I just love the way Mr Chan talks about “ten or twenty years” as though it’s just a month or two, or possibly next year. I’m 85 and have a one year old horse chestnut sapling in the garden. It looks as though I will be 125 before I can get out the lopper, chain saw and secateurs to make it into a proper bonsai. No doubt by then Mr Chan will have an updated video to show us how to do it.
horse chestnuts grow quick. Give it some compost or other fertilizer and it will take off, giving you at least half a meter of new growth a year. Trim it back every year and you will have lots of branches to choose from.
These videos are just heaven! Mr. Chan's voice, he himself, the abundance of material to work on (I always ask myself what would I do) and the beauty of the nursery! Thanks so much for sharing❤
Thank you again for sharing your thought process in creating bonsai. It is always so very insightful. (And I must admit that I even use your catchphrase, telling myself to just ´bite the bullet´ when pruning my own few bonsai.)
My gosh Peter you are awfully rough and your actions not sensitive or for the faint hearted but your trees are a testament to your method so well done to you 🙏 💚
_THANK YOU for sharing 🙏 😔 🙏_ Dr. Chan, there are so many Bonsai to be made. Each one a unique creation. Each of your videos has new ideas. You have so much material. Please show us some of the reporting, especially the large ones. Enjoy the rest of winter. 🌲🙏🖖🙏😔🙏🌲
Cricky Mr Peter Chann many thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips for the whole world to enjoy and learn from a MASTER CRAFTSMAN. Keep the dream alive son Aussie Aussie Aussie GDAY MATE from brisbane Australia
Love these videos peter. I kno this is a shot in the dark but i would love to have more knowledge on grafting from u. Would love to see how and when to graft maples and shimpakus such as just taking a branch from the same tree and grafting it back onto the trunk where a branch is needed. Thanks peter
Some amazing material there but my favorite has to be the horse chestnut on the barrow. Going to be stunning in a put with a couple of years of refining. And definitely the right choice of branch to cut off .
I am behind my time here in the S.E.US but I am about to start pruning most of my outside trees. Can this principle of Structure pruning be used with my 2 Dawn Redwoods as well? They are potted, and have a conical shape but are starting to get "leggy" in the branches, since I am still trying to figure out how to prune Dawn Redwoods for ramification.
I did enjoy. Is it too early to start trimming up Japanese maples or should I wait a couple more weeks my weather is probably a little colder than yours 6A
How fortunate is Tyler, working with Peter Chan, learning. If I'm fortunate enough to have a second career once I'm out of the first I know it'll be horticulture / bonsai in some form 😊
I have the exact same thought in my head.! Maybe even teach classes of some sort. Where i am i dont think anyone is into this but im sure i can get people into it. Heres hoping for our next jobs😂

Now that's what I call a proper bonsai perspective!! 🎉
I’m almost 84 and have some tree seeds germinating. Cheers to fellow senior citizen

I always think 'oh yes I'd do that too' but give me the raw material and I'll make it into a complete mess in minutes! Bonsai LOOKS simple. It's not.
I love watching Peters videos. Whatever his topic is, I learn something. He is a great teacher!

My favorite kind of video wherein Peter thinks out loud as he works. thank-you!
Bonsai art, like all art, is a combination of calculation, inspiration and perspiration. Peter Chan embodies all three.
I love your work! You are a treasure to the world! Thank you for sharing your gift of Bonsi trees 🌲
What kind of sealing paste do you use?
I thought you dont prune maple until the leaves had hardened off? I thought you had mentioned that in a previous video.

Peter doesn't really do grafts. He propagates by seed, cutting or airlayering.
Grafts often look ugly on bonsai trees.
Halo saya dari Indonesia, Terima kasih sudah berbagi video dan menjadi inspirasi untuk kami❤❤
I agree with Tyler and thanks for sharing your expertise
