All we need is to read To Kill a Mockingbird to see that man in Atticus Finch.
A 50 year old gentle man whom made no boast or brag about his years as an award winning marksman had need to pull out his old reliable when good honest people were threatened. The man held back until the very last second when it came to shooting a rabid dog, not because of inaction but because he truly felt anything on the other side of his gun deserved a fair shake.
Or, as its so wonderfully put in Dr. Who: Demons run when a good man goes to war.

      @@CovidLover I've met 3...
one was an Uncle of mine who was extraordinarily good with a Lee-Enfield SMLE he'd bought after the war, just like the one he used in Service, and on the Company shooting team. For fun they'd shoot 1 foot square plates at 800 yards.
1 was a cousin of my dad's who possessed exceptional skill with a beaten-up Winchester '94 in .30-30 who was unusually proficient in knocking multiple whitetail deer down in succession as they ran through his favourite coulee as the dogs sent them through ( his record being 4 bucks with 4 shots at a bouncing run (( we thought he was in trouble firing a rapid signal)) but by the time we all ran there, he'd dragged all 4 together and was sitting on a fallen log having a smoke like nothing had happened...
and an old Copper worked Metro Division Toronto P.D. from Huntsville who carried an old Savage 99 in .300 Savage who could hit anything he wanted, any time he wanted, offhand, near or far. A box of 20 cartridges lasted him 5 years: 3 to sight in every year and 1 to drop his deer/ bear/ moose.
Those were men to respect for their skill, and definitely not to cross. It's not about limitations. It's about the skill to make a tool exceed it's designed purpose from specialization to multipurpose or beyond.

For those new, or returning after 30+ years (like me, literally) - I'd consider picking up some inert training rounds called 'snap caps'. These can be used to safely conduct loading and handling drills without the use of live ammo if you don't have access to a range. I had a lot of training (too) many years ago, but was very rusty and found them helpful to restore long lost muscle memory. Training rounds do not replace live fire training, but are useful if you haven't been on the bicycle in a while.
I'd also consider thinking about the aftermath. The use of deadly force is serious business, so I'd recommend also looking at Massad Ayoob's channel for a sobering reality check. There are also other channels that cover the topic of 'what to expect when the law shows up'. I had considerable training in the use of deadly force and had very specific rules of engagement in the military. Civilian rules are not the same, so it is wise to educate yourself.
Great channel; compliments to the chef.

When I was working for a small Dept I would get calls from alarm companies for break ins. By the time I would get the call it may be over 30 minutes old. The alarm company would call the city that the address was in, but not really in that city. They would now be transferred to County SO, So would check the map and fine that the call was in the city that the call was transferred from. It would then be sent back the the original city. At about this time the dispatcher for that city will realize that the call is really in the small town that is next to their city. So the call goes back to County SO, now the SO checks to see if the small town has anyone out. They do all this while dispatching other calls for their depts. So the call to the small town is NOT a priority call for them. So it is easy to see why when seconds count I and my brothers and sisters are minutes away.

The content of your topic was pretty darned awesome, and your delivery was impeccable. I think this video should be required viewing for new gun owners. I'll share it. One thing that might need clarification is how the anti-gun folks misuse the term "auto" and how even though we call certain platforms an "auto loader", it still means "semi" auto. It may be more of a political issue than anything. I think everything you covered in this video was quite complete, so I'm not complaining, sir. I especially liked how you addressed the benefit of not firing all of your magazine and locking the slide back to save some time. Plus, it gives you one round of "insurance" in the event that you need to address another threat in the middle of reloading. Cannot wait to watch Part 2!

It's what I'm most comfortable with and, like I told my husband who wanted me to go for the .380, if I'm too scared to shoot it, it doesn't matter what caliber the bullet is. Of course, 4 weeks later and I'm firing his 9mm, but my Ruger is still more fun.

Generally speaking, run a cloth or paper towels down the barrel with you choice of gun oil, solvents, or synthetic motor oil until it shines and lubricate and clean out the action with the same materials. 2minutes for a breakaction, 2 hours for a black powder revolver. Every gun is a little different, but figuring out the breakdown and assembly is half the fun.

My best friend has a marlin just like that first one. His dad bought it for him when he was 17 and he used it a few times and it’s has a gun lock on it for 10 years! His mom has the key out of state which was long gone so he never used it. When I found out about it a year ago, i told him locks were $4 and I have a big pair of bolt cutters and that was his option so we did it that day! I go to the range with him all the time and it’s an amazing plinker. We only have 30 yards but it stacks them one on top of each other, I shoot it better than any gun I ever have. He’s glad he has it now!

I know I’m very late to the party but a good point with .22’s is the ammo you use. I’ve done comparisons with “soda jug” targets. Using ceebee or quiet rounds they have little effect, moving to standard rounds is a little more, mini mags do quite a lot. If you buy stingers or coppers you can have huge effect on the target
My point is not all ammo is equal, just be aware of what the purpose of the ammo is before you buy it

Paul, as a first time gun buyer last year, I wanted to express my gratitude for your youtube videos. They are a valuable resource for someone new to firearm ownership. As somebody majoring in Biology, I love the way you present the material and how you give practical advice. My whole family always refer to your videos as a resource. I was able to make educated decisions with the information presented at hand.
    Thank You,
    Kevin Udarbe

Paul has to be one of the best if not the best spoken civilian situational firearm defense training channels on TH-cam, period. Like a Glock trigger pull is the same every time, so is Paul's attitude and demeanor. Just remember, he is a trained professional. He has only good advice to offer, and some serious accuracy burned into his muscle memory. Also, Oregonians, are generally speaking fantastic people, I may be a little bias growing up in Washington with a lot of the family in Prineville Or.

No joke, I've been carrying a Glock 27 and 22 for 25 years have been feeling the urge to pull the trigger on a P320 ever since I bought my P365. The more and more I handle the Sig 9, the more I feel myself wanting to leave my Glocks. The ending of this video just nudged me over the edge. Luckily, I still have a source for one and I'm going with FDE color because... that's what Paul has. lol...
