This was my dads job - radio communications / operator in Da Nang from 64-66. Interested in this game. He hated the jungle but said lots of pros brought to you by the government and never slept. Says the equipment was super heavy. Don’t know much else. He has told me you’d really have to focus to tune into the station & you had a huge target on you because of the antenna
Your two platoons were up against 42 enemies, who initiated the engagement, and only suffered 10 casualties, while the enemy suffered 42. That's... a pretty decent ratio, actually.
Thanks for exposing me to this one Splat! Just wishlisted it now. It actually looks like a very intriguing very different RTS. The publisher, Games Operators, put out 911 Operator which seems very similar in some respects and which I've actually been wanting to play for a long while.
911 Operator looked promising to me, too. But it got repetitive very fast, there is unfortunately not much of a game. After an hour or two of gameplay you've seen it all, I personally don't recommend it.
0:39 "Your primary objective is to win the hearts and minds of the south vietnamese people." As always... will we ever see a game with body count missions: "Your primary objective is to kill as many vietnamese people as possible. Women, children, doesn't matter! If they're dead they count as VC." :(
@@RealSkoolmaster which is quite strange because it seems something like this would be interesting and played by people that really wouldn't appreciate that very much.
@@winns35 The majority of the time if someone is sending a message like that, they do not care that it will alienate a large portion of potential buyers nor that they could very well lose money. If they do, they get another screaming point about how people were just against their message and wrong and evil etc etc. As long as they get to throw their politics in someones face they are happy. I agree its quite strange and makes zero sense but too many people these days run based on the feels instead of facts and common sense.
USE ENGAGE!!! So frustrating lol....why do you think the engage option is there?? ...*pulling ones hair* Very nice game. Thank you for the gameplay, even if you suck. ;)
It would be rare to find a full 50 man platoon due to attrition and manpower shortages. Most platoons stood in the 30s some where as small as 20 depends on the size of the squad and need of men in the mission.
Those numbers are a bit arbitrary. A better way to explain it is as follows: A fireteam consists of up to 4 men. A squad contains 2 or 3 fireteams, while a section always contains 2 fireteams. A platoon has at least 2 squads or sections. A company has at least 2 platoons. A battalion has at least 2 companies. Etc, etc. So, a full strength platoon could be as few as 17 people or as high as 50+. A company could be as few as 35 or 150+.
28:40 I think a platoon has like 40 guys in it. Give, or take. But IDK what this game put it at :/ But, 10 guys. That's got to be a "section" size of unit (a "section" is basically a large squad....I think)
@NihlusGreen if a member of command said anything along the lines of joining the vietcong and the BS he blasted over the radio, he would be removed not just talked to like that. All of the radio banter back and forth. That is what happened in barracks, not over the radio and Damn Sure not during an active operation. This game is designed around selling an anti-war political message and disguising it in the form of "people didnt like Vietnam." I am not saying that all the soldiers loved the war or some asinine BS like that, but things didnt go down like this game portrays. People tend to.. Idk... understand that their lives are on the line? The banter makes for entertainment and sending a message. Thats about it.
@@RealSkoolmaster Dude the game takes place 10 years into a war. By this time most people who drank the kool aid where either dead or disillusioned with the war. Is the banter a little unrealistic? Yes. But it is a sacrifice you need so that the game is not straight radio silence except for orders. Which i doubt it was in real life. Service life is boring and banter always happens in routine missions add to that the time i wouldn't doubt for the airwaves to be a little relaxed due to fraternization
"I just had them walk six miles(km?) for no reason" you are already getting into the military spirit.

The "Be back by Christmas" joke never gets old, does it?
It'll get old when army leaders stop using it as an excuse to send people into a meat grinder. So never
@@wolight Congratulations! You just bought the politics these devs are selling. GG my guy.
I wish it did dude, I wish it did.

This just confirms that splat is the blindest of all human kind.
Interesting take for a game.... had me intrigued

I did the same. 911 Operator was a fun little game

Cool game. If the next missions are interesting, it might be good to make a series out of this
Yo, this game is so cool. Saw the first beta of it
I hope you manage to get a full playthrough of this either here or Twitch!
I love how Splat’s cartography experience is coming into play, him being all tactical and stuff
Please make this a series . You are very good at this and your commentary makes the game more entertaining to watch.
After 1min: "seems like first mission is about dropping napalm to local rice fields!"
Dude you rock in this. please play more
It reminds me in a way of Deadnaught. Where you are in a command center making choices and less directly involved in the action.
I enjoyed this one

I was part of the kickstarter on this game only one I ever did.
This was really fun to watch, I'd love to see more
Added to wishlist on Steam. Looks like a potential gem!
If you hvaent by now, its on sale for 3.99 on steam now. Let the necromancy commence
Goooood morning vietnam!!!
In a game like this natural professional voice lines are a MUST and this just doesn't deliver its horribly robotic .
one day we'll get to play as the good guys in Vietnam
Play some more of this splat!
Liked your review, easy to follow along and it seemed you were learning with us :)
The frivolous general!
😂😂😂😂
No fortunate son?
Kinda Cool Concept
It is rather impressive : much harder to design/produce than might seem.
Def want to see more of this game
That one 'niner' kinda gets in your head after a while
This game looks like a lot of fun.
Call in a broken arrow and be done with it.
Sounds like Bill Paxton. Rest In Peace.
Dunno why but Full Metal Jacket comes to mind. Me play this long time.
If you're into those movies I totally recommend Platoon and Siege of Firebase Gloria
Engages in long conversation with LT Kovaks and then bitches about tying up the freq. Ah, to be Commander. :D
Comming to switch!
Can you please do more episodes
I know this is old but think you should of paid more attention to the tutorial, it has a learning curve
comms reminds me of operation flashpoint
Pretty sure if a platoon Sergeant said "I'd join the Vietcong" no matter the context he wouldn't be a platoon Sergeant anymore.
exactly. This game is full of inaccuracies. Its trying to sell a political stance.

vhaj don't you play flamberge aegean?
Very interesting
are they gonna implement "Wind Talkers" into this
I very much doubt it. I don't remember hearing a lot of that stuff during Vietnam.
Squad = 10
Platoon = 50
Regiment = 100
Battalion = 1000
Company, not regiment. Regiments are groups of battalions.

Games about “The Shit.”
The difference in volume between your commentary and the game is jarring.

Awww narrator sounds like Bill Paxton :(
Dasy cutters? Was not napalm lol but good try
Im from vietnam
Did they really talk this much on the radio? Those are paragraphs and paragraphs of text
Interesting how one of the soldiers thinks the US is there to install a said democracy... :P I won't say more.
This better have the best soundtrack ever. Or gtfo... my mistake. I was hoping for battlefield Vietnam next gen.I got shuffling boards day out
