Imagine heading out for a fun day sliding at your local track and next thing James Deane of all people, is patting your quarter panel like it’s a springer spaniel .... the pressure not to f**k up .. 😅😅
Welding the diff is absolutely the first step to drift on Lada :) Do not try to remove the diff from the case, only open the cover, unless you'll need to realign it with the special tools. Also try to cut 1 loop from front and rear suspension coils to drop the car and make it more stiff. I can recommend you to swap engine to injector 1.6L engine (engine model name 21067) just to forget about the carb issues. Since the factory designed it as an upgrade for classic carb engine it fits bolt-on, even the ECU wiring is separate from the old one. You'll need fuel piping, electric fuel pump, engine wiring. Used engine in Moscow costs only 300 euros, even with intake manifold! Brand new engine with all accessories (alternator, water pump, intake manifold, etc.) is 600 euros. Don't know how to deliver such a heavy things. Another modern way is to install 16v engine from FWD Ladas, it requires some extra parts and it will be a bit heavier, but you'll get 120hp NA engine. There is hydraulic power steering option from Niva (Lada 4x4), and electric power steering from modern FWD Ladas. Classical Ladas are so popular for drift because it's cheap here, in Russia. I mean it's really cheap. Tuned camshaft is 60 euros, used gearbox - 50 euros, LSD - 150 euros, 15 years old car is 500 euros. Just imagine: 4 pistons with oil rings are just 50 euros!

well james what an amazing present becky got you and what a beautiful thoughtfull lady you have in her. i should mind my own business but my thoughts on the lada are dont cut it up for a drift car it would be a shame its such a good example and you have plenty drift cars i would do a resto mod on it my spec would be mazda mx5 running gear lower it and a set of banded steels leave it that colour dont paint it wouldnt that be a lovely daily driver or weekend car that as becky said ye could both enjoy . 30 yrs ago i cut up a mint mk1 escort to make a rally car out of it one of my biggest regets in life a not so mint car would do the job perfect when it going to be torn apart. all the best from co cork.

(I live in Alberta Canada fyi) you are an amazing driver!! to just get into anything and be able to drift it is an amazing skill lol, especially rubbing tires in the first lap of a random car lmao!! love the hand smacks on the back end too.. i also had a Soarer just after high school with some BC racing coilovers and Work rims, was my favorite car. i wish i never sold it!
My mates dad put a Fiat Twin-Cam in a Lada Riva, the most smiles per miles of anything I've ever driven & all the bits were (at the time) plentiful & cheap as chips :-)

Для такой модели лада до сих пор в России производятся много запчастей, некоторые детали можно установить от модели "Нива", можно даже установить инжекторный мотор объемом 1.7 литров на 80 лошадиных сил. А модель "Нива" до сих пор производится серийно.

You should see what the Hungarian engineers made from this Lada for rally racing. It's awesome with two Webers or with injector. They make 150-190 hp.
