TBH, a short time ago, I didn’t even know what trackers are, as I have never used one before…
Tracker is a sample based workstation with a specific step sequencer (top to bottom matrix style screen) programming style. Some trackers also have synth engines, in case of Polyend Tracker (mini) there are wavetable and granular synthesis options. The sequencer consists of 8 tracks which are not instrument specific - so you can sequence notes from several different samples/instruments in one track. There are also two dedicated FX slots per step. The patterns (up to 255 per project) can be then arranged into a song. You can mix separately instruments and tracks, apply final touch to whole project with onboard master effects and also use very interesting “performance mode” for real time adjustments, which is really fun to play with. You can also use the tracks to control your external gear via midi or easily transfer your stems to daw via usb audio.
This new mini version (in comparison to the older OG Tracker) offers stereo samples support, extra RAM, rechargeable battery, built in microphone and audio through usb option.
Eventhough trackers might have their limitations and higher learning curve, they can emphasise a new approach to your workflow and support your creativity. I personally really like the sound, portability and versatility of the Tracker Mini because that makes it a great tool for creating either simple idea sketches or whole songs wherever you go (works even in space as you can see 😎) so get dressed, go out and take your studio with you! ✌️

thanks a lot bro, i never got deep in mpc but it is definitely a great tool too! i like on the mini tracker that you can take it wherever you want and the workflow is different than anything i tried before, but it is always nice to try a different approach to music making. i don’t have a full album, i am more of a synth nerd 😊 but you can check my videos here or on my instagram @jesuzmario 🙏
