I love this type of video your channel is awesome a lot of fish coming up on that line!
You and Smashfishing should do a video together. Overnight fishing session.
love all of it , love the boat ones 🙂👍
Another brilliant Fish-Locker production.
Bro I like your all videos😍😍😍.. you so nice having beautiful family.. 👍👍👍..love from kerala.. india
Best UK fishing channel by a country mile. Coarse fishing bores me to tears so enjoy to see you out and about on the boat getting involved in all weather. The free diving vids are ace as well
- Thank you very much. I do enjoy a bit of freshwater fishing from time to time but I LOVE my sea fishing. 😊
wanderer 77 This channel AND TA Fishing, great viewing from both channels, (I don’t do the whole Course Fishing thing either). I’ve just bought an Orkney Longliner 16 to restore so I really enjoy these small boat orientated channels. Tight lines all. 👍🏻👊🏻
@@ct026 best of luck with the boat restoration, it's something I'd love to do one day finances permitting!
wanderer 77 I’m on a strict budget with this boat but will do it right and will source the best prices. Slow and steady wins the race as they say. Forgot to mention my other fav channel, Cornish Kayak Fisherman. These are my top three. All well presented content, no nonsense, no frills just fishing. I also Kayak fish, weather and time permitting. Was thinking of doing a small series on the boat but I sold all my Gopros to find part of the project!! 😂
@@ct026 good luck on the boat restoration my mum's cousin and his son and a few friends and family share an Orkney longliner and it's a lovely boat never been on it but seen I out before and Iv never heard of it breaking down at all so very trustworthy boats
This is literally the best TH-cam Channel ever. I love your personalities. I love how you call your family mrs fish locker and fish locker jr. you are such an experienced fisher and keep up the good work.
- Haha. Thank you very much Dylan, we are simply sharing what we know and love doing. 😊👍🏻🐟💙
The Fish Locker please can you do a video where you do foraging for edible crabs
Dylan Morris Muc off - As I have said already, I have done many videos like that.
Had a bad week at work John and so glad you put this up, I’m having an early night tonight and I’ll be up at 6 in the morning and will watch this while I’m getting my head and breakfast for the Mrs and bubba together 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 you’re a star!
- It is my pleasure mate. Sorry you’ve had a crap week but good luck for the weekend. 😊👍🏻
Such a humble and genuine youtuber who appreciates and replies to all the comment, your vidoes oozes such a relaxing vibe, I fall asleep watching it so I’m loving it!!
😊 thank you, we are simply sharing what we love doing, and we appreciate everyone that takes the time to comment to us
It must be so nice being able to go boat fishing especially the way the world is now... just a nice trip to get away from all the crazy crap going on. Must be so peaceful :|
- It surely is. 😊🎣💙
Hello John, As a sea scout, I have learned so much from you about foraging, fishing and etc. It has honestly advance my knowledge in my passion in seamanship. Keep up the good work. 😁👍
- That is wonderful to hear. I am so glad that you are finding the videos so helpful. 😊👍🏻
John you are a tonic. I’m no fisherwoman but boy do I enjoy your videos. Thank you.😍🏴😷🥰
- Rita, it is our pleasure. 😊💙
I really appreciate your clear use of adequate safety measures. Fishing is both a great vocation and avocation, but it's smart to plan to be alive tomorrow to do it again. Thank you for being a good role model for all.
- That is fantastic advice. “plan to be alive tomorrow” I like that. Glad you’re enjoying the videos, if you feel that any of your friends would enjoy the videos please share them on 😆👍🏻🎣
John I played this video several times. Yes I like the variety wherever you are foraging. Nature walks. Dives and cooking all on shore in boat all-night on either one. Whever u r safe. Thanks for asking. Our Love to family.
- That is wonderful Rosemary. I really do try to keep our content varied so there is something for everyone. 😊👍🏻💙
It's the start of the weekend and what better way to start it than a Fish Locker video. John really amazing watching you bring those conger in at night. I'd be worried for my fingers and feet. The bacon barbecue has made me hungry so off to the kitchen. Great post as always, thanks for that. I have to say I don't know which of your video types I like best, I think coastal exploring just stands out a bit more because of the scenic shots and your informed commentary. I also like the underwater videos, whatever your doing is always of interest.
- Thanks David. We do hope to expand on all of the playlists as we go forward so hopefully we will have more of the exploring ones to come 😊👍🏻
Putting in a lot of his time and effort plus his knowledge is second to none
Thank you.
Jesus Christ, You actually TAG your links when you say so. I watch a lot of youtube and many others dont tag when they say. I rarely comment, and when i do its mainly because your videos provoke me to. Keep it up. Honestly, ofc the vids dont pay for the house, but keep going as you are and I can promise you, you'll get further than you ever expected, and thats purely based on the quality overall.
- Thank you Alex. Yes people who know me will all attest that what I say, I mean and do. I’m glad you’re enjoying the content. We are simply sharing what we know and love doing. Simple, honest and original content. Take care sir and have a wonderful day. 😊👍🏻🎣
i believe those are called "cards" or at least they used to be....after they got rid of "voting/polling" on cards (a few months ago) i wonder if they changed the name.....he is getting a LOT better at this. I bet he makes more doing this now than he made as a fisheries officer ;)
Iroxinping - Haha. That was when I was young and idealistic. Working 3 jobs so that I “could make a difference with boots on the ground” 😛
@@TheFishLocker you did. don't doubt it.
Iroxinping - Haha. I don’t know if I did. But that path lead me to where I am now and for that I am thankful. 😊
I CONFIRM IT. You're the best fisherman all over the world...................... Great great great great.........
- Haha. I am flattered that you think so. 🤣🎣
The U.K. has beautiful marine life. Though my infatuation with fishing is diminishing the more I see the side of the detriment to marine life, there's still enjoyment in seeing skilled fisherman pull astounding things from the water. Thank you for sharing.
- That is the difference between rod and line and low impact catch and release fishing and commercial scale fishing. 😊👍🏻🎣
Love the advice on getting everything ready before you start fishing. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail !
- Absolutely Barry. Prep saves so much time and effort. 😉👍🏻🐟
"Deer meat for dinner" recommends filling the cooler with ice but also add some sea water to make it slushy, thereby extending the freshness of the fish, giving it a better flavour, but of
course he's in Florida where it is very hot.
- He is very right to say that. The slush part is very important as it transfers the chill better to the fish. The flavour an quality of meat is helped but the biggest factor in that is how well you bleed the fish. Good advice. 😊
John. Fish locker videos are such a breath of fresh air after. I being so beat up by things we battle with day to day. Im so glad to get a notification. So Ill lay here and recuperate. Thank you John for great videos and loving kindness.
- We are just glad that we can help in any small way. 😊👍🏻🎣
Hello John, there's no better way of unstressing than crashing out and watching one of your vlogs,I enjoyed the overnight fishing immensely although I wouldn't have slept (personal choice) and the breakfast I think was one of my favorite moments with a cup of tea of course,I was well mlm impressed with the eels, thanks for another adventure,I would like to see more for sure, all the best John.👍
- That is great to hear, as soon as we get the right conditions I will look at doing more. 😊👍🏻🎣
Didnt even realise I was watching this for 30 minutes. This is what all fishing videos should be like, informative and entertaining all the way through.
- Thank you Rily, I am glad that you enjoyed the video. 😊👍🏻🎣
Because of your videos im picking up my first fishing set tomorrow! and hopefully get catching some fish very soon :) keep up the great videos 👍
- Thats awesome Stewart. Good luck and tight lines. 😊👍🏻🎣
Tight lines,my friend. Tight lines
2'35" in! There's my dinner right there!! As for the rest of the video??? How wonderful was that!! (There is NOTHING like a bacon sarnie 'first thing'!) Thank you John.
- I agree mate. Nothing like a bacon buttie for breakfast. Did the shirt arrive?
Great stuff John heading out myself for a days sea fishing in Kinsale Ireland next Wednesday 👍
- Good luck and tight lines mate. 👍🏻
Perfect timing, bored lying down with a sore back, that broke the bordom, great stuff
- Just start at the top of my boat fishing playlist mate. 50 vids there should do you for a day or two. 😉
@@TheFishLocker, sorry mate, no can do. I have watched everything you have done including all your workshop stuff, that's got to earn me a free t shirt😂😂😂
oh man.. that big scad (jack mackerel over here) would never make it past my frying pan.... lol.. great session as always, man..
- Haha. If it had been a big mackerel I would have had it bled and Filleted off for breakfast. 😉🐟🍽

Slowly working my way through all of your videos. They are an excellent antidote to lockdown. Nothing beats a bacon sandwich after a good nights fishing. Keep up the good work.
- Thank you Mike. I am glad that you are enjoying working your way through the back catalogue. Take care mate and tight lines. 😊
hi somebody taught me that if you put your hand underneath the sun and count your fingers to the horizon each finger represents 15mins that's how long you have got till sun set and it works
- I will try that.
Fookin hell??
Does anyone else get excited when you here...Hello and welcome from the Fish Locker I do!! Always know another great video is coming up 👍🐟
- Haha. Glad you’re enjoying the content mate.
John , I would like to see you make a video of smoking fish like they do in Denmark . You can make a 6 hook rig with medium sized bait to catch a few dozen Whiting quickly . You then split and gut them to smoke them over wood chips . Delicious . You also can make your own Smoker out of wood .
- I would really like to do that but as I live in a residential area I cannot use a smoker in my garden. 🤷🏻♂️
@@TheFishLocker You can do it on the beach but I just wanted to tell you that we do it a lot in the US . That fish sure tastes good too right out of the smoker .
LET'S see you or Mrs FL make some jellied eels, or eel pie liquor & mash too.
I religiously watch your videos on Sundays and the bonus ones during the week. I watch loads of the older ones. Also Spargos kitchen. This is the first time I’ve come across this overnight session. Good session and interesting variety caught. I wouldn’t fancy being out there all night.
Hi John love the overnight videos can you make some more keep it up 👍
- I will do mate. Just need the right conditions. 😉🎣
Can’t wait already 😁😁😁
I never thought I’d be interested in watching stuff like this!!! Magnificent! Totally hooked !
I have been telling people for a while. You don't necessarily need to want to do these things to find it interesting. 😊
Good video i love fishing am Portuguese from azores live in the states u.s.a I go fix her here when I can good look man

Your videos.... no matter the subject or activities... are compelling. You (and your family) have such a engaging style with the viewers... I feel that I am not so much "watching" you... but rather... "participating " with you on your excursions ... whether in the boat... foraging the shore.. or cooking what you catch. Thank you again Fish Locker Family for sharing your lives with us.
- It is our pleasure Robyn, I am glad you enjoy joining us. 😊👍🏻🎣
That's a happy face , funny how the bacon sandwich does that to us
- Haha. It can cure a lot of ills can't it.
Where's Captain James? :-) Another superb video, as always fantastic content! Thank you to John and the Fish Locker family!
He is the best!
- I am perfectly happy myself sleeping overnight on the boat but I’m not yet happy bringing James for an overnighter. Maybe when he’s older. 😊👍🏻
Nice congers them. Would you ever do a catch & cook with a conger or not your cup of tea? And another cracking video mate 👍
- They’re good fun to catch but don’t taste good at all IMO.
I really enjoy your videos they are a great way to decompress at the end of a day. Nothing like fishing to take your mind off day to day stress if its not me doing the fishing. Thanks you!
Glad we can help you unwind at the end of the day mate. 😉👍🏻
Love it John,,perfect start to a weekend :)
- Thanks mate. 😊👍🏻
Yes fantastic video. I can't see enough of your videos now. Top fishing channel.
- Thank you very much. 😊👍🏻🎣🐟
Did the dolphin get there by accident or on porpoise 🐬🐬🐬😭😭😭😉
- I’m not saying it did it on porpoise, but it all seems a little fishy.
i bet, no matter what, it was having a whale of a time!
Just wanted to let you know, I love all of your videos and I'm absolutely charmed by your boy. Keep doing what you're doing. Peace, joy and be safe.

Hello John here i was looking at fishing websites and who do i find = John Locker on January 7, 2014 at 8:34 pm said:
Mr Lewis,
My name is John Locker, I won the sea angler yearly prize to Norway with you in 2012. I have been hoping to organise it as a trip for this easter. If I could have a chat with you at some point about what gear and tackle you would recommend for that time of year etc it would be brilliant. Thankyou. John. there you go john famous and the Uk bass record holder keep up the great videos regards to Hannah + James tight lines from your Yorkie fans.
- Haha. Where was that?
@@TheFishLocker Hi john it was here in the comments haha davelewisfishing.com/tackle-advice/norway-tackle-guide/
This lad combines skill with enthusiasm. Makes great videos which are brilliant to watch.
Thank you very much Tom. I am simply sharing what I know and love doing. Tight lines and stay safe 😊
You can not beat the smell of bacon cooking outdoors - Stay safe
- The only thing missing was a fried egg.
Good NZ morning John. Well don't know how to explain this. I could smell bacon. Not me, I was having morning coffee. Nearest neighour too far away. Imagination..? Yeah guess so. A definite YES to overnight fishing though. Although in previous comments I alluded to family overnighters in the tent as well. Tell you what mate, whatever you do I'll watch. Anyway many thanks for taking this 70+ kid fishing with you. Quality content. Keep them coming. All the best. Stay safe.
- All we are waiting for is better weather mate and we will be out filming. 😊👍🏻
@@TheFishLocker ok just give me a few minutes and I'll look for my magic wand...and wave it in the direction of Cornwall. 🤞👍
I swear you are starting to sound a little bit Cornish there John :)
- Haha. I throw a few local words in there every now and then just to keep the locals happy. 😊👍🏻🎣
Haha i was thinking exactly the same on a previous video i was watching earlier
@@TheFishLocker it will be the fishy when the ⛵ ⛵ boat's come in
Yet another fantastic video. So informative and I watch your video's over and over again.
- Thanks Nick. Glad you enjoy the vids mate. 😊👍🏻
Ho John can you not try catch some huge cod in some off your videos?
- Not really, we don’t get cod down here in the summer.
Or big pollock?
Always brings me joy when I see a video posted, keep up the good work fish locker love it!
- Thank you very much. Best wishes. 😊🎣🐟
Do you eat those eels? I was wondering why you were throwing all them back if they are a good table ( eating ) fish ? I'd rather watch you fish for good eating fish like Grouper or Cod something thats either worth filling the freezer with or selling at the market. Don't get me wrong its fun watching you catch big fish but if they're trash fish I myself would rather see trash fish caught a few times only because of their huge size other then that id like to see big eating fish caught
- We don’t get grouper here and cod are very thin on the ground in summer in our area. I already have a freezer full of fish and we are not allowed to sell our catch as we are not licensed to do so. Not every fish has to go to the table. Fishing is also just for fun sometimes 😊👍🏻🐟
Scott Hall @Scott...Conger are great to fish and John makes bringing them in look easy...it isn’t. Not a fish that most people would get excited about eating.Where I live in Northern France they sometimes use them for soup👍
I was fishing Catalina island and had a flying fish ZOOM right by my face! I think the other side of the island could hear me yell!! It is funny when those things happen! As usual, another great video! Thanks again for sharing your fun!
- Haha. Wow. I bet that shook you up a bit!!
@@TheFishLocker Yes! And we all never laughed so hard afterwards!!
I know the Japanese eat Horse Mackerel, I wonder if Scad is the same? Do you know?
- Scad is called Horse Mackerel. 😊👍🏻🐟🍽
You said that in the video. Someone wasn't paying attention!
@Grady Browning As Fish Locker says, Scad and Horse Mackerel are one and the same. They are known as Chicharro here in Portugal and taste the same as other Mackerel to me. I like them. Little ones are sometimes called Jaquinzinho. I eat some sort of Mackerel on average twice a week (14 meals a week with either meat or fish) and I really, really like smoked salmon so the Mackerels sometimes have to take a back seat.
Love it. That night fishing is great. I would be scared out of my wits. I don't think I could don it on my own. Like I said before day or night. Hangin with The Fish Locker is great anytime and anywhere. Keep on and God Bless.
- Haha. It’s not for everyone but I don’t mind it too much. I am happy in my own company and am confident in my surroundings. But you are right to be cautious. Take care and god bless. 😊👍🏻💙
what does Flapper him off mean??? 9:31

@@TheFishLocker to be fair, it could just be accidental dislikes. Anyway, some of the highest viewed videos have horrific like/dislike ratios. Just because you dislike a video, doesn't mean you won't click an advert.
Hi John - Yes please for more of these videos - Those bacon sarnies looked amazing and did I spy a hint of tomato sauce LOL - Keep safe and well - Best wishes to the family and you - Clay.

Cheers John.
Superb session John looks a right laugh
- It’s not for everyone but the fishing can be great. 😊👍🏻
Brilliant, one of your finest videos. The overnight, one, two, three dayers, on the move, are the way forward!
- The only problem about doing more than a 24 hours period is the battery life on the cameras.
Thanks for taking us along on another one of your overnighters John 👍
Definitely would like to see more of these - possibly with you targeting different species. Am now off to make myself a bacon butty, as that hit my stomach rumbling... 🤣 ATB
UPDATE: Have just finished my bacon butty (thanks), and was going to ask why you never seem to keep any of your congers for eating.
But found this fascinating website on Cornish Seafood Sustainability (which you may know of) - which implies that congers are not as plentiful as I thought, and should not be killed. www.cornwallgoodseafoodguide.org.uk/fish-guide/conger-eel.php
MuddyDuck - That website is a load of crap. Put bluntly. Haha.
The Fish Locker 🤣😂🤣
Did think you might say that, after checking on other species. As they don’t seem keen on folk catching much else than mackerel ! 🎣
MuddyDuck - Hit the nail on the head. Even though mackerel have just been in massive decline due to over fishing.
Very enjoyable and entertaining watch as usual 👍 that bacon sandwich look the dogs as well........
Thanks for sharing your wonderful knowledge
- It tasted awesome Ken. Well earned breakfast. 😉🍽🥓
Hi John,
the filter on the light is a big help. I was about to suggest turning the light into the cuddy cabin so you would be in reflected light, not as bright, but never dazzling, like a photographers umbrella.
- It’s all a learning curve mate. I’ll get it right at some point. 🎣😉
Love the over nights. You mentioned the stars and moon, that made me very happy. If you get a clear, calm night a quick look at the the moon or stars would be amazing. Thanks John the eels were a great size and loved to see them.
- I would like to but I don’t think our camera setup is good enough for it.

Thank you for great video really injoy your compony it seemed I was there and yes to the next one.
- Thanks Richard. I am glad you could join me. 😊👍🏻🎣
Like the way you exercise common sense while boating/fishing-- safety counts. In addition your ability to enjoy what you're doing- fishing/boating/cooking etc.; I've noticed that if you ask 100 people what they don't like they'll keep you going for the next month -ask them what they do like and its usually silence after not too many minutes- kind of tell you where most people live- with their dislikes- but if you want to enjoy life do it the way you are doing it. Stay safe and good luck to all.
That is a very sensible way to view life, I hold a similar opinion myself. A positive person will see positivity and opportunity. A negative person will see only negativity and looming disappointment. Best wishes Brian and take care. 😊

- I am glad that you are finding the videos so interesting and informative Robin. Take care and tight lines. 😊
Great video ,Sir. Quite an overnight adventure . Those conger eel look so slimey hehe. Cheers from Ontario ,Canada.
- They are very slimey. But good fun. 😊👍🏻
The best part about watching these videos is I can drink! Lol. I never drink while fishing on a boat! Cheers 🍺. Great vid as always
- I have never been one to drink on a boat either. Theres fishing to be done, can't waste time drinking!!!
Brilliant stuff again really enjoy all your videos but the overnights with fishing and cooking are the best.
- Thanks mate. 😊👍🏻🎣
I know absolutely zero about fishing and the sea, but your videos are so interesting and it’s great to see you are passionate about what you do. Also enjoy your massive amount of knowledge about the sea creatures and the ocean. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
- Thank you Rob, I am glad that you are enjoying the videos. We are simply sharing what we love doing. 😊👍🏻🎣
Great to see you out in the boat again John. Haven’t see a vid of yours for a while as we have been busy ourselves. Great to take the time to watch one again. Some nice eels landed. Keep up the good work mate! 👍 👍
- I know what you mean mate. We’ve been a mad house lately. On the plus side, you have plenty to catch up on. 😊👍🏻🎣
Another great video. I haven’t fished the dark since early 80’s. Good to see your seamanship and boat handling in action.
- Thank you Ken. I hope the boating tips help folks out. 😊👍🏻🎣
The Fish Locker I had fun drifting today. At mouth of Lough Foyle 5 currents meet causing unexpected tidal effects. Not up to your standard - 2 whiting and 12 mackerel - but it was great to be amongst the Dolphins and Porpoises.
Love watching your vids.....You obviously enjoy your fishing, and your personality makes it a good watch....Thank you!!
- Thank you Patrick. Yes, I LOVE my fishing. 😊
Enjoyed, thank you. I think I would enjoy the campsite on the beach with the campfire and tent. Years ago I camped out in a tent, my parents were at a luxury resort. Storms and tornados came through that night. I stayed dry and my parents room leaked and flooded.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Enjoyed as always.👍❤️it.
- Haha. That sounds like a great family story. I do love camping and can't wait to take James again when things are safer.
