Well, I'm 62 but I remember seeing Jesus Christ Superstar at the Palace theater in New York when I was 11. It mesmerized me. I just discovered this randomly. A real treat.

Ian Gillan and Murrey Head will always be my favorite interpretations; however, this arrangement is so original and refreshingly rocky/funky, I just fell in love with it. Bravo David!

For me too, though this is my first time hearing this version .I'm open but it's hard to think I'll change my opinion after 50 years.

This is my favourite musical arrangement of the show. It put the ROCK in "rock opera" - which the various West End and Broadway versions, as great as they may be in other ways, lacked.

I grew up with this one, saw the concert live and listened to the CD hundreds of times. It's the best musical arrangement of the stage show ever.

The greatest ever singer to ever play the part of Judas Iscariot in the Jesus Christ Superstar role was Jon English. Nobody can ever come close to him in both voice and looks. John Stevens was great, but Jon English the greatest with the best vocal range of anyone to ever play that role.

I've got to say, this is a great production and well worth the listen. 99% of the vocal performances were outstanding! I think the only ones that had any issue at all was that David Gould (Caiaphas) tended to be a little pitchy, and one of the priests sounded like he would break into a verse of "Officer Krupke" at any second.
Kate Ceberano (Mary) was a true pleasure and is as beautiful as she is a gifted talent. Jon Stevens (Judas) was outstanding! John Farnham was amazing and brought a great rock feel to the role. The only thing I'd have changed in his performance is that it peaked early, giving some of his best vocal work in his very first song. I'd have rather he made some different choices and let the performance build a little more to Gethsemane, which is really the high point of the role. There is nothing wrong with putting out on the first date, but you don't text pictures of your junk on the way to the restaurant. In spite of that, it's a truly amazing performance, and very much worth listening to.
My only real criticism of the production was the choices of the arranger and conductor. Having played bass in 3 different productions of this, I'm very familiar with the score and what needs to be done for stage as opposed to the film score with which everyone is so well acquainted. The deciding to entirely change the feel of many key songs (I Don't Know How to Live Him comes immediately to mind) was nothing short of barbarism for the sake of change. I only hope they took the score out to dinner first before screwing it that hard. In the long run, they did a disservice not only to the music but to an outstanding cast who deserved better.
Great performances from everyone else involved. You'd be hard pressed to find a more talented cast.

When the original came out i was 7-8 years old and now every time i hear "Superstar" i sing the song we all sang as kids in the school yard:
"Jesus Christ Superstar Burnin' down the corner in a motorcar.
"Cops come up, we don't care, we got bullet proof underwear".
Aahh good times as a kids. Yah can never get it back.

kind of repetitive with the beats. Jesus and Judas were cool. Some of the music sounds pretty fresh and cool, but in all, personally, the original still blows it away.

Cleveland Alabama I have the original American 1st pressing. I've been listening to this music for 50 years now. I have to say, this is a more polished version than how records were made in 1970. The original is very of its time. In spots I think this version is just as good, perhaps even better, again, in spots. But the original tracks with Yvonne Elliman, only on the 1970 version, for me are far superior.
