As a former mid-westerner (grew up in Madison, Wisconsin), I really appreciate your no-nonsense and practical approach. This video (and all of them) is very helpful! I also really enjoy hearing that upper mid-west accent! :-)
Great Video! I decided on a Casita after 50 years of tent camping . No issues at all with the Casita after a year! No doors falling off . Thanks for the honesty and travel review.👍😊
@@ladyandthescamp People actually do pull Casita with small cars. I don’t think the Four cylinder car would work very well. The Casita base price has gone way up because of fiberglass costs. But, still worth it in my opinion. Great upgrade for me from tent camping. I like little and simply!! Thanks for Video .
The cons you listed about the breakdowns, sounds like rush mfg due to the high rv demand and problems getting supplies. I loved watching your series and true honesty. Thank you for sharing and be safe.
Girl, you are a pro! Not sure if you were in television as a career but the camera loves you! You do a wonderful job and also love your philosophical thoughts when you're out camping. Please keep the stories coming. Just love you guys!
I can't decide what I love better...your overall facial expressions OR the great video editing for emphasis on your analysis of the Scamp experience OH, both actually 😻😻😻
Thanks for the video! We had been thinking about buying a camper and in the summery of 2024 we happened to drive by the Scamp's factory in Backhus, MN-we did not even realize it was relatively close to the cottage! So, we spent one hour checking out various models and talking to a salesman. Although we've never had a camper trailer, we've done a lot of tent camping, so I guess ANY camper will be a huge improvement for us. Besides, we don't want to pull something big and cumbersome. We would consider buying a tent shelter where we could spend most of the time cooking, reading, socializing and relaxing. Also, I've read a lot about lithium batteries (and solar panels) that some people use in trailers; whereas they can't power electrical appliances, they provide ample juice to charge/power cell phones, flashlights, LED lights, computers/Chromebooks, radios and the like. Or we could just buy a small, quiet generator. In any way, I'm going to join some camper/scamp-related forums and participate in discussions to learn as much as possible before making the final decision. Enjoy your trips (I'll watch your other videos later)!
Hey scamp lady !! Great video.. always .... people who are looking to buy the scamp need to watch it.. your honesty professionalism, and humor is spot on... thanks. God bless you and your family.... ric in nor cal
We have a 1976 Boler - pretty much the same as a scamp. We bought ours in 2020. This year the we could sell it for more than double what we paid. We are having a blast with ours as well. We also like limited storage, less is definitely more. We are a family of three so we do have the extra bunk to place things which does help. Figuring out exactly what we need is an ongoing process but we are getting there.
Nice. I bet three fit really well. If my kids take after their dad, in terms of height, we will have to figure something else out. :) Glad you are loving yours!
Yep, this was a good run-down of the Scamp 13’. We owned a ‘79 Scamp 13’ for three years, 2011 -2014. No A/C, much smaller roof vent, louvered crank out windows, furnace, and ‘fridge. The door was the main problem area for us. The furnace was pretty ineffective. In 2012 we had a massive intense hail storm which beat the hell out of our house walls, roof, and windows, and pounded our truck, breaking out the windshield. The Scamp, parked in the front driveway, had zero damage except for one window pane broken. So, yeah, some issues, but I would gladly buy another one. Good Vibrations
The top hinge of our porta-potty door tore off. Initially I was going to ask Scamp for a new door. I realized I could easily fix it by the old toothpick trick. I used pieces of wood toothpicks to stuff the holes and re-screwed in the teeny screws. Works great. Eventually we will probably replace the doors with solid wood. We already replaced the table, it was too small. Love our 2020 Scamp. We have traveled from CA to Miami and back, even survived the Texas poler freeze with below zero temps, and no electricity. We were stuck for 8 days, But we made it, and now have a story to tell.
I think we will replace the doors, too, as they keep falling off. Scamp should probably find a better way to increase longevity, but in the meantime, we keep fixing stuff! Thanks for watching!
I want a revie of one with the potty room. A must in my book because we don't need the bunks (just bubby and me). Thanks for the review! Much appreciated. Loved it.
Thx for the video.. I'm just gonna leave it attached to my Ram 1500 when I don't have a place to storage it.. I like the fact that it's small.. I live in a cold place and it would be perfect for keeping warm... These things also never leak.. Found a guy selling a 2008 for 13000...
Nice job. Pros and cons were described well. Your objectivity is well received. I didn’t know the part about Scamps being so customizable at the factory. I have a new Casita spirit deluxe, and while they offer 4 or 5 different layouts, each one has its pros and cons. My layout improves as I remove some of the “comfort” features. The big dining table and the seat back cushions are now in my garage! Thanks for your unique perspective.
Yeah, I like those Casitas. They seem a step above the Scamps. I think, if you have enough money, you could really customize a Scamp really specifically to your needs. We're probably going to hack some more stuff before it's all over. :) Thanks for watching.
My 2010 13 with bath was purchased pre-covid and I paid top dollar then. I could sell it today for at least 2k more so this is a trailer that really IS an investment. I travel solo so have plenty of space, more than needed. The cons you mentioned haven't been an issue for me although I have had a door fall off. The cabinet doors are lightweight so it's to be expected (even in most other trailers) but I found it fairly easy to repair even on the road. I keep wood glue, spot ties and duct tape in my tool bag and can fix most anything with those!😉Overall, this is the best little trailer and I can't imagine selling it. Here in California the registration is cheap at about $50 for 3 year tag. I insured for under $60 per year and have spent under $150 in replacement parts which I was able to do myself. I'm a senior female so easy hitching is a plus. Great video!
Excellent vid. Appreciate the candor. Not many cons, maybe, but at this cost level-I'm okay with the cost-there shouldn't be this magnitude of QC problems. You un-sold me! 😉
Another great video. Yes, campers as almost everything in life are a tradeoff of size, convenience and priorities. Sorry about the 1st year issues, however that is true. After the initial break in period all things mechanical/electrical will function as designed for years until a failure occurs. We are looking forward to fall camping before winterizing!
My husband and I have been following you since Day 1. We also picked up our 2021 13 footer/no bath in May (former tenters as well) so we have been enjoying your adventures. Totally agree with all pros and cons…one more con..how bout those shades for “privacy”. Lol. We definitely have had a few “quality control” issues and while they have been quick to rectify I think it’s definitely a quality control issue because of so many people wanting them. We look forward to watching more adventures and are wishing you quite a few more years of being able to trap your kids in with you. It goes by before you know it.
Well, that is so nice. Thanks! YES! The "privacy" shades are a joke. We didn't realize they were totally see-through for WAY too long! Congrats on your purchase, too! Enjoy the travels!
Thank you ! We have a 13 standard no bathroom and love it. We take a 3,000 mile trip every year it holds up well but things do seem to shake apart. Pass tought door for shore power is a little cheep had to replace that two times now. Good review ! Love your chanel look forward to more.
Informative with fun production! Kudos! Love these "not a sales pitch" honest, real-world, pros & cons videos. Great summary. Useful. Agree with all your points and heard some new ones. I too thought Scamps were expensive, - well they are - but not compared to other hand-built small manufacturers, which tend to have better longevity and resale. Compared to those, Scamp is in the low end (sadly, all are priced too high). Looking at the mass produced trailers, I have been horrified by the catastrophic problems from wheel bearings and frames breaking to the inevitable water leak cancer ... besides the no resale. However, a 2 year wait for any of these low production quality (relative) campers is nuts - I don't care how good they are. I'm finding an alternative.
@@ladyandthescamp Yes, I saw how you got your camper, pricing, additions, and problems. Thanks! (Sadly, I stopped watching everyone's "camping" videos, because going nuts with envy ☹️). Another channel you may like is Playing With Sticks. Has a similar family honest vibe.
Thanks for sharing. I love the cons list. It's honest and real. I bet kiddos love it (and I bet mine would love it too). Though, from one adult to another, that door man! lol. Still, it looks like a wonderful little trailer. I love my tent, low maintenance, easy to setup, very light weight. But! I'm not gonna lie ... if it rains? I'm thinking ... "would it not be nice to be in a trailer instead?" (for that reason, we likely would crawl back into the van). Another con for the tent ... the drying ... ah! The wait for it to dry ... for everything to dry ... there are times when I think to myself, "hurry UP!" LOL.
Yeah, there are pros and cons to tent camping, too. I like both. But with kids, a trailer is so much less work when you get there and when you leave. Also, less sand in sleeping bags. :)
I did some van camping in an outback b4 I got my teardrop trailer in June and I liked sleeping in my vehicle.. had refrigerator and usb fans with jackery... window screens for air flow... was very comfy.. oh and almost forgot most important 4 inch foam mattress
Long time tent camper here. The last time we tent camped, there came a several day torrential downpour. The load-out to go home was a muddy mess. We threw the tent, and everything in it, into a nearby dumpster rather than trash out the interior of our Bronco. Within a month, we found a used ‘79 Scamp, from a friend of ours in the neighborhood. We have a new Casita on order, delivery date sometime next year. Happy Camping
Another great video. We've watched you guys, since the beginning. It's been entertaining, funny, informative. Have really appreciated your honesty and real life travels, especially with 2 small children. We ended up buying an R-Pod but only because we just didn't want to wait 2 years and travel from the Oregon coast to Backus and back again. Looking forward to your next scamp adventures. Ohhhhhhhh, you look absolutely amazing. What a difference between camping mom and professional Gal. Just saying.
Thanks for the compliment: it's all smoke and mirrors! (good lighting). I thought about an Rpod, too, as I think they are awesome. Maybe when the kids move out. The Armadillos are super cool, too. So many options.
As with a lot of things, there are trade offs or compromises to be made. Some of these are pretty alarming, but it seems like you’re still happy and valuing the important aspects of it all. Love the videos-just found the channel. We’ve got two under two right now. I want us to have something like this soon. With the long lead times everywhere I better make a decision quickly!
Thank you for sharing. The Scamp quality issues are unacceptable. It's definitely a poorly manufactured camper with all the quality issues, especially for the price. WOW. I agree, I would be extremely disappointed. Scamp should offer you a new scamp without issue. I watched your video when you first purchased this camper and you were so excited. I was happy for you. I was in the market for one myself. However, I decided to purchase a used 2017 Coachmen Clipper Pop Up camper LS and don't regret a thing. Of course, outside regular maintenance it has held up to the test of time.
I unfortunately sold my 16’ Scamp just before the resale prices boomed. Oh well. Did the same with a Westfalia camper, couldn’t get rid of it until I sold it for a song! Today they’re going for forty grand.
Got you covered. Everything I did is here: th-cam.com/video/qDuJ5S8C9LI/w-d-xo.html And I linked all the products I use here: sites.google.com/view/ladyandthescamp/home?authuser=1
Love your honest assessment after 1 year. We own a 1974 Boler (the original Scamp) and LOVE it! We plan on taking it from BC to Quebec next summer and be gone for 3 months. No children though, so a bit more space for us. BTW, you have very funky glasses. What brand are they? :)
Thanks!!! All my glasses are Maui Jim. It’s a small midwestern company and they make them actually there. Their sunglasses are seriously amazing. When you fish, you can see through the water when you are wearing them.
I love your videos first of all! They’re very helpful. I heard you say that you’ve never had a problem with Swaying. Do you have a sway bar? I’m currently ordering my scamp and looking at the options. Mine would be a 16 foot. I have a truck to pull it so I was just wondering going through the mountains or on a windy day would I need a sway bar in your opinion? Thanks for all of your advice for us. Newbies out there it’s very helpful.
I'm glad they are helpful. :) We have never had a problem with sway and we don't have a sway bar. But ours is smaller and our car is closer to the ground, so I don't know if that matters. Maybe you do need one with a bigger rig?
Always smiles and chuckles coming from this end when watching your videos😅. Your little guy smelling the leaves instead of the flowers😂. Little sweetie pie. Would you be able to tell me what camera you have installed and is it installed inside or out? Thank you so much for putting smiles in my day🤗 Wanda
Airstream and Scamp have excellent resale values. Airstreams are super expensive which makes the Scamp more attractive for first time buyers. I never understand why people buy 25-30 ft trailers for their first purchase which have bad resale value if they decide to sell it.
Just bought one for a reasonable price of $500.00 but its got its problems , it was repainted and peeling but nothing I can't fix however the roof is sinking in Texas hot sun due to rooftop AC weight , again I think I can fix that too . All in all I fell I got a good bargain on a super light weight camper.
Thank you for your information. We are considering getting a 13 foot without air conditioning. Do you think the Fan is enough? Thank you. Also could you pass the outside shower head in through the window to take a shower inside if you needed to? Kim
I don’t think you could fit it, no, not without modifications. But, you’d get everything wet, as the walls are cloth. Nothing is waterproof inside, so you’d have to waterproof it. You might just get the 13 with the bathroom if you want a shower. It would be fine for just two people. Also, if I could do it again, no, I would not get air con. We didn’t get to choose, so we took it, but I could do without. We haven’t gone in really hot non-shaded places yet, though, so maybe I’d change my mind? Depends on where you will be camping, geographically.
The con that worries me is the shakiness. The bouncing around. I think I would hate that, but one of the side effects of a light weight, I guess. The.price for small campers is theu the roof. I was shocked when I saw how expensive it was to start. They are cute, tho.
You should teach people how to speak. I am 77 and have trouble sometimes hearing. I heard every syllable you spoke and you’re speaking a little fast but I heard you, every word. If I was going to camp I would get a scamp. You sold me!!
I had a small utility trailer stolen, over ten years ago. Ever sense, I remove the wheels on my trailers when parking them. It takes seconds to remove the wheels with a battery powered impact wrench. You can't steel a trailer with no wheels.
@@ladyandthescamp Removing a wheel is very easy and effective at preventing trailer theft.I have a few trailers, and I no longer worry about them at all. It also works great for boat trailers.
Interesting video. Pre-Covid Scamps were very affordable and great value, now it seems it's their resale that will make them better value than others. Still want one, even though I have nothing to tow it with and nowhere to keep it.
I hope you get one eventually! I’m embarrassed to say that this lipstick is like 8 years old and it was a free sample from Clinique that I stole from my mom. :)
Just for other people: I'm 6'1 and have no issue standing up as long as I'm not under the AC and I fit in the bed great. That said, there isn't much room over my head so I'm guessing 6'1 is it. Also I imagine your husband hits his head getting out. I do at least once a day. But so far, I'm loving our Scamp!
Why do you hide your kids face I'm sure there is no way whatsoever that you're ashamed of them. I'm just curious. I have six grandkids myself and there's no way I would hide their face. But if that's your preference then I agree with you. Have a great day and stay safe! I'm going back and watching y'alls camping excursions. You really make me laugh. You're just a funny person and you have a beautiful family
My kids are minors and I don't know if they will want their faces and identities on the internet for all of time (the Internet is forever). When they are of age, they can decide how they want their digital footprint to read. Also, there are some creepy people on the Internet. :)
@@ladyandthescamp that makes sense to me but I never did think about the creeped out there that didn't even cross my mind but it has now make sense. Very smart lady and funny too. Let me know if y'all decide to sell that thing. Of course I got to wait till my house sells. Anyway thanks for replying and that was an excellent answer
Can't spell Scamp wo Scam. I think th whe industry is a scam of horrible design and manufacture, materials are the cheapest they can get, way overpeiced. The buying public just goes into denial mode when shopping and takes the slop they dish out.

That is a Lemon. Trailers are only as good as the people working at the Plant that day it was built.
Have you had one?
As with a lot of things, there are trade offs or compromises to be made. Some of these are pretty alarming, but it seems like you’re still happy and valuing the important aspects of it all. Love the videos-just found the channel. We’ve got two under two right now. I want us to have something like this soon. With the long lead times everywhere I better make a decision quickly!
Thanks! Yeah, we’ve found having a Scamp is a love hate relationship. :)
Yep. It’s really disheartening. We are fairly sure we have a lemon.
I unfortunately sold my 16’ Scamp just before the resale prices boomed. Oh well. Did the same with a Westfalia camper, couldn’t get rid of it until I sold it for a song! Today they’re going for forty grand.
Great informative video.
I think biggest for me will be insurance. Registration. Fees to just have it. Anything like the door, or cabinets still falling apart?
Door still, yes. Floor is peeling a little probably because of the flood earlier, but other than that, seems ok. But the extra costs add up, fornsure
Hi , what type of reflective stuff did you use in your Scamp on your windows?Did you like it ? thanks
Got you covered. Everything I did is here: th-cam.com/video/qDuJ5S8C9LI/w-d-xo.html
And I linked all the products I use here: sites.google.com/view/ladyandthescamp/home?authuser=1
Also, I love the Bolers!!
You still have the trailer?
Hi scamp lady. The jury is still out on me buying a trailer. Love your videos
Hi! Thanks for watching!
I am on board with most everything until you get to the door. That alone is enough to be a no for me. I appreciated your review, thanks!
I enjoyed your vacation videos. Great review. I was thinking they could have put more cabinets along the bed wall above the window.
Yeah, I think you can customize that, but it feels like it should be included. Thanks for watching!
Wont be surprised if you get calls from the entertainment industry, you got great energy, very photogenic, also a great look!!
Great narrator is another might i add lol
Well, thank you! I hope you have a great day!
I will take that as a compliment! Thanks!
Always smiles and chuckles coming from this end when watching your videos😅. Your little guy smelling the leaves instead of the flowers😂. Little sweetie pie.
Would you be able to tell me what camera you have installed and is it installed inside or out?
Thank you so much for putting smiles in my day🤗
Wanda
Awww..thanks, Wanda. :)
Airstream and Scamp have excellent resale values. Airstreams are super expensive which makes the Scamp more attractive for first time buyers. I never understand why people buy 25-30 ft trailers for their first purchase which have bad resale value if they decide to sell it.
I love airstreams, but definitely can’t afford one. Scamps are nice tiny compromises. :)
Airstreams suck...
My 2005 Ford Taurus can tow it!
I’m 58 years old and l want one!

Thanks for watching!
Sounds like a great challenge! Happy travels!
Who gives these videos a thumbs down? I just don't understand internet grumps...
haha. I think there is a contest sometimes of who can be the meanest.
how much do they run about?
I’ve wanted a scamp for years but decided to convert a 6x10 cargo trailer.
I like that idea, too.
Thank you.
There's gotta be a way to secure it while boondocking 🤔 . Maybe a wheel lock?
We have one, but most wheel locks are kind of janky and are just a small deterrent. Thanks for the suggestion, though. :)
The con that worries me is the shakiness. The bouncing around. I think I would hate that, but one of the side effects of a light weight, I guess.
The.price for small campers is theu the roof. I was shocked when I saw how expensive it was to start.
They are cute, tho.
YOU ARE GORGEOUS !!!
Just a thought if you have an iPhone just get one or two air pods and hide them in a safe place. Thank you for the video.
Funny Lady 😆
Thanks!
You should teach people how to speak. I am 77 and have trouble sometimes hearing. I heard every syllable you spoke and you’re speaking a little fast but I heard you, every word. If I was going to camp I would get a scamp. You sold me!!
You can change the video speed in any video.
Consider 16 foot scamp..... I bought one from a gentleman who pulled it with a 4 cylinder vehicle....... You will have plenty of storage.
Thanks!
I love the face zooms lmfao
Haha! Thanks!
You are very very funny. Gotta love ya.❤
I had a small utility trailer stolen, over ten years ago. Ever sense, I remove the wheels on my trailers when parking them. It takes seconds to remove the wheels with a battery powered impact wrench. You can't steel a trailer with no wheels.
Yeah, this is a concern for us.
Haha! Yes, they are fun but expensive right now!
I store mine at a storage facility near a state park where I live for $50/mth.
This is a good video. I dream of having a scamp. Not there yet.
What lipstick are you wearing?👄
I hope you get one eventually! I’m embarrassed to say that this lipstick is like 8 years old and it was a free sample from Clinique that I stole from my mom. :)
Smart lady
Just for other people: I'm 6'1 and have no issue standing up as long as I'm not under the AC and I fit in the bed great. That said, there isn't much room over my head so I'm guessing 6'1 is it. Also I imagine your husband hits his head getting out. I do at least once a day. But so far, I'm loving our Scamp!
Good info! Thanks!
Hide a Airtag in the scamp! ;)
This is actually not a terrible idea!
Price range please

It is incredible that you wanted to fit 4 people in a 13 ft trailer. You should bought a 16 ft,
You’re too cool 😎 👍🏼
Well, how nice! Thanks!
@@terryqueen3233 Will do! Thanks!
Problem with fiberglass is fragility
How light is it? Tell us.
What is an elder millennial? I'm gen x & I'm 46 & I don't think I'm quite to "elder" yet. Isn't millennial the gen after gen x? I'm confused.
You: "I am an Elder Millennial."
Me (GenZ): 🤔
Great video! Thank you!
Unfortunately it seems your Casita has quality issues…they really don’t stand up to going “off pavement”.
my Scamp?
7:00 😳
Can't spell Scamp wo Scam.
I think th whe industry is a scam of horrible design and manufacture, materials are the cheapest they can get, way overpeiced. The buying public just goes into denial mode when shopping and takes the slop they dish out.
How tall is you husband hahah
He is 6'3". :)
I am hypnotized by your lips
"elder millennials"? I thought you were a Gen Xer. My bad.
haha. Thanks. I'm old.
Stop looking nice like that. We like you better when you're a mess.
I'm generally a mess.
Your face is nice, information is better, but I want to SEE the scamp
Well, lucky for you, I have a whole channel of Scamp vids: th-cam.com/channels/y66R4Er56IFQDwyO0Ix7Aw.html
Thanks for watching!
Show the scamp , not your head, jeez
I really expected to see the scamp features and use. Not just your face
I guess you can see them in the other videos. The tour might be more helpful.
So what you’re saying is, don’t buy a Scamp.
And yet…I still have it
