HOLY HELL!!!!!! THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!! This is one of the best casts of this show I've EVER heard vocally and musically! This is how you do a ROCK opera. Been looking for this forever. Thank you for sharing, my friend!!!! :)
The musical arrangement that was used for this Australian/NZ tour is my favourite version of the show in any of its many many incarnations. It put the “rock” into rock opera in a way that the Broadway/West End version of the orchestration that was implemented in the early 2000s just doesn’t. Thank you so much for putting this online. This concert tour was such a huge deal in Australia when it happened. Watching it as an adult (I was 11 when I saw it, my parents took me to all the big musicals that came to Adelaide, from Wizard of Oz to this) is a lot of fun. And LOLOL the costumes are so so 90s.

Honestly, one of my favourite things about this production is that Farnham never sings the famous high note that too many productions view as a compulsory requirement when casting the role. There’s a TH-cam video compilation of various different singers hitting that G5 in Gethsemane that asks “who sang it best”, and most of them approach it as a gymnastic feat they must pull off in order to be considered worthy of the role, rather than as an organic extension of the emotional state of the character. You can feel the panic rising in them as they near that part of the song. By contrast, this production wasn’t afraid to modify the score to suit the performer’s strengths, and it’s better for it.
Good Lord..., this is an absolutely awesome production of JCS. The voices are incredible. I don't understand why I just now found out about this production. The way "Poor Jerusalem" is sung is breathtaking and brought tears to my eyes. Why isn't there a DVD?BlueRay of it?
