Speaking of tooth clearance/contact pattern , etc ..... I used high spot blue to set up rear end ring and pinions , it gives a vary clear picture of contact , to get the teeth to bearing against each other correctly (depth and back lash -contact is one thing , getting it adjusted to bearing against each other is another thing all together) , some use paint . I only mentioned it because most people probably never heard of it , or know how useful it can be in a number of situations .
that only works when you have a way of adjusting it. these are all fixed dimension here. you can only change out parts for better fittment. most of what i do is figuare out a way to remachine or hand detail the parts to make things work correctly. when you just make things very sloppy to work that usually leads to more broken parts down the road. having to deal with parts made wrong is not uncommon around here. when you are the last option for the repair, you get all the crap to deal with. it keeps your brain exercised. tatro
can you just drill and tap that oil feed hole put an allen plug in there and if someone wants to go back to a chain drive they can just remove the allen plug, i didn't realize how much can be involved in setting up these oil pumps, definitely not something you want to get wrong
maybe but the gaskets are not that big. you still have to have a seal when you are done. after almost a hundred years, the newer designs are way eaiser. that does not mean they are better, just different. tatro
