So because a lots of you asked for description. This production was directed by Sándor Silló and choreographed by György Krámer, who also made the first hungarian Jesus Christ Superstar back in 1986. The conductor was László Zádori. The idea was, that as Operas usually sang in their original language, JCS as a rockopera should be too this time. This is an all hungarian cast, no foreigners. The stage was build in front of Szombathely's iconic Isis sanctuary, the Iseum. I have seen several renditions of Superstar, done by a cast who had singers whose first language was not English. Singers who spoke German, French, Spanish, etc, but this version was done better than the others I saw. It is very difficult to do. Kudos to all involved in this wonderful production. The fast speed of this one just adds one more touch to set it apart from other versions. Thank you!
I’m so glad this production used “We Are Decided”. I wish more productions would use it. I think it adds so much more depth to the story and the characters of Caiaphas and Annas. Also an interesting placement within “What’s The Buzz” but I can understand why it was done. Well done!
This to me is one of the best versions I have ever seen along with the original film. The performances are great and the singers amazing. I have watched it many times and I am moved emotionally and spiritually each time. To anyone involved in this production and see my comment I just want to say Bravo!
I totally agree. Just watching this right now and I was in the off Broadway versions when this came out. As a professional actor and singer songwriter I am impressed so far but these are all singers not actors! I know speech infections and singing as well. Glad to see some real music for a change with the younger generation instead of the Rappers and the DJ's! j a y

So much of it is enhanced by various technical tricks because alot of the singers can't even sing! At last a Judas and a Jesus who are not screaming at the top of there voices but actually singing to the audiance, this version is better the the UK tour I saw a few months ago.
W.O.W what a good production... Such good actors/singers, dancers, musicians, costumes, choreagraphy... SUPER....But , a special shout out to Judas... He is just nailing every part of his role!
Incredible direction, incredible actors and singers! This is the very best Crowd I've seen in any productions, without questions. Jesus and Judas are amazing main characters, flawless vocals and emotion. The Priests are great! It's rare to see actually old men as priests. They look really mean and powerful, Annas and Caiaphas have amazing voices. Pilate is a great actor, showing off power with slightest gestures and inserting enough weight into his short lines. This show looked and sounded equally great. Cheers to our dear Hungarian neighbours from Ukraine!
This and the TV version (with Alice Cooper as King Herod) is just amazing. I like it just as much as I like the original film. The performance and the singers were just amazing.
This was phenomenal!!!! Jesus, Judas, Mary Magdalene, Pilot, Simon, even Herod were all absolutely fabulous singers n actors in n the dancers were so excellent, n the staging was awesome,!!!! The entire production was almost as great as the original movie too which I couldn't get on my phone, sadly, but this was sooo close that it made me extremely pleased that I found it!!! I watch all renditions of this play. I love the music. It’s so expressive. I grew up in the 60’s and 70’s and It fits with the eta. I haven’t this one.. just started it but I am sure it’s wonderful too
The original film is hard to follow but this version is very true to the films music and singers. Judas is on point, love the fast pace and energy. It’s fantastic
Apart from some weird accents, all the solos are absolutely wonderful. And the choir, the dancing, the orchestra..., I don't know what to say. It's all just WOW!!! Apart from the 1973 movie, this is the best JCS I have ever seen on TH-cam. By far the best! Is there a DVD of this production?
Really enjoyed this version. So interesting to see singers whose first language is not English have to sing this very emotional musical! That must be quite difficult. Kind of cute when they mispronounce things. Really enjoyed the addition of the devil character.
I love how this version adds in the resurrection. I get why the original didn’t have it but the simple addition of Jesus walking out of the tomb makes it 100 times better.
I completely agree! I was in a local production of this show in 1990. We added a scene where the soldiers took my friend Charlie off of the cross, and it made the show so much more emotional. The same with this production's resurrection scene.

Imo it’s better without the scene. The musical is supposed to leave it ambiguous whether or not Jesus is actually a magical figure. Hence his inability to save the lepers, or show King Herod anything fantastical, etc. It’s better if it’s also ambiguous whether Jesus rises from the dead.
That's kind of the whole point is that it's supposed to be ambiguous lol, I get why religious people might not like that, but It kind of ruins the intent of the play by doing that. Oh well.

Definitely one of, if not the best version of JCS on youtube. It sounds to me most like the original cast album of any, as far as orchestration, conducting and especially the singing. Outstanding, with only a few forgiveable weaknesses among so many strengths, Is it not a Hungarian cast, the projected titles seem to be in that highly unique language? I thought this was really wonderful. Jesus & Judas are both incredible singers/performers. I found Jesus' Gethsemane to be one of the best I have heard in awhile! Pilate was great, as well. Very interesting how they veered from the original in so many ways, especially the use of angels & demons to persuade Judas. Also having Simon in a wheelchair was beautiful to see & what an amazing singer he is also! I would like to know what Peter is saying at the end? I also like that they bring out all the musicians at the end for recognition. Thank you for sharing!

This is my first time seeing Jesus Christ Superstar and I am awed by the passion and energy these actors brought! Such interesting directional choices, I love the addition of the devil character and the way the crowd was portrayed. Dammed for all time was done beautifully. Amazing talent!

Best performance of JC Superstar I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen plenty of them! Choreography was 10 out of 10 and everybody hit those high notes even Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane! Mary is beautiful. Only thing I would have added is Jesus busting that cash register into a million pieces in the temple scene
I really love this performance. BRAVO. The singer who plays Jesus is a great he has the screams down pat. Also the singer who plays Judas is great too.
There was another version of JCS done by an Italian production company. But it's not on youtube anymore. This is the second best attempt for another foreign company to do JCS in English! Bravo to everyone!

Great performance. Musically, everything in place- even the right trumpet mutes .. And..live ( not a playback) . Only the .. apostles were slightly out of tune .. What city, modalities and production was this ? thank you
Lamentablemente, para mí no es tan genial como para el resto, y no soy nada exigente. Sin duda es espectacular, y con muy buenas voces, pero no ha conseguido absorberme ni he conseguido creérmela, siendo justamente Jesús lo que me ha resultado menos creíble. He estado a punto de dejar de verla en varias ocasiones, pero me ha podido la curiosidad llevándome hasta el final, lo que no está nada mal, porque en otras representaciones ni la curiosidad ha podido con el hastío o el desagrado. He llegado hasta aquí tras retirarme de otras versiones, y de ver otra representación menos espectacular que esta, y no sé si algo menos de calidad musical, pero que me ha enganchado desde el primer momento hasta el final y ha conseguido emocionarme, hasta el punto de hacerme lagrimar un tanto así… y buscar más representaciones… 🤷♂
I like this version, but loved the original movie version. In the movie version, I loved the costumes of the irreverent, buffoonish, Jewish leaders. Those black plastic hats were something else. Jesus IS the King of the Jews and King of us all.
I like how Annas stands at Caiaphas' feet like he's trying to rouse up the Sanhedrin for him, and how they seem a lot more (fake) friendly when trying to offer Judas the money. And the whole way Pilate and Christ is presented.
This is a pretty good production but I want to make a couple of observations. This appears to have been recorded in a non-English speaking country in Europe. I could catch glimpses of the screens to the sides of the stage that translate the lyrics into the local language for the audience. The songs are performed in English but some of the singers have noticeable accents. Some of the spoken lines were delivered in another language. I started watching this while cooking dinner and missed some details that should have been obvious because I was distracted. This includes the language issue. Another issue I didn’t understand at first was why the production was so heavily white washed. The original stage production and the movie version placed considerable emphasis on having a racially diverse cast. The cast in this version is entirely white. This made a lot more sense once I became aware that this was a European, and probably a Northern European, production. It can be hard to hire a racially diverse cast if your population lacks racial diversity. I also thought they made some strange staging decisions. The stage is relatively small. They chose to place a large, Romanesque building facade on this small stage. The set was obviously not movable. Thus, all of the scenes take place in front of a large Roman facade despite the fact that most of the scenes don’t take place in Romanized locations. The production also made the odd decision to have Jesus remain on stage in some scenes where he is not normally present. Thus, the scene in which the Jewish priests discuss how to handle the problem of Jesus takes place in front of a Roman building with Jesus on stage. However, these issue were minor distractions to what was otherwise an excellent production.

Двое суток я переписывала ноты, текст и перевод! Конечно, за два дня выучила арии Магдалины! Я была в каком-то сюрреалистическом экстазе. А потом мы с ансамблем из Питера в Турцию по Архангельской области. На концерте, когда точно знали, что нет проверяющего, я исполняла арии Магдалины. Это был такой кайф! А как принимала публика! Говорят "Совок", не было ничего хорошего, не было музыкантов... Ерунда! Были. Кстати, в нашей группе на йонике( кто помнит) играл Сережа Курёхин! Зарабатывал на инструмент. Господи, аппаратуры нормальной не было! Гитаристы со своими гитарами, колонками, училками. За это платили как за амортизацию. Микрофон БИК... Йоника "Юность"..

Everybody from the performance is from Hungary. The show is made in Szombathely a town in Hungary. Herod is saying: I love you Szombathely!

Amazing performance!
This is my first time seeing Jesus Christ Superstar and I am awed by the passion and energy these actors brought! Such interesting directional choices, I love the addition of the devil character and the way the crowd was portrayed. Dammed for all time was done beautifully. Amazing talent!

Best performance of JC Superstar I’ve ever seen and I’ve seen plenty of them! Choreography was 10 out of 10 and everybody hit those high notes even Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane! Mary is beautiful. Only thing I would have added is Jesus busting that cash register into a million pieces in the temple scene

There was another version of JCS done by an Italian production company. But it's not on youtube anymore. This is the second best attempt for another foreign company to do JCS in English! Bravo to everyone!

Lamentablemente, para mí no es tan genial como para el resto, y no soy nada exigente. Sin duda es espectacular, y con muy buenas voces, pero no ha conseguido absorberme ni he conseguido creérmela, siendo justamente Jesús lo que me ha resultado menos creíble. He estado a punto de dejar de verla en varias ocasiones, pero me ha podido la curiosidad llevándome hasta el final, lo que no está nada mal, porque en otras representaciones ni la curiosidad ha podido con el hastío o el desagrado. He llegado hasta aquí tras retirarme de otras versiones, y de ver otra representación menos espectacular que esta, y no sé si algo menos de calidad musical, pero que me ha enganchado desde el primer momento hasta el final y ha conseguido emocionarme, hasta el punto de hacerme lagrimar un tanto así… y buscar más representaciones… 🤷♂
I like this version, but loved the original movie version. In the movie version, I loved the costumes of the irreverent, buffoonish, Jewish leaders. Those black plastic hats were something else.

I like how Annas stands at Caiaphas' feet like he's trying to rouse up the Sanhedrin for him, and how they seem a lot more (fake) friendly when trying to offer Judas the money. And the whole way Pilate and Christ is presented.
This is a pretty good production but I want to make a couple of observations. This appears to have been recorded in a non-English speaking country in Europe. I could catch glimpses of the screens to the sides of the stage that translate the lyrics into the local language for the audience. The songs are performed in English but some of the singers have noticeable accents. Some of the spoken lines were delivered in another language.
I started watching this while cooking dinner and missed some details that should have been obvious because I was distracted. This includes the language issue. Another issue I didn’t understand at first was why the production was so heavily white washed. The original stage production and the movie version placed considerable emphasis on having a racially diverse cast. The cast in this version is entirely white. This made a lot more sense once I became aware that this was a European, and probably a Northern European, production. It can be hard to hire a racially diverse cast if your population lacks racial diversity.
I also thought they made some strange staging decisions. The stage is relatively small. They chose to place a large, Romanesque building facade on this small stage. The set was obviously not movable. Thus, all of the scenes take place in front of a large Roman facade despite the fact that most of the scenes don’t take place in Romanized locations.
The production also made the odd decision to have Jesus remain on stage in some scenes where he is not normally present. Thus, the scene in which the Jewish priests discuss how to handle the problem of Jesus takes place in front of a Roman building with Jesus on stage.
However, these issue were minor distractions to what was otherwise an excellent production.
An amazing stage adaptation from the original film. I am 56 and rhis score is ingrained in my core. Watch the original film every Easter. Xx 😘

В 1976 я работала в одной филармонии, потом переманили в другую. В Питере мне повезло- достала ноты( перепечатку), либретто, главные арии для фортепиано с текстом! Счастье! Двое суток я переписывала ноты, текст и перевод! Конечно, за два дня выучила арии Магдалины! Я была в каком-то сюрреалистическом экстазе. А потом мы с ансамблем из Питера в Турцию по Архангельской области. На концерте, когда точно знали, что нет проверяющего, я исполняла арии Магдалины. Это был такой кайф! А как принимала публика! Говорят "Совок", не было ничего хорошего, не было музыкантов... Ерунда! Были. Кстати, в нашей группе на йонике( кто помнит) играл Сережа Курёхин! Зарабатывал на инструмент. Господи, аппаратуры нормальной не было! Гитаристы со своими гитарами, колонками, училками. За это платили как за амортизацию. Микрофон БИК... Йоника "Юность"..
