- In this video, I once again take you behind the scenes of my Distrokid account, as I upgrade from the Musician to the Musician Plus account.
The key features of the Musician Plus account are:
1. Daily streaming and purchase stats for Spotify and iTunes
2. Choose the release date of your song or album
3. Change the name of the record label to your own custom name
4. Change the amount charge per song or album in iTunes
5. Allow pre-orders of a track or album before release
6. Release under 2 different artist names

Good insights into what upgrading actually 'gets' you. Customizable release dates and being able to set track/album pricing is worth the upgrade price alone!
Agree Patrick. Compared to the costs of some of the others that charge per song/album, I like the unlimited option with Distrokid.

It’s probably worthwhile. Looking back now I’ve used quite a few of the features, particularly the price setting so I could sell my album for $10. And nice to know I have another artist name if I want to release under a different name in the future.

Hey! My husband has a musician's plus account. For some reason he is unable to add collaborations or type his artist name. It shows him as the artist twice and we are unsure what to do. We have tried to look it up but we are not receiving any information!

I had a terrible DistroKid experience. Apparently one of the stores rejected a song. They won’t tell me which song, which artist or why. They curtly said “you’ll need to find another distributor”. ???
My songs are pop and rock and are all professionally recorded and mastered. We own all the rights. There is simply no reason for this to happen. People love DistroKid’s price but please beware. There are other services out there.
Thanks for providing this feedback. It’s important to consider all the options and find what works for you. Personally, I haven’t ever had an issue with DistoKid so can only speak from personal experience, but like anything, it is always good to listen to a range of feedback when making a decision.

if you TH-cam this you should find a solution. I have seen a few videos explaining this in details
Just make sure you use your same unique artist name. DistroKid has a “Fixer” tool as well which can help you correct any artist name issues. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Question: When you check the boxes on which platforms you want it listed in, do you have to have accounts already registered on each particular platform? eg. itunes?
Hey there. No, and in fact there’s no way to register on a platform without releasing a song.
Once you submit a song under an artist name, the platform will create that artist name for you.

Hi there. It is two artists in total, so you will get just one more.

Hi there. So I haven’t actually added a second artist yet but will be soon. I’m imagining you can split out stats to see earnings from both however I would think the bank would be set up under your single entity.
So, there’s no way to have the “stats” button on the top screen bar at least you upgrade to Musician plus of higher???
Correct. You can see the “bank” to check streams and purchases that way, but the stats is only for Musician Plus.
How does one add another "side project" to the Upgraded account?

You just need to change the artist name when uploading your song to you new artist name.

Hey there. Yes, you can add additional artists as you progress and need them on the label account.

Hey I just wanted to Know about the TH-cam content I'd detection option I heard that it is not n you will not get the monetization if it is uploaded by some other person on TH-cam is it true?
Hey there. The way Content ID on TH-cam works is that if you upload to TH-cam and enable content ID, if someone else uses your song in their video and monetises the video, DistroKid will put a claim in on that video and collect any ad revenue from the video on your behalf. I have a video about this in the works which will be coming soon.

If you have three artist names you want to release under then you will need the “Label” plan. For individual tracks that have a featured artist you just add this to the track name.

Question if someone uses your music on Facebook do you get paid them streams as well. Say for instance if I uploaded my beat with a video on Facebook and get views is those considered streams and I get paid through distrokid as well.
Hey there. No, I don’t believe that Facebook have any monetisation for playbacks and streams.
Correct me if I'm wrong- One of the most important, overlooked feature of Musician Plus is that the artist is able to pitch their song to Spotify Curators which is otherwise not possible in the 'Musician' plan?
I didn’t actually know there was a specific feature through DistroKid for this? But if you mean that you can delay your release to give you time to promote, then yes.
Where do you find your second artist slot I upgraded but only see one artist profile

When you have the Musician Plus plan and you have 2 artists, does Distrokid have those 2 artists revenue/progress in the same place or will it be separated for each artist?
Not actually sure? Pretty sure you can separate them.

@@joan.paredes Hi, just type the name of the different artist in the release section, and the options will come up regarding if the artist have released on itunes or spotify before, choose no.. then continue doing the release as normal. After you've released the song, it will store the 2nd artist. Hope i explained properly 😅

Hey there. Thanks for watching and for your question. It depends on the platform, but in my experience it only takes around 2 days from when you upload until your song is available to stream or buy in most places. If you want a specific date you can set a release date if you have the “Musician Plus@ account.
So my usual process is to upload two days before I want the song available.
Pete, i already paid for a musician plus account in distrokid. But in my settings, i dont have the apple music profile update button... i just got spotify profile button. Should i upload my single to apple music and spotify first to be able to update my profile in that 2 platforms? Thanks
Hey there my friend. So, I haven’t released anything since my album so I will need to jump in and have a look. But yes, I’m pretty sure that popped up once I had started uploading via DistroKid so I would suggest uploading a track and it should link up your name on Apple.
Steven Official to update the apple music profile you need to go to Apple Music for Artists Beta and register, they've changed it up, before you could do it straight from distrokid

It should now allow you to do this for new releases? Try logging out and back in.

Hey there. This is an interesting question? Ow would imagine that you could remove your music from all stores (using your current name and account) and could then open a new account in he new name and close the old one? You could just add a new artist name and re-release too as you have suggested.
This might be more of a question for DistroKid so suggest reaching out to them.

Hey there. You just need to release the singles first individually and then release the whole album when you are ready for the whole thing to be released.

There’s no way to change your Astrid’s name apart from upgrading to the Musician Plus plan. You can try removing any music from stores and asking DistroKid to delete your artist name to start again but this is at their discretion. Otherwise you will need to create a new separate account.

If you upgrade within the first year they will pro rate the payment. After the first year, you’ll pay the full amount.

No, all songs will still be attributed to the artist name. Features will only show up on the titles.

Hi there. No, your second artist is part of your account. Is there any reason you want to separate it? I suggest starting a new second account if you need it separate for reporting purposes.

for 50k streams I only received 1.8 USD???? I have waited for 2-3 months for the delay in stores yet it still is less than 2dollars which, from my research is wrong because from my research Spotify alone pays around half a cent per stream so 1/2 cent X 30,000 (my Spotify streams) should be more than 150 dollars. any help????

@@PeteJohnsMusic Yes, on the stats on Spotify for artists on the distrokid website, in the last 365 days, i have around 31,000 streams on Spotify and around 20,000 on Apple music and all the others. My bank shows 1.8 dollars for some reason. When i see the excruciating detail, i can see that for one stream o get around 0.006 dollars but for 1,000 streams in a row i get 0.06 dollars (6 cents)
Seems a little off. You might need to query this with DistroKid directly.

If i get the musician plus, how soon do royalties and earnings come in and can I withdraw them daily as well? Or do i have to still wait 2-3 months like the cheaper plan?
All the plans have the same timeframes for payments as they are dependent upon the actual stores sending the details.
Therefore pretty much every distributor will have a similar payout timeframe of 2-3 months.
What if I have an artist on a beat I produce how do I add him even know he’s with a record label
So, you can add a featured artist in the title using the “feat.” wording suggested by DistroKid. Being with a record label shouldn’t matter ok this situation as long as you’re not using audio that has already been released by a label.

Hi there. Unfortunately due to the way information is passed on from the music streaming and retailing services, it’s not possible to get real time views and royalties. I don’t believe other providers offer this either. The “Musician Plus” account gives you slightly better stats, but there’s nothing that I know of that will give you more instant stats.

Hey there. When you upgrade to Musician Plus you will have an option when you release to choose the artist name between your original name and a new name.
hiya great video, there are a few questions i would like to know if you could help me!
1. when you upload a song, when you add the extras (youtube money, shazam and siri etc) do you pay this fee per song / album or is this a yearly payment for the whole of your songs?
2. if you don't want to select these extras there and then when uploading, can you go back later or and add them on or can you not add them ever again?
3. can you upload the files and artwork using an iphone / ipad or do you have to use a laptop?
4. if you release an EP / album, when you select the extras are they included for the whole of the album or per song on the album (if you had 9 songs on the album and selected the shazam extra for $0.99, would it end up costing you $9.99)?

So something I'm still a little unclear on... if you have the musician plus account and you share that with one other person, how can you have the revenue of a song sent directly to them? In teams, you can only add those who do not have a profile already and since we both share the same one we cannot divide? How does the splitting of revenue work when you share the same account as someone? Or am I misunderstanding how the sharing works?
Hey there. Yes, the sharing option assumes that you have your own account and your account is only used by one person, even if you use both of the artist names. You would need to manually calculate and distribute earnings on a second artist name if you choose to let someone else use this to release their music.

Just select the first artist or add a second artist when releasing. Then you can choose either artist for new releases.

One of you would need to sign up as Musician Plus and then manage the releases. You need to simply change the artist name when you release to make it the second artist.

Hi, I am interested into signing up for DistroKid, but I have a question that I couldn't find on the FAQ and forums.
If I pay for a year. What happens if I get signed to for example Spinnin Records after 6 months? Will I be able to release songs through Spinnin Records and make sure it gets on my Spotify Artist page? What happens if I stop publishing through Distrokid after 12 months? Will I keep my Spotify Artist page, because I also have songs on there that are being released through Spinnin Records?
Hey there. So this one gets a little complex. Record labels also need to use a distributor, so will release music on behalf of their artists using usually Tunecore, but may also use something like CD Baby or DistroKid. If you sign with a label it will depend on the deal as to whether you keep your music up under your own release or it is re-released by them. It will work either way. You can request the songs be removed through DistroKid and then have the label re-release them. And if you don’t renew your DistroKid account the songs will be removed anyway.
Sorry for the “it depends” answer but there are so many factors that impact this.
Spotify? You should be able to release as your verified account from a second platform as long as you select the same artist name.

Hey there. No, unfortunately you can't update already released songs, but you could choose to remove them from stores and re-upload with the new label name.
When I upload my music to distrokid, on the left side I have this yellow dot instead of a green dot, what does the yellow dot mean??
Hey there. Generally means it’s waiting to be approved. Will turn green when delivered to stores and you’ll get an email advising of this.

Hey there. No, you’re only on one plan at any time so when renewal comes around you’ll only pay for whatever plan you are on.
I have the musician plan and now need a musician plus - I signed up months ago, but didn't upload anything. I now only get a partial refund and will have to pay 35,99 USD. Wouldn't it be better to cancel the account, sign up again and not login? You will receive a 35% off welcome bonus.
If you wanted to. You’d need to cancel the frost plan and use a different email address. They will pro-rate the upgrade cost in the first year too.
How long does it take to get refund, after upgrading to higher distrokid plan

hello man. I purchased my distrokid 'musician' plan in september 2020. now i want to upgrade my plan to 'musician plus' version. The 'musician plus' package is $ 36. and it says that if I pay now, they will deposit $ 11.45 back into my account. What I am curious about is; If I buy this package now, will it be valid for 1 year from today (April 2022) or will it be valid until September 2021, as in my old plan?
I’m pretty sure the reason they pro rata it is so that it will be valid from the same start date as your original account.

Hey there. You need to ensure that all releases under that artist are removed, and then you will need to ask DistroKid to remove the artist name. To my knowledge there is no way to do this yourself.

If it’s not already released you should be able to completely abandon the release and re-submit.
How do I down grade to the $20 version.
why would you? They charge once a year right?
There’s an article over on DistoKid’s web site about this. I try to find it for you. Essentially it’s not really possible to downgrade as many of the features you get with the upgraded account would then still be in stores (custom label name, custom pricing etc)
You would likely need to cancel and then sign up again and resubmit.

It’s an automatic renewal of $19.99 per year unless you cancel your membership. (Which will result in your music being taken down).

In short, it seems that if you use the same meta data and ISRC from your original releases, your views etc should be maintained, though they don’t guarantee it.

Pete Johns Hi there. I'm uploading an album right now and I just came across with the fact that I can't add featurings as I could do with TuneCore. Distrokid says that I have to put them in the title, for example "*Track Name* (ft. David Bowie)
When uploading a song with features using TuneCore I could add the other artists on another section, not showing them in the main title but right under it.
Is there anyway to add featurings as TuneCore does? Thanks (sorry for my English)
Hey there. I’ve only released one song with a featured artist and I used the method Distrokid mention which is to put it in the title. You can also add in other meta data like performing artists, producers etc once the track is uploaded.

When you go to release, the Musician Plus account allows you to select your artist name, so nuts enter the new name there.

Im confused on the TH-cam thing. Is it mandatory that you have to pay the $5 per song for TH-cam to monitor the feed to see if someone is using your music. Cant this be opted out of?
Yes, so you can indeed release your song and NOT choose to enable Content ID, which is what I do for all my “Pete Johns” releases. Otherwise every time I played my own music in a tutorial, it would be flagged and the revenue would go back through the distributor, and back to me. There is a risk that others will use my music, but TH-cam actually have another free service where you can display any content from your videos which. May have been used by other people in their videos.
I think this would be a good topic for another video as I get a lot of questions about the whole TH-cam Content ID and copyright situation.
