      @johnnytower6169 ปีที่แล้ว +1

It’s particularly applicable to people who live in countries where firearms are less common, far more regulated and lacking in options regarding training. For instance in Australia you need to be a member of a club and compete to own a handgun. If you aren’t a professional shooter you can’t own a semi automatic long gun
As a hunter you can only own a bolt action, lever action or pump action rifle. Or a single/double barrel or lever/straight pull action shotgun
Furthermore you can only own a calibre that is suited to the game you wish to hunt, like a .22 for rabbits, .357 magnum for goats or a .308 for camels. You can’t own a firearm for self defence but there are situations where it may be legally acceptable to use one in that regard
Having a good understanding of the expansive range of firearms and their use and application is a good place to start if you want to gain ownership of one and this video is great

If you feel cheated because he gave 6 and the title says 10, here's four more:
    1. Always keep your firearm pointed in a safe direction, away from anything you're not comfortable destroying.
    2. Treat every firearm as loaded until you visually and manually verify it is not, even if the person handling it before you did exactly that.
    3. Do not put your finger on the trigger until you have the firearm pointed at something you're comfortable doing irreparable harm. (Mr. Harrell referenced this)
    4. Know what's behind your target.
If you're going to keep firearms, know these rules by heart. They will prevent the vast majority of negligent discharges.
Also, great video. I've been watching a lot of his stuff in the past few weeks and I find Mr. Harrell's voice rather calming.

@@joachimlarsen2k It's the related issues to the virus, in several locations the police have stated that they won't be showing up to "minor" calls.
What that means only the police know, but it means that people don't feel like they can trust that the police are going to be a simple phone call away, so they feel the need to arm themselves in case something occurs.
The majority of them are urban people who are used to police being all of five minutes or less away, and now the wait time is gonna be much longer. I'm a rural American so it's always been 10+ minutes for me, so this is nothing new, but it is for a lot of people now. So they go get a gun.
I just hope that they go to the range and practice a bit after they get theirs otherwise it won't be much good.

In the Gun Enthusiast Community , we are highly interested in these things , and in person , or print, or online we communicate , and self reinforce . We have to remember we are only a modest slice of the big pie . A substantial number of the total universe of " people who own a firearm " have one or two that at best have plinked or taken afield a time or two many years ago . At worst , it's been in the sock drawer or closet for 20yrs , and never fired .

one was an Uncle of mine who was extraordinarily good with a Lee-Enfield SMLE he'd bought after the war, just like the one he used in Service, and on the Company shooting team. For fun they'd shoot 1 foot square plates at 800 yards.
1 was a cousin of my dad's who possessed exceptional skill with a beaten-up Winchester '94 in .30-30 who was unusually proficient in knocking multiple whitetail deer down in succession as they ran through his favourite coulee as the dogs sent them through ( his record being 4 bucks with 4 shots at a bouncing run (( we thought he was in trouble firing a rapid signal)) but by the time we all ran there, he'd dragged all 4 together and was sitting on a fallen log having a smoke like nothing had happened...
and an old Copper worked Metro Division Toronto P.D. from Huntsville who carried an old Savage 99 in .300 Savage who could hit anything he wanted, any time he wanted, offhand, near or far. A box of 20 cartridges lasted him 5 years: 3 to sight in every year and 1 to drop his deer/ bear/ moose.
Those were men to respect for their skill, and definitely not to cross. It's not about limitations. It's about the skill to make a tool exceed it's designed purpose from specialization to multipurpose or beyond.

This presentation was one of your best by far. For a year or more leading up to my wife obtaining her concealed carry permit here in Texas, I tried in vain to "learn her" how to operate a semi auto in 380. The more I tried to get her familiar with the nomenclature of the firearm, the more confused she became at the range. She finally ask me one day, "don't they make a gun that all I have to do is pull the trigger?" We settled on a Ruger LCR in 38Sp. She is a decent shot at 7yds putting all 5 rds on target center mass. We went with the Ruger because there is no external hammer. She was afraid an exposed hammer might catch on something in the bottom of her purse. Her words, not mine. Just be careful about stuff "in the bottom of her purse." While it has a heavy trigger pull, it's not impossible for her to get something wedged such that the trigger could get pulled while retrieving the gun from her purse. I'd suggest (if she is not going to carry on-body) she get a concealed carry purse that has a separate compartment which holds the gun in place, with nothing else in that compartment. Cheers.

Mr Harrell: I discovered your channel just as beer was beginning to shift from a concern to a crisis and I've been binge-watching your considerable catalog ever since. I've commented on a few videos to say how much I (like everyone else here) really admire your knowledge and skill, your presentation style and dry wit, and the way you demonstrate high character with how you speak as much as with what you say. This particular presentation demonstrates those qualities in spades. Forgive my lack of brevity, but I want to tell you why I think this.
I am not and never have been a "firearms enthusiast" but I have owned guns since I was 12 (nine if you count my Daisy Cub). Uncles taught me to shoot .22s and shotguns and one gave me the .410 I shot my first (and only) pheasant with at 12. In the 70's working as a security guard I qualified with and carried a vintage S&W Model 10 5-inch, my first handgun. Through the 80's and 90's I gradually collected a medium-caliber rifle, 12 gauge pump and a Beretta 380. I occasionally went to ranges or out in the desert to plink with friends. But then marriage and family and life in general led me to hide everything away in the shop except for the pistol in the bedside table. So I am definitely not what'cha call a professional, but I know my way around a gun or two, even if I am exceedingly rusty.
I lost all those guns (including that .410) to the fire that destroyed almost all of Paradise, California and along with it, our house. Since resettling in Washington last spring I bought a new home-defense 20-gauge pump. I took it to a local range to practice and fell in with some great old trap shooters who let me try out my new Remington against the scourge of clay birds. Even though I could only take down 7 out of 25 at best, mostly out of sheer luck, I caught the bug and in the fall got myself a starter over-under 12. I was spending Tuesdays with these good old boys and was starting to learn how to "see bird, shoot bird" when the beer situation turned me into one of the "Pandemic Gun Buyers" for whom this presentation is intended. I had planned to rebuild my arsenal slowly, going to gun ranges with rentals and trying out a lot of models, especially handguns, since I am unfamiliar with modern products. I was in no hurry, thinking I had a year or so to mess around, study and make good, informed choices.
Then in March I became a panic buyer, although not a complete firearm neophyte. I finished my last purchase a week ago, and based on this presentation, I made good choices. But to the point - I have been watching a lot of videos from firearm "professionals" in the last few weeks and finding your channel was an eye-opener in more ways than one. Not only have I learned a metric butt-ton from you, but your style and demeanor have been refreshing and welcome. As I say, I have never been a firearms enthusiast. I see them as tools for protection or hunting or simple enjoyment of a skill. I enjoy practicing mind-body skills, but I'm too old now to go back to martial arts or disco dancing, so shooting trap is becoming my late-life skill hobby.
And I do believe firearms are, for some people like me, important to have for defense. I believe in homeowners insurance and a spare tire in the trunk as well. So, now that it's my turn to be a panic buyer, being offered your thoughts and experience in your inimitable style has been more valuable than gold or toilet paper. And perhaps most refreshing of all is your treatment of your viewers, myself now included, with respect and without bluster. I no longer watch other gun channels, nor will I unless you recommend one (I've watched a couple of Kentucky Patriot's, and I see why you recommend him). Everyone else seems to be flexing their muscles and beating their chests, treating firearms like fetish objects, arguing arcane minutia like medieval bible scholars and denigrating anyone who isn't preparing for World War Zombie.
To me, you are like those now long-dead uncles who explained the basics, put the gun in my hand and threw empty paint cans in the air to give me practice leading. You explain, you demonstrate, you spin out a few great yarns to illustrate a point, you tell jokes so dry I have to sip vermouth and in doing all that you exude respect for your audience. You demonstrate qualities I consider sorely lacking in the American general public and especially among those who tout themselves as experts in certain contentious topics, politics and firearms being two that seem to attract that most noxious of blowhards, the "Internet Influencer".
In short, thank you for being you, for doing what you do, and for doing that voodoo that you do so well.

For those new, or returning after 30+ years (like me, literally) - I'd consider picking up some inert training rounds called 'snap caps'. These can be used to safely conduct loading and handling drills without the use of live ammo if you don't have access to a range. I had a lot of training (too) many years ago, but was very rusty and found them helpful to restore long lost muscle memory. Training rounds do not replace live fire training, but are useful if you haven't been on the bicycle in a while.
I'd also consider thinking about the aftermath. The use of deadly force is serious business, so I'd recommend also looking at Massad Ayoob's channel for a sobering reality check. There are also other channels that cover the topic of 'what to expect when the law shows up'. I had considerable training in the use of deadly force and had very specific rules of engagement in the military. Civilian rules are not the same, so it is wise to educate yourself.

Granted. But the video is directed at those who 'didn't think it would happen'. Society has tried very hard to convince people they're 'protected' by the powers that wish to remain in power. Labeling prepared people as 'alarmist' and viewed as somehow dangerous because they're paranoid. To be fair, some are. Regardless, many are now facing a reality they've avoided. Since they are, finally, facing that reality, they need the tools to be effective. There's also nothing wrong with seeking training, and as you develop confidence and gain knowledge, realize those training you might not have either the focus, or the knowledge you now know you must have, and seek elsewhere to gain it. That happens in martial arts, and other self-defense pursuits. On another tangent, people are rapidly realizing they need skillsets they relied on others to have. Plumbing/carpentry/auto repair, the list goes on. That actually might be a silver lining. Nothing wrong with being competent.

Right? Sucks but its all to true. Most people who are trying to get into it now have enough trouble finding a firearm by itself, the real problem comes in the form of ammo acquisition. So many new gun owners now are unable to get enough ammo to learn how to use the new firearm they managed to get their hands on. Take the lessons from the past and start stocking up now. As bad as things are, a few months from now we will look back on this period fondly, wishing we had the access to resources that we have now. Cause it only goes downhill from here. Stock up. Tell your loved ones to stock up. Know your rights, know your local laws.

@@hyboirds1536 I heard that the prices will be jacked for next few years, esp for ammo. I hope that's not really the case.
I guess the manufacturer could always open more plants to increase production?
