One of the things I really like about your videos is that it feels like you’ve invited us over to your place to chat about music - it’s great:) So thank you for taking the time to make these for us 🙏❤️ I bought this album on Cassette on the day it was released back in 1994, and I still have that original double tape. Apparently one of the tracks of the expanded edition (#19 I think?) wasn’t on the original CD but it was on the Cassette version. I must admit, I do prefer this and Selected Ambient Works 85-92 to his more abrasive stuff. I discovered Aphex Twin back in the 90s when I was still in high school and I was the only kid in my school who had even heard of him - to be fair I’m from a very rural, back of beyond type place, where we don’t exactly have our finger on the pulse of cool music 😂 I relied on music magazines back then, especially the NME, and that’s where I first read about Aphex Twin, and I’m so grateful that I did. I can still remember putting in the tape of SAW 85-92 and listening to the first track, Xtal, and having my mind blown 😊 Aphex Twin has been a big influence on my own music, to the extent that perhaps if it wasn’t for him I might not be making music today.
That's awesome to still have the cassette. I dont think i ever owned a double cassette tape back in the day. I can say i didn't get into Aphex Twin well into adulthood. I had a thing against electronic music in my teens. Funny you say that about 85-92, as i got that second hand about a year ago and in my mind it was always the lesser of the 2, but having listened to it over the last year, it is brilliant.
I also got this CD since I haven't gotten this one from his discography. Definitely one of the most expensive CDs I bought. I was a bit disappointed by how the case was formatted. Hated how the CDs and the booklet were binded together. But the aesthetic in the booklet and CDs is awesome. I like this album though, its has a bit of a melancholic but calming vibe that I enjoy. Just getting lost in your own thoughts while having this in the background. Most I spent on a cd is 40 USD on a cd of Coaltars of the Deepers - No Thank You. One of my favorite shoegaze albums.
I dont know if there were different editions of that original 94 version. I know it didnt have Stone in Focus. The 2 bonus tracks on this are "th 1[evnslower"] and "Rhubard Orc. 19.53 Rev"
@@SecondHandCDCollector Thank you I forgot the title but it’s Stone In Focus that is present on the original Cassette - the other x2 tracks are exclusive to the expanded version I assume?
The 1994 UK LP and UK CS was 25 tracks. The 1994 UK CD was 24 (dropped 19 or ‘stone in focus’). The 1994 US CD was 23 tracks (in addition to 19, it also dropped 4 or ‘hankie’). This is now the full 25 plus the two additions. The funny thing is that “th1 [evnslower]” was available for a long while before this particular release. It was available digitally through his own Warp artist site. All in all, I’m also a huge fan of this album =]
Considering this is probably one of the very few and true works of musical genius, it's amazing how ridiculously no-frills and low-budget the packaging is on both the CD and vinyl LP formats. Record companies suck.
Sorry for commenting again but just to add, thank you so much for sharing about your life and memories of this album. Also, I think your comparison with Mike Patton is spot on - I would also maybe compare him with Tom Waits and Bob Dylan - in that they each have created these persona so skilfully that we simply don’t know the real person behind the artist. Some people say these artists are eccentric, but I would argue that they are more than likely some of the most balanced and “normal” people you could meet - shielding themselves and their families from the prying eyes of the media is not eccentric at all IMHO.
You're right. You'd think it would be a natural defense in some ways. Keeping it all at arms length, through humor or general obfuscation. What kind of nutcase would want to completely open up their life, camera crews and all, like some do nowadays.
@@SecondHandCDCollector Yeah I don’t think we’ll ever see a reality show like “At Home With Aphex Twin” or something 😂 I appreciate having that mystery preserved and also as someone who would hate that kind of attention and intrusion, I totally understand and relate to why they would want to keep even well-meaning fans at arms length.

I agree with the first paragraph. This is very candid, like you're sitting with him instead of being talked at behind a camera lens.
Worth it. Brilliant album. It's like buying good drugs, but instead, it will last looonger. Thanks for the looky... ✌️
there is something about the fact that people trying to describe aphex twin's music and struggle to articulate it.
"What kind of music does he make? He makes Aphex Twin music. "
It's hard to articulate how shit it is.
@@lucasoheyze4597 Its so bad that it becomes good after a few listens.

I was juat talking with someone who paid $95 nzd, which is rougly 50$ usd for the Ween album Quebec.
I would've loved this as a teen. I only have the original UK release, many tracks are omitted due to the lack of disk space
