It’s true that KDSS limits some aftermarket options and if you’re going to do major suspension modifications you might not want to to get it. However, it does function similarly to a sway bar disconnect system in that allows the sway bar to move while driving slowly off-road. So you get better articulation off road and a bigger and more effective sway bar on road. If you’re only doing limited mods to suspension KDSS is actually better on AND off road… but it can limit your options depending what you want to do. There are great videos that show why it gives superior articulation on other channels.
I recently purchased a TRD Off Road Premium with KDSS. 90% road driving 10% climbing the mountain to the cabin. It suits what I do quite well! Good overview....thanks.
KDSS is only available on the OR trim, not PRO. One is for low speed off road (KDSS artculation), the pro is for high speed off road (fox shocks). Check your manual.
I’ve had 5 gen 5’s already. 3 with KDSS , 1 Pro , and a 23 Trd orp without. At the moment I have a stock trail edition 2016 with kdss and a 23 trd orp without. (Yes I specifically ordered it without) because I have a Eibach suspension going in it (soon). I’ve driven the 23 stock for 10k miles to date. If I bought another 5th Gen I probably would buy it without. It’s a nice system but I really don’t want to spend the $1850.00 for that option~or~a $5-6,000 to replace it if it breaks. I drive BOTH of these daily and really don’t notice much of a difference.
Thanks for clearly showing how to identify! I’ve had both and when I did have it I couldn’t find a clear video of how to tell. This should help people immensely! 🤘
I think you are underestimating KDSS as you are looking at droop on the lift. Compress the driver side and you will see the passenger side drop more. It acts a bit like a solid axle in regards to articulation. It's great for on the road driving and rock crawling, but 4 high is the difficult area and why it's an option.
Whats the average life span of the KDSS ? Is it similar to the xreas suspension on the 4runner limited where if it fails its going to cost 4000+ to replace ?
@@yotaxpedition You should mention its only available on the OR and ORP trim, not Pro, which is a huge misconception. Most people really would benefit more from the KDSS then the mid tier fox shocks on the Pro, which also gives you an ok JBL head unit and dual zone climate for 10k more. The TRD-ORP with KDSS is the way to go unless you jump your 4Runner.
Will I be able to install a full king suspension on a kdss system?? I am looking a 2024 trd off-road limited and it has KDSS. The one on the lot has it.
Better off without it, nice for road driving, and crawling really slow speeds. Anything inbetween it's terrible, can kick in while driving on dirt roads, washboards, ect and send insanely rough hits into the cab.Insane repair costs and lowers the front clearance by about 2 full inches.

Finally someone literally pointed it out, thank you 😊
Great video to show what KDSS components look like. I don't have it on my 4Runner, so didn't even know what to look for. Now I do.
Glad it helped!

What does KDSS do for the On Road driving experience?
@@jneidow6730😂 you nailed it, this guy has no idea what he’s talking about
@@jneidow6730 My bad. I meant TRD ORP.
This is literally a perfect video to explain that one particular thing. Thank you very much.
Glad it was helpful!

5 5th gens already? lol. Thanks for the feedback though.
I have a 2023 ORP and actually preferred the ride of the non kdss.
Can I have one?
Lol you're insane can't trust you
Thanks for the feedback as o have been on the fence about KDSS.

Great Video, I agree with someone that finally knows what they are talking about and explained it perfectly.

Great video! Freaking simple right to the point and great explanation love it!
Thanks! Glad you liked it.

kdss is god
Great clip thank you ORP with pro skid plate. Just added a set of K03s

I dont have KDSS but I do have a fuse for it in the cabin. Why do I have this and what is this for if I dont have KDSS?
KDSS limits you on selection of certain options. an example is the 4Runner TRD Pro skid plate. Won't fit the KDSS suspension unless it's modified.
Correct, but if you order a TRD PRO skid plate from us for a KDSS model we modify them in house before we ship them.
Konetic?
What kind of front metal bumper is that on the white 4Runner?
That is the Lo Pro bumper from C4 fab. We have a couple videos on it!
I could not find the modified skid plate for a trd off road with KDSS in your website.
yotaxpedition.com/products/oem-trd-skid-plate There is a drop down option for KDSS
Just got my 2023 TRD OFF ROAD with KDSS and i will be ordering this skid plate from you guys! 💯
It's the same skid plate but with the sides cut out with a ban saw so the sway bar doesn't hit those folded sides
Why did Toyota opt not to put the KDSS on the PRO? Arguably the most off road capable sold out of the factory?
I'm not sure. I personally prefer with out.
That was Hawaii footage in the beginning
Sick!...That bar is FAT!
Dont need it and glad i didn't have to pay extra for it
