In mid May, I picked up a13 foot 2023 Scamp Standard with Layout 2 (bathroom & shower) from the factory in Backus, MN. We added 2 burner glass top stove, dual 20lb propane tanks, A/C with heat strip and soft start, 54” bed upgrade, furnace (16,000 BTU), Group 27 battery pack upgrade, electric brakes with wireless brake control, outdoor shower, door step, entrance grab bar, wheel for the jack and a trailer cover.
The hope for this channel is to post content that is helpful to Scamp owners or perspective owners of fiberglass RV trailers. We will be purchasing products with use in our scamp and hope to provide quality reviews of our experiences.

We add some customizations to our Scamp while camping at Heise Campground, Idaho.
We took a fun trip to Heise campground. We had gone the weekend before with our girls, but this video mostly is our second trip that Cathleen and I took together. Will give you a tour of the place and also show you some cool little camping gadgets. We will also share some tips that we’ve learned along the way.
So come and join us for a trip to Heise! The link below will take you directly to their website, they offer a zip line, Hot Springs, swimming pool with big waterslide and diving board, campground, golf course, and a great pizza place with arcade and the live music on the weekends.

The ultralight high back chairs we use with our 13 ft Scamp
มุมมอง 1054 หลายเดือนก่อน
Space is limited in a 13 foot Scamp, so we were looking for something that was lightweight, fully collapsible (for space saving) and was easy to store. While at Costco, we came across the cascade mountain tech ultralight, high back chair (two pack). It is item number 2622211 at Costco. I just under 4 pounds. It’s certainly lightweight. It has a removable and adjustable headdress so it’s comfort...
The utensil set we use in our 13 foot Scamp
มุมมอง 644 หลายเดือนก่อน
Ya, Nick knows he spelled utensil wrong. He thinks his version looks more European and fancy.... We really like these magnetic flatware utensils for use in our Scamp for a few different reasons. First off, they are only 2 mm thick and they use a 7075 - T6 aluminum that is durable, strong, and ultra light weight (lighter than titanium, and a third the weight of stainless steel). They are reusabl...
The oven we use for baking when we camp in our Scamp
มุมมอง 1184 หลายเดือนก่อน
An oven is not one of the options that Scamp offered when we ordered our 13 foot Scamp. When we found the Coleman Portable Camping Oven with Thermometer & Adjustable 10 Sq. In. Rack, Designed to Sit on Top of Camp Stoves or Fire, we were eager to put it to the test! First off, it’s small when folded up and does not take up much space when we store it in the Scamp. The Coleman Oven measures 13.5...
A review of the little coffee pot we use in our Scamp.
มุมมอง 744 หลายเดือนก่อน
Space is tight in a 13 ft Scamp, so we are choosy when it comes to things that take up space. Cathleen is also choosy when it comes to coffee. We are happy that the Chinook 41115 Coffee Percolator (6 cup) excelled in both size and quality. Unfortunately, at the time of this video upload, the 6 cup version is no longer available. There is a 9 cup version out there on Amazon though, so we left a ...
How to turn off your Scamps battery voltage indicator light.
มุมมอง 854 หลายเดือนก่อน
In this short video, I will show you how we installed a momentary switch that illuminates the Scamps battery voltage indicator only when pressed. The battery voltage indicator is very bright. The indicator is so bright, that it easily illuminated the interior of the scamp. This bright light can be annoying when you want to sleep. By installing the switch, the battery voltage indicator remains u...
Episode 9 - Hitch Extender
มุมมอง 838ปีที่แล้ว
In this episode, I’m going to be attempting to resolve an issue with the Subarus rear hatch, striking the electric tongue jack that I installed in episode 8. I’ll be using a hitch receiver extender that I purchased at Harbor Freight tools. If you’re interested in one of these, you can find it at the link below. www.harborfreight.com/hitch-extender-with-step-97685.html
Episode 8 - Electric trailer tongue jack installation.
มุมมอง 981ปีที่แล้ว
In this video, I’ll be demonstrating how I replaced the manual trailer tongue jack with an electric one. You can purchase the electric jack I used on Amazon. If you use the following link, I will receive a commission (beer money). Electric Jack: amzn.to/3R2AryV
Episode 7 - Battery, removal, storage and maintenance.
มุมมอง 387ปีที่แล้ว
It’s a good idea to remove the battery from your camping trailer before you put it away for long-term storage. Removal and storage is especially important in areas where your battery is likely to freeze. The liquid inside the battery cells is not designed to freeze. It will damage or destroy the battery if the battery water freezes. If you’re going to store the battery over a long period of tim...
Episode 6 - Winterization
มุมมอง 613ปีที่แล้ว
I needed to edit this video to include a part that I missed. Special thanks to DCMay3 for pointing out that I forgot to winterize the city water connection. I gave him a special shout out at the end screen. I also added a little clip about removing the remote control batteries in your Scamp before you store it. Order the correct pump here: amzn.to/3EnoBIG A rock struck the underside of the Scamp, bending back the front tongue mounted jack, the metal shield, and damaging the shower water pump, This video will show how to replace the shower water pump on the underside of your 13 foot Scamp.
I want one!😊Thank you for the great tour and commentary.
I hope you get one!
Great overview! They should pay you for that.
Right?!? if you subscribe, TH-cam might pay me!

She's gorgeous
It’s a good looking trailer!
I never noticed the Trailer
I would love to pick your brain on how well the Subaru pulls the camper and how comfortable the camper is in the winter. Yall are in my area, would love to connect.
Sounds great! Email us at howtoscamp@gmail.com and we would be happy to tell you all about our experiences with the Subaru and Scamp.
Neat little trailer I would definitely tint them windows
We still have not tinted the windows, but we probably will.
What kind of car do you pull with.
2021 Subaru Outback Touring XT. It allow us to safely tow up to 3,500 lbs.
Does scamp make one light enuff for a 2014 ford fiesta to pull?
@@houseoferin777 I don’t know how much that vehicle pulls. What does the manufacturer say it can tow? I do know that the lightest Scamp is just under 1500 pounds. So, if you’re able to tow that much weight or more, you should be good to go! Just keep in mind that anything you add to the trailer (food, equipment, clothing) will add to that weight.
Very helpful video! Thanks for posting this.
Glad you found it helpful!
Very clear! It’s great to have a video specifically for my 2023 13’ Scamp!
I’m glad it helped!
I really enjoyed the information you talked about. Plus your did a great job informing your wife and informing all who watch your video. 👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Glad you enjoyed it!
This is perfect for me
Get one!
Awwwww! This little camper is adorable! 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Yes! It’s kinda cute.
How much?
About $23K
Great body
Thanks man. I’ve been working out.
We have found that light to be equally miserable. At first we attempted to cover it with a small piece of cardboard and painters tape, but it was too permanent. So now we use a healthy glob of silly putty. It works great and can be removed easily. Thanks for the button idea!
I think the silly putty idea is an awesome one. I thought about trying to figure out a way to mold a little plastic cover for it. Another idea I had was to use my chronometer to get the outside dimensions and use a 3-D printer to print a snap on cover for it, something made out of silicone that would stretch to cover it and hold tightly to its edges. But in the end, I’m really happy with the button idea. Cathleen wasn’t too happy about the mess it made while we were camping, but I was able to get it all cleaned up!
Very helpful videos! Thank you for making them!
I’m so glad you enjoyed them!

Seems like you had to add everything as extras. Must hav added up a lot of $. Still use it? I wonder how you liked it over time, and if you would still recommend it.
Ya, it all added up. We’ve really enjoyed it!
Great little scamp walkthrough!
So glad you liked it.
Hi guys, I can’t believe how much stuff is in this little caravan with an ensuite etc etc amazing just wonderful for two people nice and cosy
We love it!
What model year?
It’s a 2023
The carpeting in the ceiling to me is mildew in the waiting!
It’s a mirin’s grade carpet. No one has reported mildew so-far. We will make a video if we experience anything like that.
My husband and i gave debated about getting a camper, wr decided not to. Its a pain in the ass ro get everything set up, they are made cheap. And i dont ferl like paying taxes, insurance abd tags. I would rather pay abd stay in a 5 star hotel without all this headache shit. Plus the maintenance that needs to be done. Suppose the ac goes out or anything, that MONEY!!! No Thanks
Ya, the average cost of a camper is over $15,000. That money sure would pay for a lot of motels/hotels! That being said, few hotels put you at the waters edge of a lake or allow you to experience the crackling of a campfire. We feel cozy and safe in our little camper and have made happy memories with it that we treasure. I don’t ever feel that way about staying in a motel or hotel.
Great video, you cover the important details like no one else, and I've watched a lot of scamp videos. Lug nuts, tire pressure, and a proper jack are really important, but are easy to forget about. Thanks for the thorough coverage, and I hope you guys are still enjoying your Scamp!
I appreciate that!
Too small! It's like living in a closet
Small, yes. But “too small”? I think, that really comes down to perspective. What’s wrong for you may be just perfect for someone else.
You have made me tired from all that talking
Get some rest?
Air conditioner is way to big and to many fixes for a new unit. I don't want to have to fix stuff right off the top.😢
Do they make smaller a/c’s?
Excellent explanation of the mechanical workings of the scamp. I'm looking at purchasing one soon but was hesitant that I wouldn't know how to deal with the mechanical part. Thanks to you I have a better understanding of it all. Great job!!
Glad it was helpful!
You can get a shower tent, push it up close to trailer take shower. Privacey.
Ya, that’s a good idea. Maybe a little square raised platform (like a tiny shipping pallet) to stand on inside so that the water drains off easy and you’re not standing in a puddle?
Im a fan of the Scamp camper but not the carpet on the roof, reminds me of the carpet they put in dailboat cabins i wouldn't want to get it wet.
I know how you feel. It is a “marine” carpet, so that’s probably why it feels familiar to the sailboats cabin.
No, se em dosent mean that no one can see in, it means that the really tiny mosquitoes Can get in
Ohhh
Locker shelves and packing cubes
Great idea.
I could live in that😊
Think so?
I never heard you say what you paid for this unit
Bout $20K
Lucky it was only 14 feet long trailer or the video would have been 4 Hours long. My last trailer was 37’ foot bunk house with sleeping for 10 people.❤🎉 I started with a used 16 ‘ footer so enjoy !
That is awesome!
You should put a up another shower curtain that goes between the toilet bowl and the shower so you don’t get the toilet seat wet every time you use the shower.❤
Good idea
Waiting for her to see the young lady take her shower!🎉
Inappropriate but expected
She is very ackward
I would love this. Do they still make them?
Yes, they absolutely do!
@scampchannel thank you. I'm in Canada, any outlets here?
Nope, but isn’t their factory in Backus Minnesota close to the border?
I really wanted to like the scamp but this is not a good design. Or safe design. That fur will mold in bathroom. Please get a few fire extinguishers! I never understand putting the bed away from the only door. The escape door. I don’t think the people who design campers every went camping! They need to interview people like us before they do the layout etc. We have been full time in RV for 10 years. Way too many design flaws and safety issues. Be safe! This model would be ok for short weekend trips but for a long trip it will be a frustrating nightmare. Too many safety issues in this design. Please be safe in here!
Thanks for the comment!
What is the sleep arrangements in a scamp
Well, it depends upon the size of the scamp (there are THREE SIZES: 13ft., 16ft. or 19ft) and the different layouts offered for each of the sizes . On the Scamp you saw in my video, which is a 13ft, there are TWO layouts. My layout offers a full sized bed and a bathroom/shower, so it sleeps only 2 adults. The other layout offered for the 13ft offers a full sized bed and but with bunk beds instead of a shower, so it sleeps 4 adults.
Very good explaining of everything. Thank you. Do you like your scamp?
Yes we do!
I didn't have time to evaluate anything! Yoo fast.

That's a little bit fast. Is the bed also dinette?

Provides nice heater/air-conditioning set high off ground where can get down to 37:43 38:02 ri😮vers systems still have river b and camp fire at nite while running trout lines to catch 50 lb cat fish. You will be behind walls not cloth of a tent where you're at risk more protection.you can choose but for small to go in tight places this would work.
Thanks for watching!
Regarding covering the toilet, you may want to check out a Roof Ventilator Cover. It just might work.
Great idea. Thank you!
Did he say at 12 o'clock you turn to 3 o'clock for 9 o'clock at 3 and 12 o'clock after 6 o'clock the 9-3-12-9-12-3 is so?
I’m trying to remember exactly how it goes, it’s easier when I’m actually standing in front of it.
Got tired of not seeing the lay out. Turned off showing.
You should watch the other video, on measurements. Keep in mind it’s only 13 feet long, so there is not much layout to show.
I had really thought I would order one, but the poor workmanship for what you pay??? Rethinking
Understandable…
Thanks for doing this video! I have a brand new Scamp so this is a good review before my first road trip. I love the Scamp. Enjoy!
Glad it was helpful! I sincerely hope you enjoy your Scamp as much as we have.
Are different models? What does the starting price look like?
I believe they started around $20k? The one we have was between $23k and $24k.
