  • Walk Summary
In this Pendle Hill walk from Barley, we are taking you to the summit by two different routes, both of which share some of the same paths and are what I consider to be two of the more scenic routes up Pendle Hill.
The Pendle Hill walk from Barley via Ogden Clough takes 2 hours and 50 minutes, whilst the Pendle Hill walk from Barley using the Pendle Way up Boar Clough takes 2 hours and 30 minutes.
Both routes pass by Lower Ogden Reservoir and Upper Ogden Reservoir before reaching where our path splits. The walk video initially keeps straight on heading up Ogden Clough and then along the flagged section to reach the top of Pendle Hill.
Returning to where the path splits we show you the right-hand path heading up Boar Clough and following the Pendle Way path to reach the summit. Both routes then return down a third route, both using the same paths to drop back down to Upper Ogden Reservoir before walking along back into Barley.
At the summit, Pendle Hill is 557m high and from there Blackpool tower, the Snowden range and the Lakeland fells can all be seen on a clear day. Whilst Pendle Hill is synonymous with the Pendle Witches (the 400th anniversary of their hanging was in 2012), it is enjoyed by many thousands of people each year.

WALKING BOOTS Unless very wet or winter walking, my preference is boots/shoes without ankle support - that's not for everyone though. Having used fell running shoes for many years, I prefer the lightweight feel.
INOV-8 Trailfly Ultra G300 Max: New to me in 2022, now the choice for 60%+ of my walks. Training shoe cushioning, but fellshoe grip and stability - getting many best in test awards.

Another superb video - we followed the Ogden Clough route on Saturday up Pendle Hill. Very hot and very busy in Barley, but I guess it was the last day of our warm spell.

Glad you enjoyed the video 👍 Barley can get busy on warm, sunny weekends. It was quieter the last time I was there, but I think partly due to road through Roughlee being closed for the summer.

Thankyou for the video. My husband and I have just taken up walking so still newbies. We have always wanted to go to Pendle Hill and are really happy to have found your video (subscribed immediately). Your explanations are brilliant, even down to which direction to take from the car park! A lot of other videos do not give the detail you do and we have got lost on more than one occasion. Will be watching further videos of yours and doing more of the walks you suggest.

So glad you enjoyed the video...and explanations! It's always good to get some good feedback on them as I'm reasonably new to making them, so hopefully they keep improving. Enjoy the walk...Pendle is a lovely walk if you get the weather and views.

Amazing highly detailed video, I downloaded this and used it across the route as there was no reception on the phone, started at 5pm and walked with my wife and 4 children it took us about 5 hours but we managed to do the whole walk exactly as described, found the car park closed at 10pm, paid and left as we were the last ones. A masterpiece video !!! Well done !

Thanks - I'm glad you enjoyed it 👍Hopefully you got your car out ok - I didn't realise it closed at 10. I'll add something to the walk text on the website to let people know. It looked a good day for the walk yesterday - dry for once!

@@walks4allthe car park closes at 9pm however we got out ok, had to open the gates and close them behind us as we left, and yes it was a dry day an excellent walk enjoyed by the family, thank you once again !!!

Great video. I've not walked the Ogden Clough route before and often wondered where it went as I wandered off up Boar Clough, but I didn't want to set off down it incase it led me miles off track. Now I know where it goes its on my 'walks to do' list. Thank you.

I did this again this morning - very windy (again!) but stretches of the path before you reach the flagged section were a little boggy...but you can divert around them. Hopefully will get the route up from the Nick of Pendle done in the next couple of weeks as well.

Walked the ogden clough route in the snow today - really enjoyed the walk but very cold on top in the wind. Warmed up with a pint back in the Pendle Inn 🍺

It is my favourite way up Pendle from Barley, although I did it last week, and with all the rain over the last few months, some of the paths after the reservoir were a bit on the muddy side!

It is a great walk and so many different ways to get up Pendle Hill. I've still got the walks from the Nick of Pendle and from Downham on the other side to do yet...
