Donald Pleasance had such a presence, he was commanding, intense, he had delivery power. One Step Beyond is such an amazing show. I've loved Twilight Zone for 30 years & finding this show... Bless the people behind the TH-cam channels like this one who give us the opportunity to watch these classics that aired before we were born & wouldn't find otherwise!!! 😘
It must have been especially entertaining to watch these on their first run back in the 1950s . . . and see what Newland was going to come up with each week. As I've said elsewhere: what a charmed life he led . . .
One-Step-Beyond It's a shame his attempted comeback in the 70s with "Next Step Beyond" didn't catch on, but anthology shows in America in the 70s had it rough whereas in the UK they flourished.
I used to watch these on broadcast TV back in the early 70s with mom. She loved a good paranormal mystery. It's a shame these shows got caught up in licensing red tape for so many years before they started releasing them on DVD. Still haven't seen all of them so thanks for posting this. Never seen this episode. One I remember part of but haven't seen since back then had to do with a glider that landed itself. Set during WWII If I'm remembering correctly.
I was lucky to see Donald Pleasance on stage back in (...I reckon...) 1990. He was in the revival of 'The Caretaker', alongside Colin Firth. His performance was mesmerising. Thanks for putting this on here.
If you ever come to London take a walk along Strand-on-the-Green by Kew Bridge and near the Bull's Head pub, overlooking the Thames is a house, also overlooking the Thames, with a blue plaque on the front, It says that the house was where Donald Pleasance used to live. I daresay he sank a few in the Bull's Head too.
This reminds me of the British horror story "Casting the Runes," by M.R. James. The device of someone haunted by a piece of paper that does not leave him is very similar in both stories.
Donald Pleasance was such an outstanding character actor. He played in one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes, The Changing Of The Guard and also in the The Outer Limits, The Man With The Power. At the beginning of WWll, he was a conscientious objector but changed his mind after the London Blitz and joined the RAF. Pleasance was a radio operator, flying missions over Germany until his Lancaster bomber was shot down and he became a POW. Unlike his character in The Great Escape, he didn't teach bird watching but was popular for putting on musicals and plays.
In today's court setting, nobody cares about guilt OR innocence, they want and need convictions. There's big money in privatized prisons, problem is you NEED to fill them. Another HUGE problem, many today have no conscious in the courts, whatever their position. Hopefully you never have to find this out the HARD WAY.
well i an american , lol and i understood the story, it made me sad , for a bit there i thought he was going to kill her to , he wanted that position more than truth , the woman is my hero, if any one had reason to want her husbanddead , it was her ,yet she did the right thing thow she feared him, the story was well written short but it still made me react , thank you for posting this
One-Step-Beyond What a pleasure to watch Donald Pleasance! For the life of me, I couldn't make out what the woman was saying, behind the paper with the signature. I don't think iz your audio as much as the series itself. Other than the whispers, the audio is right on
A fine English actor, yes. But, I had to take a second look at Donald Pleasence, being amazingly unrecognizable in the 1965 western comedy "The Hallelujah Trail".
One step beyond is no doubt a mind catching and wonderful tv show. But just a query that at the end of every episode there is a hint which makes the story move nearer to reality than entertainment. Also it leaves to audience to make their own judgement. But still whichever hint is given or the stories, do they really exist or experienced ?
Donald Pleasance a truly great actor
Great episode
Oh Donald Pleasance great! Great episode!
When television and story telling was at its pinnacle.
Always loved Donald Pleasance as an actor. Every role he does, is absolutely riveting! 👏👍
He was one of those actors who did not need to rely on dialogue much just the expressions on his face could convey volumes.
I agree. Great actor.
DP was original, special, there's still no one like him. Always enjoyed watching him practice his craft, he was a master.
A ahead of his time.
I would kill to have such a fine speaking voice as DP!!!
Donald Pleasance was one of the greatest actors ever.
Michael Kilcommons which one is he?
He sure was! He was a excellent actor!
Donald Pleasance never aged . He was born an old man .
indeed he was..
Agreed!!!
10:42. "I am the last person to sit in judgment of my fellow man."
If only many people were of that humility.

TH-cam is beyond our ability to fully appreciate. It's a revolution in our civilization . . .
J is Scoobysmom amen to that
The Prince of Darkness is his best film. Priest overseeing Satan’s son kept in basement of a centuries old church.
Great show by Sir Donald Pleasance 👏
Interesting story, didn't see this one before. Thank you very much.
Glad you found this channel . . .
Powerful and haunting tale!
An amazing episode. Donald Pleasance was great
The British OSB episodes have real "gravitas" . . . for sure.
This is why OSB stands alone from all the other anthology shows. This was the only series where the host interacts with the characters. Love Newland.

Robert Dambeck
Can't remember name of the episode, but he did act in one that I saw. really young

@@dr.zarkhov9753 Hi!, I just saw one that fits that description of the glider and WWII: it's titled, "Reunion".
Donald plesance utter genius as an actor
I remember Donald Pleasence most for his appearance on Colombo as a wine connoisseur who killed his playboy brother.
I just began viewing this story and I can already see this is going to be excellent 👌!
Excellent, a truly HORRIFYING story! Thank you so much.
Thank you for this upload…you just made my evening by the fire even better!
Great artist we miss his talent
Astounding and wonderful acting and ep.

Thanks for putting this on here.
I learned of him because of his roles in major films about Jesus Christ

Kickass show
This episode was mentioned on Aveleyman today. So I checked it out. Very good, very atmospheric.
Best one yet!!
Donald Pleasance was great in t.z. *changing of the guard*
Pleasence always looked the same age
Yes, a real "character actor" . . .
Loved him in Halloween.
Donald Pleasance never aged . He was born an old man
Two other actors who never aged: William Powell and Edward G. Robinson, IMO.
I remember Donald in an episode of columbo with Julie Harris. He was wonderful. Stole the show
thank you so much for sharing !

Wow didn't know he was a P.O.W. adds a whole nee new dimension to The Great Escape.
Good show

Many innocent people find that out the hard way.
How right you are. I admire you for saying so. I say it as it is the truth the whole truth and nothing but the truth
He was great on Columbia as well

Good shew my friends.
Sound should be in better synch now . . .

This is a wonderful old show and I throughly enjoy them!
Thanks for all your hard work! It's GREATLY APPRECIATED! 👍
An episode for today
@terry hughes: Sure . . . but (in this respect) everyday is today for someone, somewhere.
A guilty conscience caused this to happen!
A fine English actor, yes. But, I had to take a second look at Donald Pleasence, being amazingly unrecognizable in the 1965 western comedy "The Hallelujah Trail".
Lucifer chuckling and rubbing his hands together
No wonder the paper looks scorched
This is a twist on Poe's A telltale heart.
Another Irony of OSB episode.
Peace
The British do low-key stuff like irony . . . better than Americans.
More "Dry."
WOW...a young Donald Pleasance.
It was definitely his guilty conscience that did him in.
Was Donald Pleasance ever anything less than good in any role he played?

The Hood and The Titanic were VERY REAL
The rare episodes were made in the UK
Yes, mostly true . . .
LOVE DONALD PLEASANCE!
BRAVO!
Is that Donald Plesence
It is, indeed . .
Ditto! Dont make'em like that any more.
Barrister Harvey Lawrence. Can anyone track down information on him?
Imagine allowing another human being to hang just to get a promotion.
Wonder if it has ever really happened?!😮
He could have and should have followed up on the woman/wife's appearance despite his doubts. The trial could have been held in abeyance.
That's POET'S CORNER in HYDE PARK, LONDON.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speakers%27_Corner
Poets' Corner is in Westminster Abbey.
Speakers' Corner is in Hyde Park.
Woah. These are really based on true stories?
Prosecutor's still convict innocent people .
😌
u saw mr lawrance at speakers corner
Didn't people carry any Identity cards or documents in those days ?
No, no longer required after WW2 . . .
Please list ten actors better than Donald P…I’ll wait
Donald Pleasance?
an unfair judge?
this is reminiscent of the Twilight Zone: The Arrival
Why should he carry the guilt when it should be the wife.
