I'm vietnamese so it's always interesting to see parts of your culture in a game 🥺 I liked this one. I really enjoy asian games in general, it shows a different kind of horror because a lot of them get inspiration from local culture and customs, religious beliefs, taboos and legends, that are rarely known by western audience.

@@spicybeantofu yep! But we also have to take into consideration most Vietnamese families in poor/rural areas barely made half of that in a year and that was not considering those with lower education. The economy was doing good for them in the late 90s/early 2000s but not good enough to repay that much unless every member of the family had good jobs.

Some clarification: +) When the fortune teller/psychic tell the MC to come in, "it" doesn't even dare to come in with him. She probably meant the spirit/curse or whatever is haunting him. Usually the place of fortune teller are warded very careful to keep evil at bay. But as you can see, the "thing" still comes in anyways, showing how powerful it is. +) The money he got in the beginning of the video is paper money we burn for the dead, not real money.
I thought the "thing" was just his sister's spirit, but when you mention how powerful it is, I have a feeling that I might be wrong, the "thing" might be (or just a part?) of the scourge demon (and dang she's hella fine)
27:43 This is the actual hide-n-seek in VN called “Nam Muoi”. In “Nam Muoi,” the seeker counts in fives - “5, 10, 15…” - up to 100, giving hiders time to find a spot before the search begins. If they find someone, they must race back to the starting point to call them out. The goal is for the hiders to reach the starting point without being caught, while the seeker aims to tag everyone. And the reason the game appears is because traditionally, Vietnamese people believe spirits inhabit certain spaces, especially hidden or dark places. Playing hide-and-seek at dusk or night is thought to disturb these spirits, inviting bad luck or even encounters with the supernatural. Or even worse, the spirits can hide you somewhere else that the seeker can’t find you.
Just realized a cool reference that alot of people missed (understandably because most people don't speak vietnamese lol) but the apartment that the main character has been exploring is named "Phong Xich Lan". If you switch the position of the last few letters of the first and last word (also a style of Vietnamese traditional puns), you get "Phan Xich Long", a famous geomancer and mystic from the 18th century who rebelled against the French and tried to crowned himself as a religious monarch. Also, the money we found throughout the game is just hell money lmao
I find it really interesting that at 1:00:33, when the main character's name (Nhat Huy) appear on the cake after the glitch, as opposed to the original name (Nhat Huyen - a name usually given to girls back then) implied that the baby born was supposed to be girl, or maybe your twin sister but somehow only you were born instead 🤔
bro I thought you understand it bc of being Vietnamese. Nhat Huyen was his little sister. it was supposed to be Huyen's birthday but their parents had always favored Huy more bc he's the son, it just implicates the unfairness Huyen had to endure in that family
@@senialweife What's worse is that even though it's Huyen's birthday, it looks like she still has to prepare the table while her brother sits there. In the scene of the first fortune teller, there is a mention of "Trung Tang". According to Vietnamese folk beliefs, the " Trung Tang" phenomenon is the phenomenon of a family having a family member die at the same "death" hours. (it is like the hour of the dead), falling into the killing life (Tiger, Monkey, Snake, Pig), then one by one, that person's relatives also die until the number of deaths is 3, 5, 7 or 9 people. But in the case of the main character (Nhat Huy), his family's death is not a "Trung Tang" but an unjust death. Wrongful death is known as being harmed by another person or dying due to an unknown accident. 5:10
