Non-stick cookware is TOXIC - here’s why

  • PFAS forever chemicals, found in non-stick cookware (including Teflon), are toxic to humans, animals and the environment. Stop buying them! Use these options instead (cast iron, enamelled cast iron, stainless steel, and glass (like pyrex). PFAS are found in lots of other consumer products.

      Thanks Richard. Unfortunately, I've got a long list of other dodgy chemicals and endocrine disruptors for future videos!

    All-Clad stainless steel fry pans - with a little fat in the pan, more non-stick than teflon pans.

    Thank you for this information. I'm aware of the toxins in our food, water, air, cleaning products, toiletries etc, etc but not about PFA's found in cooking pans so your advice is gratefully received.

      Glad it was useful. Toxins in basically everything man-made unfortunately. Everything is guilty until proven innocent for me.

      @@drphilipbosanquet Agreed! That's why I now make my toiletries, creams etc and home cleaning products all chemical free. Now if only the 'powers that be' who blame us for the state of our beautiful planet would stop producing everything that's actually destroying it. Fat chance!
      Thanks again for this information and highlighting toxic products. God bless

      Good call. It was never as good as advertised anyway right? And you had to baby it just to avoid eating half the coating.

    I avoid stainless steel because my husband is allergic to nickel and stainless steel contains nickel. I fear that it might leach into acidic foods like tomato based sauces.

      Interesting. I did go down a bit of a rabbit hole researching stainless steel and I know some people have other concerns too. Very hard to be certain about even this IMO.

      Yes, if you cook acidic foods like tomato dishes, you will taste the metal. Have to use enamel, not sure if that is safe though.

    Always too late when this comes to surface. We've all got that in side our body, 90% human on this planet already has it. Profits already made and continues to out of the end result. Just pop that pill in to make it better.

      Yup, this and hundreds of other chemicals in our food chain and water supply. My plan is not give them any more of my money and minimise any 'convenient' goods invented in the last hundred years or so, since they are probably just as bad.

    I have been arguing about a coating which has come off a baking tray in my air fryer after a couple of months as I know Teflon is problematic but all they have done is send a replacement. I have got nowhere

    • @drphilipbosanquet
      @drphilipbosanquet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nightmare, I hate that sort of scenario, clearly just need a refund but they'll keep replacing over and over since it's cheaper for them to replace it 10 times (and the new coating is 'safe and effective').

    I've been using stone pans for years, do you have information on their safety? SS has problems as mentioned elsewhere in your comments.

    I've been wanting to replace my teflon pan with cast iron.. I've heard about it being toxic..
    If I understand right, PFAS is fluoride based chemicals, yes? So I read people can remove fluoride from the body by taking iodine and iodide ( and co-factors like selenium), because they've apparently been adding fluoride to municipal water in many area's, which they did supposedly to protect our teeth, but its apparently a very damaging neurotoxin which causes cancer etc.. Same with bromide, which they've added to bread products instrad of iodine, but the bromide is also toxic and pushes out iodine.. So people are trying to remove fluoride and bromide and metals by using iodine protocols, so maybe that would help with PFAS aswell.

    • @drphilipbosanquet
      @drphilipbosanquet  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, PFAS chemicals have carbon-fluorine bonds, though I'm unsure if these act in anyway like the fluoride they add to tap water (like sodium fluoride). Flouride intake in tap water is linked to thyroid disease (which would make sense with what you're saying about iodine, since it would displace it) and lower IQ. Lots of people use reverse osmosis to purify their tap water to avoid all these problems, though you do need to remineralise it properly afterwards. Did not know that about bromide and bread! When I looked it up it seems potassium bromate is a banned food additive in the UK (maybe why I'd not heard about it) but is permitted in the US!

    What do you think of ceramic?

    • @drphilipbosanquet
      @drphilipbosanquet  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As far as I can tell, the term 'ceramic' seems to cover many different types of products, and it's very hard to pin down with any certainty what is in each one. For example, 'ceramic' and 'ceramic-coated' can mean different things. Ceramic cookware sometimes uses sol-gel, which releases silicone oil to create the non-stick surface. And many ceramic cookware products have coatings that seem to be very hard to ascertain detail on - which immediately makes me suspicious! I really want to know what I'm cooking on, so I personally avoid. And why I didn't want to recommend in the video. What do you reckon?

    • @bgood1532
      @bgood1532 ปีที่แล้ว

      @lowtechlifestylemedic I've been hearing and reading that many companies (like caraway) claim they are 100% non toxic and are free of PTFE, PFAS, and PFOA, as well as lead, cadmium, and toxic metals. They are way more expensive, so hoping this is true.😉

    • @drphilipbosanquet
      @drphilipbosanquet  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, they will say what's not in them, but unclear on what is in them. Certainly assume/hope it's not anything near as bad as PFAS though!

    I am finding it very hard to find 100% stainless steel pots/pans to cook with and can only find stainless steel pans with aluminium sandwiched between 2 layers of stainless steel. Does anyone know of a good quality 100% stainless steel pots/pans brand in the UK? Are the pots/pans with sandwiched aluminium ok to use or is it best to avoid them?

    • @drphilipbosanquet
      @drphilipbosanquet  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't know if that is a problem or not. I run on the hope that it can't be worse than teflon and other similar non-stick cookware, but I've not looked into sandwiched aluminium.
