings about halfway through.
I just Googled it and found this from Breville customer service: "All Breville® products are food safe and compliant with all applicable product safety regulations and requirements. The interior of the oven is PFOA free but not PTFE free. As well, the BOV900 does not reach temperatures over 600°F."
Thank you! I am a recipe developer that focuses largely on desserts (if you couldn't already tell haha). That's what I focused on for this video, as I'd be able to give the most honest feedback there. I've found that if an oven can bake cakes and macarons well, it will absolutely bake less fussy foods like chicken and starches with no issues, though I probably could have detailed that a little more in the video :) That said, I've used this to bake my Cajun tortilla chip-crusted tilapia recipe countless times, and it works really well for that! Unfortunately, outside of crispy chicken parmesan once in a blue moon, I don't do much baking of my chicken or beef. (Though judging by a few comments on this video, a lot of people use it for air frying chicken wings, so perhaps you'll be able to find another video showing that lol!) Thanks again for watching!
The Breville is CONSISTENTLY Top Rated on pretty much every online Review / Top list. I just wish that they were Smaller for Very Small kitchen spaces … I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
@@Mariaruiz-jq1us I just got the mini. It's funny that they call it that because it's actually the size of a toaster oven. And it's still quite a bit larger than my Nana's ancient one. The Breville is no longer but it is deeper. Nana's can toast 2 slices of bread at a time and the Breville can toast 4. I just wanted it for toast, tuna melts, side dishes, and frozen things that say "for best results bake in oven" but I'm not preheating my oven for pizza bagels. So for me this is perfect.
The racks are stainless steel. I have on-screen at the end of the video during the cleaning that the interior has a nonstick coating to make cleaning easier. You can read Breville's chemicals disclosure on their website: www.breville.com/us/en/learn-more/brevillecookwarechemicalsdisclosure.html
Jelly roll pans are about 15" x 10". These are the exact ones I use: amzn.to/4etRmmN If you want to see all the accessories I mentioned in the video and their details, you can find them on my Amazon Storefront: www.amazon.com/shop/floralapronblog/list/27ZRE6OUG74YY?ref_=aip_sf_list_spv_ofs_mixed_d :)
@@FloralApronBlog yeah they seem rather popular I see. I've got this huge 10 ft island with same counter top opposite my sink. oven etc...sadly thats the only thing big in the new apt. I call the living room, and walk thru closet cubby hole size. Compared to my old apt where I had a small den. But the appliances and countertop werent as luxurious. And I heard every flush, every dog noise, and even the vacuum cleaner above me. Here the soundproofing is wonderful.
Great video ! I have this oven for 2.5 years now and love it! Use it all the time . I just noticed recently that the top front heating element only lights up on the two sides and the middle one not at all. Would you mind tell me if all of them lights up in your oven ? Thank you
Thank you! I just put mine through a few settings, and it looks like my heating elements light up the entire way IF they are going to light up. Some settings (like broil) only used the outer two quartz elements on the top. Hope that helps!
@@FloralApronBlog Thank you for your answer. May I ask you to try 350F on baking. Should all of them lights up? I still have warranty on it until end of October. And I just noticed recently only the 2 on the sides lights up during baking. If it’s not to much to ask. Please and thank you 😊
I preheated my oven to 350°F, then baked something at 375°F for 20 mins and didn't see any of the elements light up (other than the actual light, of course). I wasn't watching it like a hawk the whole time, but I kept it in the corner of my eye. I'd recommend using an oven thermometer to see if your oven is getting to the right temperature. If it is, you shouldn't have anything to worry about!
@@FloralApronBlog thank you very much ! A really appreciate your answer and help ! I think I just got paranoid before the warranty expires. I baked a bread on 350F on the weekend . It didn’t light up but came out evenly baked. I will get that thermometer. Thank you again
Great review! Please update as my old faiithful Smart Pro door won't stay closed (spring?) and don't know if I should replace it or go with the AirFryer Pro? We use it at least twice a day and toast bread. Many thanks!
Hi! I have used this oven daily since getting it over a year and a half ago now (for what has to be over a thousand uses). I have no further complaints than I've already discussed in this video, so I have no plans to post an update. I just don't think I could really add much other than it's still around and working just as well! I still highly recommend it, and my mom even bought one because she loves mine so much haha :)
How do u clean the heating elements? Mine have some areas that need cleaning but the manual really doesn’t address this. Any ideas would be appreciated . I have had my Breville for 3 years & other than cleaning the elements, I love it.
I have found that the quartz heating elements themselves burn off any residue after a few bakes, so I don't bother cleaning those. I've wiped down the metal pieces protecting the quartz elements with a damp sponge in the past, but it's hard to scrub with the quartz in the way. And the only way to really get the residue off those is by scrubbing (of course lol), so I just leave it now. They also tend to burn off, but it takes longer than the quartz heating elements themselves. The metal pieces only get dirty if oil drips down onto them (in my experience, at least), so I try to keep the roasting pan in between them and the air fry basket when I use it, and that has helped somewhat. My manual says not to use soap on the elements but does not specify if that also applies to the metal protectors. I don't use soap just to be safe, but it definitely makes cleaning it more difficult!
Overall this is a great product. I'm trying to get familiar with this device, but found a few cons. What do you think about having to plug/unplug to turn the device on/off? No option to disable the preheat option? Having to open the door to pause cooking instead of having a dedicated button?
None of those things bother me personally, but we all have different preferences :) I don't mind having to unplug it to turn it completely off; as long as the heating element and fan aren't on, I consider that "off" in my book. I unplug it if we are going to be away from the house for more than a few days, but I use it so frequently during the day that the minor power draw (to keep the display on) is worth it for me. Could you explain why you'd want to disable the preheat option? Someone else mentioned that in another comment, so maybe I'm not understanding what it would mean to disable the preheat option. If I don't want to wait the 5-10 minutes for the oven to preheat, I just add my frozen meat/veggies/sides in as soon as I turn the oven on and remove 1-2 minutes from the timer. That has worked well for us so far. If you mean something different, let me know! I like that the timer automatically pauses when I open the door, since I think that makes for a more accurate bake time and accounts for a bit of the temperature difference from opening the door (especially if you're taking the time to switch trays). I can't think of a time where I've needed to pause baking but left the tray inside the oven, so a button wouldn't be helpful for me. Usually, I remove the tray from the oven to check on it, and keep it out if it's done or pop it back in if it's not. I'd love to know what you're baking that makes those last two options cons-sounds like I need to expand my horizons and see what I'm missing out on! :)
@@FloralApronBlog I think I’ve been conditioned to have an on/off button lol. I did notice the screen goes dim after non usage for a few minutes. Like you mentioned it’s a matter of preference for each person, but I’d prefer the display turned off. I personally don’t enjoy the dangling wire loose especially with kiddos around. Also, my wire doesn’t have the finger assist to easily unplug for some reason. Little jealous haha With the preheat function you found a work around what my initial concern was. I did not like waiting for the oven to heat up before putting the food inside. Currently the oven preheats and beeps when ready and then the timer would start a new countdown when it actually is cooking. Maybe it’s just a matter of me getting accustomed to how this specific oven works. One major pro is just how quiet this oven is. After using a few different functions I couldn’t believe how quiet it actually is. To the point where I almost forgot it was on.
I'm not totally sure on all the differences, since I wasn't interested in the wifi capabilities. You'd probably be able to get a more thorough answer comparing the two on Breville's website, but my understanding is that the Joule comes with an app and slightly different tech to allow you to run different functions back-to-back, which I think just prevents you from having to get up and manually rotate the dial yourself.
Just bought this oven, I'm not much of a cook but I expect to change that. I used to use a regular toaster oven which obviously didn't have preheat, if I put, say a frozen pizza in the Breville smart while preheating, should I take any time ofF the timer? Also, can the timer be turned off?
I sometimes take 1-2 minutes off for frozen breaded chicken if I put them in before it's preheated, but I haven't noticed much of a difference either way. You're definitely not at risk of burning the food if you don't! You could also try pressing the frozen foods button (the one with the snowflake). The manual for whatever reason doesn't exactly specify what it does, but I think it helps with that situation specifically. And no, you cannot run the oven without a timer going. As soon as the timer runs out, the oven stops heating the elements, so you'd have to add more time to run the oven after.
I appreciate the thorough review. I just can't find the ideal air fryer toaster oven combo. Every single one has at least one thing I don't like. In the case of the Breville it's the wider footprint (because they put the controls on the side instead of the top), and because it can't cook a good piece of toast in a reasonable amount of time.
I hear ya-the Breville's footprint is pretty big! I don't know that I would have willingly given up this much counter space in our old house lol Have you looked into Green Pan's Elite Convection Air Fry Oven (aff link-amzn.to/3PyMoLP)? It has the controls on the top with what looks to be a similar interior size, and while I haven't tried it myself, one of my friends likes hers. I'm hesitant about having the controls on the top because ovens tend to degrade faster when their control panels are repeatedly heated, though. My Breville gets pretty hot and heats up the cabinet above it a bit, and I can't imagine that being great for electrical components. I totally understand the need for a smaller footprint, and that design is a great way to save space; it just *may* result in a shorter lifespan. I would hope it's engineered properly so that isn't a huge issue, but again, I don't have one, so I couldn't tell you for sure. Just something to think about if you haven't already! Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :)
@@FloralApronBlog You make a good point.. I was looking at another oven with the controls at the top, and some people said the buttons gets so hot you can't touch them. So I can see how that would reduce the life of the oven. I think I am probably going to end up getting the Breville. It seems to have the least of the issues of the ones I've looked at so far. Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
Wonder if breaker tripping is a Breville issue, not just the toaster oven? I had the Breville Oracle Touch espresso machine and it kept tripping also, had to sell it. My home is not old, 2005. Nothing else trips the breaker.
It could be, but in my case, I think it would have happened at least once more if it truly was a defect with the Breville. I've used it over a thousand times since (not an exaggeration), and it hasn't done it again. But the whole point of me mentioning it in the video is so that you know in advance to make an informed choice, and I can totally understand not wanting to get another Breville if your espresso machine already trips the breaker!
The Breville still makes toast correctly; it just takes a long time to do so. Now that I've had the toaster oven for over a year, I've gotten used to the extra couple minutes it takes to get the toast to my desired toastiness and don't really notice it anymore. If you didn't see it, I share my trick for getting my ideal toast in the video at 3:27, and that has worked for me! There is not another product on the market (that I have researched) that has a similar interior size and nearly as many settings/functions with fast toasting, which is why I still recommend the Breville over the others despite the minor flaws. Others are good at toasting quickly, but they have hot spots that make baking a nightmare and don't have nearly as many functions (no proof, no dehydrate, no slow cook, etc). Like I say in the video, if *quick* toast is really important for you, I would recommend buying a separate toaster, then using the Breville for all other functions, as it is second to none in regards to even baking :)
I'm glad this video was helpful for you, especially the cleaning :)
And yes, haha! I knew this oven was worth it as soon as I took out that first batch of cakes! SO good for baking on hot summer days ☀️

Thank you so much!
Yup. I just did for that very reason.
I just bought this for our RV. Was that a bad idea? What can I do to use it in Rv since I’ve already bought it?
@cjsoutherland1 I have a friend who uses this in her RV with no issues. Depends on the RV!
@@elektrofrygenerally speaking you do not want to put a resistive load on a UPS
I'm fewer than three minutes in and am already convinced this is the most efficient review I've ever encountered. Very cool.

That's the goal! Thanks for watching :)
You should post more. You're very good at this.
Thank you so much! I would LOVE to post more frequently, though I only have so many hours in a day when doing everything myself. Hopefully in the future! :)
I have had the same exact Breville & love it!! The proof option is great for my baking goods.
Glad to hear it!
I'm glad to hear that; thanks for sharing! I also really love my Breville :)
Your video was perfection. So informative, concise and great production quality!
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful for you :)
Most definitely the best objective review in every category I've ever watched. You are superb at this. If i were the manufacturer of kitchen appliances, I would hold you in fear and awe.
Wow, thank you so much! 💛
King Arthur baking has a nice sale on these now. Thanks for taking time to do the update. I had a Breville regular oven for a long while. It quit working after many years of good service so time to replace.
Oh, I didn't realize King Arthur sold these! Hope you got a good deal :)
It has been so difficult finding the interior dimensions of the Breville. Your video helps a lot and now I can order my bakeware with ease.
Yay, so glad to hear that!
One week with this combo oven, and so far I love it. Air fried, baked, warmed and broiled so far, everything came out great. I’m excited to try the proof for dough this weekend. I can see this will be my primary oven. July 2024.
So glad to hear that!
thank you for your honesty.....i really appreciate your videos...I have an old house and have to be careful which plug in appliance I am using.....I know know the Breville is not for me....thank you so much
You're welcome! I'm glad I could be of help for ya :)
Sorry to hear about your previous Breville! Thanks for sharing your experience.
This is such an honest review of a product!! Thank you so very much!!
You're welcome!! 💛
@pistolerro427 dang, that's unfortunate. I haven't heard anything hit the fan in mine. Definitely worth an email to support!
Nice job.
So glad to hear that; thanks for sharing!
My old toaster oven recently stopped working. I wanted to replace it with a new oven which is easy to use. I am not much of a cook, so I need all the help I can get. I loved your video. It is extremely helpful. I will be looking for more videos which will help me use my new oven to make easy and delicious meals.
Thank you; I'm glad you found this video helpful!
All of the baked recipes on my website can be made in the Breville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro :)
Thanks so much! I hope yours works out for you despite the font size :)
You convinced me and I did order it from your link, I hope it helps. My beloved old Kitchen Aid finally pooped out after 15 years, so I'm excited about upgrading.

Glad to hear it's working out for you! What do you mean by using "a thin knife" for the condensation?
I am also curious about the thin knife, How it works?
I toast my toast on the air fry sheets and it definitely doesn't take 6 minutes. Maybe 2-3 minutes on the toast setting. Loved the review!
2-3 minutes?? Wanna trade? 🤪

I find that using soap n water with a magic eraser works great

@@FloralApronBlog thanks for the taking the time to make it! My regular oven has two settings; undercooked and burned. After years of messing with it I'm done using it. This review answered all my questions 👍🏻

Thank you so much for your kind words and purchasing the oven through my affiliate link! It means a lot :)

Oooh, thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much for your kind words and for purchasing another through my affiliate link! I really appreciate it 💛
Greatly appreciate you for making this in-depth video.
Thank you! I'm glad you found it helpful :)
One work around for the condensation dripping on the counter top is to slide a thin cutting sheet under the front feet of the oven. The condensation will drip onto the sheet, which can be easily removed by lifting the front feet of the oven and sliding the sheet out.
Thanks for sharing! That sounds like a workable solution for smaller amounts of condensation during normal use if people don't want to keep wiping down their counters :)
For use during the dehydration function, I'd recommend something in a similar vein but with a lip or rim, like a large baking sheet. In my experience, the water will slosh around and spill off a flat surface, like a cutting sheet, when pulling it out (especially if you're going at it one-handed while trying to lift up the oven!).
You are very good at doing reviews! Very clear, on point and practical
Thank you for this wonderful and very informative video. I actually just ordered the Casori air fryer toaster oven equivalent to this....I have cancelled my order. Thanks for saving me the hassle.

Great review. Your comments are a big help. Thank you.
I'm so glad it was helpful! Thanks for your feedback :)
Glad to hear you are enjoying yours! Thanks for sharing :)
I have never tripped a breaker with mine. I do love it.

I just bought one. Good to know. Thanks
You're welcome! Hope yours works out well for ya!

Bravo. Solid review!
Well done and very, very helpful. Good overview and analysis. Thank you for taking the time to put this out and for sharing your key insights.
Thank you so much! I'm glad it was helpful for you :)
Thanks for watching and sharing your experience! :)
Thank you for your review. Just used your link to purchase from Amazon! :)

Thank you!
That's great-happy to hear that!
Congrats on 1K!!!
Thank you!! 🎉🎉🎉
Fantastic review thank you ❤
Glad you found it helpful!
Great review, very thorough. 👍
Thank you! Glad it was helpful for you :)
Can you tell me where the fan vents are located? Where does the heat escape from? The back? Right? Left? Top?
Thanks for sharing!
Hi, great review! Do you know by any chance if the inside coating is ptfe/pfoa free?
I just Googled it and found this from Breville customer service: "All Breville® products are food safe and compliant with all applicable product safety regulations and requirements. The interior of the oven is PFOA free but not PTFE free. As well, the BOV900 does not reach temperatures over 600°F."
Good review. I would have liked to see how the product cooks fish, beef, chicken, etc.
Thank you! I am a recipe developer that focuses largely on desserts (if you couldn't already tell haha). That's what I focused on for this video, as I'd be able to give the most honest feedback there. I've found that if an oven can bake cakes and macarons well, it will absolutely bake less fussy foods like chicken and starches with no issues, though I probably could have detailed that a little more in the video :)
That said, I've used this to bake my Cajun tortilla chip-crusted tilapia recipe countless times, and it works really well for that! Unfortunately, outside of crispy chicken parmesan once in a blue moon, I don't do much baking of my chicken or beef. (Though judging by a few comments on this video, a lot of people use it for air frying chicken wings, so perhaps you'll be able to find another video showing that lol!)
Thanks again for watching!
The Breville is CONSISTENTLY Top Rated on pretty much every online Review / Top list. I just wish that they were Smaller for Very Small kitchen spaces … I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
I hear ya! It works great in my kitchen, but it can be difficult to give up so much counter space if you don't have a lot to start with :)
I have had 2 within the last 15 yrs have been very happy with it
Yay, glad to hear it!
If you have no use for the air fryer, the mini smart oven is only 16.5 in wide and does wonders
@@Mariaruiz-jq1us
I just got the mini.
Are the racks aluminum or stainless steel? Any nonstick, toxic materials?
The racks are stainless steel. I have on-screen at the end of the video during the cleaning that the interior has a nonstick coating to make cleaning easier.

Just brought one for our boat it’s great
Yay, glad to hear it!
It just dawned on me. In my new apt, We have exact same counter tops as you you do! :)
Oh, love that! I'm a big fan of them :)
?Hi. Can you please tell me what brand and size is your jelly roll pan? Thanks in advance.
Mine are from Nordic Ware: amzn.to/4etRmmN (affiliate)
The standard jelly roll pan size is 15" x 10" :)
Totally understand; glad I could be of help! :)
Thank you for your review.
Thank you! This really, really helped!
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful for you :)
Overall this is a great product. I'm trying to get familiar with this device, but found a few cons. What do you think about having to plug/unplug to turn the device on/off? No option to disable the preheat option? Having to open the door to pause cooking instead of having a dedicated button?
None of those things bother me personally, but we all have different preferences :)
I don't mind having to unplug it to turn it completely off; as long as the heating element and fan aren't on, I consider that "off" in my book.
Little jealous haha
With the preheat function you found a work around what my initial concern was.
What’s the difference between this one and the Joule?
I'm not totally sure on all the differences, since I wasn't interested in the wifi capabilities. You'd probably be able to get a more thorough answer comparing the two on Breville's website, but my understanding is that the Joule comes with an app and slightly different tech to allow you to run different functions back-to-back, which I think just prevents you from having to get up and manually rotate the dial yourself.
@@FloralApronBlogthank you!
Thank You. Awesome
You're welcome!
I don't know that I would have willingly given up this much counter space in our old house lol
Have you looked into Green Pan's Elite Convection Air Fry Oven (aff link-amzn.to/3PyMoLP)?
Good video. I’ve had 4-5 years. My selection dial quit working awhile ago. How I get it fixed. It works if I push it in
I don't have that problem so I don't know, but I'm sure there's a video on TH-cam with a fix, or you can contact Breville customer service :)
I love toast. What would you recommend that is as good as this one but actually does make toast correctly???
I concur. I love my Breville except for the very long time for toast, but I don't eat that much toast.
