This big fella, introduced in the year I was born and being also called a “poor’s man PPG”, is a 6-voice polyphonic hybrid synthesizer, based on a digital wavetable synth engine with 32 waveforms for each of the two oscilators, directing the signal through the legendary SSM2044 analog filter chips (also used in PPG Wave 2, Fairlight II, SP-1200 etc.) Even with the classic late 80’s membrane-buttons interface, it is quite easy and intuitive to create and adjust your patches. I bought this unit dirty cheap couple years ago in a full working condition, but shortly after, one of the voices started to fall out occasionally, after the synth is turned on for a while. Otherwise I am very happy with it and love the unique nostalgic digital/analog sound, which can get fat and warm but also glassy sharp. The prices went pretty high on the used market recently, but if you can find one for a fair price, I recommend getting it (or a similar alternative like Korg DW 8000 or Ensoniq ESQ-1) as a very nice addition to your setup.
