Sea Fishing UK - Exploring a new area catches lots of fish!!! | The Fish Locker

  • Sea fishing on the Cornwall coast can offer some wonderful species to catch if you adapt what you are doing. This time of year you really have to make the most of any opportunity you can. Here I explore an area of reef I have wanted to fish for a while and try to find some shelter from the wind and swell. Mixed lure fishing on the drift and then fishing at anchor pulls in loads of different species.
    Don't forget to check out our sister channel ‪@thefishlockerworkshop‬ for helpful reviews and videos.
    Here are links to some of the fishing tackle I used in this video. I hope it helps.

    I love that you crush down your barbs. My dad used to do that when we fished as kids. We kept catching the same school of perch over and over again. They looked like victims of a deranged plastic surgeon but they were the fattest, happiest perch in the lake.

    • @TheFishLocker
      @TheFishLocker  ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha. Thats a good thing to teach young anglers. Also, as an outlook. Those fish were far more valuable to catch several times than just to catch and kill.

    • @atribiliousme9528
      @atribiliousme9528 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheFishLocker agreed. We focus on catch and release when I go fishing with my kids. We are more interested in the experience of fishing and seeing these beautiful creatures up close than we are eating them. If I still lived on the Atlantic Coast I'd probably bring home mackerel and squid to eat, but oddly the cost of fish is typically higher there than it is in the greater Toronto area here in Ontario because for some very stupid reason most of the fish that gets caught out there comes here and then gets shipped BACK to the atlantic coast to be sold.

    John your seamanship and conservation practices are an exceptional example for young and old. I believe ( and maybe in error) from reading past posts you are a R.N. veteran. In the U.S.N. with have term for a experience seafarer as having "their sea legs." Or being able to feel at ease working on a pitching, rolling deck. There is also a U.S.N. phrases of respect, toast or salutation between mariners, and that is “Fair Winds and Following Seas." It's a gesture of good luck to those we will miss and sailors who have served with honor and courage. Keep showing and teaching us what come so easily to you. Every Time you have a harvest to cook video, I need to snack (eat) on something. As we get older and have to worry about our waste line a Codling will do for our fish & chips. In hindsight, I guess we have earned the right to have to worry about that. Cheers mate!

    John, I must say, some of the best advice I've followed from your channel was when hung up in the reef, or the kelp, just let it sit for a few minutes. I've retreived more rigs out of serious snags by putting the rod down, and getting something to snack on or drink. My son has seen the benefits of this practice as well.

I go mainly to Mablethorpe or a bit further down to huttoft or Anderby creek. Some nice big sandy beaches with gentle slopes. I may venture down to Norfolk in the spring and fish some nice beaches there that I know. Most of my early days sea fishing was out on the Thames estuary, catching whiting, cod, spotty dogs and thornbacks on a friend's boat. Sometimes off the end of Southend pier, but never really had much luck there, and too many people wanting to talk to anti social me ☺. Maybe one day I'll head down your way and hit the rocks...

      Hi Pilz, quick question. The Midlands are all the "shire" counties, to the east the channel & North sea. To the west Wales. I'm a American and trying to understand the country of my heritage. The "Cornish paradise" means that it's a sportsman or fishing paradise? From what it sounds like your "home sick" for Cornwall and can't wait to return? I'm not sure what "packing and skipping stuff" means. I ask because I'm following (and enjoying) The Fish Locker and what to better understand. I think it was George Bernard Shaw who said, "Britain and America are two nations divided by a common language."

    • @PilzE.
      @PilzE. ปีที่แล้ว

      @@warrenjones376 Hi Warren. Yeah, so the Midlands, is just that, the middle lands of England. We were from Rugby, a market town in Warwickshire. The “Cornish paradise” is my families and my definition of Cornwall with regard to the rest of the UK. Cornwall is just a stunning place. It is an extremely popular holiday (vacation) destination, boasting some of the most picturesque places you'll see anywhere. The fishing is about the best you'll find in UK waters too! As for being homesick for Cornwall, we had holidayed here every year for the last 15 years, and always hated leaving, so decided we'd relocate!
      Packing and skipping stuff just meant packing stuff into boxes, etc, and skipping stuff was throwing stuff into the trash!
      Hope that helps.

    Another great day out shared with us, thanks. When I did most of my sea fishing, in the late 1950s early 60 we didn't have size limits, or jigs, don't know either of them came in. Our approach to stock conservation was quite different way back then, we kept the smaller, (not real tiddlers though) and put the bigger ones back. The favourite size keeper bass for instance was about 14inches (36cm), pan sized. So pleased that you managed to get a dogfish, a Fish Locker video wouldn't be the same without at least one!
