  • Last time we explored our newest build and pulled the entire drivetrain (some of which was in piles in the van). Now it is time to get our new engine mounted up to the trans and back in the little Promonster so we can stop pushing it everywhere.

I know you said you’re a mechanic, but I’ve gotten so used to seeing you do body work that is weird to see you take apart the drive train and put it back together, but enjoyed watching you work nonetheless. Always fun to watch another Vehcor video and it was fun to see Mr Spotty without the masking tape. Lol

It's the ZF TCM for the 9HP48 transmission. It's made in Greencourt for ZF and Chrysler make it under licence. Same transmission fundamentals are used in Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque. In the Land Rover applications, it pulls away in 2nd and uses 1st as a low gear off road. The Chrysler version pulls away in first and probably never sees 9th.

Since you are rebuilding this van, I'm sure it will be a better build than Dodge did. If....I mean when the trans goes out, Mr. Spotty will be there waiting to get out haha! We have 10 of these vans at work and they leak coolant, leak power steering fluid, don't shift well, a couple with sway bar/ball joint issues, and have noisy brakes. Good luck with the project. I've never seen this model of Ram in New Zealand. We have a surprising number of these on the road, usually as company cars, considering how much they cost. They start at NZ $94,000 to $122,000. The median income here is $53,000 and a Toyota Land Cruiser is about $70,000. So you can imagine at that price these are prestige cars and so are usually only bought buy companies to put their logo on.

I didn’t take the route you did for rebuild. I actually went ahead to reman the motor, broke the bell housing on install (no idea what happened) so I went ahead and did a full trans service as well. Took 2 months to get all the parts and work done… dumbest thing I’ve ever seen.

This "Ram" has brought the "Boring" in Boring Build Friday to new heights!!! You are the only thing that makes it most watch worthy. I had to drive one of these for a couple years and can attest to the "would not take it if they gave it to me" qualities of this P.O.S. I had to drive it like a go cart because of the horrible transmission lagging and pausing. Floorboard till you are up to speed and then let off. You definitely have to drive it like you assume it is going to quit on you at any moment.

Nice to have a spare parts promaster! And it runs already. No doubt Lots of leftover parts on this job! Threatening Mr spotty like that, isn't that some kind of abuse. Poor Mr Spotty! Lol.

You see the bolt hole that wasn’t round 13:46 on the flex plate, find that one start/tighten it first and you’re good to go.

Your videos are a good example of everything put together as it should be. I have seen a lot of other channels which seems to me they are slapping together a bunch of video shots without any sense of story telling basic technics or any beginning of process and the ending result of the job. Yours is a lot different and by different I mean really good. The only thing you can do is to edit them less and fit in to it some of the dramas that you really going through. After all in real life these kinds of jobs are not as hassle free as it seems in these videos. Again impressive videos.
