This a wonderful very informative upbeat video on the Scamp. I think you all did very well in presenting most of the information an interested person would need. Thank you.
Excellent explanation of the mechanical workings of the scamp. I'm looking at purchasing one soon but was hesitant that I wouldn't know how to deal with the mechanical part. Thanks to you I have a better understanding of it all. Great job!!
Had a 2018 13’ Scamp and loved it so much. Incredible workmanship and quality. Only reason I sold it was because of health problems. After 4 years, still got my original investment out of it. Great product.
I’ve been looking online at scamps for myself. This is the first video I found that wasn’t from the manufacturer that doesn’t make it look larger than it is. I think this would be perfect and easy for me to do myself.
We think it’s perfect for one or two adults. Of course, it will take some careful consideration on how best to use the space available. We took a look at our regular camping gear and came to the realization that a lot of what we packed was simple convenience item type of stuff that we could get along without. It felt good to purge all the gear we carried but did not really NEED. I hope you enjoy whatever camper you end up with.
Scamp has definitely done some improvements the last few years. One area that need improvement, is needing a pump to drain the shower and having separate gray and black drain connections. Having a tankless water heater is really nice, our Casita trailer has a tank type water heater. I really like the tree shaped support for the overhead cabinet, versus the twisted metal that they used to use. We have the metal top on our stove, I agree with you, the glass is much nicer. Scamp has far more build configurations than Casita, Casita doesn’t even offer a 13’ model anymore. I like your trailer, very cool.
Yes, a gravity type shower pan drain and separate grey and black tank connections would be some improvements that Scamp could make. We like the tree shapes cabinet support too. We did not even know Casita stopped producing the 13’ trailer! Thank you so much!
I think you’ve got the best walk thru of a Scamp trailer that I’ve ever seen. Well done. Learned a few more things about the Scamp trailer. Thanks for posting.
It is insanely small. I have read on sites how many people regretted the 13 ft once they walked in it. People don’t do enough research. The 16 ft is so much more for just 3 feet
No-"seeum refers to a little knat like biting bug common in the South that is able to fly through ordinary screens. Has nothing to do with the ability to see through the screen.
You did a great job of showing us the Scamp and congratulations on your new purchase My wife and I are shopping trailers and since my Mom and Dad had one we're leaning that way.. 😉I hope you didn't forget to turn off the heater.
Really? I did not think a command strip would even work on that little holster thing. Do you hang the remote itself with the command strip or do you hang the little plastic holster that the remote slides into?
I like Scamps but for the money I'm underwhelmed and glad we rebuilt a Trilluim from scratch. That Group 27 battery will not get you very far in boondocking particularly based on the power needs of that trailer -aircon, fridge waterpump, furnace. You will need to consider upgrading to at least 200ah lithuim battery plus solar panels to even last a couple days boondocking
I have a 1970 Boler. I bought it in 1980. I pulled that trailer all over the USa and Canada... coast coast. Your Uhaul is exactly the same layout as my Boler. Bolers originate d from Winnipeg Manitoba Canada.
I agree with you, Toby. Plus you can park that little camper just about any place you want and have a much better view than some old hotel room. I sure appreciate you taking the time to watch and hope you are having good times. Thank you for the comment.

Love your scamp. I did notice that there was a scratch or crack on the left side of the 120 volt outlet. You don't want water leaking in. Check it out. Hope I'm wrong and it just a shadow angle or something.
I reviewed the video and I see what you’re talking about. I’ll have to go and inspect that to see if it is a crack or scratch or something else. Thank you for bringing that to my attention.
What a fun video and very thorough on your adorable scamp! Tysm for sharing! And yes Cathleen's hair is great! My Mom was a red head 🥰 Fun and safe travels you two! 🎉
I have always been interested in the scamp. But i would want to add some more storage for sure. Dont forget the ceiling has nothing on it much. You could add storage up there.
Yeah, I don’t think they do that from the factory. However, I think there are a lot of old scamps out there that could probably be purchased and gutted.

Hey! Thanks for your FB reply. We are looking forward to hitting the road and having some adventures as well. We will do our best to share what we learn along the way.
Nice little camper I’m a bit surprised they don’t install tinted windows for the UV rays not to come in to keep the camper cooler How big is this camper? How heavy is it? What is the model? Please?
I agree, window tint should be an option at least! Ours is a 13’ foot long Scamp. The Scamp Model is “13‘ Standard with Layout 2”. It weighs right around 1500lbs empty. You can see more info at www.scamptrailers.com/showroom/13-trailers
Cpl suggestions, cover and lock your propane tanks, lock the door to the on demand, before they get stolen. And on demand takes water to run thru for a while before the hot water comes out. Would you be considering Solar panels?
Great suggestions. We want to incorporate some type of storage box over the propane tanks too. Good to know it takes some time for the water to heat up on the on-demand. We are going to try solar with our little Jackery when we boondock.
Bought a new 13' Scamp in 2016. Super fun. Only issue was that the camper is so low to the ground that it was almost impossible to empty the black and gray water tanks.
Great video! I have been considering a starter camper. I can't tow much...1500 pounds with a 150 pound hitch on my Crosstrek. What do you pull this with and did you have to have your vehicle wired to accommodate lights and electric brakes?
Not mouse fur, lol… it is lovingly referred to as “rat fur“. :-). And the screens are called “no-seeums” because they stop even the super annoying tiny little flying bugs called “no-seeums” from getting through the screens. And that’s a good thing, because they are as bad as having mosquitoes getting in. And you don’t want to charge your Jackery with that 12 V socket unless you are driving and your house battery is being charged from the vehicle’s alternator. If you plug it in to charge it, you will just drain your house battery just to charge your Jackery (unless when you are stationary, you are plugged into shore power). And that strip that is called “vent” above your refrigerator, is so that the heat produced by the refrigerator has a place to vent out to so it doesn’t overheat.
You’ll need to find a local RV repair shop in Albuquerque or google how to do it yourself. Scamp has independent drivers who will deliver a scamp, but it was expensive in my opinion.
Yep, we defiantly needed the A/C so we included it as an option when we ordered the Scamp. We upgraded the A/C to include the heat strip (electric heat) and the soft start (won’t trip 110v outlet circuit breakers when it starts). We haven’t tried it out yet. Some comments left by others said that the A/C was too loud. We will see!
Seems like you had to add everything as extras. Must hav added up a lot of $. Still use it? I wonder how you liked it over time, and if you would still recommend it.
If i were you I would consider making a box to cover the propane containers, A good wind rain/snow storm will take them off no matter how tight they are attached.Ive heard stories about them coming off...
Well, ya that’s how it comes across. They said that they recommended waiting to fill that fresh water tank till you were close to your spot. For example, fill up at the last place you can find potable water before you get to your camping spot instead of when you are leaving your driveway. That makes sense for fuel economy too.
Ya that's a pretty bad deal that the trailer tank straps are not capable of handling water being filled prior to camping, this clearly is a toy and not set up for boondocking strictly a campground with hook ups.
Gracias.
I hope this translates correctly. There is a water heater. It is a “on demand“ water heater. I pointed it out in the video, there is a panel that opens up on the back left side of the Scamp and the on-demand water heater is inside. There is a water tank. It is a white plastic cube with two metal straps, holding it down. In the video I show the water tank it is under one of the seat cushions beneath a panel. It’s not very big don’t think it would hold more than about 20 gallons. Thank you for your comment!
Dean, when we ordered in April of ‘22, we were told 18 months. However, they somehow increased production and our Scamp was ready in only 10 months. I believe it’s even faster now.
I am 6’2” tall, and can stretch out comfortably with room to spare. The bed is 76” long and 52 5/8” wide. I made a video of all the dimensions, that you should check out for all the measurements. Episode 3 - Measurements th-cam.com/video/edYk28ntAsE/w-d-xo.html
@@scampchannelyou might consider the spray upholstery cleaners the car detailing companies sell. Adam’s Polishes out of Colorado sells a really good one we use in our cars and in the house too.
Well, it depends upon the size of the scamp (there are THREE SIZES: 13ft., 16ft. or 19ft) and the different layouts offered for each of the sizes . On the Scamp you saw in my video, which is a 13ft, there are TWO layouts. My layout offers a full sized bed and a bathroom/shower, so it sleeps only 2 adults. The other layout offered for the 13ft offers a full sized bed and but with bunk beds instead of a shower, so it sleeps 4 adults.
@@houseoferin777 I don’t know how much that vehicle pulls. What does the manufacturer say it can tow? I do know that the lightest Scamp is just under 1500 pounds. So, if you’re able to tow that much weight or more, you should be good to go! Just keep in mind that anything you add to the trailer (food, equipment, clothing) will add to that weight.
Would seriously upgrade shower curtain and then use the factory one to block off toilet, it looks as if there's plenty of room to put in a rod above toilet towards shower for install if you want to keep it dry.
Not sure if you ever found it but for a toilet seat cover use a bird cage tidy cover which goes on the base of the cage similar to a cockatiel or a budgie cage size and it’s elasticated and waterproof fits on the caves the other way round
velcro pieces will hold anything to the mouse fur, good for alot of stuff to hang, and put stuff, ie. hanging fruit bag, pictures, item holders and other stuff.
Nice just a shame they cheeped out on the cupboard you had to put trim back in place on. 15:28 . That and no hold open hinges. Not a high quality build the way the door ripped the screen that and bare cheap particle board instead of a good plywood in that closet.
Agree with all of that! Recently we experienced a whole new problem. Coming around the corner on a mountain pass, I faced a toaster sized rock in the middle of the road. I couldn’t swerve around it, so I had to straddle it. It went underneath the Subaru just fine, but it struck the tongue, jack, guard, plate, and the shower pan water pump underneath the trailer. I don’t know why they have the water pump mounted to the bottom of the trailer completely exposed but it got smacked by the rock and it cracked the housing. I’ll be making a video soon on the replacement of the pump and I think I’m going to replace the tongue jack with a power jack.
That’s a fantastic question. Couldn’t say for sure. I’m thinking it would be better someplace else too, but where? I guess if you sacrificed some closet space it could be relocated. Thank you for watching!
No, but since that price varies we decided not to include it. MSRP is about $27K but the manufacturer will give pretty good discounts and incentives at time of order to save you thousands.
There are many things I like about these small lightweight campers. SAFETY CONCERNS For this particular model I have some safety concerns as well as design suggestions. From a common sense perspective, I noticed the potential for deadly harm to occur. My unsafe situations observations are in the order as they appeared in video. 1) The outdoor shower is right beside a 120 volt electrical outlet. The threat is electrocution short. 2) The furnace air intake vent is right beside the exhaust vent. The threat is acute carbon monoxide poisoning. 3) The height of the electric light in the bathroom has potential for electric shock unless it is waterproof and it is certified safe by the Underwriters Laboratories approved. 4) The bottom of the cupboard above the stove burner is fiberglass and could melt, drop contents down onto the burner. This is a fire hazzard. 5) The contents in th cupboard above the burner could catch on fire because no insulation to restrict or abate the heat. Fire hazzard. 6) When boondocking the camper clean water reservoir should be able to travel full. 7) The waste tanks surely must be designed to transport wastes to disposal site without compromising integrity. You would not want wastewaters (WW) to contaminate the living space because they couldn't tolerate the WW sloshing around when driving over rough terrain. 8) It sounded like the on demand hot water heater could be gas powered. Is there an outside exhaust for the hot water heater? If gas, and if not vented, this would make a carbon monoxide poisoning event likely. 9) Does the carbon monoxide dectector have a battery backup? 10) Is there a smoke detector. If not, one should be wired in with battery backup. 11) Make sure that one of the back bed area windows will pop out so you can escape from the camper. I had to escape from our popup camper due to a skunk. OTHER POTENTIAL PRODUCT ISSUES & SUGGESTIONS A) The moleskin fabric on the shower ceiling will eventually mold, starting at the seams. Try a different type of surface or finish. B) I would like for the system lights to turn off in individual areas too. Saves battery charge. C) The cupboards should already have a means installed to hold them open. D) The table leg is very narrow at the bottom and could potentially poke a hole through the floor. There should be a metal plate immediately below it. E) The company should design better supports for the bottom board of the top front cupboard. Have fun!
Ya, it’s a long time. I advise you to put an order in. Sometimes people drop their orders and they can take their build out and turn it into your build out. Even if something changes and you don’t want it when it’s ready, you’ll have no problem selling it. You’ll probably make a profit!
You pull the BLACKWATER valve FIRST when emptying then close the blackwater valve and open the GRAY WATER to wash out the sewer hose with gray water. Of course, them use 5he hose provided at the dump to each the sewer hose better.
It’s perfect for weekends. But also for long-distance traveling as long as you’re willing to either have hook ups, or refill your tank while you’re passing through towns.
There is an outside LED by the door and over the propane tanks. No outside canopy (we opted for one of those octagon shaped tents with mosquito netting that sets up over a picnic table instead). We added a pretty good trailer tongue lock and a GPS tracker for security. We did not want or need cameras because one of us will hop out and help back up the trailer if it’s needed (it’s only 13’ long). Heck, I might be able to move it by hand!
Plastic is a material that is made from organic polymer chains of petro-chemicals, while fiberglass is an inorganic compound that is made from glass fibers. Fiberglass is a combination of resin and glass fibers which creates a fiber reinforced plastic. Fiberglass is made by adding resin to the glass fibers. Different resins can then be added to make the product stronger, tougher, and less brittle.
@@scampchannel Wait so there’s no plastic in fiber glass at all? For some reason, I’ve always thought fiber glass is a type of plastic that’s more durable than regular plastic.
Well, it’s not technically a plastic. It’s a “resin”.. its more like an acrylic infused with strong strands of glass fiber. Check out the following video link. About one minute, and you will see how the fiberglass is sprayed into a mold to make the Scamp. th-cam.com/video/9fnU-D2lWG0/w-d-xo.html
When you are at a campsite with sewer connections.Once you're connected, don't leave your connections open.Because there's flies like fruit.Flies inside the sewer that will come up into your rig.Simply open and close your connections as you need to dump them
How is it that the fruit flies get past the water held in the J trap under the sink? I know that that water prevents odors from flowing back up the lines from the sewer, what did it also block insects?

If i were you I would consider making a box to cover the propane containers, A good wind rain/snow storm will take them off no matter how tight they are attached.Ive heard stories about them coming off...
Thank you! It’s been added to our list.
Really enjoyed this video 😁
I'm so glad!
So the purpose of the fresh water tank is for boondocking............ but you can't fill it and go boondocking.
Well, ya that’s how it comes across. They said that they recommended waiting to fill that fresh water tank till you were close to your spot. For example, fill up at the last place you can find potable water before you get to your camping spot instead of when you are leaving your driveway. That makes sense for fuel economy too.
@@scampchannel You can always get a Berkey (sp?) filter system.
Very much appreciate you showing that no Jack or wrench is included.
We like seeing the underneath. My husband used to build fiberglass boats.
Ya that's a pretty bad deal that the trailer tank straps are not capable of handling water being filled prior to camping, this clearly is a toy and not set up for boondocking strictly a campground with hook ups.
I was coming to ask this same question, why would they make it so cheap that you can’t even carry water for when you go somewhere without water… yikes
Great video. Nice camper. What tow vehicle is that?
It’s a 2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT.
Great,
Thanks. I have my first Subaru, a2022 Ascent. I love it!
Did he say at 12 o'clock you turn to 3 o'clock for 9 o'clock at 3 and 12 o'clock after 6 o'clock the 9-3-12-9-12-3 is so?
I’m trying to remember exactly how it goes, it’s easier when I’m actually standing in front of it.
How long is the wait once you order one..?
Dean, when we ordered in April of ‘22, we were told 18 months. However, they somehow increased production and our Scamp was ready in only 10 months. I believe it’s even faster now.
What's the width, can a person, that's 6' tall sleep width length, or do you have to sleep length, from front to back
I am 6’2” tall, and can stretch out comfortably with room to spare.
The bed is 76” long and 52 5/8” wide.
I made a video of all the dimensions, that you should check out for all the measurements.

When you were in the shower where do you hang your towel so it doesn’t get wet
I just hung it on the door knob and then put the plastic shower curtain liner over it.
Do you know if you go through a tunnel with out turning off your propane off and get caught you will be arrested
I do now. Thanks.
I love this scamp very nice and would work just for me, my fur baby and/or a friend. Blessings😍😇🙏🏽💗
Wonderful! Hope you get one.
How do you wash the mouse for, even though you get it wet, how do you actually clean it
Well, if I remember correctly, they recommend a bristle brush and very mild detergent.
@@scampchannelyou might consider the spray upholstery cleaners the car detailing companies sell. Adam’s Polishes out of Colorado sells a really good one we use in our cars and in the house too.
Can you only buy new directly through Scamp?
Yeah
What is the sleep arrangements in a scamp
Well, it depends upon the size of the scamp (there are THREE SIZES: 13ft., 16ft. or 19ft) and the different layouts offered for each of the sizes . On the Scamp you saw in my video, which is a 13ft, there are TWO layouts.
My layout offers a full sized bed and a bathroom/shower, so it sleeps only 2 adults.
The other layout offered for the 13ft offers a full sized bed and but with bunk beds instead of a shower, so it sleeps 4 adults.
What kind of car do you pull with.
2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT. It allow us to safely tow up to 3,500 lbs.
Does scamp make one light enuff for a 2014 ford fiesta to pull?
@@houseoferin777 I don’t know how much that vehicle pulls. What does the manufacturer say it can tow? I do know that the lightest Scamp is just under 1500 pounds. So, if you’re able to tow that much weight or more, you should be good to go! Just keep in mind that anything you add to the trailer (food, equipment, clothing) will add to that weight.
Would seriously upgrade shower curtain and then use the factory one to block off toilet, it looks as if there's plenty of room to put in a rod above toilet towards shower for install if you want to keep it dry.
That is a pretty good idea!
Not sure if you ever found it but for a toilet seat cover use a bird cage tidy cover which goes on the base of the cage similar to a cockatiel or a budgie cage size and it’s elasticated and waterproof fits on the caves the other way round
Hey, that’s a great idea! Thank you.
Is that the claustrophobia model I'm already claustrophobic just watching this cramped up video! 🙃🙃🙃🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😱😱😱
@@AnthonyKeith-xs4or aww it’s not bad at all man, I spent this weekend in it and slept cozy!
Thanks for sharing!
Thank YOU for watching!
velcro pieces will hold anything to the mouse fur, good for alot of stuff to hang, and put stuff, ie. hanging fruit bag, pictures, item holders and other stuff.
Oh! That’s a GREAT TIP! We will try that out soon. Thank you.
Neat little trailer I would definitely tint them windows
We still have not tinted the windows, but we probably will.
Why is thee Heat next to Frig?🧐
That’s a fantastic question. Couldn’t say for sure. I’m thinking it would be better someplace else too, but where? I guess if you sacrificed some closet space it could be relocated. Thank you for watching!
Question: Did i miss the total price?
No, but since that price varies we decided not to include it. MSRP is about $27K but the manufacturer will give pretty good discounts and incentives at time of order to save you thousands.
There are many things I like about these small lightweight campers.
SAFETY CONCERNS
For this particular model I have some safety concerns as well as design suggestions.
OTHER POTENTIAL PRODUCT ISSUES & SUGGESTIONS
A) The moleskin fabric on the shower ceiling will eventually mold, starting at the seams.
Have fun!
Those are great observations! Thanks.
Am scared like hell now!😳
I would have loved to be able to get a Scamp. But the waiting period was way too long.
Ya, it’s a long time. I advise you to put an order in. Sometimes people drop their orders and they can take their build out and turn it into your build out. Even if something changes and you don’t want it when it’s ready, you’ll have no problem selling it. You’ll probably make a profit!
@@scampchannel I went with another brand. Couldn't wait that long. Still no bad with the weight, 2200llbs for a 17 footer.
That’s not bad wait at all for a 17 foot trailer. Congratulations.
Velcro will also stick to the mouse fir nicely!
Oh we will try that!
might be an inverter next to the Brake Controller.
I think the inverter was next to the on demand water heater though.
It is a 12v power distribution for the trailer lights... Just a bunch of nuts holding down the running outside lights...
Thanks!
I would be standing outside for hours trying to unlock the door! I have trouble unlocking a regular 1 key door!
Once you do it a few times, it’s actually pretty easy.
You pull the BLACKWATER valve FIRST when emptying then close the blackwater valve and open the GRAY WATER to wash out the sewer hose with gray water. Of course, them use 5he hose provided at the dump to each the sewer hose better.
Yup black, then grey. Thanks!
I want a tiny Scamp but was forced to get an older R pod.
What’s an R pod like? Does it meet your needs?
What model year?
It’s a 2023
Back up 📷 or side cameras part of security system
Weight please!❤
Next time we swing by a truck stop with scales, we will weigh it and get back to you.
Travel packs are good for storing clothes in small spaces
For my clothing and items that will do just fine, but for HERS…… we gonna need more storage.
Scamp has a lot of nerve charging what they do !Everything in that camper is the cheapest that company could find.
But good luck and enjoy it.
I am not sure if everything in the scamp is the cheapest item that Scamp could find, but we are pretty sure we will enjoy having this little camper.
@@scampchannel I’m sure you will have fun.
Dual rear lights for bikes = Smart! 😎 A Big Like!
Agree with y' all, change for the nonsense up top mouse fur enclosure in the shower.
We agree!
Must be a weekend camper. Tank's 😢 are probably real small.
It’s perfect for weekends. But also for long-distance traveling as long as you’re willing to either have hook ups, or refill your tank while you’re passing through towns.
No-see-em screen is for mosquitoes (that are very tiny and can fit through standard screen mesh)
Great idea!
Whats the price of that one
$23,322
Cooking grease is gonna love that mouse fur.
UGG I know! I’m gonna have to do my cooking outside! Maybe just use the inside burner for soups, rice, that sort of thing.
Can it be replaced with something else.
Also ,no outside canopy out side lights..or security..
Is fiberglass just thick plastic?

Cool. I didnt know they still made scamps.
They’ve been making them a long time!
I never heard you say what you paid for this unit

How much?

When you are at a campsite with sewer connections.Once you're connected, don't leave your connections open.Because there's flies like fruit.Flies inside the sewer that will come up into your rig.Simply open and close your connections as you need to dump them
How is it that the fruit flies get past the water held in the J trap under the sink? I know that that water prevents odors from flowing back up the lines from the sewer, what did it also block insects?
I want one. Even used ones cost $$$ because they're so popular.
They really hold their value because they are fiberglass.
@@scampchannel I've been looking on and off for years.
