wow thank you for sharing your thoughts about graham's book, i always wanted some conversations like this, diving deep into blur and graham etc. i think i'm going to read this after watching your video, thank you again!
@@pepper_luyy8928 thanks so much! definitely worth a read. i just picked up Alex James's biography up from the library yesterday. will be interesting to see his take.
@@SecondHandCDCollector yeah i read some interviews, i think Alex's biography would give some interesting insights. would be great if you talk about it in a video after finishing it!
Good video! Keep up the good work.

Hell yea GYBE 🔥🔥🔥 awesome CDs
Howard Stern's about as funny as a holocaust. Unusual find though, sure.
I really wanted to start collecting vinyl but there is already so many things i collect and vinyl is expensive i have always collected cds there cheaper and sometimes you can find some really good stuff out in the wild if you look good enough
Definitely
I also got this CD since I haven't gotten this one from his discography. Definitely one of the most expensive CDs I bought. I was a bit disappointed by how the case was formatted. Hated how the CDs and the booklet were binded together. But the aesthetic in the booklet and CDs is awesome. I like this album though, its has a bit of a melancholic but calming vibe that I enjoy. Just getting lost in your own thoughts while having this in the background. Most I spent on a cd is 40 USD on a cd of Coaltars of the Deepers - No Thank You. One of my favorite shoegaze albums.
I was juat talking with someone who paid $95 nzd, which is rougly 50$ usd for the Ween album Quebec.
The songs on this album were inspired by Damon’s thoughts on his own life and thoughts at the time. Yuko and Hiro depicts his relationship with Justine at the time. They didn’t see each other at all. Blur would travel and go on tour, when Damon came back, Justine’s band Elastica would travel and go on tour and so on. They wouldn’t see or spend time together. “I never see you, we’re never together, I’ll love you forever” that chorus is based on that
Interesting. Im reading Graham Coxon's biography right now. Though a pretty good book, he really doesn't give much insight into the songs, obviously because he didn't write most of the lyrics. Would love to read a Damon Albarn biography one day, though he doesn't seem like the kind of person who would want to write one
How do you evaluate the playability of discs? How can you tell if scratches will affect playback by looking?
I'm no expert, but usually visually you can tell. I only have a handful that have playability issues and they are all really visibly scratched all over the surface. If there are a few light scratches it (usually) has no problems playing. If i was paying $10+ i would expect the disc to be in very good - mint condition. But anything less than $10 (which most of my collection is) I'll usually take a gamble and buy it even if pretty scratched up. Almost never have playability issues.
@@SecondHandCDCollector Okay. Yeah, if I’m paying $10 or up, the discs have to be near perfect or mint. I had to send a CD back on eBay as a seller was being dishonest about the condition. I wasn’t keeping a disc that wasn’t as described for $11.27.
@@Katiestechandmore Yes, resellers absolutely should be upfront and honest about condition. Also buying on ebay (or discogs etc) i think there's more expectation that the CD will be in very good condition, as opposed to charity, second hand shops where its more "what you see is what you get".
Found a bunch of good cds here the other week. 10 for $10AUD. Including a 3 disc best of The Doors for a dollar, Best of Smashing Pumpkins, Belle & Sebastian etc
@@oinkooink cant do do much better than 10 for 10
@@SecondHandCDCollector Not bad hey. CDs on offer trounced the vinyl offerings. (This is in a Lifeline charity shop). The vinyl is all classical, Kamal, Harry Secombe and obscure forgotten random singers. The CD's have a lot of classical too to be fair...but there's a lot of other stuff.
Iv never gave radiohead a chance fans in chat what's their best albums to get into to start off with?
@@imemine8605 depends on wgat kind of music you like. But id say Ok Computer is the perfect starter. Or maybe In Rainbows.
@SecondHandCDCollector i like alsorts but mainly guitar music, i don't know why but i don't think i like his style of singing, each to their own obviously but other big bands in the past as iv got older iv understood the mass appeal, ill give them another listen. Thanks
The only Radiohead album I don't like is Pablo Honey.
@@countquackula8539 yeah not the greatest. Though when i bought this it wasn't as bad as I'd remembered. I think in context of what came after it seems like such a weak album
just got the vinyl worth every cent if you known how long we have been waiting for the repress!! 🤞🏾
Listened to it all. Radiohead is my favorite band too. Envy you could go to his concert. I saw Rh in Oslo in 2001. It was amazing.
@@Svankmajer thanks for watching. I appreciate it. I hope i get to see the full Radiohead one day
Inside the booklet there's some yellow-ish words ....if you put the blue case on top of the words, you will be able to read it. Those words are actually the lyrics of a hidden track that you can hear only if you insert the cd into a computer
Thats awesome. I had no idea. Thanks!

Worth it. Brilliant album. It's like buying good drugs, but instead, it will last looonger. Thanks for the looky... ✌️
Considering this is probably one of the very few and true works of musical genius, it's amazing how ridiculously no-frills and low-budget the packaging is on both the CD and vinyl LP formats. Record companies suck.
Yeah the vinyl should definitely be a gatefold
Saw these guys at Big Day Out back in '98 I think it was, then again in the UK a few times in 2005. 100% Columbian is the album to beat.
there is something about the fact that people trying to describe aphex twin's music and struggle to articulate it.
"What kind of music does he make? He makes Aphex Twin music. "
It's hard to articulate how shit it is.

I would've loved this as a teen. I only have the original UK release, many tracks are omitted due to the lack of disk space
I dont know if there were different editions of that original 94 version. I know it didnt have Stone in Focus. The 2 bonus tracks on this are "th 1[evnslower"] and "Rhubard Orc. 19.53 Rev"
@@SecondHandCDCollector Thank you I forgot the title but it’s Stone In Focus that is present on the original Cassette - the other x2 tracks are exclusive to the expanded version I assume?
@@windhymn479as far as i can see, yes. Those are, i believe, previously unreleased
The 1994 UK LP and UK CS was 25 tracks. The 1994 UK CD was 24 (dropped 19 or ‘stone in focus’). The 1994 US CD was 23 tracks (in addition to 19, it also dropped 4 or ‘hankie’). This is now the full 25 plus the two additions. The funny thing is that “th1 [evnslower]” was available for a long while before this particular release. It was available digitally through his own Warp artist site. All in all, I’m also a huge fan of this album =]
the 2 extra tracks were in the soundcloud dump he did a while back@@SecondHandCDCollector
Enjoyed the vid. For me it's her greatest album. I received it as a gift shortly after it was released. So reflective: Ironbound Fancy Poultry, Toms Diner, Solitude Standing: she is almost painting pictures with words. I agree, it is very cohesive. Cheers from London!
Thanks for your comment! I made this video almost 2 years ago now and I'd say my love and appreciation of this album has grown since then. Every time i listen to it its like i discover something new about it.
Sorry for commenting again but just to add, thank you so much for sharing about your life and memories of this album. Also, I think your comparison with Mike Patton is spot on - I would also maybe compare him with Tom Waits and Bob Dylan - in that they each have created these persona so skilfully that we simply don’t know the real person behind the artist. Some people say these artists are eccentric, but I would argue that they are more than likely some of the most balanced and “normal” people you could meet - shielding themselves and their families from the prying eyes of the media is not eccentric at all IMHO.
You're right. You'd think it would be a natural defense in some ways. Keeping it all at arms length, through humor or general obfuscation. What kind of nutcase would want to completely open up their life, camera crews and all, like some do nowadays.
@@SecondHandCDCollector Yeah I don’t think we’ll ever see a reality show like “At Home With Aphex Twin” or something 😂 I appreciate having that mystery preserved and also as someone who would hate that kind of attention and intrusion, I totally understand and relate to why they would want to keep even well-meaning fans at arms length.
One of the things I really like about your videos is that it feels like you’ve invited us over to your place to chat about music - it’s great:) So thank you for taking the time to make these for us 🙏❤️ I bought this album on Cassette on the day it was released back in 1994, and I still have that original double tape. Apparently one of the tracks of the expanded edition (#19 I think?) wasn’t on the original CD but it was on the Cassette version. I must admit, I do prefer this and Selected Ambient Works 85-92 to his more abrasive stuff. I discovered Aphex Twin back in the 90s when I was still in high school and I was the only kid in my school who had even heard of him - to be fair I’m from a very rural, back of beyond type place, where we don’t exactly have our finger on the pulse of cool music 😂 I relied on music magazines back then, especially the NME, and that’s where I first read about Aphex Twin, and I’m so grateful that I did. I can still remember putting in the tape of SAW 85-92 and listening to the first track, Xtal, and having my mind blown 😊 Aphex Twin has been a big influence on my own music, to the extent that perhaps if it wasn’t for him I might not be making music today.
That's awesome to still have the cassette. I dont think i ever owned a double cassette tape back in the day. I can say i didn't get into Aphex Twin well into adulthood. I had a thing against electronic music in my teens. Funny you say that about 85-92, as i got that second hand about a year ago and in my mind it was always the lesser of the 2, but having listened to it over the last year, it is brilliant.
I agree with the first paragraph. This is very candid, like you're sitting with him instead of being talked at behind a camera lens.
I’m sorry for commenting on an older video but I only discovered your channel today - and really pleased that I did 😊 It sounds like we’re around the same age, and also a fellow Soundgarden fan, and I also struggle with anxiety and depression myself, so I completely get where you’re coming from - and thank you for being open about that 🙏 I sold most of my CD collection some years ago, apart from my real favourites, but over the past 2 years or so, I’ve ended up buying a number of those CDs again secondhand, as I regretted selling them, plus buying a lot of others, artists that I’ve since began following. I don’t miss all of it, and actually a lot of them was music that I don’t actually like anymore, but the stuff that I wanted again, I’ve been picking up as and when I can. I got into collecting Vinyl back in the early 2000s when records were cheap (at least here in the U.K.) before the Vinyl renaissance kicked in, but the price of new Vinyl is ridiculous- and most of the time with stuff being released today is cut from a hi-res digital file anyway, so it’s not like your money is getting you an authentic vintage-sounding all-analog pressing. (That’s not to say that new Vinyl can’t sound good, but I don’t see the point of paying a lot more when I might as well buy the CD. If I want to buy Vinyl, I try to seek out cheap all-analog pressings on Discogs and eBay). But the main thing I collect now is used CDs. I’m physically disabled now, as well as being Autistic and having my other issues, so I’m no longer able to work, so I can’t afford what the music industry is asking for new releases, but I’m really thankful that I can still collect CDs, mainly from places like eBay and Discogs - plus in the U.K. we have an online seller called Music Magpie who are really good - and very cheap too:) I did manage to get out to our local town this past weekend - only the third time in 12 months as I get very anxious (weirdly though since I began to use a wheelchair, my anxiety is noticeably lower; I have no idea why) anyway, I was in a lot of pain and I wanted to get home but on the way to the car I asked my Wife to push me into the Oxfam shop we were passing - they had an awesome selection of Jazz CDs, so I was able to pick up a lot of music for not very much money - so it made the trip worthwhile! 😊 So pleased I found your channel today - thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos - oh and sorry for my rambling comment 🤦♂️ Take care and stay safe 🙏❤️
Thanks for your comment. I appreciate anyone commenting, new video, old video! I sometimes envy you guys in the Northern Hemisphere as there must so many gems floating around and at much greater frequency. So many releases you guys got in the UK we never got down here. But i guess a lot bigger population too, so more people in the hobby. Im glad to hear you're collecting CDs. I restarted like you, just wanting get back some favourites, especially from the 90s. But once i saw how cheap it was i expanded. Though in the last 6-12 months ive started to narrow my purchases again. Thanks for sharing your life situation. Doing this is definitely one thing that keeps a bit of balance in my life. Hope things are going OK for you up there. Thanks again for watching.
@@SecondHandCDCollector Thank you so much for reading my comment and replying:) Yes, I was thinking when you mentioned in your video where you show the NIN CD and I think you paid around 12 dollars for it; I checked and it’s just over £5 here, so although I’ve noticed that second hand CD prices have risen slightly, we’ve still got it very good here. Some of the more niche stuff is more expensive, but still compared to collecting Vinyl, it’s a pretty cheap hobby. This week I’ve been rebuying Radiohead - I sold most of my CDs because I needed the money for tools, which ironically now I can’t use. I got a bit carried away and sold some stuff that I really didn’t want to, but thankful that for the most part there’s still plenty out there in really good condition and cheap too. Thank you again, take care and stay safe 🙏❤️
I normally can't read long comments but this one kept my attention. You have a gift with writing. Anyways you're right about all of it. It’s just “yeah yeah yeahs” no “the” in their name. What is your take on interpol?
I quite like Interpol. Or maybe i should say, the stuff of theirs i like, i really like a lot, whereas the stuff I don't like im a bit ambivalent on. Overall id say im a fan.
@@SecondHandCDCollector I like what you are saying, what do you do for a crust?
When the CD is inside a cardboard digipak, I use rice paper sleeves to protect the actual disc. They cost about £6 for 100. If you protect your digipaks with clear outer protective sleeves too, they will remain in pristine condition just like an LP cover.
Good ideas
I also enjoy the new age/ambient CDs. Great for going to sleep to
