The “no stealing” and “napping everywhere” things are SUPER surprising. The only place I feel that happens in the U.S. is on college/university campuses. We’re all understanding how tiring it can be being a college/university student, and we also try not to disturb their peace. I know some of us actually watch out for those napping to make sure they don’t get robbed. Even if someone is making a quick trip to get some lunch and they leave their stuff in a spot to save a seat, no one tries to move it or steal it, typically, and some of us are making sure no one does move or steal it. The only time I feel these may occur outside an academic setting would be on train and airplane rides, especially if you’re in a train car or airplane that has mostly families in them. The parents are usually looking after their young kids making sure they don’t fuss or cause trouble with other passengers. But even if you feel safe about your surroundings, you should always be on the look out. You just never know when it could happen or where, and that’s typically when people will get you. Call it paranoia or anxiety, but it’s better to be prepared than to be caught off guard.

Thank you Mikan for making these helpful and nice videos. Much love from Sweden! Undra vad din pojkvän skulle tycka om surströmming, bara en idé ;)
Some of the time when you say Japan, you should really say Tokyo. Also individually wrapped bananas is a conbini thing, go to a supermarket and you can get a wrapped or unwrapped whole bunch just like in the UK
I'm hoping to become a English teacher and move to Japan one day and your videos have helped me a lot with research! Thanks so much for your hard work with these videos :)
In my country, people will even steal your pen you literally can't leave anything and you definitely can't nap in public transport you'll wake up without your bag
The reason that there is no bins in Japan or a lot of bins have been removed is because there was ones a sarin attack at the subway in tokyo, I think. I might be mistaken but the sarin was hidden in the bins and it also caused some people to pass away. That is why Japan has been very careful. Maybe just so people understand where this comes from.
For umbrella issues i recommend a compactable umbrella. They close to a very small size and they usually come with a perfectly shaped bag to store it in so u can put it in your purse or backpack without getting your things wet
The “no one steals and everyone trusts each other” thing reminds me a lot about Norway. Like I could no joke go on vacation for a week or so and not lock my apartment and come back to my house being just like I left it. Or if I drop something people will always pick it up and give it back. And if you go to the grocery store often you don’t rlly bother locking the car.
I used to live in japan, for four years, the food/fruits aren't as expensive as people think, it usually depends on the store, there are some cheap stores for food, like 'Yokomachi' or 'Powers U' but they aren't all over japan.
I am a foreign student from Hong Kong and I'm study in Japan too. In Japan, people are not used to eat on the street or while walking on the street, that's why there are so few bins cause they don't have to use them. When I first came to Japan I thought it was weird too lol
So in Japan (maybe in all of Asia idk I just resently learned this) fruits are seen as art a lot that's why there so exspensive and the extra wrapping is to protect them more.
I love hearing you talk about your life in Japan and going places. I'll probably never get to go but I feel as if I learn a lot from your charming videos! Keep it up!!!
You HAVE to consider the negatives if you want to move there. Japanese people for the most part are racist. They do not like foreigners. Trying to get an apartment or job in Japan as a foreigner is very difficult as they often discriminate. Some places like restaurants will not even let you in because you are a foreigner. Overwork (karoshi) culture is very prominent where people will work many many hours and die from overworking. Women are, in some cases, discriminated against as it is still a very male-dominated society. Women 25-30 are seen as old and expected to become a housewife. Sexual assault and groping are common and in some cases you will not be believed, ESPECIALLY as a foreigner, if you try to report it. If you don't know Japanese, trying to move there will be extremely difficult. Trying to move there and integrate into their culture which will likely be trying to push you out is very difficult. Japan is EXPENSIVE. Especially Tokyo or other main cities such as Osaka. Even if you try to live in the countryside, it's often more racist there. Also, anime is a very, veery small part of Japan. In Akihabara you'll find a ton but it's not too common anywhere else. Most people don't even watch it. Japan's culture of politeness is often to be nice to your face but judge you behind your back also. Also, what about your family? Friends? You will be completely alone and will need to make new ones which will be hard. That being said, Japan is a beautiful place but you need to be realistic and not go through a huge lifestyle change for "food, anime, and living in general"
The lack of bins really surprised me too because we were like, it’s so clean but there’s no bins where do people put the rubbish?! I love the convenience stores! Also I felt like Starbucks was everywhere in Tokyo like there was a Starbucks next to our hotel and then we could cross the road and go to another one!
The no bins is are really only a problem around Tokyo. I’m in Nagoya, and we have plenty. Osaka has them at stations also. As far as the bank goes... I think your bank is way too strict. Since my written Japanese is also bad, when I made errors in forms they let me strike through it twice and made a stamp next to it with my seal.
The bath tub that fills up by itself and the cute Japanese girl voice that sings out and tells you your bath is ready. (lived in Yokohama for 2 years, it was great!)
@@charmyykittyy We should totally chat about that you know. Not many people want to actually go to Japan. Like what subject do you want to study at college?

OMG When I went to Japan with my senior Japanese class, NO FREAKING TRASH BINS. I was shook. I came back to America with so much trash in my bags cause I didn’t know where to put it EVER Or I didn’t want to use my host families trash. I felt it was rude. I resonated with pretty much everything you listed, but one thing that had me shook was, even if you got to know someone pretty well NO ONE HUGS. I went to hug my host mom when I was leaving Japan and she was just like O--O and laughed afterwards but she was like really awkward about it and hugged me so loosely while i just squeezed her brains out and like we were both crying prior to the hug, and we were after. So many emotions leaving a family you have been with for weeks.
Bruh, my anxiety rises as soon as you step in the store and the shop worker approaches you and then you still end up buying something because you don't want to leave the shop empty handed😂😅
In UK the streets would be covered with ice, the slippery kind, and there was literally snow EVERYWHERE and we still didn’t get a day off school (this was in Manchester)
I really miss being in Japan. Everyone that has any interest in visiting should 100% save all the money they can to make it happen. Best vacation I’ve ever had.
You could also throw trash/rubbish away at conbini. Otherwise you're just taking it out twice; once taking it home and again taking it out on its proper day.
I live in Vietnam and two similarities I noticed are napping everywhere (love) and wrapping everything in plastic, taping it (hate)...i think the plastic wrapping in Vietnam insinuates fresh/ not used yet. You have a great attitude about your living abroad experience...
I try to do that one time, me and my boyfriend went to Tokyo, we went to Sanrio Puroland because I want to see Gudetama, we went to a restaurant and I leave my stuff there but so shocked that no one touches them or steal them, oh god I'm going to miss Japan. 😭

the reason why there aren't any trash bins is because, there was a problem with the mayor's office. there was a letter sent to the mayor with a bomb...yeah they don't want bombs in the trash bins do they...
Finally someone who mentions the plastic wrapping stuff! I haven't been in Japan but you can see it in soo many videos how much unnecessary plastic they use. I hope they'll change it
i went to japan for a holiday, it was truely amazing but tokyo is very overwhelming cause of the language barrier if you don’t speak japanese, i understood a lot of characters due to the fact that they use some chinese characters and i used to do chinese in school but it didn’t help me to know that a sign said that the miso cost 1500 yen bahahahahah also the no bins was so annoying cause of how they package every single thing with like 15 plastic wrappers
We have tons of party stores or liquor stores everywhere in the USA & also in the states we have people that greet you going into stores but no trash bins that’s nuts!
once while i was at the store this one dude asked me three time in 5 minutes if i needed help, i was freaked out... bc that doesnt usually happen where i live, if you need help you have to TRACK THEM DOWN and sometimes you have to wait for a manager or someone whos like not doing anything and has nothing to do to come and help you. idk man, it was a scary experience bc it as if he was jusy ALWAYS THERE.. oof

I remember watching these videos a lot in the past, love that I found this channel again
i was so tried while traveling in japan so i slept on metro several times, really nice
I'm a swed, dreaming about moving to Japan.
Your videos always lights my day up and keep me going! I wanna study in Japan in high school and I'm saving up for it.
Thank you Mikan for making these helpful and nice videos.
Much love from Sweden!
Undra vad din pojkvän skulle tycka om surströmming, bara en idé ;)
I become really a little fan of you, watching your videos improves my English soooo much. You are sympathetic and I love your voice :)!
300 yen for an apple in Tokyo?! oh no it's only 150yen in Osaka :0
That's still a lot tho lol
In my country, you can get 1kg apples for that.
300 yen for an apple? damn... We buy a kilo for that price.
OMG YES! I love this types of videos, thank you soo much❣️good luck in your fashion college 💞🍀
Some of the time when you say Japan, you should really say Tokyo. Also individually wrapped bananas is a conbini thing, go to a supermarket and you can get a wrapped or unwrapped whole bunch just like in the UK
And a plastic bag of donuts, in which each donut has its own tiny plastic bag.
I'm hoping to become a English teacher and move to Japan one day and your videos have helped me a lot with research! Thanks so much for your hard work with these videos :)
Your so pretty! I wish I could do makeup like u ! 私はあなたの大ファンです!
There is a spooky blanket moving behind you😂😂
I love you 😘 greetings from Mexico
In my country, people will even steal your pen you literally can't leave anything and you definitely can't nap in public transport you'll wake up without your bag
Random guess.....do you live in England?
Omg I love how he was sleeping behind you. You guys are so cute ❤️ these were such fun facts! Thanks for sharing Mikan!
Mika: you can nap anywhere and no one will steal your things
Me: okay I'm going to Japan
The reason that there is no bins in Japan or a lot of bins have been removed is because there was ones a sarin attack at the subway in tokyo, I think. I might be mistaken but the sarin was hidden in the bins and it also caused some people to pass away. That is why Japan has been very careful. Maybe just so people understand where this comes from.
I love how kind everyone is there. They have really beautiful hearts.
Omg!!!! I had that same experience at Japanese banks😂😂😂💀it’s such a pain really!!!!
Your/her voice is so soothing and you could honestly fall asleep listening to her
I can't fall asleep everywhere. I need silence and darkness, unless I'm dead tired.
Thanks for sharing. That was exciting to hear❤️😁
i love how when you said caramel latte, i was drinking one as you spoke lol.
Traveling to Japan is my DREAM and I'm so fascinated by everything there :) I loveeeee seeing new things !!!
When you say bin you mean trash can, right? (sorry, I don't speak British.. but your accent is very cute)
Haha yes sorry!!
Don't be sorry! I just wanted to clarify that bins were indeed trash cans lol.
When she said that I tought of an actual bin 😂
Yeah she means trash cans
Kat McElroy I actually screamed at you just calling British it’s OWN language 😂 I have actually never heard that before
You’re so cute and I can’t stop admiring your eyeliner 😍
You should come to America! In most cities you’ll find a Starbucks on every corner and a Walgreens (drug store) on every block
xomoonchildox kemp not anywhere I’ve been in America
you just described hell
Haha yeah, I wasn’t too surprised while hearing the convenience store thing, considering it’s the same where I live. What state are you from?
@@scoliosis_core2455 California originally but now I’m in Colorado
@@mikokosomos9498 Ohh cool. I’m from Massachusetts.
Very interesting, I always look forward to your uploads!
NOTHING CAN BE WIERD
WHEN MIKAN IS THERE
LOVE YOU MIKAN
THE SWEETEST GIRL I'VE EVER SEEN
So in Japan (maybe in all of Asia idk I just resently learned this) fruits are seen as art a lot that's why there so exspensive and the extra wrapping is to protect them more.
Ur so pretty and I love you're personality and the way u talk & everything aha 💗
I love hearing you talk about your life in Japan and going places. I'll probably never get to go but I feel as if I learn a lot from your charming videos! Keep it up!!!
i wanna live in japan when i grow up so badly 😭 for the food, anime, and living in general 😍✨💞

That being said, Japan is a beautiful place but you need to be realistic and not go through a huge lifestyle change for "food, anime, and living in general"
sh dp , girl saamee
Rae good place to travel .. bizarre place to live
Also store staff! I’ve NEVER felt like my patronage was so valued. Everyone stopping to thank you for your shopping before you leave. It’s nice.
Honestly, I just found your channel and your personality is so sweet. Watching your videos is oddly fun and comforting.
Mikan: they use so much plastic

The bath tub that fills up by itself and the cute Japanese girl voice that sings out and tells you your bath is ready. (lived in Yokohama for 2 years, it was great!)
I've always wanted to go to Japan but like I think I'll do college first. I'm 14 but ya know might be country homies lol :3
Memeo arts I want to go to college in Japan ^^ I'm also 14
@@charmyykittyy We should totally chat about that you know. Not many people want to actually go to Japan. Like what subject do you want to study at college?
Just talking from regret... There are a lot of high school transfer programs for like a year/ half a year wheee you just go to any country and study there for a short term. I wish I had done it. I’m 17 & graduating next year I’m hoping to go to Japan for 2 years after I graduate
@@mintblue aw that's a shame but your still a teenager and I think going to Japan is a cool option anyway whatever you do. Heck I'm going a course in college right now but when I'm 16 I'm straight off to Japan.
i want to study japanese in uni and then go to a uni in japan for two semesters after i finished school. i just love learning different languages and learning about other cultures. currently i'm 15 and i can't wait to finish school. :D (also i'm from germany, haha)
I honestly enjoy your videos so much, there is something about you that makes me want to listen to you all the time. :D
I just found you in my recommended😊so now, you have one more subscriber😁❤
In UK the streets would be covered with ice, the slippery kind, and there was literally snow EVERYWHERE and we still didn’t get a day off school (this was in Manchester)
Japanese: "steals umbrella"
Americans: *"Steals chiLd"*
I really miss being in Japan. Everyone that has any interest in visiting should 100% save all the money they can to make it happen. Best vacation I’ve ever had.
“You can nap anywhere!”
Yup. It’s official. I’m moving to Japan.
You still aren’t in Japan, aren’t you.
@@lucia-jl8it lmaooooooo
You could also throw trash/rubbish away at conbini. Otherwise you're just taking it out twice; once taking it home and again taking it out on its proper day.
Lmao well this is a good place for yoongi, He can nap anywhere 😂
Nadxz __ doesn't he already do that?
@@kazuhaforeverwin yh but in other countries he'll get robbed but in Japan he wont
Also yoon jeonghan can join yoongi when sleeping lol
i find it adorable 🥺
I live in Vietnam and two similarities I noticed are napping everywhere (love) and wrapping everything in plastic, taping it (hate)...i think the plastic wrapping in Vietnam insinuates fresh/ not used yet. You have a great attitude about your living abroad experience...
I.LOVE.HER.ACCENT!
Sorry for the irrelevant comment
I AGREE HER ACCENT IS AMAZING
Eyyyyyyy I’m from Sweden and I’m thinking abt moving to Japan bc I’ve always loved it
omg im actually early here dfghjk love you lots!! みかんMikan
Love watching your videos! They always make me so happy and inspired! 😊 Många kramar från Sverige 💕🇸🇪
I try to do that one time, me and my boyfriend went to Tokyo, we went to Sanrio Puroland because I want to see Gudetama, we went to a restaurant and I leave my stuff there but so shocked that no one touches them or steal them, oh god I'm going to miss Japan. 😭
I’m new to the channel but I just wanted to let you know that you’re super pretty and your makeup is great and also I love your accent aaaaah! I wish I had an accent like that. I also wished that I could pull off eyeliner so well without looking like an Egyptian diety
the reason why there aren't any trash bins is because, there was a problem with the mayor's office. there was a letter sent to the mayor with a bomb...yeah they don't want bombs in the trash bins do they...
Yaoyorozu_MOMO actually the reason is even bigger than that, it was from the gas bombs in public places left by a cult in the 90’s
Finally someone who mentions the plastic wrapping stuff! I haven't been in Japan but you can see it in soo many videos how much unnecessary plastic they use. I hope they'll change it
i went to japan for a holiday, it was truely amazing but tokyo is very overwhelming cause of the language barrier if you don’t speak japanese, i understood a lot of characters due to the fact that they use some chinese characters and i used to do chinese in school but it didn’t help me to know that a sign said that the miso cost 1500 yen bahahahahah
also the no bins was so annoying cause of how they package every single thing with like 15 plastic wrappers
We have tons of party stores or liquor stores everywhere in the USA & also in the states we have people that greet you going into stores but no trash bins that’s nuts!
once while i was at the store this one dude asked me three time in 5 minutes if i needed help, i was freaked out... bc that doesnt usually happen where i live, if you need help you have to TRACK THEM DOWN and sometimes you have to wait for a manager or someone whos like not doing anything and has nothing to do to come and help you. idk man, it was a scary experience bc it as if he was jusy ALWAYS THERE.. oof
Ahh I can’t wait to move to japan. These videos are actually really helpful and entertaining, I really learn a lot from them!
