This theme is easily unmatched against every other theme in any game. Persona 3(and Portable) soundtrack has the most unique soundtrack l ever heard in my life. It's truly unmatched.
I'd argue that Kimi No Kioku (Memories of You), Memories of the School, Memories of the City, and Living With Determination (both the regular and the "- Iwatodai Dorm Arrange -" version) matches it. And let's not forget Battle for Everyone's Souls.
I say any game Yoko Shimomura composed for tends to have a great OST. Bravely Default as well, and so many other games. Saying Persona has the best soundtrack compared to every other game ever is really closed minded.
probably a very much intended addition. You see it in many places to increase tension. My favourite example of this is in the PWT finals battle music from Pokemon Black/White 2
Rescuro An example I can think of is a track in Metroid Fusion that plays when the SA-X is in the same room as you but you haven’t been detected yet. As the theme is ominous and the footsteps of the SA-X echo, the heartbeat like sounds in the track add even more tension.
So .... Nobody is talking about how good the cut ins are for the tracks? I love it, makes it sound even better as you can hear in rhytem how it changes. Thank you for this piece

While Tartarus' design represents the world itself and how Nyx is going to kill the world(block 5 looks psychedelic and Nyx is planning to turn everyone into the lost), the music represents the situation in the game. Thebel(block 1) opens at the beginning of the game. The music is grim and dark. In the game, the characters don't really know what to do with the dark hour to make it disappear. They also don't treat each other too well. Arqa opens just a little before Fuuka joins S.E.E.S and when they realize that every full moon a big shadow appears. At that point, they think they know how to make the dark hour go away(killing all the big shadows). The music has a bit more detail showing that they now have an objective. Yabbashah's theme is pretty quiet. In the game, not many events happen during that time. Tziah's theme is a bit sad and melancholic. At the time when you traverse through it Shinji dies and Ikutsuki reveals that he is a traitor. During Harabah S.E.E.S doesn't know what to do. A lot of them are going through some tough times. A lot of things happen(Like Ryoji remembering that he is death) that's why the music has a faster pace. Also you can hear something that sounds like screams of agony. I don't think I should explain that those screams are representing s.e.e.s. mental state. Adamah sounds almost heroic and feels like its trying to fill the player with determination(undertale reference was unintentional). In the game when you can finally access Adamah, everyone was able to face the fact that they're going to die. They found the resolve to fight and decided that if they were to die they want to die knowing they died doing everything they could instead of dying in bliss.
adamah is my fav block for the very reason. music sounds heroic as if you're rising from a fall, the block itself is the perfect final destination, the white that's brighter than the block before. definitely my fav part of the game
@@akifashu yep, it's great in block 1, the room is dark while in block 6 it's bright considering you give everything you have and make sure to fight nyx no matter how impossible it was and that's why i like tartarus, music theme is the complete journey, better than mementos
I think it's because Nyx descends upon the surface. She doesn't rise to it. And when you look at the description of the Greek Tartarus , "Tartarus is the deepest part of the underworld, where the greatest threat to humanity and the gods would be imprisoned so they would never put fear in the hearts of humans again. Though of course sometimes these monsters are known to escape every now and than, creating chaos in the depths of the underworld or if they are really powerful, the surface." Nyx being the Harbringer of the Fall (literally the end of Humanity), it makes sense that Tartarus actually goes up, as some sort of ""ladder"" for Nyx to descend upon the world.
i think its just because hell is upwards, the true tartarus is in the sky and kaguya as nyx is bringing the upper hell to the higher ground... i mean, hell is from nyx perspective and from progagonists perspective, they are in hell, and you go back to surface by opening the door with your friends to leave it... but ur the one that looks behind
It’s because they’re in a metaphorical hell where the only way to go is up. If you include Greek mythology, threats to gods or the world are much higher as they have the will and drive to escape, which I’d assume is why it’s more dangerous upwards instead of downwards.
I love the feeling of hope in these songs just escalate from nothing in block 1 to “yup Minato’s gonna die by the end of this one way or another” by block 6
SPOILERS I absolutely adore how the theme of Tziah suddenly changes from the vigorous feeling of being at your peak to a terrifying uneasiness after October 4th. And then once Harabah hits it sounds noticeably more sour. Like none of your party members want to be there. It embeds this feeling of crushing dread and sorrow within your brain that you just can't seem to shake. Meguro is a genius
i find tartartus's theme chilling yet soothing, somewhat triumphant as it progresses. theres only one other song ive heard thats ever been able to capture the same feeling and it's literally meant to represent the feeling of your last moments in life. i suppose thats the message to be taken here; death is frightening but nothing to be afraid of
Meguro is a god. It's the only explanation I found. From Trauma Center to every Persona, he is able to convoy the feels that you need to feel in that moment.
I love P3 so much. Been a long road, 10 years have went by since I first played it, yet it still pops in my head from time to time. Forever my favorite game.
When ever I go into tartarus and there's a floor with less enemies and I hear fukka or mitsuru say "they have a bad feeling about this" you already know what's coming.
0:00: You arrive at the classroom and nervously sit down in your seat. You arrive five minutes early and have a moment to go over all that you've learned for the final exam you're taking. Some other students are talking about this final exam, but a majority of them seem to be just as nervous as you. 0:42: The teacher arrives and starts handing out the exam to each student. A silence befalls the room, and the only thing that can be heard is the teacher giving directions and the passing of papers. 1:25: The exam begins, and you start answering questions. Slowly, but surely, you manage to answer the questions at a comfortable pace and gain confidence. 2:39: The problems get harder and harder. You start to lose momentum. Your confidence is tested, and your nervousness from earlier starts coming back. You begin to wonder if you'll ever finish this exam on time. 4:26: As you rack your brain and get yourself together, the answers begin flowing back into your head. With this regained knowledge, you quickly gain your confidence and start working faster and smarter than before. Your confidence at this point has become unbreakable. 6:13: Your teacher tells the class they have 10 minutes left. However, this does not bother you one bit, for you are almost done. Pushing your knowledge to its absolute limits, you finish your final exam with complete faith in your answers. NOTE: I posted a comment like this in another video showcasing all of Tartarus's themes, but that got taken down. It's been a long time since I made that comment, and I felt it was necessary to recreate it here.

Note to self: never space out in Tartarus no matter what, unless you're on a boss floor or at the document floors. The reaper will demolish you no question if you're not close enough to the stairs. In my first run of P3P I remember I started focusing on something else while in Tartarus and I let the screen go black and when I got back to it we were fighting the reaper and I think the MC was the only one alive. The same thing happened more recently while I was playing FES, I left the screen on the options menu for the PS button thinking it would pause the game when I went to check something, I got back and we were fighting the reaper, not only that but after I fled from the fight I ran straight into it AGAIN. Damn the reaper is terrifying, one of these days I'm going to start hearing those chains in my nightmares.
Sometimes i like to imagine my hard days as Tartarus, each day of the month gets more and more harder and to motivate myself, i listen to the more intense ost, until the end of the month. Feels like i'm truly facing something and being determined to get things done! ^^
Imagine if Tartarus wasn't randomly generated and represented humanity and culture climbing to reach something they shouldn't. Seeing floors progress from old shrines to giant chapels to laboratories... Tartarus could be a tower of babel for humanity's faith and will to progress forward. That's what the demons represent - our stories throughout history. If Tartarus was the representation of the changing ideas and ideologies- it would be amazing
You can really feel the tranquility from the music as you wander the halls of Tartarus. When i first saw Tartarus in P3P i immediately thought, "Can i see the view from up there?" A few hours later, turns out i can't.
I don't why, but when I first played P3P about a year ago and first entered Tartartus, I felt a sense of nostalgia as if I've played this before, but this was my first ever experience with P3 as a whole
I wish you could teleport back to any floor and not just boss floors though, it's really annoying to have to go through floors again to get to where I left off.
the transition from 2 to 3 i forgot about so i freaked out for a sec like "did i rewind? did my earbud mess up?" and then i remembered that block 3 is weird

Me dio algo escuchando cada canción y ya es la tercera vez que pongo seguido el video. Good job, this video is so beautiful. The differences are soft, and you feel more and more focused on it when you feel that in the previous block, the ost was different. Simply awesome xD

This theme is easily unmatched against every other theme in any game. Persona 3(and Portable) soundtrack has the most unique soundtrack l ever heard in my life. It's truly unmatched.
Only OSTs that match it are the other Persona games imo
I mean the previous persona games like innocent sin for example had some themes that just hit you with the feels
I'd argue that Kimi No Kioku (Memories of You), Memories of the School, Memories of the City, and Living With Determination (both the regular and the "- Iwatodai Dorm Arrange -" version) matches it. And let's not forget Battle for Everyone's Souls.
In terms of other game OSTs Devil May Cry 3 is definitely up there in my list
I say any game Yoko Shimomura composed for tends to have a great OST. Bravely Default as well, and so many other games. Saying Persona has the best soundtrack compared to every other game ever is really closed minded.
can't help but compare the double strikes of the drums to heartbeats
probably a very much intended addition. You see it in many places to increase tension. My favourite example of this is in the PWT finals battle music from Pokemon Black/White 2
@@Nova-_- Giratina's theme from Platinum (my favorite theme in the series) does something similiar. It has the sound of a heart rate monitor flatline.
Rescuro An example I can think of is a track in Metroid Fusion that plays when the SA-X is in the same room as you but you haven’t been detected yet. As the theme is ominous and the footsteps of the SA-X echo, the heartbeat like sounds in the track add even more tension.
Everybody gangsta until The Reaper appears when you are farming for the first time and Junpei is the first to attack

@@akifashu yep, it's great
in block 1, the room is dark while in block 6 it's bright considering you give everything you have and make sure to fight nyx no matter how impossible it was and that's why i like tartarus, music theme is the complete journey, better than mementos
POV: You got asleep in school and when you woke up the school is closed
POV: A girl bullied you and locked you in the school gym for a "prank" and then you wake up in greek hell, with dangerous monsters roaming the halls.
Pov:HELP I AM BEING CHASED BY MULTIPLE BLACK GOOPS WITH MASKS IF YOU HEAR THIS HELP PLEASE
Block 1: Denial
Block 2: Anger
Block 3: Depression
Block 4: Bargaining
Block 5: Acceptance
Block 6: Transcendence
Nice comparison to the stages of grief.
I feel that block 2 and 3 could be switched
Isn't anger 2nd, then bargain, and then depression?
that would be more for interstice of time.
I feel like block 3 is depression seeing as it is more "quiet" like block 1 but still having a few extra instruments that appear on block 2.
It's sort of strange to me that tartarus is going upwards instead downwards because in greek mythology it is below the underworld
The tower is actually inversed since it came out of the ground during the dark hour
I think it's because Nyx descends upon the surface. She doesn't rise to it. And when you look at the description of the Greek Tartarus
, "Tartarus is the deepest part of the underworld, where the greatest threat to humanity and the gods would be imprisoned so they would never put fear in the hearts of humans again.
@Maaka Cross it cant go down due to the sands of time below it because of the p3 crew being unable to let go of the p3 mc
i think its just because hell is upwards, the true tartarus is in the sky and kaguya as nyx is bringing the upper hell to the higher ground... i mean, hell is from nyx perspective and from progagonists perspective, they are in hell, and you go back to surface by opening the door with your friends to leave it... but ur the one that looks behind
It’s because they’re in a metaphorical hell where the only way to go is up.
If you include Greek mythology, threats to gods or the world are much higher as they have the will and drive to escape, which I’d assume is why it’s more dangerous upwards instead of downwards.
Is it me, or does hearing the theme of Adamah after beating the game make me want to cry?

Once we reach the 6th block the world ends
I low-key hope that apathy syndrome become real and engulfs the world with it by the time we reach the final block
5th is August-November right?
Then the 6th block must be December, the final month.
And then, January will be the most depressive month of our lives

I love the feeling of hope in these songs just escalate from nothing in block 1 to “yup Minato’s gonna die by the end of this one way or another” by block 6
SPOILERS
I absolutely adore how the theme of Tziah suddenly changes from the vigorous feeling of being at your peak to a terrifying uneasiness after October 4th. And then once Harabah hits it sounds noticeably more sour. Like none of your party members want to be there. It embeds this feeling of crushing dread and sorrow within your brain that you just can't seem to shake. Meguro is a genius
i find tartartus's theme chilling yet soothing, somewhat triumphant as it progresses. theres only one other song ive heard thats ever been able to capture the same feeling and it's literally meant to represent the feeling of your last moments in life. i suppose thats the message to be taken here; death is frightening but nothing to be afraid of
Death is frightening but nothing to be afraid of is such a powerful line jesus
This has to be by far the most depressing dungeon theme i've ever listened to
I don't really think it's depressing. It's more of an ominous and melancholic, yet serene and calm at the same time.
Well P3 isn't called Depression: The Game for nothing so that fits.
More on the creepy end then depressing to me... something's just wrong.

In Greek mythology Tartarus is the deepest part of the underworld, where the greatest threat to humanity and the gods would be imprisoned so they would never put fear in the hearts of humans again. Though of course sometimes these monsters are known to escape every now and than, creating chaos in the depths of the underworld or if they are really powerful, the surface.
Sound familiar?
Mementos?
Sounds more like in game Mementos than in game Tartarus

That swell in intensity between blocks 4 and 5 has me levitatin’
This might be one of the coolest videos on this platform.
Goddamn, yes! I wish we got something like that
