Nothing is scarier than childhood neglect, honestly. This game did a good job of making me feel a really weird dread in the beginning and sadness for the sister.
@@guhrizzlybaire I just found out from another video explaining this, it's actually based on the "sugamo child abandonment incident" in Japan in the 80s... Horrifying. A movie called Nobody Knows is made on it.
My sisters and I saw messed up stuff in our own childhoods. Parents were divorced, and the "incubator" wasn't allowed to take any of us kids on vacation anymore when she abandoned me in Kansas in 2000. I almost wound up in the foster system, if Dad and Gramps hadn't rushed from many states over to bring me home. Too bad Dad still kept hooking up with messed up people us kids had to endure, when forced to live with them. I'm still confused on some days that I even managed to survive this long, with a lot of the BS the sisters and I went through. Was impossible not to smile with the boy when karma bit his abusive mom in the ass.
Chillas Art makes a game like every 2to 3 months and you know how many people are buying them when they aren’t truly good games at all and very basic ideas! @@cameronm6336even if the ideas are basic it doesn’t mean people can’t like them? It touches on real world topics that almost anyone can face so it’s relatable in that way, just let people enjoy what they like
I just found out this is loosely based on the "sugamo child abandonment incident" in Japan from the 80s, with a movie called 'nobody knows'. I found from gamer Sault video on this. I'm enthralled. My favorite game of theirs so far.
I love the contrast between the two adults, especially the mom and the mister. The mom verbally abused the kids, wants them gone in the beginning and has severe anger issues while the mister, who looks like a stranger, was just forced in the kidnapping position by the sister, has no intention in harming the kids and tries to keep his composure before finally loses his s**t by the mom in the end.
The attic ghost was definitely a reference to the Grudge/Ju On series. the ghostly pale hand leading you to the attic, the trash bags, the body in the bag - heck even the battery could have been a reference to the Grudge video game from Wii!
There was a comment here who said maybe the corpse in the attic was mister's mom. There was a note that said his mom abused him. Chris said maybe you play as mister as a kid at the beginning and he was hit by his mom. Mister lashed out at the kids' mom so he might have lashed out at his mom too. He seems to be unstable because of his mom's abuse.
I really love the quick glimpses we get of the mom packing her bag and exiting through the front door with her suitcase. Its so fast and makes it that much worse she just abandons them with no fanfare
This one really stands out among the collection thus far. There's a lot of attention to detail in this one that those unfamiliar with abuse would easily miss. For example, incontinence (especially bedwetting) is one of the key signs of abuse in children, but a lot of games about abuse don't think to include it. Then you have the interactions between the kids at school, which actually did a good job of illustrating the awkwardness among kids of that age. Add to that the protagonist's imagination, with stories about a clown kidnapper causing you to imagine a clown stalking you and tormenting you in your dream. Finally, you have the abusive mother, who makes it clear she objectified her own kids and ends up paying the ultimate price for her arrogance. But something else Chilla did really well here is to show three distinct outcomes of abuse. Mister was physically abused because he reminded his mother of his father. The abuse was bad enough that he remained mentally regressed after killing his mother in self-defense. He hid the body in the attic but never recovered from the trauma of what he'd done. In the end, his childlike innocence led him to help your sister with her kidnapping scheme and eventually take another life when your mother caused him to have a flashback. The regression type is very common, as regressing allows one to escape back into a form of innocence, but many victims who go down this path never fully recover, even with years of therapy. Your sister shows a different outcome of abuse. Feeling unloved, the victim will resort to any means necessary to force the abuser to show affection or will even seek negative attention in the case of neglect. We hear her being told she was a mistake, that she should never have been born. One can only imagine how many times she's heard this. In the end, she took advantage of Mister's innocence to stage a double kidnapping. This type of abuse victim tends to be highly manipulative, and she boasts about how Mister does anything she wants. She even goes as far as to become a threat to you because she wants to be the one your mother can't live without. If you escape, then your mother may be content hugging you and forget she even existed. But in the end, your mother is killed (or at least is severely injured, that's left a little open-ended) and your sister breaks down, realising she just lost the one chance she had to make your mother care about her. Finally, you, the protagonist, show a third outcome. The trauma runs deep to the point of bedwetting and imagining monsters out to get you. There's a sense of real paranoia. You even back down when asked to steal, justifying that you need food - but in reality, you're afraid of what will happen if you say no. In the end, seeing your mother get what's coming to her excites you. This type of victim is the one that becomes the abuser, continuing the cycle once they discover that they can give out all the pain and suffering they themselves have felt. One last thing I loved about this is how your friend's mother is so gentle and understanding about Mister. She no doubt knows he's regressed and means no harm, and asks you and your sister to leave HIM alone, not the other way around. This was a beautiful touch and really made her more believable, even though we never actually meet her. And at the very end, there's the possibility your mother's dead - but also the possibility she's still alive. Mister struck her once in the head with a hammer (the same one he used to kill his own mother, which is another nice touch), which could easily be non-fatal, depending on where he struck and how hard. But even if she lives, the damage to all is done. No matter how you look at it, the one true victim in this whole game is actually Mister. He has the mind of a child and was forced to kill his own mother in self-defense. Your sister takes advantage of his innocence, manipulating him into doing something bad. This eventually causes your own abusive mother to strike him, making him once again lash out in self-defense. The amount of guilt and mental damage inflicted upon Mister throughout is horrific, even though we (the protagonist) don't notice. And it seems only your friend's mother cares about Mister enough to try and protect him. The lack of UNDERSTANDING support for abuse survivors is very real, and most modern approaches to abuse end up being abusive in their own right. All in all an excellent addition to the Chilla's Art collection and definitely one of the deepest psychologically. Even if some of the other games have more suspense or action to them, this is easily in my Top 3.
OK, Mister wasn't directly dangerous - he wasn't going out of his way to kill people. However, he wasn't stable at all, so he had the potential to lash out at people in the same way he lashed out at the abusive mother in the opening part (hence the ending).
Body bags and bloody rags althroughout his house and youre gonna say he wasnt directly dangerous? 😂 I would say he maybe empathized with the kids and wasnt intent on hurting him but it was very likely he was still very dangerous. Either way its not an environment to grow up in
Oh, what an EXCELLENT game. I always love well done games that tap into the fear of being a child and having to deal with terrible situations on your own. And a lot of this is terrible and horrifying not even because of the usual horror stuff, at first! It's just something that's mundane and tragic: being a child abandoned, struggling to deal with life all on your own when you're far too young to do so. That rather dark ending almost seems like a matter of course. The surreal clown nightmare segment also made a lot of sense to me. i remember having similar nightmares about losing my parents when I was young, and I didn't even have that kind of trauma behind it. Chilla nails it all yet again.
Well, Chilla is certainly not afraid to push their art to the next level. This study of the circle of abuse is actually very astute and perceptive. Generational abuse produces traumatised kids and thats portrayed really well with 'Mister' and the main character. With Misters murder of his Mother, and the main character finding happiness in the death of his Mother, its really well illustrated by Chilla. The Sisters misplaced love for the Mother was heartbreaking. Great atmospherics as always, great use of colour palette, music, audio, all comes together to make a very bleak, very unsettling game. Loved CJU's commentary, and watching him try to take care of all these kids was very sweet. Had to giggle at CJU's attempt to impress his female friend with sharing his chips... woo hoo... ;) Geat game, great playthrough,..thank you Chris.

I love you CJU, but I've never been more pissed off than when you took too long to decide where to go on the bike, THEN ran straight back to the house when the Mister KNEW you lived there! xD Never fail to entertain.
The jump scares in this is spot on and comes in so naturally with the game, they really did scare me each time. And I like how this games portrays multiple different outcome of child abuse too. One of my favourites Chilla's Art game.
i really liked this one alot, its up there in the list of top 3 by them, the story was sad and dark, kids had a sad, unloving home, so sister did something crazy just to get mom to love them again, but she still didnt, and the ending showed the boys fear and hatred to there abusive, unloving mother, its sad kids in our world go threw this type of household everyday, and i loved how the game showed this in alot of ways, and stranger danger etc. very well done game!
Yeah, the ending had such a morbid catharsis to it. Went through my own mess, growing up, so all the more reason I could sympathize with the boy when the abusive mom was finally "gone for good."
I like this "game within a game" trend within their games. I wonder if it's because they really want to branch out into different kinds of games but don't feel like they can get out of their "established" kind of game?
This was perfect timing. I’m very sick and have been in the process of moving and selling the old house. It’s been a lot. Your videos are so relaxing to me. I hope everyone is doing well 😃. Say hi and how your doing below if you want.
I know laws are different in Japan, but why the hell were the kids just handed right back to their mother? Why wasn’t she questioned and scrutinised as to where the hell she’d been, and why she abandoned them? It’s certainly a Chilla’s Art game. Also, Chris, you’re a child, playing hide-and-seek, you see a male stranger watching you, and the first thing you do is walk right up to him and stare at him? @.@! Really?! 🤦♀️
The police simply didn't take the kids seriously, and trust the mother's more. This might sounds terrible, but this game is most likely inspired by a famous criminal case in japan that were known as 'Sugamo's Child Abandoment Case', which an irresponsible mother ran away leaving five children behind to fend for themselves. In the end, the mother was forced to come back because a crime involving the death of one children happened, and even after her neglect come to light, she only got a probation and still got the custody for the remaining children for whatever reason. So yeah, Japanese law kinda sucks when it comes to Child protection. Also to add, the house condition on this game really similar to how the Sugamo Case's house is described. It's filled with lots of Trash bag, and a mountain of cup noodle and instant food from convenience store because the children can't cook or afford anything else.
The ending of this game is dark and may have two different outcomes. One, the boy is happy that the bane of his existence has been killed off. Or two, he has been tainted by the murder and will grow up to kill other people.
Always love these games. They are not perfect but that is part of their charm. Quite tye story this one. Thank you for considering if we want to get kidnapped btw😂. Also windy in game and outside here. What a storm. Hope you are safe too Chris. And all enduring this in Europe. Netherlands here mostly broken trees and roofs. So normal stuff. Good luck all. Enjoy your kidnapping😂😊
This game was great up until the whole part with the Mister's house and the ending. Then it just became WEIRD. I also find it hard to believe a young girl would want a man to kidnap her to bring her mother back. Among other things. The beginning of the game really had me going thinking this was one of the best Chilla's Art games ever - then it just dropped off from that part onward. Too weird for me. :/
Pretty sure the balloon popping section is a direct reference to the one from REVII - by coincidence, I'm playing that, right now, and JUST got to that section - the use of 'loser' (the password to the last lock in the Happy Birthday sequence) in the clown's note seems highly unlikely to be coincidental, and since no English localizer is credited, it seems Chilla's did it themselves, which would put the reference in their hands.
I'm immediately just as suspicious of the hunched lady walking than the guy who seems mentally slow and creepily wants to play with kids 😂 I'm so suspicious. This is terrifying as a mom, as a person in general really the beginning makes me think that we are watching isn't what we think is going to happen. Love these games so much. I'm seriously so tense I'm at the writing part and literally hiding the screen and making it tiny. Mister is their dad isn't he?
I don't think mister is their dad. He seems to be the type to live alone. The mom wouldn't be interested in someone like him and she didn't know him when she confronted him. Not everyone has to be related. The sister said mister listens to whatever she tells him like she was ordering him around. The story makes more sense if he's not their dad. Otherwise, the kids would go live their dad rather than abusive mom.
@@user-gu9yq5sj7c I don't think "everyone is related", I just got that from the set up of their rooms at his home, and a subtle implication. But I am probably wrong lol
Reminds me of when I tried to watch the GameGrumps playthrough of Superliminal right when it came out, last year. It was cold, I felt like hell, and I at some point passed out on the couch-and had this horrific, bizarre nightmare of crawling through the darkness back to my room, as mysterious creepy things lurked in the dark on the floor around me...and whenever I'd crawl back into bed in my room, the nightmare would send me right back onto the couch and repeat the horrible process. Found out the day afterwards that I was going through my first case of covid. Whatever you're going through, I hope you recover soon and back to full health ✌️
I think a pretty good twist if Mister had turned out to be you and your sister's father. Like he didn't have custody, so decided to go around the law, to get them away from their toxic mother. Would have hurt the spooky elements however.
(had to edit this cause at first i was gonna spoil where bout the jumpscare was but i decided not to for those that havent seen it yet like myself till now. I been catching up on vids that i missed by chris since i been busy and had other things to do till now.
Why are Chilla's Art games sooooooo good!?? The beginning was a bit slow but it was building up to the good part. OMG the ending though... where tf was the mum??
You guys remember that old multi-chapter Albino Lullaby game that's been at a standstill for nearly a decade? I heard that chapter 2, Alice's Lullaby, has a trailer out now.
Mister was created by an awful parent. He was like a child because he never had a childhood. He got rid of his abuser and the protag’s. One of the more original endings for this type of game.
Sarao’s mom in the beginning says (when there are no subtitles)
“いつもいつもこの子はどう仕様もない。全く何でこのような子になっちゃったになんか。本当に産まなきゃよかったー”

i really liked this one alot, its up there in the list of top 3 by them, the story was sad and dark, kids had a sad, unloving home, so sister did something crazy just to get mom to love them again, but she still didnt, and the ending showed the boys fear and hatred to there abusive, unloving mother, its sad kids in our world go threw this type of household everyday, and i loved how the game showed this in alot of ways, and stranger danger etc. very well done game!
Yeah, the ending had such a morbid catharsis to it. Went through my own mess, growing up, so all the more reason I could sympathize with the boy when the abusive mom was finally "gone for good."
The mini game deserves its own release. Love that aesthetics. Well done
I like this "game within a game" trend within their games. I wonder if it's because they really want to branch out into different kinds of games but don't feel like they can get out of their "established" kind of game?
Thanks Chris for playing more than Alan Wake 2 right now. I would love to watch you play it but I really want to play it myself first.
I saw one ending in someone else's playthrough that was morbidly cathartic... I wonder if Chris will find that ending, too...? 🤭
I truly enjoyed this play through. Thank you for playing it for us.
This was perfect timing. I’m very sick and have been in the process of moving and selling the old house. It’s been a lot. Your videos are so relaxing to me.
I hope everyone is doing well 😃. Say hi and how your doing below if you want.
Get well soon 🙏🏻
Get well soon 💖
Gotta love Chilla's Art. Their games are looking so good now, yet still so freakishly janky.
Talk about a jumpscare - I’m sure you know which one I mean - my iPad nearly went sailing across the room!
That was really fun! Thank you for playing, CJU!
I'm so glad you are playing a bunch of different games! you're the best!
@.@! Really?! 🤦♀️
Games are different. It's more ok to stare at things and npcs. Mister would act the same and follow the story regardless.
@@user-gu9yq5sj7c Fair enough. I just react instinctively and would not go near him. Lol!
It's filled with lots of Trash bag, and a mountain of cup noodle and instant food from convenience store because the children can't cook or afford anything else.
was JUST looking for something to watch in bed! thanks for another upload!
I refuse to watch anyone else play Chila's Art games it took a day or two but im sure itll be worth it
58:25 Welcome to The Grudge!
This is one of your best videos ever…..
Thank you for all that you do.
WOO! Was looking forward to your gameplay of this one after seeing it was out!
The ending of this game is dark and may have two different outcomes. One, the boy is happy that the bane of his existence has been killed off. Or two, he has been tainted by the murder and will grow up to kill other people.
Yesssss. I saw there was a new chills games and was hoping you would play it! ❤ I refuse to watch anyone else 😅😅😅
Love Chillas art games 😊 I only ever watch you play them ❤ Thanks Chris 🤗
Your intros always crack me up
this one actually made me so anxious and scared rhe whole time and even after
This game was great up until the whole part with the Mister's house and the ending. Then it just became WEIRD. I also find it hard to believe a young girl would want a man to kidnap her to bring her mother back. Among other things. The beginning of the game really had me going thinking this was one of the best Chilla's Art games ever - then it just dropped off from that part onward. Too weird for me. :/
I liked that this was a bit of a departure from the usual monotony of a Chilla's Art game
So many balloons 😮 Jesus the clown is creepy, hate clowns
Pretty sure the balloon popping section is a direct reference to the one from REVII - by coincidence, I'm playing that, right now, and JUST got to that section - the use of 'loser' (the password to the last lock in the Happy Birthday sequence) in the clown's note seems highly unlikely to be coincidental, and since no English localizer is credited, it seems Chilla's did it themselves, which would put the reference in their hands.
That story was really grim with such monster making ending. I think this one was the number one Chilla game in it's own category.
Am I the only one here who laughed so hard when Chris said "don't ring the F*kin bell!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣
CJUGames playing a Chilla's Art! Yay!
i'm really here, taking shots when he says, "for fucks sake". lol.
everytime u play japanese horror games i always loved it, i love your videos so much watching from philippines
How many CJU I watch this month omg maybe 3 per days I want watch all your vidéos
This vaguely reminds me of that Japanese movie “Nobody Knows” a little bit. Good movie but very depressing plot.
I think this game and that movie are based on the same real-life incident :(
awesome neon light in the background Chris!
Is watching a playthrough of a Chilla's Art game while semi delerious because of a fever a good idea? Probably not.
But Im gonna do it anyways
Hope you feel better soon! Maybe watching this might actually help you fall asleep!!
Chilla's Art games have a sort of nostalgic jank to them, really enjoyable to watch.
Damn "Chilla's Art" never disappoints
Hello , and thank you for showing us another lovely horror game.
Thank you CJ!
Been waiting for this one yay :D Thank you Cju! \o/
I really enjoyed this! It was pretty intense and made me feel emotional. Well done.😁👍
Kinda figured the mother needs to go in the end
Always enjoy your playthroughs Brodie
wow this is simply depressing enough, even more depressing compared to past games. Good game Chilla's Art.
I appreciate your dedication on finishing the homework 😂😂
Chilla's Art always have an interesting story.
Man I really needed this. It’s been a rough day. Thank you for posting!!!
This story had me intrigued throughout.
This was like a cymbalta nightmare.
Another interesting chilla's art game... Excellent commentary as always Chris, thanks for the entertainment ♥️
Damn, that smile at the end...
Chillasart has mastered the art of making you feel watched.
I really like the music in the mini game does anyone know what it is called?
Another great video from CJ
I think a pretty good twist if Mister had turned out to be you and your sister's father. Like he didn't have custody, so decided to go around the law, to get them away from their toxic mother. Would have hurt the spooky elements however.
This felt more like a technical showcase than a game. Not a fan of this compared to their earlier work.
Best chilla's art game yet
After the jumpscare toward the end i had to pause it cause it got me real good
(had to edit this cause at first i was gonna spoil where bout the jumpscare was but i decided not to for those that havent seen it yet like myself till now. I been catching up on vids that i missed by chris since i been busy and had other things to do till now.
That jumpscare in the attic got me lol
Why are Chilla's Art games sooooooo good!?? The beginning was a bit slow but it was building up to the good part. OMG the ending though... where tf was the mum??
At the beginning, she said just before the black out : "It would have been better if you wouldn't be born"

You guys remember that old multi-chapter Albino Lullaby game that's been at a standstill for nearly a decade? I heard that chapter 2, Alice's Lullaby, has a trailer out now.
Good video to end a work week.. let’s gooo!!!
Loved your playthrough 🧡
Great gameplay
Mister was created by an awful parent. He was like a child because he never had a childhood. He got rid of his abuser and the protag’s. One of the more original endings for this type of game.
Every Chilla's Art game is entertaining!
I LOOOVE Chilla’s Art, but this one is a no for me 🥹
Jesus..the thumbnail scaring the shit out of me. 😂😂😂
wet the bed? more like shit the bed, holy crap
Wow Chris, more than 100.000 likes. Congratulations
I currently see 2200 likes. Is this comment from the future XD?
Weird. This morning it said 100.000 likes. Maybe it was a bug
Thank youuu Chris ❤❤
