@@shawn-etv306 I have a LP Junior, I love it. It's a 2015, I got it when they were blowing them out for dirt cheap. I ditched the robo-tuners, put a Tusq nut on it and covered up that god awful sig on the headstock with a sticker. It's a great guitar.

That was literally the shittiest guitar I've ever owned....and my first guitar was a Lotus Strat copy. The Epiphone Junior would not stay in tune for more than a few strums, it was completely unplayable. I ended up giving it to a coworker.

I think maybe 1% of the people that know of him takes "Dr. Epiphone" seriously....Virtually nobody...He's not even meant to be taken seriously but rather a sort of novelty. He can accurately tell you about the specs on each guitar...That's it.

For something that people are making such a big deal about you'd think they'd want to show a real nice close up shot of both the front and back. But after a quick review of the video, there's not a single close up shot of anything in the whole video. In fact it doesn't look as if the camera man used the zoom in anyway at all. It has the same perspective and keeps the same distance through out. But still, if I were that Gibson rep I would have stuck that headstock right in the camera and gave every one a real good up close view. Kind of shame he didn't, but oh well.
@@whatyoumakeofit6635 go look at the epiphone website, they're not clipped on the sides like the old ones are. They don't stick out nearly as high as the Gibson's wings but they still have an edge now. Far better looking and more accurate to Gibson.
Still wont stop people buying Chibsons Gibson really need to use the original openbook headstock like on the 90s MIJ Epiphones. Even Tokai have gone back to the openbook with their new Legacy range.
I am. I'll buy one now. I do own an Epiphone Wildkat Royale in Chicago Blue Pearl, with the "New Kalamazoo Headstock". I like it a lot, but I HATE HATE HATE the clipped ear Epi headstock and would not have bought the Wildkat had it come with that abomination. The Epi clipped-ear headstock is clearly a Gibson headstock that has been PURPOSEFULLY SCREWED UP for the sole purpose of reinforcing the fact that it's NOT A GIBSON!!!
Me too. I've been looking for a clear shot of one and I think I've seen them in some pics but I honestly can't tell that much of a difference because the pics are so small. You'd think since they're pushing the new headstock shape so hard that they'd actually show it to people.
Nice to see Gibson/Epiphone getting back to what made them great in the first place. The thing is, pretty much all guitars are made on CNC machines now so they can get the fit and finish of the high end vintage pieces and keep the price point affordable.
It's not doubled, but it's increased by 50 - 100 dollars at most. But, I mean, look at that 59 standard... Look at that studio.. I'd pay for one... Just bring me one to Peru XD

I traded a 1976 MGB Roadster for my 2008 Gibson Les Paul Standard AAA Flamed Maple top in Iced Tea Burst. THANK YOU for the white SG standard! Back when I visited thomann for the first time (about 10-15 years ago), I walked into the guitar department and on the balcony there were a bunch of SGs. One of them was an Alpine White SG standard with the big pickguard and it immediatly caught my eye. I was a drummer back then, visiting with a friend who played guitar, so I disn't know anything about it, but it has been stuck in my head since. I started playing guitar 6 years ago, and every year at NAMM i hoped either Gibson or Epiphone would release that guitar. Also checked eBay/Reverb every once in a while bu no luck. I guess it wasn't very popular. I'm not really a Gibskn fan, I'm more into Jackson and ESP (K love modern Vs), but I just preordered that SG! Can't wait

I got a Pro Plustop a few weeks ago and was close to having buyer's remorse but I'm fine now. I will admit the Pau Ferro neck makes it look a bit odd, and I like the new more matte coating a lot more... But I'm good.

It may not be for sale to the public yet. I remember last NAMM there was a Danelectro guitar I wanted to buy, it wasn’t available to the public for a few months after NAMM. Not sure if it’s the same situation with these or not
Jason Allen and somehow they’ve put the price tag so high on guitars that play worse than my 2 Epiphone customs that I don’t think I’d consider buying from them anytime soon.

I've owned 3 Epiphones, a Viola bass, a Masterbilt acoustic and a Jr. The Viola bass was OK but rickety as all get out....the Masterbilt is a good guitar....not great....but good for an intermediate acoustic. The Jr was literally the worst guitar I've ever played. It wouldn't stay in tune for anything. I've played a few other Epiphones that belonged to friends and they were OK for what they were. I don't remember them being great or being junk, they were just lesser copies of Gibsons. Meanwhile my 88 Gibson Custom is great, it's starting to turn a nice yellow from age, I absolutely love it. My Gibson Jr and my 95 Classic are great guitars too. The 95 has the best neck on any guitar I've ever owned. My Midtown Custom is pretty good too and certainly better than any Epiphone I've ever played. I've got a 93 Classic basket case that I'm working on too and although it looks like hell it's got a great neck on it too and will be a good player when I'm done. No Epiphone I've ever played was anywhere near my Gibsons. See...I can use anecdotal evidence too.
The LP Custom actually look like they made the body the right thickness this time maybe. The Epi's were always a bit thin, but comparing it to he jack plate this may be the right depth (hard to tell in the video). I think the new head stock with the multi-ply binding looks even more authentic, and with the ebony board it does look a lot more like its big brother.
I just bought a custom pro in July and I saw the new custom pro and I must say the new custom pro headstock looks really good compared to the new regular epiphone headstock and these new epiphones look really nice
Well, having & having had a number of Gibsons as well as a few Epiphones, I've always liked the regular "old-style" Epi Headstocks (w/"clipped" Ears) & wondered why they didn't do it on the Gibsons. Actually for me, they are both Artistically Cool.
The ONLY thing I disliked about an epiphone was the clipped ears of the headstock. I love the open book of Gibson’s and this makes me happy. I would take one any day. Love that Caribbean blue fade too! Kudos Epiphone!
Their new range looks spectacular, and having the LP and SG look more in line with the Gibson models they were modeled after is something they should have done decades ago. Fantastic stuff. That being said it's kind of weird how they suddenly killed a their low-range stuff, along with the artist models. I'm sure they'll return, though.
Competition in the low end market is high these days, it's hard to beat Harley Benton's price/quality ratio. So it makes sense for Epi to try 'almost a Gibson' approach, which other brands cant do because of copyrights
I agree with you about that. The Fender Squire kind of meets that bar with classic vibe models, but the new epi models seem to hit the Gibson spot a little more.
I used to attend NAMM shows, until it became a car salesman show. I felt if I went to a musical instrument dealer convention, I would be treated like I knew something about their products. It's like attending a huge guitar center.

They used to be made literally right next to Gibsons before production was shipped overseas. It’s not an independent company, it’s Gibson’s budget brand. If you say “Epiphone is stepping it up” you’re really just saying Gibson has stepped it up.

The LP Custom withers white binding looked the best. That headstock shape is great, and pops even better with binding

The new headstock is a nice change. No crazy string splay angles that can cause unnecessary tension at the nut on the d and g strings.

Meanwhile my 88 Gibson Custom is great, it's starting to turn a nice yellow from age, I absolutely love it. My Gibson Jr and my 95 Classic are great guitars too. The 95 has the best neck on any guitar I've ever owned. My Midtown Custom is pretty good too and certainly better than any Epiphone I've ever played.
I've got a 93 Classic basket case that I'm working on too and although it looks like hell it's got a great neck on it too and will be a good player when I'm done.
No Epiphone I've ever played was anywhere near my Gibsons.
See...I can use anecdotal evidence too.

The LP Custom actually look like they made the body the right thickness this time maybe. The Epi's were always a bit thin, but comparing it to he jack plate this may be the right depth (hard to tell in the video). I think the new head stock with the multi-ply binding looks even more authentic, and with the ebony board it does look a lot more like its big brother.
I just bought a custom pro in July and I saw the new custom pro and I must say the new custom pro headstock looks really good compared to the new regular epiphone headstock and these new epiphones look really nice
i would like to see the junior in some other finishes

Well, having & having had a number of Gibsons as well as a few Epiphones, I've always liked the regular "old-style" Epi Headstocks (w/"clipped" Ears) & wondered why they didn't do it on the Gibsons. Actually for me, they are both Artistically Cool.
Why would they put an Epiphone headstock on a Gibson?

The ONLY thing I disliked about an epiphone was the clipped ears of the headstock. I love the open book of Gibson’s and this makes me happy. I would take one any day. Love that Caribbean blue fade too! Kudos Epiphone!

Their new range looks spectacular, and having the LP and SG look more in line with the Gibson models they were modeled after is something they should have done decades ago. Fantastic stuff.
That being said it's kind of weird how they suddenly killed a their low-range stuff, along with the artist models. I'm sure they'll return, though.
Competition in the low end market is high these days, it's hard to beat Harley Benton's price/quality ratio. So it makes sense for Epi to try 'almost a Gibson' approach, which other brands cant do because of copyrights
I agree with you about that. The Fender Squire kind of meets that bar with classic vibe models, but the new epi models seem to hit the Gibson spot a little more.

I used to attend NAMM shows, until it became a car salesman show. I felt if I went to a musical instrument dealer convention, I would be treated like I knew something about their products. It's like attending a huge guitar center.

@@michaeldbalance No it’s not….it’s a brand name Gibson uses. It’s the same company. Almost all Epiphone models sold were designed by Gibson. They used to be made literally right next to Gibsons before production was shipped overseas.
It’s not an independent company, it’s Gibson’s budget brand. If you say “Epiphone is stepping it up” you’re really just saying Gibson has stepped it up.

Epiphone hasn’t been a real company since……it’s a brand name for Gibson’s budget line.
While everyone fusses about headstock and Gibson font, Epiphone put a maple cap on their Les Pauls and nobody mentions it...

The early Gibson SGs had P90s. I have a Gibson catalogue from 1962 with P90 equipped SGs in it so it's perfectly legit.
