    I definitely identity with much of Schopenhauers philosophy! I believe he came as close as one can come to discovering the true nature of human existence! Pessimism, to many, is viewed as a consequence of negative life experiences, and has a dark connotation attached to it, but I believe it emanates from the deepest recesses of ones inner being. I don’t view it with the disdain that society does;Quite to the contrary, I believe it to be a rather healthy form of self-expression. At the very least, it is honesty in its’ most translucent form.

    Schopenhauer is the only philosopher I spent years, decades grappling with-the greatest influence and inspiration of my life. And you're getting him exactly right. Which means I'm gonna trust you on everyone else. Kudos, brother. :-)

      Can you explain what evidence does Schopenhauer have to assert that an asteroid has a "Will" to be an asteroid...?
      Let me be specific how does the underlying Will/force affect inanimate objects to make them what they are ? It doesn't seem to be any way to prove that hypothesis.
      At least if it was a living thing you can say all living things share an instinct for survival but it makes little sense to say the Will influences inanimate matter since inanimate matter behaves in all sorts of different waves and through no will of its own .

    That’s what I figured life is as a child and was happy to have Schopenhauer confirm my thoughts in my middle age.

    Holy moly .... this one was a mindbender ....Regarding love and family, "bosh" to Schopenhauer. People love, marry, procreate for purely selfish reasons (fear of loneliness, immortality through children, care of oneself by others (esp in old age), unconditional love from children, and on and on -- all selfish, all wrong, all human!). And the consequences of this selfishness are hardly ever fulfilling. Full stop.

    My response to Schopenhauer’s view on love and procreation is that such an endeavor is one of the only goals one can strive for which constantly provides challenges to overcome and more desires to strive for.
    So if we’re predisposed to never be satisfied then striving for something that adapts to engage our levels of satisfaction is the ultimate endeavor one can undertake

    Think about . Having not even thought about doing it . Only being witness to it as it all happens . Adjusting to it . Falling in love with it all . Then being witness to every outside power methodically Take It All Away. And not being able to prevent it .even with the ability to cause the destruction of those . But to no avail .

    You can be happy without love !?, without love !??? Good luck with that! Love means not only to love a person, you can love anything, you can love your work and be happy, you can love to kill and be happy with that, but without love you are nothing. What seems to be irrational today can become rational tomorrow and vice versa, our minds and hearts are interconnected, you cannot separate it and be happy.

    • @halestorm123

      You can be happy without love and we dont all need to be in relationships to be happy,

    • @tiberiuoprea8482
      @tiberiuoprea8482 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@halestorm123 This is not what I meant. Of course you don't need to be in a relationship to be happy, but love is complex. To reduce love to only human feelings towards other human is not enough. You can love your job, your pet, your hobbies, your new car and so on. I don't think you can be happy and not loving one thing in your life, otherwise what would be the point to call yourself happy

    • @1999michiru
      @1999michiru 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In this context, I think he is talking specifically about falling in love with another person, not love in a general sense where you love doing a certain hobby or whatever. That type of love is not really necessary for happiness.

    Schopenhauer says that he is an atheist but then says even a plant and stone has a will no different to what we humans possess.
    So he is an atheist in the specific sense of the word - not believing in deities. It strains the meaning many might take when they hear atheist.

    Reading any philospher is pointless, we never understand their frame of minds unless you were born into their own worlds of another age. Pointless, we ignore the present and focus too much on these past thinkers.
