Replacing the quarter panel and finding some hidden problems with the RAV4 build

  • This week it is time to get the quarter panel reattached to the Rav4 that we removed last time. It will make it to the paint and body gnomes after I reassure myself that I hate bodywork of any kind. Once it is back from paint it will be ready to reassemble so this quick build should be done, right? Not so fast, things never work like that in the rebuild world. A little problem causes a big repair that I will save for next time.

The quality of your work as well as your painting gnomes is extraordinary. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to buy a vehicle that you repaired. Thanks for sharing your repair process. It's really interesting to see the work that goes into these repairs. If only everyone did quality work like you do, life would be a lot easier.

      Kenneth James
The greater majority of people, as is my observation, cannot even pay attention
to detail in their writing ability. Almost all take shortcuts, I've instead of I have
We've instead of we have, you've instead of you have. Your instead of you're or you are
and so it goes. I sometimes wonder if these people ever had proper Toilette training.
That's why I keep a safe distance from them, and never shake their hand.
God knows where the hand has been.
In my profession, by training; Electronics and Electro-Mechanical Engineering, and over
20 years Military Service, 2 years on attachment to the USAF, and working on Military
aircraft, and other Mil/NASA projects, attention to detail is paramount.
Errors can and will eventually, sooner or later cost the loss of life.
It is unfortunate that errors have been made, and it is painful for everyone

Now we see why the RAV4 was totalled. It was the heater box fault that added so much to the repair cost that it went over the budget. Whoever replaces the quarter panel next time will see Mr Spotty's ghost there! See you next week, whatever you might be working on. All the best from Queensland Australia.

    • @vehcor
      @vehcor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

These things hold their value, even with the extra work it probably should not have been totaled. Some shops just find any reason they can to get out of work they deem too difficult. Best wishes from the USA!

Another action-packed episode of the trials and tribulations of a body tech accompanied by the humble Mr. Spotty. Nice work stitching up the rear section, all the plastic parts, and the diagnosis/presumption of the blend door malfunction in the HVAC system. I feel for ya, having to remove not only the heater box assembly but also the complete dash. Yikes, that's a video in itself, right? Work safe, enjoy your weekend, take care of Mr. Spottty so he can come back for the next adventure!

The heater blend door in my 2010 Impala kept stripping actuator drive gears until I discovered that the previous owner had spilled soda into the vent. After several rounds of alternating spritzing hot water and Windex into the vent, it finally started working without hesitation. I figured as long as I didn't outright pour water into it, it would dry itself out. It did. Whew!
