Your example show us how this process isn't, and doesn't need to be covered with mystery. It's not goal that counts, but trip to it is what matters. Hi Peter as soon as you started I thought to myself he is going to do the bag trick, and to my surprise you did suggesting one of the trunks could go, imagine my surprise you chose the opposite trunk to me, I thought the smaller trunk would make a nice literati tree and in a way you did just that, but then you showed why you are the top artist and I am not you continued to style the main trunk into a very credible pine bonsai. A couple asides the other day I used your famous bag trick when deciding which branch to remove on a juniper I was working on, the decision became obvious. The other point, I have been working on an experiment to see the best material to use to to wrap the branch or trunk before wiring, first I used vet tape which worked ok until it needs to be removed, next I tried hessian wrap which again you can buy in a roll, which worked to a point but started to shred after a while, the last one I used a product called paper raffia which you can buy on a roll it looks and acts just like genuine raffia, like raffia you can apply it wet or dry and it holds together well and stops the wire marking the bark, so all three work, it becomes a matter of choice😂.Thank you for not taking the easy way out. Informative as Always, Peter! Glad that you mentioned the rain. Yesterday i installed a new Surround-Receiver at my TV . I thought there is Something wrong with the trebles, a sort of White noise. I tried to Change it in the menu until you mentioned the rain hammering down 😂
I have seen videos in China of people actually cutting away a section of the branch leaving only a little on the side and folding the bar and then taping it up. To create a shape of a tree but this scares the hell out of me of losing the actual tree. I often wonder what the percentages are survival.
Difficult but it might go against the grain of the wood and it might not serve any useful purpose but always worth a try - that's what experiments are for.
An absolutely fantastic transformation. See the tree at the beginning I thought no chance but how wrong can you be? Anyone would be proud to own this tree now.
hi I have never seen you those bonsai branch bending clamps. I bought some from eBay and find them quite useful. Where is you’ve got two hooks and it’s like a G clamp you turning the centrepiece and bends or pushes should I say the middle part away and pulls back the part where the hooker, I’m actually using one on a maple at the moment which I bought cheap for 5 .99 which is very long and unwanted
can you be shown again on something else but the photographer get more closer into what is actually happening? I would like to see what you’re actually doing to split the branch. My thinking would be to put the bar on a hard service and perhaps put a chisel through the branch if that is the way you are splitting it.

What about some trunk splitting on the long side too?
How long I have to wait for fertilise Yamadori
Wait till they are showing signs of new growth - then wait say a month before you give a gentle feed. Too much fertiliser can damage the roots.
I'm curious if it's possible to make the branch splitter cuts spiral around the trunk to effect a spiral twist.

That rain sounds so heavy (i can hear you clearly) Do you have an Ark on standby
Does it take longer for the branch to 'set' if branch splitting is used?
Does one have to wait longer on those branches for the wire to come off?
It wil heal in five or six months - but I would leave the wire on for at least a year.

What if the pine lacks movement and the size/bark of the trunk prevents the use of wire?
It can then be a straight tree like a formal upright or slanting style.
