I feel like Hank is a good judge of character. I've no doubt in my mind that he's leaving these companies in good hands. Also by the sounds of it they seem to have at least some of the vested interest that you feel they do. Focus on yourself Hank, you deserve that much.
I imagine LJ is having a fun time being a normal person who's in charge of a company whose products include Pizza John. She must feel like the straight man character in a workplace comedy.
I think I have only commented on a handful of videos, but it’s really amazing to see how far this community has come. I started watching in junior year of high school and now I am in my thirties, so it’s not an exaggeration to say I have grown up watching this channel and this community evolve. I remember watching you guys blend happy meals, John waxing his chin, fitting peeps into your mouth, John wanting an army of babies, and more funny things at the start and now you all have been through so much life change, as have I. I guess I wanted to leave a comment to say thank you. Thank you for telling 16 year old me that it was ok to be passionate even if caring about things made me a nerd, for teaching me a wide variety of things, and for oddly enough being one of the most constants in my life from my teens to my adulthood. ❤
I started watching when I was in middle school and now I’m in my mid twenties. I took a big break in there but coming back and seeing that they’re still doing good things is so nice
Just pausing in the middle of this to say, as someone who has worked for ambitious startups and nonprofits of all kind, the anxiety you’re describing is usually what causes founder’s syndrome-and I haven’t seen a single org with FS that didn’t eventually fail. One particularly bad case had the CEO and cofounder in my office (as a copywriter with an entire marketing leadership team ahead of me in the chain) daily, nitpicking first drafts and editing every single piece of content and copy with me personally. Again, this was daily. I’m so, so excited and happy to see you embrace the reality that others are going to make different choices than you would, and recognize that that’s *the point*. I hope to start my own NPO and you are repeatedly an inspiration to and blueprint for me. Also, nice mustache.
I was once an acting director to a department I literally helped create. A man was hired for the director position and I was given a Co-Senior position when before there was only one senior. I hope Julie gets the CEO position. She definitely has given heart and soul to the company. BTW, I left the company a year after. Even after the other co-senior changed departments, I was treated like a regular crew member... I had trained everyone at that point Including the director, who looked down on me all the time. Give Julie the deserved flowers.
People tend to falsely equate your current input with your value. Doesn’t matter how long you’ve been a workaholic or how much you’ve sacrificed in the past, they’re too self absorbed to see anything that isn’t right in front of them. I’m glad to hear that you left for someplace that sees your value. Life is too short. And please don’t let anyone convince you that you haven’t earned every bit of that respect.
Hank I appreciate you ability to see that while you were doing great work as CEO, you could allow others to take over and it wouldn’t be a bad thing. My dad did the opposite when he got cancer, he never stopped working and never allowed someone to take over the company before it was too late. He was a great businessman, but also a huge bottleneck and it made life without him so much harder. I’m sure Katherine and Orin will be eternally grateful that you took this journey now and not later.
I think you and John both TOTALLY realize and totally DON'T realize how charismatic and full of 'people want to be around you' vibes you two are! And it's endearing. I'm glad you're able to make these decisions and that you already had the CEO interviews going before things Got Real! Thanks for being you, literally. ((edit: REAL ENGINGEERING! I am delighted))
Thank you Hank! I love that you put this public face to cancer. Little channel creators like me get flack for “not looking sick”. I so appreciate you! Keep healing!
I always appreciate it when Hank pulls back the curtain a bit and is open about his challenges and limitations. It makes all of the interesting things he does look much more achievable... in another word, it's inspiring :)
I applied to work for DFTBA. I lost my job and have been volunteering at a school ... And it feels good. I definitely understand having your identity tied up in your work. But you're still Hank with a great hankstache. Thank you for everything you gave us
My son and I were talking about the business philosophy that says that the most important thing for a company to do is to maximize profits at any cost. The way you and John have chosen to do business is proof that you can be successful while also caring about your employees, your customers, the environment etc.
My most common thought when watching Hank videos is "How does he get so damn much done?!" So it's refreshing in a way to hear him talk about limitations. This is an exciting moment for your company! I'm excited to see how things take shape.
It’s been incredibly uplifting and lovely to watch hanks progression through managing and prioritising his personal life while still making time for and doing the things that feel important for him. Like, it just feels like a very healthy journey to witness and helps remind me that even though I am not a CEO, that balance is still something I need to work at and prioritize. Super proud of you Hank! ❤
Recovery is such a crazy time and really comes with a lot of odd grief in my experience. You do think things will go straight back to the way they were and it takes a lot of time if they go back at all and it is a lot. Wishing you the best for your journey.
This has been the best Pizzamas ever. Of the 7 that I’ve participated in, this one has hit differently. After everything that’s happened this year, it felt more needed than ever. Thank you, John and Hank, for your amazing videos this Pizzamas. We got beauties Hank dancing and John addressing the UN, along with (almost) daily John livestreams, which I particularly enjoyed :) Thank you to the people at DFTBA for making this possible. For the app, the merch, the amazing product descriptions, and for moderating the livestreams. You all are truly awesome
I'm soo proud of you Hank! It takes so much courage to do what you're doing and much more so to have hope. The weird and wonderful of everything you put out in the world is aspirational and I for one can't wait to see what's next (and past and present) for you! ❤
We have had a truly awful yr at my house and I somehow missed Pizzamas. I just watched this video. Everything was sold out for Pizzamas, which is completely awesome! But i am still heartbroken that I missed it. THE SHIRTS WERE AMAZING! My family makes fun of me bc all I wear most of the time are these shirts with this kindof creepy guy on them, so, yeah, no new wardrobe this yr. Hank, congrats on acting like a sane human. Something we should all try. I am very glad you are mending. The world needs you.
Hank sometimes your energy bounces around between human, claymation character, and wild marionette. It's pretty great. I don't know if that makes sense.
Thank you providing this update interwoven with vulnerability on matters of productivity and identity. You’re simultaneously exceptional and relatable. It’s a true comfort in a sea of photoshopped perfection whispering ‘you’re so close’ as they keep moving the goal posts. Be well being you.
More time for Mentapolis Season 2 is what I’m hearing. (Unironically really excited and optimistic about this! This had to be really scary to do, but that’s the case with a lot of good decisions.)
As someone who has hesitated to apply for jobs at Complexly due to the many negative glassdoor reviews, I'm incredibly proud of you for making this decision, Hank. It's so rare for a CEO to have this level of self-awareness and I hope other CEOs look to you as a role model in the future. P.S. I hope you do a video introducing us to LJ and getting to know her better!
I would love to see snippet reviews of some of the media you consumed during this since you asked for recommendations. If you had anything you were able to enjoy while healing.
Gonna be honest, went through a tough time with losing my dad and visiting hospitals for two months straight, non-stop, and I couldn't really watch your videos without tearing up a little. I'm not really able to deal with sickness and health lately, I guess. But oh man I'm happy you're doing better!!
I watched my mom go through cancer, chemo, radiation, shaving her head, everything. And the new hair she got after. Anyhow, good for you for stepping down from a thing. I've been mesmerized by all the stuff you've been involved in! How do you squeeze 36 hours out of 24 hours I'll never know, but I've been super impressed by your various careers for decades. I don't know you personally, but you and John have been a big part of my life in real and meaningful ways for a long time. I'm glad you're on the mend and can hardly wait to see what you do next! Apply for the grant! I got one in 2018 and even though my channel is in a period of inactivity, that grant didn't just help me produce better videos for my channel, it also helped me go from a job I was miserable at in a career I didn't want to becoming a full-time educational video creator (first by getting a job at MinuteEarth and currently editing videos for Johnny Harris). I wouldn't have been able to get those jobs if I wasn't able to produce some videos on my own during my free time that I was able to use as a portfolio of work to land those other jobs. I used the gear/software/courses I got using that grant to do stuff I wouldn't have been able to do at the time with the gear (and income) I had at the time. So, definitely do apply!
I’m so glad you’re becoming more and more bubbly like your old self. You’ve done so much and fought cancer kicking it’s butt! This is the absolute best corner of the internet and so many people have been effected by your work that don’t even realize it!! It’s amazing, and I’m so happy I’ve gotten to witness it happen. I’m so excited to see what is in store for you in your next chapter. DFTBA ❤

I started watching in my 60's and am now in. the later half of my 70's. Love Hank & John.
I started watching when I was in middle school and now I’m in my mid twenties. I took a big break in there but coming back and seeing that they’re still doing good things is so nice
Same with all of you :’) they’ve just continued to be awesome
The role of "has been" is fd up. "Chose not to have been" is a better title.
Bro really knows how to almost give us a heart attack with "I quit!"
RIGHT!!
Did you honestly believe that for even a moment?
Fr
It's really manipulative.
how are you in almost every comment section
I think you and John both TOTALLY realize and totally DON'T realize how charismatic and full of 'people want to be around you' vibes you two are! And it's endearing. I'm glad you're able to make these decisions and that you already had the CEO interviews going before things Got Real! Thanks for being you, literally. ((edit: REAL ENGINGEERING! I am delighted))
Thank you Hank! I love that you put this public face to cancer. Little channel creators like me get flack for “not looking sick”. I so appreciate you! Keep healing!
Congratulations, LJ and Julie! And a warm dftba welcome to Hank-the-intern.
This is a crazy coincidence, I’m typing out my resignation letter for my job 😅
You got this!
Good luck❤
Congratulations!!!
🎉🎉🎉
I always appreciate it when Hank pulls back the curtain a bit and is open about his challenges and limitations. It makes all of the interesting things he does look much more achievable... in another word, it's inspiring :)
"You should have seen Katherine's eyes"
My immediate thought when the video started was "Oh I bet Katherine is so happy right now" 😂😂😂
“I love a challenge as long as it’s achievable” needs to be a shirt.
I would also like a pin/badge with that quote written on it. That way, I could wear it with a collared business shirt!
I applied to work for DFTBA. I lost my job and have been volunteering at a school ... And it feels good. I definitely understand having your identity tied up in your work. But you're still Hank with a great hankstache. Thank you for everything you gave us
I LOVE how self-aware you are. I think it's like my 4th or 5th favorite thing about you.

Wishing you the best for your journey.
why am i happy crying over this video. im just glad Hank is happy and good.
Same.

Same I am crying!!!
Replacing yourself with two woman CEOs who are almost certainly better at the job than you is kind of the best thing ever. Well done y'all.
Please to hear you are deciding to keep it down a notch Hank
This has been the best Pizzamas ever. Of the 7 that I’ve participated in, this one has hit differently. After everything that’s happened this year, it felt more needed than ever.
Thank you, John and Hank, for your amazing videos this Pizzamas. We got beauties Hank dancing and John addressing the UN, along with (almost) daily John livestreams, which I particularly enjoyed :)
Thank you to the people at DFTBA for making this possible. For the app, the merch, the amazing product descriptions, and for moderating the livestreams. You all are truly awesome

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Hank could pull off a decent Walter White cosplay? All he need is the hat and beard.
Honestly, I can see it
He's got Ned Flanders with zero effort...
hank
Nah, hank is too sweet and quirky to play Heisenberg. Can you imagine Hank saying: “Say my name.” ? No way!
@@BartvG88 no, but I can see him saying “Pop Corners”
Answer in Progress is such an amazing channel! I love their videos
Okay my man don't scare me that BAD. Happy you're redistributing workloads and resting, I'm sure LJ is gonna do a great job 💓
It's weirdly comforting to know so many people felt the same anxiety as I, only separated by time... 😊 Keep going. It gets better.
Heyyyy Hank! So happy to see you! ❤ You're a real example to me
Hank sometimes your energy bounces around between human, claymation character, and wild marionette. It's pretty great. I don't know if that makes sense.
I saw the video's notification, screamed, and now here I am.
So glad your you and you are slaying the transitions in your life. Work, health and all in between. We love ya man, do you boo!
I would love to see snippet reviews of some of the media you consumed during this since you asked for recommendations. If you had anything you were able to enjoy while healing.
Love a good shift!! We are all so proud of you for doing what you gotta do. Sending you all my best
Gonna be honest, went through a tough time with losing my dad and visiting hospitals for two months straight, non-stop, and I couldn't really watch your videos without tearing up a little. I'm not really able to deal with sickness and health lately, I guess. But oh man I'm happy you're doing better!!
I couldn't watch his videos either, my mom passed after a long fight with cancer in '21. I'm so happy to see him in remission!
GOOD GOD MAN. DON’T DO THAT.
And I love the mustache!!! LOL.
Job title suggestions: Prime Minister; President of the Galaxy; CEO (Corndog Executive Officer); CHO - Chief Hank Officer; Chief Viral TikTok Officer; Paid Intern
Also, you didn't quit, you were demoted! lol
I'm voting Chief Hank Officer. Considering that the last major TH-cam celebrity to step down as CEO of his company chose "Chief Vision Officer", the precedent exists to go as cringe as possible!
My thoughts were Chief of Awesome / Chief Awesome Officer or Awesome Consultant
@@LynTwigs Ooo, I like this one!
You got me, hank. I don't have my own oven mitt and I'd been considering the pizza john one, and you got me. Compliments to the new CEO
That title had me click so fast
You and your brother are two of my favorite “public” people. My life is better for you both having touched it.
Thank you!
I also got diagnosed with a health thing the day before my birthday this year 🤝 feeling some solidarity lol
Teamwork is definitely me favorite Pizzamas shirt. I guess because it works as a regular T-shirt as well. Also, I am a sucker for green 💚
Hank, I'm so happy for you and very happy that other qualified people gave taken over the leadership position at DFTBA and complexly. I can't wait to run out of soaps and start my sun basin soap subscription ❤
🗣☮️ Dear Hank, if you want to just be the "Mouth-Peace", it shall be just fine with us! 💜💜💜 ☮️☮️☮️
I've never really watched this channel before this Pizzamas, I've mostly seen Hank on TikTok and I love your longer content just as much and even more.
Pizzamas is awesome, and the shirts look fantastic. All the best to everyone involved in this awesome project
Name: Hank Green
Job Title: Hank Green
You just mentioned all of my educational channels! Thank you for your support!
"Mouthpiece" is a perfectly acceptable job title.
Certainly I will continue to be that!!!
We love you, Hank! 💛
Gotta be honest, i had no idea dave green ran DFTBA
Teamwork John is so pretty! I ordered that one~ It’s been a lovely Pizzamas, thank you for the continued weirdness! I’m excited for the next chapter in DFTBA and Complexly, always amazing things coming
Hank is amazing. He hires and inspires great employees.
I'm so glad that the change over in CEO's has been a positive one. Despite all the bad stuff that's been going on for you.
When you do get a new title at the companies I really hope you go for something out there and different. I have a couple of suggestions:
SW: Suggestions Wizard
COTW: Chief of the Weird
I'd love to know what everyone else would suggest.
Wishing you a speedy recovery!
does this mean the world now has TWO ethically sourced unpaid interns?????
The fact one can still be a CEO without being a full time CEO makes me so joyful. The possibilities! Props to y’all for letting go with care, love, and a focus so much on community interesting walk alongside together weird than money, fast growth, and algorithms.
this grind life ain’t for me either hank, I just wanna live life swimmingly
7:31 "the thing about getting a lot of support over the years is that you understand how much support matters and you want to turn that back and support others when you can"
Apply for the grant!
"Physics for the Birds" is one of my favorite educational youtube channels. Small following, but super interesting videos.
Hank, you've been a good person and you've earned this W. Congrats bud
I’m so glad you’re becoming more and more bubbly like your old self. You’ve done so much and fought cancer kicking it’s butt! But seeing you feeling so bad and deal with the anxiety and depression was so sad, but completely understand! I’m so glad you’ve come this far and have moments that you can be your bubbly self! I hope you don’t feel you must cover your physical feelings just for us viewers, if you can’t be so up and active that’s ok! Of course you probably know that but it’s just so nice to see you doing what you love, and being yourself. 💜
"flattery will get you everywhere"
You really are awesome, Hank. Glad for you to be taking this step.
As someone who also quit their executive role this year: Congratulations! 🎉
Teamwork is my fave because it’s the most normal. The only pizza john shirt I’ve purchased is the mushroom one from a few years back. It’s very wearable!
Chief Vision Officer?
When I think of truly goodhearted people that are deserving of peace, I think of Hank and John. You two have been a constant in my life from the time I stumbled upon vlogbrothers as a kid to now in my adulthood. a lot has happened in the time I've been a need fighter, ups and downs, highs and lows, I've lost people and found people, I've moved a lot, got married, and through it all, I always know that I can go on TH-cam and find a couple of nerds that always make me feel at home. I wish I could give both you and John big hugs. Hank, don't ever feel bad for taking steps to making your quality of life better. you deserve it. you've changed so many lives. including mine. thank you. DFTBA
Why can't... more people be like you? You're so kind... and so involved and immersed in what you care about... you're hands down the best science communicator and probably... the best person on TH-cam, in my professional opinion... I'm so greatful that you're in recovery. I don't have much in life but listening to you and your brother is something I really value in life... and I'm sure millions of other people would agree... the world is a better place that you both are in it.

watching in Dec 23, just been through massive change, you helped me make sense, thankyou both.
First!!! Finally 😂
I would like to thank the academy for this titanic achievement that I have been working towards for years
I just love this channel and this community. 50% of revenues to give grants to educational channels?? I just drinking love this. Been here since I was 16, at 22, still loving it (saludos de Chile)
😮 When I saw that title my heart skipped a beat. I'm really nervous about what a new CEO means for Nerdfighteria but the fact that Hank is still gonna be involved makes me a little less nervous. Please, Universe, let this be a good thing for our community. 🙏 🙏 🙏
This is so fantastic. I feel a weird sense of pride for Hank. Like I know how much work he put into all these amazing companies and incredible ideas and it's so cool to see him acknowledge where he can help and where he can't and how to move forward with that knowledge. I cannot wait to see what he does next.
Yes! I'm excited to see what fun weird new projects he takes on (when he's ready, of course!)
@@untappedinkwell yup! I hope he focuses on recovery for as long as he needs to. He's given so much of himself to this community and his companies and it's really nice to see someone you admire take the time to take care of themselves.
@@firewordsparkler +++ As one of the (many!) nerdfighters who regularly encourages people to look after their well being, I'm always encouraged when someone takes the time to do so, especially if it's someone leading by example. And you're right, Hank has done so much for us and for his companies, it's good he's looking after himself, too.
But what's the Business Lesson from this, Hank? Your future 1 million LinkedIn followers need to know!
"Hire a CEO who's good at being a CEO" is probably a good business lesson.
Y'all are amazing. You are wonderful
