  • Israelis marked their 60th anniversary May 8th with parades, conferences and visits by leaders from around the world. For much of Israel's history the Kibbutz movement defined the country's ideals -- self reliance and socialism -- but now that is changing, as VOA's Jim Teeple found out when he visited Israel's oldest and most famous Kubbutz, Degania, founded in 1910 on the shores of the Sea of Galilee

I worked in the Refet at Kibbutz Ha'Ogen in 1986 and I LOVED IT!!! The most rewarding job I ever had!

Ich war 1970 im Kibbuz Degania Alef. Ich arbeitete bei den Hühnern (Ba Lule). Mein Chef war Chaim. War eine schöne Zeit und ich erinnere mich gerne daran.

Kibbutz' were the foundational force behind the return of the Jews to their land. The People there are truly patriotic and brave. They have been brave in times of peace-toiling the soil, fighting malaria in swamps to clear them and make the land fruitful. In times of war displayed great valour. Whatever the structure of their government, I know each will be Ohev Yisrael! Shalom!

They failed at creating communism. Cause too greedy.

The Refet is the best place to work on the kibbutz!
