É a mesma reação de surpresa que Fernanda Torres teve ao receber o Globo de Ouro. Ela sabe o que ela fez, e o quanto mereceu o prêmio. As a Brazilian, it was a pleasure to see Fernanda Torres and the International Film recognition, but seeing the Best Picture nomination was a shock. A pleasant and incredible surprise. It's a great day for Brazilian cinema, witnessing the story of our turbulent political past being told and recognized beyond our borders. We are still here! 🇧🇷 🇧🇷
It's going to be an interesting crowd when Gascon wins it. Face it, Hollywood is sending a message giving it 12 nominations, they're giving it a sweep as their way of fighting against Trump.
Emilia Perez, with 13 nominations (just one behind Titanic, All About Eve, and La La Land), is such a weird phenomenon this year. I'm sure if this movie had a CGI robot or cat, they would have also nominated it for Best Visual Effects and Best Animated Feature.
People were actually thinking about predicting it in VFX because most of the movie was green-screen lol. Almost predicted it until VES didn't go for it
I find it fascinating how unlike other years, it is the female acting categories that has stronger crossover with Best Picture than the male ones this time around. EVERY SINGLE female acting nominee is from a best Picture contender this year, while only 6 of the 10 among the male ones are this year.
It's so interesting to see people's shock at a Brazilian film competing... a Brazilian film, about the history of Brazil, and made by Brazilians. Can we say the same for Emilia?

The thing about "Emila Perez" is that everyone assumed it would be a movie to trigger Trump voters. In reality, all the bad stereotypes are probably something they would love.
@dariussalepetru6770 Perez is not winning, its got 30% Audience on Rotten Tomatoes & has been laughed by almost everyone under 65 Green Book, CODA, Crash were generally loved by audiences & even Crashs audience score is over 80!
@@franciscomello6083 okay cool? I wasn’t talking about Emilia Perez. The top comment said I’m Still Here is “the best nomination since they established 10 nominations system” and I refuted it. Idrgaf about Emilia Perez
@@franciscomello6083 yeah, and? Emilia Perez being shit in no way negates that I’m Still Here is undeserving too. There’s really no correlation between the two for this conversation, or any reason for it to be discussed. Both films shouldn’t be here. There are many films more deserving than both. End of story.
23:39 to me, it's quite the opposite. Emilia Perez represents colonialism: it's a latinx story told by gringo's pov and it's offensive. This is how most latinxs feel about this movie. Emilia Perez only makes sense as a "narrative" for naive north-americans. I'm Still Here is a movie that actually represents the terrors of a dictatorial political system that persecutes and exiles people based on a narrative of "national threat" (just like mexican immigrants are being treated in the USA rn). I'm Still Here represents our time (the rise of the far-right) much better than Emilia Perez. But we all know that this is not going to be recognized by the academy, so we're just wasting our breath
That's why Wicked is going to dominate. It's a very well respected and critically acclaimed film that The Academy clearly loves. It deals with both political sides and has powerful racial subtext that they can't resist. The balance of it all is what will allow it to win. The balance of comedy, drama, action and emotionally heavy themes of racism, anti-fascism and political distrust in misinformation are what will push it over the edge. It's also the one they want because of the fun and feel good nature of it all. It will win PGA, dominate many awards bodies and drive itself to Best picture because it's like the election. The radical idealism of the left is what will force voters away from EP and towards Wicked because it represents something similar like Trump. Wicked is Trump and will win the Oscars. It's a guaranteed win for Wicked because of how much support of both Actress there was and how SAG loves it so much they will have it win Ensemble too. Let me know what you think.
can’t help but notice that these guys have been underestimating ‘i’m still here’ since the beginning of their award season coverage. we, brazilians, know that we’ve been making a lot of noise out there and that it influences on the movie’s visibility but it’s not for show, we’re truly proud of this movie and know it has the capability to compete with hollywood’s big ones. it’s the biggest oscar campaign of brazil’s history and we’re living a huge moment for nacional cinema.

Fernanda Torres winning Best Actress would be unprecedented, giving her absence at SAG, but still, I'm Still Here's nomination for Best Picture is unprecedented. She has a real shot at winning.
Also: Emilia Pérez might lose International Feature due to the current backlash against it internationally and I'm Still Here's momentum. Keep an eye on it.
All she has is the globe tho. Which Demi Moore has too.
9 วันที่ผ่านมา +9
Sorry, not happening. The Substance has Picture, Director, Script and Makeup. They already faced off at the Globes and Demi’s win and speech dominated the conversation, not Torres winning.
I'm not saying she'll win, I'm saying one would be naïve not to entertain the possibility. I'm Still Here's nomination is an anomaly, and as Cole said, Torres dragged the film to that 10th slot. Torres IS the film, it exists around her performance. The same cannot be said about Demi Moore in The Substance. Liking it or not, I'm Still Here is the film that benefited the most from its nomination for Best Picture. A lot of people will catch up on it now (it has just opened in cinemas in the US, with great reviews and solid box office results). Plus, one should not undermine the current internationalization of the Academy. Oh, and there's something else: her performance is really that fucking good. The real race has just begun, and there's a lot to come down.
I think people are focusing too much on the fact that Fernanda Torres wasn’t nominated for other awards. The point is: "I`m Still Here" hadn’t been released outside Brazil by the time voting closed for those other awards. Torres and Moore delivered the two best performances of the year, and the competition will be between them-especially with *I’m Still Here* competing for Best Picture. And let’s be honest, the SAG Awards are 100% American . No international actress is ever nominated. It’s the least relevant award of all.
When I found out that literally EVERY year has a Golden Globe Drama Actress winner go on to be nominated for an Oscar, Torres was my number 5. It’s shocking how much that stat has maintained for 82 years.
Will the hype for Torres remain when Demi starts winning all these awards that Torres was never nominated for? The Oscar's isn't until March, so it's still gonna be an uphill battle for Torres.
Several Oscar records were set as a result of these nominations (let me know if there is more): - At 13 nominations, EMILIA PEREZ is now officially the most Oscar-nominated non-English language film of all time, surpassing CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON and ROMA for the record (both got 10 each). It also marks the first time ever that a non-English language film is the solo nominations leader in a given year (ROMA was tied with THE FAVOURITE back in 2018). - This year marks the 2nd year in a row that more than 1 non-English language film made the Best Picture lineup (I'M STILL HERE and EMILIA PEREZ). Last year saw 3 (PAST LIVES, THE ZONE OF INTEREST, and ANATOMY OF A FALL). I'M STILL HERE becomes the first Brazilian film ever nominated for Best Picture as well, and it also marks the first time ever that 2 films are nominated for BOTH International Feature and Best Picture in the same year. - Timothee Chalamet becomes only the 8th ever male actor to receive at least 2 acting Oscar nominations before age 30, after Mickey Rooney, Marlon Brando, Richard Burton, Sal Mineo, James Dean, Edward Norton, and Heath Ledger. Ledger and Dean both achieved this feat posthumously, and would've been under 30 had they lived to see their 2nd nom. If Chalamet wins (which is looking VERY likely now), he will surpass Adrien Brody as the youngest ever winner for Best Actor (who is funnily enough nominated this year, so it'll be a symbolic "passing of the torch" of sorts). - Thanks to her nomination for CONCLAVE, Isabella Rossellini now becomes only the 4th actor or actress ever to be Oscar-nominated herself after BOTH parents have been nominated, after Liza Minnelli, Laura Dern, and Jamie Lee Curtis. She is also the first non-American to achieve this particular feat. - Fernanda Torres becomes only the 2nd Brazilian to be nominated for an acting Oscar, after her mom Fernanda Montenegro. They join Ingrid Bergman/Isabella Rossellini to become only the 3rd and 4th pairs of non-American parent/child duos respectively to both be nominated for acting (Michael Redgrave and his 2 daughters Vanessa and Lynn Redgrave are the first 2 sets of duos). - Cynthia Erivo becomes the first ever non-American Black woman to receive 2 acting Oscar nominations, and only the 2nd Black woman overall to receive 2 nominations in Lead Actress (after Viola Davis). If she wins, she will be the fastest person to achieve the EGOT status. - This year marks the first time since 1995 that every single Best Director nominee is a first time nominee in that category (that year saw Mel Gibson win the Oscar for BRAVEHEART). - Karla Sofia Gascon becomes the first ever transgender performer to be nominated for acting at the Oscars. - If my memory serves me correctly, Sebastian Stan is the first person to be nominated for playing the incumbent President.
It also has the highest combined best picture nominee runtime of any year with 1499 minutes, and it’s the first time where two nominees are the children of previous nominees- rosselini and Torres
If Chalamet does win, it will also be the second time a person has won an Oscar for playing an Oscar-winner (previously achieved by Cate Blanchett’s performance as Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator). Which funny enough Blanchett has ALSO been nominated for playing as Bob Dylan in “I’m Not There”.
@@Little1Cave Actually Renne Zellweger is technically the 2nd person to do it thanks to her 2nd Oscar-winning role in JUDY. While Judy Garland never won a competitive Oscar, she did get an honorary juvenile one.
September 5 has the weirdest collection of nominations I have ever seen: - Golden Globe - Best Drama - Critics Choice - Original Screenplay, Editing - Absolutely nothing at SAG and BAFTA, did not even make any BAFTA longlist - PGA - Oscars - Original Screenplay
No wonder people don't watch award shows anymore. The fact that Emilia Perez is being nominated for this many categories is absolutely disgusting. A giant spit in the face to the hundreds of other more deserving films.
I've got 10/10 in Best Picture. So proud that my country got that happiness 🇧🇷. The sad parts were in Screenplay: Challengers missing Original and I'm Still Here missing Adapted (even if it won Venice).
I think it's a bit ignorant to say I'm Still Here is oscarbait. The Hollywood awards season wasn't even in the wildest dreams of anyone in the production. Brazilian cinema is EXTREMELY undervalued, even nationally. I don't think the movie was made with any serious expectations of getting into the awards. Walter Salles (the director) is a personal friend of the family portrait in the movie, he even went to their house as a kid multiple times. I think the movie was made more for bringing awarness to the story in Brazil, as we have a lot of people who deny this ever happened, then anything else.
"Nickel Boys" and 2022's "Women Talking" are two films from Amazon MGM / Orion Pictures that got two noms for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.
I think Demi Moore will win Best Actress, the Substance will win Best Hair and Make-Up. Poor Things/Emma Stone, The Whale/Brendan Fraser, Jessica Chastain/The Eyes of Tammy Faye….
Glad to be with the 3% of people that predicted I’m Still here for best picture. A great day for Brazilian cinema. Just two quick points. I think the backlash will affect Emilia Perez actually winning chances and you guys are really underestimating Anora and Mikey.
I think lead actress is the closest category this year. Everyone there had a pretty exceptional performance and have a good narrative to win as well. It's not just Mikey they have to look out for, it could be pretty much any of them if we're being honest.
Boy, i know all of us want to believe that, but it's getting harder Every day to support it. EVERY Award just so freaking thrilled with Emília Perez, and Oscars gave It 13 nominations! I'm starting to think they really dont care about the blackash, and that it's going nowhere, unless It REALLY gets bigger with time. BUT, being in best picture is phenomenal for i'm still here and I don't dismiss it winning international feature. Maybe a the power of the dog/CODA situation is about to happen
I'm Brazilian and I'm very happy for the recognition that I'm Still Here is gaining around the world. A true story that, far from raising a political flag, deals with universal elements such as family, love, resilience and, mainly, missing those we love. Congratulations on the content and success to the channel
I haven't even seen I'm Still Here & I'm still extatic. Hearing Brazil's love for that film & the genuine passion they have for that film is heartwarming. As much as I wanna see my faves get in, I wanna see the Academy do their own thing more often! I also wanted to see them snub Emilia- yk what I'm gonna keep this comment positive.
The film may not touch you as it does Latin Americans, especially us Brazilians, because we lived through the dictatorship and studied it so that it doesn't happen again. Still, expect a film that portrays the love of a Brazilian family, the complicity and especially the pain of absence. We don't have plot twists, scenes of screaming or caricatured crying, but brilliant direction and acting that awakens anguish, "saudades", a Brazilian word that speaks of a universal feeling about missing someone. Watch "I'm Still Here", a beautiful and sensitive Brazilian production.
I think it's because they added a whole and very long new segment to One Short Day for Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth's cameo. That is entirely original to the film. It's not in the stage show.
The love for Fernanda torres is growing. People are loving her. Brazil is pushing very hard for her She has a great narrative, her mum was nominated many years ago for central station Demi moore doesnt have the oscar in the bag.
Demi has the best actress + best make up package, the substance has ATL support with nominations in best director and best screenplay. Also she's gonna keep the momentum going if she wins at critics, bafta, sag.
At least I feel that if Torres was snubbed, at least Demi Moore would be a worthy winner; unlike how her mother was snubbed for Gwyneth Paltrow back in 1998
@@dasmysteryman12 well everyone knows gwyneth's win was daylight robbery bc of harvey's campaign. Demi would be an great and exciting (rare recognition for a horror performance) win. I think Torres has it very difficult with the other best actress contenders showing up and having the chance to do a speech a critics, sag and bafta, and most of the international bloc going for emilia perez
Nominations-wise, Brutalist's showing is just as strong as EP. The 3 categories that EP got over Brutalist are nods that Brutalist is not eligible for, 2 songs and Foreign Language. So I say they're neck and neck.
I want it to be that I'm Still Here getting into Best Picture means that there's a chance it beats Emilia Perez for International Film... imagine... just imagine
If the voting period had been extended for at least one more week I'm Still Here would've gotten Screenplay too. I do think it has a chance at upseting EP at International.
These nominations all but assured that Zoe Saldana is winning at the very least. In fact, with the sole exception of THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON, any film that got at least 12 Oscar nominations won at least 1 above-the-line Oscar. Zoe’s category is the most logical place for the stat to pan out.
@@George_Nakhle but its rare right? How many movie got the hype for award when its early release? So rare, and the thing is EEAAO is such a unique movie, and release in different time internationaly, unlike dune who release full internationaly at the sametime, so when it come to award season, the hype is just gone already, and also its a sequel so people also aware for the next chapter, i believe if Dune part two release in november, it will get tons of nomination, even the acting nomination is very possible, Its just dont get the hype anymore in award season,
Denis not being nominated for best director is a disappointing thing, then Dune also not getting nominations for sound, film editing and makeup & hairstyle is just unacceptable
Is the National Board of Review the biggest jinx? I feel bad for all their winners. Daniel Craig won for Best Actor; Nicole Kidman won for Best Actress; Elle Fanning won for Supporting Actress; Jon M. Chu won for Best Director, and Mike Leigh won for Original Screenplay. And none of these 5 received an Oscar nomination!
I’m Still Here is more than a film-it is a sensory and emotional experience that resonates deep within the soul. Walter Salles, with his delicate visual signature and profoundly human storytelling, takes us on a journey of memory, belonging, and rediscovery. The camera glides gently through the spaces of the story, capturing not just faces but silences, restrained gestures, and glances filled with meaning beyond words. The protagonist, marked by time and the scars of life, returns to a past that still pulses within him, trying to rebuild himself from the fragments of who he once was. Every scene in I’m Still Here carries a quiet, beautiful melancholy-a visual poetry that reminds us that to be present is, at times, an act of resistance. With an ethereal soundtrack and deeply moving performances, the film does more than tell a story-it makes us feel every beat of it. This is cinema that touches, transforms, and reminds us that despite loss, distance, and time, something within us will always remain. Hats off to Salles 👏👏👏👏👏 Congrats 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I’m Still Here DESERVES to win best foreign movie! And I’m optimistic that more people will watch since it was nominated for BEST PICTURE (yes, HISTORY WAS MADR HERE)!! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
I think Sony pictures classics is truly a force in last minute campaigning. I’m Still Here, The Father, Pain and Glory, Parallel Mothers. When they see even the slightest opportunity they strike real hard.
Actually, it has happened a few times where actors have won an Oscar without being nominated for a SAG or BAFTA. It happened with Marcia Gay Harden in 2000 and Adrien Brody in 2002. Fernanda Torres can indeed win this Oscar without other precursors, especially now that I'm Still Here surprisingly made it into Best Picture!
WOOOHOOO!!!!! I will admit, the moment I got the notification I clicked it. I even stopped watching another reaction just because I've been waiting the whole day for this, it's just gone 1 am here 😅 Very happy for Wicked 💚💗💎🐐
I know that from the list of the nominees I'm Still Here is clearly the least watched, but take a look at rotten tomatoes and IMDb scores, it's currently the highest rated one. If people and critics had given it more attention before it would surely habe more nominations
Only 7 horror movies have ever been nominated for best picture Exorcist, Jaws, Silence of the Lambs, Sixth Sense, Black Swan, Get Out and the substance
I’M STILL HERE nomination for best picture is easily the biggest shock in years. A film with absolutely no precursors nomination: no Golden Globe, no Critics Choice, no BAFTA, no SAG, no NBR, no PGA, nothing. And still made the final cut. This is the proof that Fernanda Torres winning at GG gave the film the visibility and momentum, and the extended days of voting due to the fires in LA helped as well. Amazing. I’m still shock. 🇧🇷🙌🏻
Wow was pleasantly surprised by Flow's International nom! It's definitely well deserved - one of the best animated movies that I've seen in recent years. My Score predictions were 4/5; I had Wicked in there for score, too. And I had Maria in there as the cinematography outlier. (So happy for all of the Wicked noms and I predicted a lot of those, too- omgosh The Brutalist and Wicked seem to be neck and neck). Oh my, Emilia Perez -13 noms! (i had it predicted for international, actresses, and director of course, but didn't anticipate this many!) I had Sing Sing in there for actor and screenplay, and I also had the songs by H.E.R. and Elton John in my predictions. (I was right with others too , but my comment is too long). Quite a surprise with I'm Still Here!
I cannot believe Wicked got nominated for best original score. The only times it ever stood out to me is when I would recognize a theme incorporated from the original musical soundtrack.
Walter Salles is a very talented director, this is true! However it is important to know he is from “Moreira Salles” family, the owners of Itaú Bank, the biggest Bank of Brasil. One of the richiest family of Brazil… He is something like Júlia Louis Dreyfuss or Francis Fischer in US. So money was not a problem for the campaign even of talent also wasnt.

The thing about "Emila Perez" is that everyone assumed it would be a movie to trigger Trump voters.
In reality, all the bad stereotypes are probably something they would love.
@dariussalepetru6770 Perez is not winning, its got 30% Audience on Rotten Tomatoes & has been laughed by almost everyone under 65
Green Book, CODA, Crash were generally loved by audiences & even Crashs audience score is over 80!
Emila Perez got 13 & will get maximum 2 maybe 3 wins
Anora is winning!

I am Still Here is the best nomination since they stablished 10 nominations system. Greetings to Brazil!
lol come on, it’s not even a top 5 film nominated this year
@@Lamidemonami7891 Emilia Perez isn't either and received 13 nominations lol
@@franciscomello6083 okay cool? I wasn’t talking about Emilia Perez. The top comment said I’m Still Here is “the best nomination since they established 10 nominations system” and I refuted it. Idrgaf about Emilia Perez
@ I AM talking about Emilia Perez. A film with 13 nominations should be the best of all this year and we know that's not true.
I’m Still Here is the performance of a lifetime guys. That’s why. It’s really good.
THANK YOU! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Funny how it seemed like a locked up win for Mikey Madison up until the Golden Globes and now she's in the middle or even bottom of the pack.
When I found out that literally EVERY year has a Golden Globe Drama Actress winner go on to be nominated for an Oscar, Torres was my number 5. It’s shocking how much that stat has maintained for 82 years.
NO there are plenty international actresses nominated at SAG: Marion Cotillard, Diane Kruger...
Will the hype for Torres remain when Demi starts winning all these awards that Torres was never nominated for? The Oscar's isn't until March, so it's still gonna be an uphill battle for Torres.
@wentaoma211 Not Plenty. Only these two and one more that I can`t recall now.
Several Oscar records were set as a result of these nominations (let me know if there is more):
- At 13 nominations, EMILIA PEREZ is now officially the most Oscar-nominated non-English language film of all time, surpassing CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON and ROMA for the record (both got 10 each).
Very interesting. Thank you. 🙂
It also has the highest combined best picture nominee runtime of any year with 1499 minutes, and it’s the first time where two nominees are the children of previous nominees- rosselini and Torres
Your memory is spot-on with that Sebastian Stan fact. That’s insane. Lol
September 5 has the weirdest collection of nominations I have ever seen:
- Golden Globe - Best Drama

I’m never doubting you Brazilians EVER AGAIN!!! Congrats to your country on all the nominations!!! 🥳🥳🥳
I told you guys in the comments like a billion times that “Im still here” would get many noms and best picture included.
Emilia Perez getting so many nominations is just a joke !
They’re kinda awful at Oscar campaigns
This is the timestam you're looking for 12:31

Glad to be with the 3% of people that predicted I’m Still here for best picture. A great day for Brazilian cinema. Just two quick points. I think the backlash will affect Emilia Perez actually winning chances and you guys are really underestimating Anora and Mikey.
It's hard to tell without more precursors.
I am not a Brazilian and I'm Still Here is my favorite movie this year, you have to watch it.
@ChagasAmanda Nope, I am not Brazilian and touched me the same, it is a very human film.

Please explain how Wicked gets nominated for Score but Dune 2 gets disqualified for not being original enough?
I think it's because they added a whole and very long new segment to One Short Day for Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth's cameo. That is entirely original to the film. It's not in the stage show.

Demi moore doesnt have the oscar in the bag.

And none of these 5 received an Oscar nomination!
They are usually useless
Hats off to Salles 👏👏👏👏👏

Agree, they really lean into the respect and legacy that their lead actors have
